Part 1 The Joker Chapter 204 – The Visitors
Upon seeing this, Klein and Leonard simultaneously lifted their eyes from the letterhead, glanced at each other, and each grunted:
”This is a lunatic, I’m afraid?”
”Llanerus is a hidden lunatic?”
Truly a lunatic with delusions of grandeur and antisocial personality …… Klein’s thoughts turned, his heart tightened, and he busied himself by casting his eyes back to the letter:
”Ladies and gentlemen, my cue is that I have planted a bomb in Tingen City, one that will grow stronger over time.”
”Go in search of it and tackle it before it explodes on its own, if the game fails, boom, the whole city of Tingen will be in ruins, and believe me, I’m not engaging in any deception in this matter.”
”Llanerus, who likes to surprise his friends the most.”
”Bombs?” Klein looked over at Leonard and muttered to himself in confusion.
Leonard held the letter up to the sunlight and glanced it over and over a few times, finding no other clues:
”Bomb should just be a synonym, I’ve never heard of a bomb that keeps getting stronger.”
Klein frowned thoughtfully as he replied:
”No, I mean, it might be a bomb in the occult sense, like some evil ritual that keeps building up its power ……”
Leonard sidled his head, as if listening to something, and his expression suddenly became grave.
He nodded with his green eyes shrinking slightly, “Perhaps your suspicions are correct, isn’t there a description in the front of this letter? The child laborers who constantly die young, the factory workers who rarely live past ten years due to circumstances and hard work, the female workers who risk serious illness and only receive a meager paycheck, the factories that are shrouded in countless grievances, this may be the source of the power that allows that ‘bomb’ of Llanerus to continue to grow stronger.”
”Yes …… very likely!” Klein’s emotions tensed at once, “We must report to the captain immediately!”
Leonard chuckled:
”Don’t be so tense, you should know very well that Lanlus is a ‘swindler’, and his description of ‘no deception’ might be deceptive itself.”
”Of course, either way, we need to get back to Zoltan Street and tell the captain that it would be a good idea to apply to the Sanctuary so they can send over an occultist to find the location of the altar through the unnatural pooling of those grudges.”
A very skillful look… …… But why would a similar altar with a similar setup need the help of Hood Orgen? What role could a “psychiatrist” play in such a matter? Klein did not object, and together with Leonard, they left the 62nd block of Howells and took a rented carriage back to Zoltan Street.
Just entered the door of Blackthorn Security Company, Klein saw two acquaintances, one plump, one thin, it is the wife and sister of Senator Maynard.
They still wore black dresses and hats, and covered their features with fine-gauge black veils.
The two ladies were about to talk to Roxanne when they suddenly saw Klein return and turned their bodies to meet them.
”You are truly some of the most elite personnel in this industry.” Mrs. Maynard nodded gently and said in a low voice, “I’m very satisfied with the result and appreciate the style of work you did, this is the payment you deserve.”
The thin lady handed Klein a light brown paper bag containing thick stacks of cash in ten pound denominations, five pounds, one pound, and five and one soule.
”That’s 230 pounds in total.” The skinny lady said simply.
How could Klein care about the money right now, he immediately threw it to Roxanne and said, “You take it to Mrs. Oleanna, I don’t think the two honorable ladies will count the money wrongly.”
At this time, out of the corner of his eye, he swept the copy of the Tingen City Honest Newspaper in Mrs. Maynard’s hand, and on the front page, in the most distinctive position, there were two news items:
”Old Baronet’s Widow Dies as a Result of Involvement in the Murder of Councillor Maynard.
”The Mayor, Mr. Dennis, resigns, apologizing for the deterioration of law and order in Tingen during the last three months.
So, Mrs. Sharon’s case is finally settled? I haven’t even had a chance to read the paper today …… Klein nodded to the two ladies and followed Leonard through the partition towards the captain’s office.
”Well? Any luck with the clues?” Dunn-Smith closed his papers and raised his head, looking at Klein and Leonard with his dark gray eyes.
”There was a letter left by Lanlus found.” Leonard didn’t describe it too much, directly handing the captain the letter, full of madness and provocation.
Dunn unfolded the letter paper and quickly skimmed through it, rubbing the corner of his forehead at the end:
”What a madman.”
”He’s only Sequence 8, Sequence 7 at most.”
Klein heartily agreed, “Lanlus is a dangerous person who is very destructive to social stability, even if he is weak, he cannot be taken lightly.”
He then described his and Leonard’s speculations as they were.
Dunn touched his receding hairline and said:
”That’s what I was thinking, I’ll immediately send a telegram to the Sanctuary and ask them to send an occultist to assist.”
”Who knows just how dangerous Llanerus’ so-called ‘bomb’ is, we must be careful enough.”
”When the Holy Church gives me an answer, I’ll arrange for a follow-up.”
Klein and Leonard looked at each other and nodded at the same time:
”Okay.”
Taking advantage of the captain’s chance to shoot a telegram to Sanctuary, Klein returned to the reception hall and took a copy of the Tingen City Honest Newspaper from Roxanne.
