Part 2 The Faceless Man Chapter 242 The Seeker of Help
Inside the half-collapsed temple, only a few stone pillars were still intact, and together they supported a small half of the main hall.
At the very front of the main hall was a cracked altar, and in the center of the altar stood a pitch-black, gigantic cross.
Above the cross hung a naked man hanging upside down, his ankles, his thighs, his body, with obvious rust-colored nails showing, accompanied by bright red blood.
Derek knew it was an idol of the Fallen Creator, but he couldn’t help but lower his eyes to the target’s face.
He saw that the nose, mouth, and ears of the idol’s face were blurred, except for the eyes, which were carved with exceptional clarity.
The “Fallen Creator” closed his eyes tightly, as if he was suffering from guilt and pain.
”Avert your eyes, don’t study the statue of an evil god!” “Demon Hunter” Colin reminded in a deep voice.
”Yes, Lord Chief.” The several Exploration Squad members hastily withdrew their eyes.
–Before today, although Silver City had discovered quite a few destroyed cities in its successive explorations and found some written records pointing to the Evil God, most of the residents had never seen the so-called Evil God’s statue.
The remaining portion of the temple on the ground was not wide, and the exploration team quickly split up in groups of two or three to check it out without finding anything out of the ordinary.
”Council of Six,” Chief Colin said after a few seconds of deliberation at the sight:
”Proceed to the underground.”
As he spoke, he brushed out one of the two swords he carried and applied a silver-gray colored ointment to it.
Immediately afterward, he removed a metal vial contained in a hidden compartment on his belt at his waist, removed the cork, and gulped down the potion inside.
At this instant, Derek felt as if the Chief’s light blue eyes became a little brighter.
One by one, the members of the exploring squad prepared themselves with the utmost caution, and under the illumination of four animal-skin lanterns, they marched step by step down the steps to the left of the idol, towards the underground area.
Derek rotated into the lantern-carrying position, stepping forward on the left and cautiously delving into the darkness.
He heard the sound of his own footsteps and those of his companions swinging outward from the surface of the stone steps, creating a long, empty echo.
The echo was undisturbed, signaling the absolute silence below, but in the minds of the various members of the exploring team it was like a knock at the door, trying to open a hidden secret that had been buried for who knows how many years, and that forced their spirits to be on high alert.
After an unknown amount of time, Derek finally saw the road ahead flatten out and saw the newly discovered murals described by the tainted Dak Riggins.
Those murals existed in large swaths on the walls on either side, simply colored in, looking ancient, vicissitudes, and bleak.
Derek casually glanced at them and was caught by one of the murals:
On the front left wall, the white cross stood in the very center, surrounded by the blackness of the sea, drowning many humans struggling to extend their arms.
On the cross is the fallen Creator, hanging upside down, with rusty nails and blood-colored stains, indistinguishable from the statues of gods in the outside world.
But in this fresco, the “Fallen Creator” is suffering from black erosion, so much so that the white color of the cross has turned black in some places.
In addition, the cross supports a hazy earth, and countless human beings are kneeling and praying to the “Fallen Creator”.
Around the picture, in the deepest part of the darkness, there are six evil god-like figures.
In the upper left corner was a woman in a long black classical dress, her clothes were layered but not complicated, inlaid with star-like glitter, her body was more imaginary, with signs of ripples outward, and her face was blurred, as if she was wearing a mask with no facial features.
Around her, darkness was surging, and a single eerie eye loomed.
Directly above her was a young male clad in pure white robes, his face painted a pure gold color and sprouting a radiant tentacle.
In each of his hands he held books of a rotting green color and spears coalesced from light, his chest and undershirt reversed in position.
In the upper right corner was the trident-wielding monster with an octopus-like head, round eyes, and a body wrapped in lightning.
Countless bird feathers formed its cloak, and darkness turned into waves that held its feet.
Below right is a buxom, supple lady, her breasts high and bulging, naked outside of her garment, her arms holding a baby with a rotting face, and at her feet are black sheaves of wheat, springs of writhing flesh, herbs oozing pus and wildly mating animals.
Directly below is the old man wearing a hood that reveals his mouth, wrinkles and white beard.
This old man is holding an open tome with an eye above it that symbolizes omniscience.
At first glance, this old man appears most normal, but the smile that curves the corners of his mouth has an uncanny evilness to it.
In the lower left corner is the giant warrior in tattered armor, with his longsword pinned down, seated on a throne, with a bleak twilight in the background.
The meaning of this mural is that the cataclysm is coming, the evil gods climbed out of the abyss, the “fallen creator” in order to save the world, bear most of the guilt and pain, and therefore appear to symbolize the erosion, the image of the situation has been changed …… However, I think k is the The biggest evil god …… Derek carries an animal-skin lantern and looks at the wall paintings as he walks, finding them to be largely consistent with Dak Riggins’ description, with the central theme being that the region has not been forsaken by the gods, but rather has been blessed by the Creator to maintain civilization in the midst of the apocalypse. civilization in the midst of the apocalypse.
