Chapter 4
Luke walked out of his office and a black man standing at the water fountain looked over at him with an exaggerated expression.
The black man’s name was Marcus was a known loudmouth in the detective bureau, “Whoa whoa, I thought I heard someone getting a transfer? It couldn’t be you, could it?”
“You heard wrong.”
Marcus asked in his own rap beat accent, “Yea, I wouldn’t have admitted it if it was me, I would have secretly rolled up and left.”
Luke glanced at the office and stepped farther away, “It’s the captain who’s going to be transferred.”
Lieutenant Vince pressed, “The Captain himself?”
Luke nodded, “Of course, the Captain wants me to take her place.”
“Hey ……,” Marcus let out a snort, “Are you kidding me? I’m even more qualified to be captain than you are.”
Luke said with a serious look on his face, “That’s what I thought and recommended you to Captain Susan.”
Marcus subconsciously asked, “What did the captain say?”
Luke looked serious learning Susan’s tone and shouted, “Shut up and get out of my sight immediately.
I’ll be right out.”
Marcus shouted confused for a moment.
Lieutenant Vince shook his head, “Marcus, you’re screwed.”
“Haha ……”
The other coworkers laughed along.
By the time Marcus realized it, Luke had already returned to his position.
It was true that he had been a bit passive during this period of time for a number of reasons.
A Chinese police officer turned into an LAPD detective needed to learn and adapt a lot, culture, life, work, mentality, environment ……
It was not easy.
Luke had read traveled novels before, those protagonists could quickly adapt to their identities after crossing over, even doing better than the original owner of the body.
It was actually hard.
Technically, he was just a rookie now, and Susan was measuring him by the standards of an elite detective.
Luke shook his head and pushed down the jumble of thoughts.
Let’s get to work first, the job of a police officer is to solve crimes.
As long as the ‘Taser Robbery’ is solved, all problems will be solved.
Luke found the information of the two cases and started to study them.
The suspect’s purpose is unclear, and he may be concealing the real motive of the crime. ……
8pm.
The Flying Bar.
After crossing over, Luke also liked the bar culture and often came to have a drink after work.
Luke didn’t simply come over today for pleasure, there were other purposes.
This bar was redecorated last year, the environment was not bad, with a dance floor, entertainment area, card seating area and bar.
It wasn’t crowded at this hour, and Luke sat on a high stool around the bar.
A bartender in a black vest approached him, “What would you like to drink today?”
The bartender was a white middle-aged man, Luke was a regular here and the two were on good terms.
“Whiskey.”
The bartender poured half a glass of whiskey and put it on the bar, “Anything else you need?”
“Get me five scratchers.”
The United States is a lottery powerhouse, and there are so many different types of lotteries that every state can have a lottery regulatory and distribution agency.
There are retail outlets in bars, supermarkets, gas stations, clubs and other convenient places.
Luke seldom used to buy lottery tickets; he thought it was a waste of money.
But now he has a ‘wonder card’.
For Luke who was living in dire straits getting rich was the best chance of getting rich.
Luke picked up the wine glass and took a sip, holding it in his mouth and savoring it, there was a faint slight acidity and spiciness, the wine was not small.
There were snacks in the buffet area, he chose a small plate of nuts and pretzels, the rest were too sweet for his liking.
A scent of perfume wafted in and Luke whipped his head around as a young woman approached.
“Hi, excuse me, we meet again.” The woman looked somewhat familiar, the same woman who had driven the convertible yesterday.
She was wearing a black professional outfit today, with a bit more of a competent air.
Luke looked the other party up and down, “What’s your name, miss?”
“Daisy, just call me Daisy.
Even though you didn’t help, I’d like to say thank you for my tires.”
Luke smiled, “I was just afraid your boyfriend would get the wrong idea.”
“That’s very sweet of you.” Daisy left with that comment.
Luke continued to drink leisurely, he was enjoying the laid back atmosphere.
“Here’s your scratch, Goodluck.” The bartender handed Luke a plate of scratchers.
“How much?”
Luke rubbed his hands together, already a little impatient.
“Five dollars for the whiskey and five dollars for the scratchers, a generous lady already paid for you and gave me a five dollar tip.”
“Who paid for me?”
“The same nice lady you were just talking to, she has just left.”
Luke shook his head, “I don’t need to be paid for, will pay for myself.”
The bartender squeezed his eyes and took on a come-hither tone, “Hey, relax, it’s normal in bars.
Next time you can invite her, have a little more conversation, maybe something will happen?”
Luke sighed softly, “It’s not the money for the drinks I care about, it’s the scratch-offs.
Who’s on the hook if I win the lottery? I don’t want any trouble.”
Leaving the bar, Daisy walked into a neighborhood street.
The light was somewhat dim and no pedestrians could be seen at the front of the street.
She faintly heard footsteps behind her and turned her head to see a man following in the distance, unable to make out his face.
Daisy was a little nervous, and accelerated her pace.
The sound of footsteps behind her is also getting more and more urgent, getting closer and closer.
She couldn’t outrun the other man in her high heels and almost crooked her foot.
She panicked and reached into her satchel with her right hand, seemingly rummaging for something.
She took out a small bottle from the bag and turned to face behind her, the man was wearing a baseball cap, still couldn’t see his face: “What are you?
Why ……No……”
Daisy didn’t finish her sentence when she saw the man take out a gun from his bag.
“Bang!”
Daisy was like an electric shock and fell straight to the ground, instantly unconscious.
The man in the baseball cap walked over and kicked the bottle in Daisy’s right hand, dragging her to the corner of the street.
The man in the baseball cap opens the travel bag in his hand, puts Daisy’s satchel in it, takes off Daisy’s shoes and throws them in, and reaches his hand up to his blouse ……
Suddenly, a voice rang out not far away, “LAPD, put your hands up!”
“FUCK! How can there be a cop?” The baseball cap man revealed a stunned look.
“Hands up!”
“Don’t shoot!” The baseball cap man looked over at Luke and slowly raised his hands.
Luke walked a few meters away from the suspect with his gun in both hands, “Face down, on the ground, hands behind your back.”
“Sir, you may have misunderstood, she’s my girlfriend, she’s sick and I’m administering help.”
“Shut up, keep your eyes forward and don’t move.”
Luke held the gun in his right hand, took out the handcuffs with his left, pressed his knees against the suspect’s body, cuffed him from behind, pulled down his pants and
“You have the right to remain silent.
If you do not remain silent, then anything you say is able to be used in court as evidence against you.
You have the right to have an attorney present at your trial to consult with you.
If you can’t afford an attorney, the court will provide one for you free of charge.”
After reading the Miranda warnings, Luke’s old sense of being a cop came back.
A voice rang in his head, [Completed an encounter experience, encounter card activated and used].