He stood in the partitioned position and read up intently on the two news items from earlier:
”…… Mrs. Sherron, widow of the old baronet of the Hoy family, is suspected of being connected with the sudden death of Councillor Maynard. …… The police department, having received a tip-off, went out in the night, and found that Mrs. Sherron and her accomplices had knocked out the servants and attendants, and were carrying out a murder in her bedroom. who refused to surrender and attempted to fight back, causing the death of a valiant police officer, as they engaged in devil worship in her bedroom.”
”In the end, Mrs. Sherron and her cohorts paid for their sinful enterprise with their lives.”
……
”…… The Mayor, Mr. Dennis, resigned due to the deteriorating security situation in Tingen and announced that he will not be running for office next year, and that the Deputy Mayor, Mr. Harry, will be acting as Mayor for the next few months.”
……
A valiant police officer …… Is that a description of Cornley? Klein sighed, knowing it was the best way to handle the situation.
According to the internal rules of the Nightwatchmen, even if sacrificed, the names could not be extolled by the general public in order to protect against retaliation by the forces of evil against their respective families.
As he silently folded the newspaper and returned it to the reception desk, Klein suddenly saw another visitor enter the doorway.
She was also a lady, but not very old, in her early twenties at the most, wearing a ruffled hat and a loose skirt, with a polished forehead, long blonde hair, turquoise eyes, and a melancholic and serene temperament, a rather nice beauty.
The most noticeable thing about her was the high bulging belly, which seemed to be more than seven months pregnant.
Klein froze for a moment, feeling like he had seen this young pregnant woman somewhere.
Suddenly, he heard Leonard say offhandedly in shock:
”Ms. Mego Oss?”
Mei Gaoos …… Yes, the young girl who was cheated by Lanlus! She was pregnant with Lanlus’s child, and her spirit was all a little out of it, saying that her child would hum and whistle in her mother’s womb …… Klein dawned on him for a moment, and wasn’t surprised that Leonard would know Mego Oss.
The girl’s picture had been seen by every night watchman as he re-examined the people and things associated with the Langlois case.
Klein, on the other hand, had known her even earlier, when her aunt, Ms. Christina, who had been cheated out of her savings by Lanlus, had taken her to the Divination Club to ask for help, and had even asked for words on whether or not the child in her womb counted as a related item.
At this time, Mego Oss, who heard Leonard’s voice, looked at the two with slightly lifeless eyes and politely saluted:
”Greetings.”
”Ms. Mego Oss, what are you doing here at our Blackthorn Security Company? Is there anything you need to entrust?” Klein took two steps forward and opened his mouth to ask.
He was filled with disbelief at Mego Oss’s sudden visit, feeling that it was very, very, very coincidental.
Just after discovering the letter left by Lanlus, Mego Oss came to his door?
Mego Oss rubbed her stomach and smiled lightly:
”I don’t know why, but I suddenly thought of coming to Zotran Street, and suddenly thought of coming up to take a look.”
Her mental problems are getting worse ah …… Klein remembered that he didn’t have time to turn on his spiritual vision last time and failed to confirm Mego Oss’s state, so his teeth were lightly lifted and he was about to tap lightly to the left.
Just then, he suddenly froze, and a thought flashed within his mind that was stronger than one:
”Can’t look!”
”Can’t look! Can’t look!”
”It will kill you!”
”You’ll die if you see it!”
”You’ll die if you see it!”
……
Klein stood statuesque, a dense cold sweat seeping from his forehead.
It was like he was having the deepest and most profound nightmare, and he was nearly unable to wake up.
Suddenly, he understood one thing, and that was that last time, he was not too late to open his spiritual vision, but rather, his spirituality sensed an unimaginable danger, causing him to subconsciously become sluggish, missing the opportunity and forgetting to follow through.
At that time, Klein had not yet completely digested the “Diviner” magic potion, had not yet been promoted to Sequence 8, the aura’s block was very subtle and difficult to detect, like instinctively doing a habitual action, one’s own certainly will not pay too much attention to it, but now, based on the “Joker” premonition of the aura! The reminder was so clear, so obvious!
After ten seconds or so, Klein finally broke out of his cold sweat, and looked sideways at Leonard to find that the Midnight Poet also had a cold sweat on his face and his eyes were full of fear.
Suddenly, Klein realized what the “bomb” was that Llanerus was talking about!
It was the baby in Megoeth’s stomach!
It was the baby he left behind!
Kline instantly recalled the description in the letter and Hood Eugene’s answer, and suddenly remembered a passage from Roselle’s diary:
”The Industrial Revolution that I started with my own hands, the Age of Steam and Machinery that I forged with my own hands, will become a hotbed for the birth of evil gods?”
Klein’s pupils contracted for a moment, thinking of a possibility, but instinctively refusing to recognize it:
No! It wasn’t right!
The baby in Megoeth’s womb was not the heir of an evil god, or an evil god attempting to descend!
NO! How could Hood Orgen do something so stupid! Though it is true that his “psychiatrist” powers could have helped Llanurse conceal Megoeth’s conception while she was in a semi-comatose state.
No! The resentment of child laborers who died young, women who died, and factory workers who didn’t live more than ten years wasn’t helping the evil god’s heir to grow up fast!
NO!
No, Not to Look God in the Eye ……
