Chapter 57
The body was so badly decomposed that it was difficult to conduct an autopsy at the scene, and the coroner brought the body back to the police station.
It wasn’t until after four in the afternoon that the preliminary autopsy was completed.
The medical examiner, Sheila, was a white woman in her thirties who bore some resemblance to Susan.
The resemblance was not in looks, but in temperament, unsmiling and somewhat serious looking.
Medical examiner Sheila said, “The deceased’s body was highly decomposed and died between February 25th and February 28th.
The preliminary autopsy result is strangulation and asphyxiation, because the neck is so corrupted, it is difficult to identify the murder weapon through the wound.
That’s all the information we have for now, and further autopsies will be needed for the rest of the case.”
Susan said, “Sheila, hard work.”
“Yea, it’s a lot of work, something to work on.” Sheila said and turned to leave.
Susan’s eyes scanned the team, “What do you all think?”
The lieutenant said, “First thing we need to do is figure out the identity of the deceased, judging by his clothing and body type, the deceased looks a lot like Tony Weir. And what role did he play in the case?”
Ramon said, “Tim is probably involved in the case as well, should we re-arraign Tim?”
“Tim may be the real culprit in the case, without evidence, he won’t easily admit it, a hasty interrogation will instead scare the snakes.
It’s better to wait until the test results come out and take him down straight away.” The vice squad took out his comb again and gathered his hair, “I do think we can talk to Dave, the lawyer, he and Tony are old acquaintances, he might be able to provide any valuable clues.”
Marcus asked, “Speaking of Dave, he’s a tricky one, could he have something to do with the attack on Lawn as well? Or even that he was the mastermind behind it?”
Luke thought about it and shook his head, “It’s highly unlikely.
The reason why Dave committed the ‘Taser Robbery’ was purely out of his obsession with his goddess crush.
And the cause of Lawn’s attack and Tony’s murder was the will, Dave wasn’t even short of money as a lawyer, he didn’t have to do something like that.”
The lieutenant said, “I agree with Luke, I want to talk to this guy.”
Seven o’clock in the evening.
The front door of the Munn Storage Center.
A red convertible was parked outside and a shapely brunette got out of the car.
Luke walked out of the gate and waved, “Hi, beautiful, can I buy you a drink?”
Daisy laughed, “A ’82 Lafite?”
Luke let out a dry laugh, can we still have a good conversation?
Daisy looked at the doors of the Munn Warehouse Center, “You guys have been checking this place out all day?”
“Yes. The clues you provided were valuable and the case has taken a new turn.”
Daisy pressed, “What did Lawn put in the warehouse?”
“You don’t want to know.”
“I’m even more curious.”
“We found a large box in Lawn’s warehouse, and inside the lid was a highly decomposed body …… that scene …… was shocking.”
“Even Karma, are you bluffing? Why would Lawn put something like that in a warehouse.”
“Things are a little complicated.” Without describing the specifics of the case, Luke asked rhetorically, “Remember when I said Caroline was crazy?”
“Sure. Is she better?”
“We were going to give her a statement today, but the hospital felt that there might be some risk that she would likely be restimulated once she remembered what happened that night.
According to the investigation Caroline was at the warehouse that night and likely saw the body.”
Daisy’s willow brows slightly knitted: “A person ran to the warehouse at night and opened the box inside was a corroded …… even buy Karma’s, this is also too horrible. No wonder Caroline was scared out of her mind.”
Luke suggested, “Let’s go get something to eat, I didn’t have much of an appetite at lunch and now I’m starving.”
“Are you sure you can eat?” Daisy was skeptical.
Luke let out a long breath, “Then buy some fruit to pad your stomach.”
The two bought fruit at the supermarket and Daisy invited Luke to her house to make him a ‘sumptuous’ fruit platter.
Luke is skeptical about this, I can’t fucking cut fruit?
For the last few days, Daisy had been making all sorts of excuses to get Luke to take her home.
It’s not that she’s timid, a woman living alone in a small two-story villa, returning to the dark villa alone at night, most women would be afraid.
Once inside the villa, Daisy took the initiative to go cut the fruit.
Luke sat on the leather couch, poured a glass of red wine and poured himself a drink.
He was bored sitting on the couch and couldn’t help but think about the probate case again.
Originally, he thought the case was a dispute between the beneficiaries of the will, but now it seems it may not be as simple as he thought.
Lawn was attacked.
Daisy was attacked.
Caroline went crazy.
The suspected Tony Weir is murdered.
Luke then associates himself with Brooke, Sophia, and Emma.
Those three didn’t look like they could go so dark anyhow.
Besides, as long as these three people weren’t stupid, they should have known that the police would have to be suspicious of them for making such a big commotion.
But to say that the three had absolutely nothing to do with this case, he didn’t believe it either.
From the available evidence, the suspects probably attacked Lawn, got the warehouse key and social security card from Lawn, and a group of people wanted to enter the warehouse to commit the theft.
Afterward, the suspect’s group had an infighting and killed the suspect, Tony.
If Luke’s guess is correct, what exactly was Lawn hiding in the warehouse? Could it cause the gang to implode and go out of their way to kill someone?
Luke grew more and more curious about the case.
Daisy came over with two fruit trays and saw Luke staring at the couch, “Hey, what’s on your mind?”
“Thinking about that case.”
Daisy laughed, “You don’t get paid overtime for thinking about cases in my house.”
“I was thinking about solving the case sooner so you don’t have to worry and be scared.”
Daisy stuck a piece of apple with a toothpick and handed it to Luke, “Having you drive me home every day doesn’t keep you from your work, does it.”
“It’s a small thing, and I don’t want to work overtime anyway. I’m just worried about your safety when I’m gone ……”
“Whoa whoa, don’t scare me, I’m a little freaked out right now after hearing what happened to Caroline, I’ll probably have to sleep with the lights on tonight.”
Luke ate his apple, “How are you thinking about the bodyguard?”
Daisy flattened her mouth with a hint of a petulant tone, “You’re not really bugging me, are you?”
“I just want to make sure you’re safe.”
“I thought about hiring a bodyguard …… but I don’t like strangers in the house.” Daisy gave a worried look.
“I’ve seen a movie before where someone hired a bodyguard after an attack, and it turned out that the bodyguard was the suspect, and the heroine didn’t even have a chance to run. It’s scary to think about.”
Luke laughed, “Then you still brought me home, not afraid of leading the wolf into the house.”
“I believe you.” Daisy’s tone was flat and sincere.
She hadn’t slept well for a few days in a row, as soon as she closed her eyes, she felt that there was someone next to her, and that feeling was really bad.
Luke could bring her a sense of security.
“That’s comforting to hear.” Luke smiled and grabbed Daisy’s hand, “Do you want me to stay with you tonight.”
Daisy sounded a little off, but didn’t say no and switched, “That’s a good offer, why don’t you come be my bodyguard. I can pay on time, how about that?”
“I don’t want money.”
Talking about money, that would be an employment relationship.
Luke’s meaning was clear, brother doesn’t want money, he just craves your body.
Daisy looked at Luke with a scrutinizing gaze, “I can’t let you protect me for nothing, I have to express my gratitude. What do you want?”
Want to sleep with you.
But that kind of thing can be thought about and paid for.
It can’t be said outright.
Luke replied, “Buy me breakfast every day, made by hand.”
“Deal, I’ll go help you clean up the guest room.”
