“Am I bad?” Inuyasha’s face stank and he lifted his step to walk over, “Seeing me is like seeing a ghost.”
“Don’t you come any closer!” Her gaze glued to the car, guarded.
Wells Yan was stopped by her mournful voice, stopping in his tracks and tilting his head to look at her, his finger pointing back, “People are in the car, they won’t wake up without two or three hours.” Seeing the doubt still in her gaze, he shrugged, “What’s the point of staring at me, it’s not like I’m his enemy.” He approached and squatted down, looking at Shan Yanxiu who had fallen into a comatose state, his mouth tsked and whispered, “What a surprise.
Her bloodstained hands grabbed onto him, “Please, please take us to the hospital for a bit. He’s been bleeding.”
Inuyasha waved her hand away, “To the hospital? Don’t be ridiculous. I think it’s best if you guys go upstairs, pack your things and get ready to run.” He gestured two fingers, “You have two hours.”
She froze for a long moment, then suddenly growled, “You’re nuts, where can he go in this condition?” She braced herself and stood up, “We’re going to the hospital and calling the police!”
“Call the police? You really think the police can solve all problems.” Wellsword looked at her like she was looking at a monster, “If you’re smart, go upstairs, pack up and run.”
“You’re insane!” She growled, her fingers shivering on the cell phone buttons as she managed to pull out the three digits that saved her life. But the call was answered and before she could get a word in the phone was snatched away, flung hard to the ground, the battery bouncing off a long way. She looked blankly at the broken cell phone, lioness-like pounced up, kicking and punching, “Bastard asshole, I want to call the police, I want to call the police to arrest you all! There’s still no justice! Security, security!”
Jing Yan was already annoyed to the core by her head-splitting whacks, and grabbed her shoulders to push her away viciously, “Crazy, unbelievable!”
She fell on the concrete floor, her palms bursting with fiery pain, her eyes baring, but her voice was still sharp, “Bastard, I want to call the police! I’m calling the police to arrest all of you maniacs!” Just as she was in the midst of her despair, a faint moan suddenly came from behind her. She followed the sound and looked, the originally unconscious Shan Yanxiu had woken up at some point, and was holding the car door and struggling to stand up, “Listen to him, don’t call the police.”
“You were also knocked silly.” She muttered, “You’re all fucking crazy.” Or else she was dreaming, but how could it be so real. She froze, her mind blank until a weight settled on her shoulders, “Let’s go up first.” Turning her head to look at his blood faded face, but there was no expression of pain on it, it was as calm as if nothing had happened.
She settled down and strained to hold him up, her eyes sliding down the side of his ashen face, “You’ll have to explain that to me when we get up there.” His tall stature was really weighing her down, but after just a few steps she was already a little overwhelmed. He also sensed her weight bearing and shifted his center of gravity, intentionally or unintentionally. She soon realized this and raised her head to ask for help from Jing Yan, who was walking in front of her in a relaxed manner.
Wells Yan didn’t even look back, “Don’t, my hands hurt from punching someone just now, I don’t have the strength anymore. Besides, why should I help?” She was suddenly furious, “If you don’t want to help, you can spit out everything that you ate from me, and you have to be what you were when you ate it and spit it out!”
“Isn’t it just a few stewed chickens, a few roast ducks and dozens of skewers of barbecued meat that I ate, I still bought the stuff.”
“Little brother Jing Yan, don’t you want strength for processing? Try eating raw meat and see!” She yelled, “Come over here and help me!”
Ya Xiao had never had the experience of packing to escape in her entire life, but she had no choice but to tough it out when it came down to it. When she returned to the master bedroom after she had scrambled to pack a bag, the smell of blood that permeated the room caused her to dry-heave a few times. Blood-stained cotton and bandages were scattered messily on the floor, along with a strange smell of potion.
“Hey, help me get the scissors.” Wellsword ordered with his back to her.
In a trembling voice, she asked, “What are you doing with the scissors?” Watching his movements from behind, could it be ……
“Cutting threads, are you going to let him drag a ball of thread around,” Wellsword said rather impatiently.
