Chapter 40
“Alisa! Eliza ……” came a shout from outside the rest room.
Mr. and Mrs. White rushed into the Robbery and Murder Division.
The family hugged and cried.
The entire office was filled with the sound of crying, but Luke and the others didn’t find it noisy.
On the contrary, relief and smiles appeared on everyone’s face.
Eliza being rescued was the best reward for their efforts in investigating the case.
Luke watched quietly, and something changed inside ……
Since his rebirth, the difference in culture has made him a bit out of place, and the LAPD is just a job to him.
Doesn’t care about the so-called honor, responsibility, or duty.
Stayed in the Heist and Murder Division more because of the Sleuth System.
Now seeing a family of three reunited, Luke had more than a hint of fulfillment.
This feeling …… was not bad.
Wyatt’s parents expressed their gratitude to each of the officers.
It was very sincere.
There was nothing more important to them than having their daughter back alive.
After sending off the Wyatt family of three, it was already four o’clock in the morning, and the team was a little tired.
Susan arranged for the crowd to rest.
At nine o’clock in the morning, a case summarization meeting was held in the conference room.
The team members brought together all the clues and made final preparations for the interrogation.
Susan swept her eyes over the crowd and landed on two people, “Luke, Marcus, you two are in charge of interrogating Dave.”
“WHAT?” the lieutenant spread his hands, revealing a questioning look, “You’re not kidding, right, this guy has an IQ of at least 140, and you’re actually sending two rookies.”
“I know this guy is not easy to deal with, cunning, law-aware and familiar with police interrogation methods, your experience may not be effective against him. I’m going for the odd man out.”
Luke rubbed his chin, “Odd man out? Is that a positive word?” Looking at Marcus next to him, he sighed darkly.
Interrogation Room.
Dave was already handcuffed to the interrogation chair.
Seeing Luke and Marcus enter, Dave revealed a smile, “Oh, Officer Luke, Officer Marcus, we meet again. It’s doubly nice to see familiar faces here.”
“Luke, do you smell an odor of urine.” Marcus wrinkled his nose somewhat exaggeratedly, and finally gazed over at Dave in the interrogation chair, “Mr. Lawyer, you really can’t change your old habits anywhere.”
Luke didn’t chime in; Dave’s diversion with the pants-wetting trick had made the police lower their guard against him.
In a way, it was a shame for the police.
Luke squared his shoulders and said, “Attorney Dave, you know the law, I didn’t expect to see you here.”
“I’m also a little surprised, shouldn’t you guys be going after Steven? Why would you be looking into me?”
“You’re pretty confident.”
“I asked myself that there weren’t too many holes in my plan, how did you guys find out?”
Luke didn’t answer directly, asking instead, “What’s your relationship with Tony Weir?”
“I did him some small favors a few years ago, kind of an old client who chatted well.”
“Did you instruct him to buy the modified taser?”
“No.”
“Dave, you should know that things are not in your favor right now, and you need to cooperate with the police if you want to get a reduced sentence.”
“I’m telling the truth, I borrowed the Taser from him, but I didn’t instruct him to buy it. And I don’t know why he bought the gun?”
Luke opened the evidence bag and out of it came a white plastic bag containing a Taser, “Is this the gun?”
“Yes.”
“When did you get this gun?”
“I think it was mid-February.”
“When exactly?”
“It might have been the 15th or 16th, after almost a month, I can’t remember.”
“What all did you do with the gun?”
“As you can see, I used this gun to kidnap Eliza.”
“And other than that?”
Dave spread his hands, “I don’t know what you mean.”
Luke asked, “There were two other Taser robberies near the club before Alyssa was abducted, two women with similar physical characteristics to Alyssa and both were stripped of their clothing, was it you who did this?”
Dave thought for a moment, “Oh, I’ve heard of those two cases, but I had nothing to do with them.”
Luke smiled, “I’ll give you one more chance, admit it or not?”
Dave pressed his arm against the interrogation chair and said faintly, “If you want to prove I’m guilty, show me the evidence.”
“Dave, don’t hold your breath, the police have checked you out and found some burned items in your yard.
But the burning wasn’t complete, some items were still preserved, such as cell phone parts, jewelry, and clothing buttons, which happened to be the items that were taken from the first two victims.
