Chapter 12
“FUCK!”
Luke had the urge to shoot the asshole dead.
Others pitched a fit, he pitched a fit for his teammates.
Luke made up his mind that he would definitely change his partner this time when he went back.
But now there was no choice but to cover him.
David was the first to rush into the house, searching the left hand side, “Clear.”
Luke followed close behind, searching the right side of the house, “Clear.”
The two men staggered forward and back.
The house was small, just the living room, kitchen, bathroom and a bedroom.
The house was a mess, filled with all sorts of clutter and food waste, and a rancid odor went straight to his nose.
“Safe.”
“Clear.”
Luke’s two men searched the house carefully and found no sign of anyone.
Luke put his gun away and rubbed his fingers against the coffee table, there was already a thick layer of dust and there was leftover pizza on the coffee table that had grown hairy.
Judging by the rotting of the food, the place hadn’t been occupied for at least a week.
“David, there’s not even a mouse in the house, so where’s the cry for help?”
David shrugged his shoulders, full of concern, “Maybe …… I heard it wrong. You understand.”
“Of course I understand, you’re just a reckless asshole, if you don’t change this stinking problem, sooner or later you’ll get us killed.”
“Likewise with each other, I’m an asshole and you’re a lazy ass for letting such an important clue go unchecked and running off to dinner first.”
“At least I won’t get my teammates complained about, and the time we spend eating is just right for a search warrant.”
“Come on, by the time the search warrant is applied for the suspect will have long since run off to Mexico. According to the police department’s system, the police have the right to investigate a suspect’s residence in an emergency. It’s not illegal for us to do that.”
“Anytime is an emergency for you.”
The two men argued for a few moments and the atmosphere became a little tense.
After a few moments of silence, David spread his hands, “OK, I was wrong about this and I apologize.
However, since we’re already in here, why don’t we do a proper search, maybe we can find valuable clues.”
“David, this matter is not finished.” Luke finished, and the two of them split up to search.
The living room and bedroom were in disarray everywhere, and Luke also found a bag of white powder, a few hundred dollars and some seasonal clothes in the cabinet.
From all this, the suspect left in a hurry.
David also finished his search and stood by the window looking out, frowning, “Hey, there’s a sneaky guy hanging around our car, what does this guy want ……”
The two men went out of the house and saw a scruffy white man looking in through the car window, his right hand clasped hard on the door handle and his left hand holding a long piece of wire.
“Asshole, get your filthy hands off me!”
Seeing David approaching in a huff, the scruffy white man hurriedly took two steps back and tossed the wire aside, “Whoa whoa, don’t get excited, I was just kidding.”
“Your joke was hilarious, but it was the wrong guy.” David flashed his badge.
“Oh No, I respect you and don’t want any trouble.” The white man took two steps back, turned and ran.
Luke had circled around to the other side, blocking his escape.
The white man swung his fist, making a move to hit Luke.
Luke dodged aside and stretched out his right foot to hook the other man’s calf.
In his haste, the scruffy white man had trouble avoiding it and fell straight to the ground: “Bang!”
Luke used his knee on the back of the other party, “LAPD, police car you also dare to steal, courageous.”
The scruffy man didn’t try to resist, just skimmed his head, “Sir, I didn’t think about stealing the car, it was really just a joke.”
“That long wire in your hand doesn’t look like a joke.” Luke handcuffed him and lifted him off the ground.
A woman with messy hair ran over from the distance, “What are you doing and why are you arresting my friend?”
David flashed his badge, “Are you his accomplice?”
“You guys are cops?” The woman wasn’t in the best of spirits.
David cocked his head slightly and looked at the woman in front of him, seeming to recognize each other, “Lindsay, I’m David.”
The woman waved her hand, “Let go of him.”
David clapped a hand to his chest, “Lindsay, it’s me, David.”
The woman seemed to recognize David and shook her head, looking a little uneasy.
David slowly approached, “It’s okay, I’ve been looking all over for you, just to make sure you’re living okay. Are you okay?”
The woman stepped back, “I’m fine, I’m fine, stay away from me.”
“I’m just trying to help you, just trying to help you.”
Lindsay asked back, “You want to help me?”
“Yes.”
“Give me all the cash you have on you?”
“What?”
“Give me all the money.”
“Why don’t I drive you to a drug rehabilitation center?”
“I don’t need to go to a place like that. Hurry up.”
David glanced back at Luke, looking a little helpless, “Lindsay, don’t do this.”
The two stared at each other for a moment before David sighed softly and pulled a few bills out of his pants pocket.
Lindsay snatched them up, turned and ran.
David looked at her background with a forlorn expression.
Luke was a little confused, seeing such a ‘weak’ David for the first time, “What happened?”
David’s eyes reddened as he walked over quickly and punched the scruffy man in the stomach, “What’s your name?”
“Logan Salwood.”
“David that’s enough, someone’s coming.” Fearing he was making an irrational move, Luke yanked the scruffy man aside.
David gritted his teeth, “Remember this lesson, there will be no next time.”
The scruffy man couldn’t straighten his back from the pain and nodded repeatedly.
Luke asked, “What about this guy?”
“Let him go.”
“Are you serious?”
“Let him go.”
The scruffy man urged, “He let me go.”
Luke unlocked the handcuffs and let the scruffy man go, getting into the passenger side with some irritation and questioning, “What’s going on?”
David lowered his head, his voice filled with helplessness, “That’s my wife, haven’t seen her in almost six months.”
Luke was a little surprised, “Ex-wife?”
“We’re not divorced.” David let the car thief go because he didn’t want to involve his wife.
Someone stealing his own car and his own wife helping to let it go, he would be the laughing stock of the entire police department if things got out.
Luke could tell that the woman was high even after just a few glances.
A cop’s wife was actually a drug addict, this kind of thing would be difficult to put on anyone’s body.
“Calm down for a minute, I’ll ask around the neighborhood about Tony.” Luke got out of the car and scanned the surrounding ones, except for a few wandering loiterers, he didn’t see any of those kind of residents who were squarely in their own yards.
Luke knocked on the doors of a few neighboring homes, but none of them were open, and he didn’t know if no one was living there, or if they weren’t home, or if they simply didn’t want to open the door.
“This damn place ……” Luke was a little homesick.
Back in the car, David’s mood seemed to have returned to normal and took the initiative to ask, “Any luck?”
“I didn’t even see anyone.”
“These rotten people are like vampires, they come out at night.” David started the car, “I’ll take you to meet some friends who should know about Tony.”
The car drove forward a few hundred meters and there was a bar not far away.
There were many motorcycles parked in the open space in front of the bar, and a group of men in leather jackets were gathered, some of them had white skulls printed on their leather jackets.
“Is this the friend you were talking about?”
“Know how to recognize motorcycle gang members?”
“The markings on the leather jackets read gang name, origin and status. The name of this biker gang is ‘Motorcycle Die Hard Roughnecks’.” Luke laughed and cursed, “I can’t believe these assholes stole my ‘nickname’.”
David said, “The neighborhood is under the Drag Racers, they must know exactly what Tony is up to.”
“Any of your informants here?”
“No, but there will be soon.”
“What do you mean?”
David asked without answering, “Any idea which guys in this group are the most dangerous?”
“The ones with the skull and crossbones on their leather jackets?”
“No, it’s the members who don’t have a skull and crossbones printed on their leather jackets, and the only way they’re going to get to the top is by committing a felony, like assaulting a police officer, in front of a group of gang members.”
Luke glanced at him, “You want to fight?”
“Yea, I’d rather get killed than suffocate.”