Of course, Derek Riggins had only mentioned this briefly before, and it was far less detailed than the mural itself.
Throughout the process, Derek did not relax his guard, by the previous stupidity of the lesson, he was always on the lookout for accidents, ready to respond to the first time.
In the dim candlelight, the exploration team passed through a corridor, a hall, a room, deep into the underground area of the temple.
Suddenly, a half-open gray stone gate appeared in front of them.
Outside the gate was a cluster of beautiful mushroom-like things, palm-sized, with white stalks and bright red caps, dotted with dark golden spots in the crystals.
As soon as they saw these “mushrooms”, the members of the exploration team had a strong appetite, and wanted to rush over, pull down a plant, and stuff it into their mouths.
Gulp, gulp, gulp, gulp, gulp, gulp, gulp, gulp, gulp, gulp.
However, most of the people who were able to enter the Exploration Squad possessed rich experience and relatively good sequences, and having been warned beforehand, someone immediately stepped forward and whispered:
”That’s rotting flesh and hairy scalps.”
Derek recognized this teammate and knew that his name was Joshua, and that he had a magical item that he had acquired in one of the quests and managed to redeem down the line.
Joshua extended his crimson gloved left palm and aimed it at the door.
With a flash of light, a blazing fireball quickly took shape and shot out, hitting those unusually attractive “mushrooms” squarely.
Rumble! The earth trembled slightly, and the waves of flame spread two meters in all directions.
By the time the flames subsided, the mushrooms had all disappeared, leaving behind only bits of flesh and blood, which made the extraordinary people who had almost lost control of themselves nauseous.
”Demon Hunter” Colin did not interfere with the team’s actions, quietly watching from the side, nodding his head from time to time.
”What’s with the mushrooms turned into flesh and hair? Where did the blood, flesh and hair come from?” Joshua retracted his left palm and muttered to himself in confusion.
Another team member ventured a guess:
”The original inhabitants of this city?”
It’s possible …… maybe their deaths are what turned them into pure flesh and blood and hair …… Derek agreed in his heart.
After a brief discussion, the questing team broke into several more groups and cleared up the halls outside the gray stone gates.
With that done, they regrouped and slowly passed through the gate, always ready for battle.
Behind the gate was an altar-like place, surrounded by a deep and dark area where the light could hardly reach, not knowing what was hidden.
Above the altar, there was also a black cross and the fallen Creator hanging upside down.
Derek, carrying an animal-skin lantern, was the closest and instinctively scanned the area.
His gaze suddenly froze as he realized that the statue of the Fallen Creator was different from the outside world.
Its eyes were open!
The blood-colored whites of the eyes and the black eyes looked straight ahead at the intruder as if they were alive.
Ta-da-da-da, Derek heard the sound of teeth clashing.
He had thought it was coming from one of the team members, but soon realized that it was himself who was trembling!
Although he didn’t know enough about the dangers of evil gods, he was instinctively chattering his teeth at this moment.
Ta-da-da.
His teammates had a similar reaction.
Just then, a bit of powder floated up, and Colin “The Demon Hunter” clenched his fist.
Boom!
The sound of thunder echoed as Derek and the others snapped out of their previous nightmarish state.
Before they had a chance to examine their surroundings, fluttering cries suddenly came from behind the altar.
”Oooh, oooh, oooh ……”
”Ooo, ooo, ooo ……”
In the teeth-gnashing silence, Colin “The Demon Hunter” commanded nonchalantly:
”Derek, Joshua, you guys go around and take a look.”
Derek’s body was a little cold, carrying the animal skin lantern, holding the “Hurricane Axe”, together with Joshua, slowly walked around to the back of the altar.
As the darkness was gradually dispersed by the light, they saw a black shadow huddled behind the altar.
Taking two more steps forward, the dark shadow took on its original appearance.
It was a child of seven or eight years old with soft and subdued yellow hair.
He closed his eyes, seemingly a bit uncomfortable with the light, while his mouth shouted excitedly:
”Help me, help me ……”
Derek pupils contracted, thought of the previous in the pure darkness heard the cry for help, subconsciously raised the “Hurricane Axe”.
At this time, the “Demon Hunter” Colin, who had already arrived next to them, took a step forward and asked gruffly:
”Who are you?”
The child stopped begging for help and said reminiscently:
”My name is, my name is Jack …….”
……
After supper, Crane put on his coat and hat and prepared to go out.
He was going to see Miss Sharon to solve the problem of a certain Baron digging a tunnel, and to ask for clues about the mermaids, and to try to finish the job before Detective Sherlock Moriarty went south for his “vacation.”