She handed over the scissors with a shaking hand glancing up at his wound in passing, her heart clenched suddenly, the shirt over his injury had been torn open and the glass was gone. The wound had been cleaned and could be seen clearly, it was a not so small wound, stabbed at an oblique angle. At this moment, Inuyasha’s hand was turning up and down, performing the final stitching work.
“The stabbing wasn’t deep and didn’t hurt the internal organs, so it’s not a big problem.” Wellsword stood up, took off the rubber gloves on his hands and threw them to the side, turning his head to her, “Although you can’t run, it’s still okay to walk slower.”
She slowly walked to his side and half crouched down, seeing that his face was a little paler and his hands had become unusually cold. Alarmed that something was wrong, she whipped her head around and questioned, “You didn’t anesthetize him?”
“What do you need that for, it’s not like he can’t carry it.” Jing Yan looked at the man who had been expressionless from the beginning, and bristled, “Don’t worry, it’s not like it’s the first time he’s encountered this kind of thing.”
Ya Xiao looked at the two men, always feeling something strange, “Do you guys know each other?”
“Don’t know each other,” Inuyasha pocketed his hands in his pants pockets, “I’m leaving first, there’s still an hour to go, get ready to run.”
Ya Xiao blocked him with open hands, “No, you have to help me get him to the car, just get to the car, please help me.”
Jing Yan became even more impatient, “I said you’re overdoing it, how many times have I helped you, don’t give me an inch!” Seeing her open her mouth to argue again she hurriedly opened her mouth to block her, “If you keep nagging I’ll go to the toilet and spit out everything I ate from you.”
This kid is really sharp, how long has he eaten and still managed to spit it out. Ya Xiao was so shocked by his roguish appearance that she froze in place for a moment.
“Xiao Xiao, let him go.” Shan Yan Xiu sat his body upright and placed his hands interlocked on his abdomen, his face had some blood color at this time, unlike earlier when it was pale and oozing, “Thanks, Little Brother Jing.” Wells Yan looked at him, his face floating with urgency, “I didn’t think I’d receive a token of thanks from you, it’s really rare.”
“That’s not good,” she growled sharply, in case something else popped up halfway through the trip, wouldn’t he be at the mercy of the others? “I’m just asking you to help me get him downstairs and into the car.”
“No, we don’t have to go down.” Shan Yan Xiu slowly said, “Just stay here.”
Wellsword raised an eyebrow, a hint of surprise sweeping across the bottom of his eyes. Her reaction, however, was much greater, “That’s not going to work, they’re definitely going to look for us.” Staying here was undoubtedly a sitting duck.
Shan Yanxiu shook his head, “That won’t happen. Haven’t you heard that the most dangerous place is the safest place? Just stay here, it’s fine.” He exhaled, “Xiao Xiao, go to the study, open the second drawer of the desk, there’s a telephone inside, bring it.”
Jing Yan watched her leave with cold eyes, his voice turned cold as he turned his head, “The most dangerous place is the safest place, humph, she’s really good at fooling people.”
“That’s what happens when you’ve watched too many dramas.” Shan Yan Xiu closed his eyes, “You should go.”
Jing Yan cocked his head at him and smiled suddenly, “Just like that? Don’t you want me to help get rid of her?”
“No labor.” He was faint, “If Yu Ge Ran knows you did me a favor, he’ll skin you.”
Jing Yan restrained his smile and frowned, “Right oh, my former boss your fellow officer Yu Ge Ran really hates you. Then again you really have a lot of enemies, most of them were made when you were in the Crisis Handling Department, right? That’s really a thankless position, you actually managed to sit there for so long.”
“In addition to dealing with things that can’t be solved with normal hands outside the group, clearing out the internal trash is also one of the key tasks.” Single Yan Xiu mouth corner holding a smile, slightly ironic, “For example, you such impulsive good thing, fight the brave and ruthless kid, if it falls into my hands I will first shut you down for three days, do the initial freezing treatment and then little by little to repair you into shape.”
“At this point you can still put this kind of harsh words, no wonder Beili will go to such great lengths to catch you. I guess aside from his ulterior motives, there’s one other thing,” Inuyasha shrugged his shoulders, “You’re not normally one to be beaten.”
“Overkill.”