This evidence is enough to convict you.”
Dave was silent for several moments before saying, “I admit that I did all three cases.”
Luke shifted to a comfortable sitting position, “What about motive?”
“Don’t you already know that?”
“I want to hear it from you.”
“So tell me first, how was it possible to investigate me?”
“We followed the Taser lead to Tony Weir, and followed it to you.” Luke finished and asked rhetorically, “Your turn, why these three cases.”
Dave said, “Because of love.”
“Pfft ……” Marcus couldn’t help but laugh, “Do you really think you’re a lover?”
“I to wish I was a lover boy, things wouldn’t have gotten this far, what would you black balls know?” Dave looked aside to Luke, “Why is a guy like this in the interrogation room? Is there no one left in the detective bureau?”
Luke made a silent gesture to Marcus, who was off to the side, “Dave, go on.”
“I fell in love with Alyssa my junior year of college, but instead of me, she chose my best friend Steven.
I worked my way up to become a lawyer, got rich, gained status, but lost the woman I loved most.
I thought I could meet a better one and would forget her, but I was wrong.
Every time I saw them together, I rushed to pain and I started distancing myself from them.
Once when I went to a club, I saw Alisa stripping and I couldn’t believe my eyes that my goddess, the woman I considered my life, was doing this.
For the first time since I’ve been a lawyer, I lost my mind ……”
Dave let out a long sigh, “I wanted to help her, I didn’t want her to continue dancing at the club, I confessed to her once again that I wanted him to leave Steven and be with me.
When I said that, it felt like a whole lot of relief.
Steven was my good friend and I had always restrained my feelings for Alyssa.
But Steven didn’t fulfill his responsibility as a husband, and actually let Alisa dance at the club, since he didn’t have the means to take care of Alisa, then I will.
I didn’t expect …… Alisa to say no!”
“Hey man, you’re wrong, picking up girls isn’t like that, you’re too eager.
You’ve seen Alisa’s embarrassing side and when she’s at her most helpless, and as soon as you meet her you say you’re going to give her money and tell her to leave her husband, she’s going to think you’re trying to bag her. Most women would resist.” Marcus waxed eloquent.
Dave asked rhetorically, “So what to do?”
“You should start by asking her out for a drink, the two of you have a nice chat, let her feel your true heart, and then you’ll have your chance. Once the two of you are sleeping together, the rest will fall into place and she won’t resist you anymore.”
Dave didn’t respond, maybe the way Marcus said it was better, but that was only good for picking up girls and having fun.
When you actually met the goddess of your dreams, everything would be different.
Dave was confident in the face of his client and eloquent in court, but when he saw Alyssa he would be too nervous to meet her eyes and talk.
The more you care, the more you fear losing.
Being subdued means you don’t love deeply enough.
Dave had repressed it for so many years, and his heart was in turmoil at that moment.
Lukas pulled back to the point and asked, “Dave, you took revenge on two women with similar appearance to Alyssa because you were rejected by her?”
“The night of February 18th, Alyssa was dancing at the club again …… I really broke down and drank a lot.
I was drunk.
I wanted to take Alisa home and not let her dance in front of other men.
I waited for her near the club and attacked her in the back with a taser …… but I recognized the wrong man.
But I couldn’t help myself and took out my frustration with Alyssa on her and undressed her ……”
Luke made a note in his book and continued, “What about the second victim?”
“Later, Alyssa reached out to me, and I was pretty happy when I went there, thinking she was willing to accept me. It turned out that after we met, the two of us had a big fight.
Someone had secretly taken pictures of Alyssa dancing and put them at her parents’ house, and she suspected that I had done it, and was particularly angry, saying a lot of nasty things, and saying that she wouldn’t pick me even if she picked any random guy from the club.”
“That night I decided to make my move, but didn’t wait for her.
The thought of her dancing in front of all those men made my heart explode.
Another blonde woman was chosen to vent her anger, and now that I think about it …… I’m just crazy.
I wonder if I have a split personality disorder.”
“You’re not having a split personality disorder, you’re jealous.
You have money, status, all aspects are better than Steven, the beloved woman chose Steven.
It makes you miserable, and the longer you repress it, the more violently it erupts.” Luke wasn’t going to give him an excuse to escape justice, moving on to another question, the
“Where’s Steven?”