Inuyasha looked at him steadily, “The group has been completely bleached out, they only need departments that can make money from legitimate sources now, and they don’t need people like you anymore. So by putting you on the shelf and letting Berry do this to you, do you feel willing? They promised you a quiet life, a clean identity, made you think you could find a woman to settle down with and get married and have children like normal people, and you still really believe that?”
“This is my business.” Shan Yanxiu’s face was unchanged, “You should leave.”
“Yu Ge Ran said that you’re a person who makes people unhappy even with just a glance, and that even one more word with you makes people want to blow themselves up, and it’s true that it’s exactly right.” Jing Yan angrily turned around, just in time to bump into Ya Xiao who came with her cell phone, gruffly, “I’m leaving.”
“Oi ……”
“What for,” Wells Yan fiercely, “Have something to say, that pervert is still down there!”
She snapped, “I just wanted to say thank you.”
Wellsword’s face cleared a little, his tone still bad, and he turned toward the door, muttering, “Pair of idiots.”
She handed him the phone and ran to lock the door again, returning to see him staring at the screen of his cell phone. She’d never seen him like this before, like he’d lost his anger and didn’t have the slightest bit of luster anymore. She took a step and moved over to him, half crouching down like she had earlier, “Are you okay.”
He smiled as if snapping back from his contemplation, “It’s nothing, I just got in touch with Silent Night.”
Her spirits lifted, what a relief to remember the power of the thousand-handed goddess, “So when is she coming?”
“She has something going on right now so she won’t be coming over for a while, I have something very important here that you have to take to her right away,” he took out a small and delicate USB flash drive from his pocket, “The seventh floor of the Long An Mansion, that’s where she is.”
She was uneasy, “Then how can you be alone while I’m gone? Can’t she come? It’s okay for her to come later if it’s safe here.”
“Silent Night is inconvenient in her identity and this is important. You’re new to them, so it’s okay to send it as you.” His hand fell on her shoulder, “I’m safe here, don’t worry.”
“Good then, I’ll go now and be back soon.” She didn’t doubt it and put the flash drive close to her, looking up at him with a fierce gaze, “You damn well better not be lying to me, if I run off in front of you and you slip away in the back you’re going to have to leave my Kobo photos here and give them back to me too.
He poofed out a laugh that tugged at his wound, “Fine, I’ll give it back to you when you get back.” He lifted his hand and extended his pinky finger, curving it into a moonhook in mid-air, “It’s a deal.”
She bit her lip and stepped forward to reach out and hook it, “Damn you’re going to lie I won’t let you go even if I’m a ghost.”
He watched as the hurried and slightly flustered back disappeared behind the door before letting out a slow breath, relaxing his body slowly until it was fully attached to the chair. Go away, go a little longer and it would all be over before she returned. By then she would be living a normal 9-5 day like before, working part time to make money to buy bad hand-me-downs. She could eat whatever she wanted, and she wouldn’t have to worry about sleeping anymore. She will no longer have a timid look on her face, and will no longer be hypocritical to wring her hands and smile to please him!
It was he who had been extravagant and hard-wired her into his life. In retrospect he realized how foolish he had acted. But it didn’t matter, when it was over soon she would forget him as a person, forget this memory that could be considered horrible for her, and after that love and hate would never be relevant ……
“It’s really not a good day,” he sighed softly, “never again will we celebrate the winter solstice.”
The hands on his watch moved little by little as the minutes ticked by. The air around him began to get colder, and there was suddenly a treacherous atmosphere.
He closed his eyes and tilted his ears to listen to the sound of footsteps from afar that seemed disorganized and rushed because of their haste. When he heard the outer door open, a sneer rose to the corners of his mouth. He had really underestimated Berry for daring to come in single-handedly. He sat motionless, even closing his eyes to rest peacefully.
The shoes made a rustling sound as they rubbed against the carpet, coming unwaveringly in his direction. The cold touch came as expected, and only then did he slowly open his eyes, “I really underestimated – you? How is it you?”
Shan Yan Xiu’s voice from the calm egg butt changed tone all of a sudden, even with a hint of panic, “Why are you-” before his words fell a black shadow smashed hard towards his head, heavy objects collided with bones, making a dull sound. His body then lurched to the side and slumped.
The visitor smashed the murder weapon on the ground, his voice hateful, “Dead sinful animal, you want to coax me away by this time? It’s not that easy!”
