Chapter 72: Her Past (Part 1)
This file is thicker than the average person’s file. It is bound together with more than ten pages. I can’t say what kind of mood I was in, because the woman in the photo was most likely the ghost Rakshasa. I was actually reading a file on a ghost Rakshasa, so this kind of thought inevitably made my mood a little strange.
When I opened the file, the first thing I saw was a photo that was stuck in the file! I didn’t expect that Lushan had actually gotten a photo, so out of curiosity, I picked up the photo.
This is the oldest color photo I have ever seen. It must have been taken in the early days of color photography. The colors are not as natural and soft as modern color photos, but rather a bit harsh.
The people in the photo also looked a bit rustic, with the women having perms and the men having parted hair. But this could not hide the brilliance of the “leading man and woman” in the photo.
The photo was probably taken at a banquet, with many people sitting around in a lively atmosphere. However, the main focus of the photo was a couple or a married couple. The wife in the couple had a beautiful face, a slightly lowered head, and a shy, happy smile. The man next to her was holding a meatball with chopsticks, and with the other hand carefully catching the meatball’s soup, he was passing it to his wife’s mouth.
I took a closer look at the man. He had thick eyebrows and big eyes, a very handsome face, and was tall. He was feeding his wife some food, right? In the photo, I saw that his eyes were not looking at the camera, but were looking at his wife with love and tenderness. His gentle gaze seemed to have silenced the lively banquet scene.
I looked at the photo blankly. If time is relentless, then photos are the only thing that can record the “then” in cruel time. This photo is exceptionally beautiful. It records not two handsome men and beautiful women, but a deep affection. From the photo, I see a loving couple.
If they were so in love, why did they turn into ghosts? In fact, from the first glance at the photo, I already recognized the woman as the ghost Rakshasa. Although the ghost Rakshasa’s face was terrifying, her facial features never changed!
The man, however, was a stranger to me. Could it be that he was the real Chen Nuo?
With endless questions, I finally opened the file and began to read carefully about the things that the ghost Rakshasa had done in the human world.
She had a very beautiful name, called Yucui Zi! She was born in the 1950s in a small town called X (the town where Fu Yuan was from).
In an era when people were passionate about naming their children after things like love or the army, her name was so unique that she was as beautiful as her name, and her neighbors all praised her.
Cuizi, a woman standing in the midst of verdant greenery, full of vitality and extremely beautiful, isn’t she?
The beauty of Yucuizi was praised by her neighbors, and Yucuizi herself was also very popular with her neighbors. Because her parents were intellectuals, she had received a good education from a young age, which had cultivated her good character. She was well-mannered, well-educated, and peaceful.
In those days, Yucui was almost a girl without flaws in people’s eyes, with all kinds of beauty in one, and her future should be bright. People firmly believed that Yucui would be the first college student in the town.
But fate is always bumpy, and history is always full of ups and downs. Yucui did not get the opportunity to go to college, and she went to the countryside!
On that day, she left with the other young people in the town. The atmosphere was solemn and enthusiastic, full of the passion of that era. Only Yucui was alone in the corner of the caravan, sad.
Before that, her parents had already been investigated because of some problems, and the warm home she had known since childhood had suddenly become unstable. Once she set foot on this road, the dream of going to university that she had cherished since childhood meant that it was buried. There was no reason to be happy about anything, and the weather was not sunny, but drizzling. Was the sky also grieving with her?
Amidst the sound of drums and gongs, the caravan finally started to move slowly. A group of young people were about to say goodbye to their familiar hometown and go to an unfamiliar world to start their life of being sent to the countryside.
Yucui was alone in the corner, a little dazed. The enameled mug rattled along with the car, ‘clanging, clanging’ on the floor of the car, adding to the irritation.
“Yucuizi, do you remember me?” A pleasant baritone voice sounded in Yucuizi’s ear. The gentle tone and a little warmth made Yucuizi come back to her senses.
She turned her head in surprise, and the first thing that came into view was a face with a bright smile, full of youthful exuberance, with perfectly shaped eyebrows and eyes! This was the first time that Yucui Zi had seen him since they had met again, and he looked so familiar!
She should have remembered him. He had thick eyebrows and big eyes, a nice smile with white teeth, and thick black hair. In elementary school, he was the most talked about boy, and the most talked about girl.
His name is… Yu Cuizi frowned slightly, looking at the big boy in front of her, and said uncertainly, “You, you are Chen…”
“I’m Chen Nuo. Such an easy name to remember. Have you forgotten me?” He made a slightly aggrieved expression, then quickly made a face, and Yu Cuizi was immediately amused.
The overcast sky also miraculously cleared up a little at this time, and Chen Nuo, with a smile on his face, accompanied by the sky that was about to clear up, once again entered the life of Yu Cuizi.
Before that, they were just classmates in elementary school, and they only had a few words to say to each other.
At that time, Yucuizi was a good girl who was devoted to her studies. She had never paid any attention to the popular boy at her age, and she only heard about him occasionally, but she didn’t care.
This is all before the story begins.
Life in the countryside was very difficult. Although the young people in this group did not go to the worst rural areas, they suddenly went from the city to the countryside, had to adapt to farm work that they had never done before, and ate food that was worse than in the city. How could these young people not think that it was difficult?
Moreover, all the work was not done at will. In those days, there was a special term called “work points”.
Yucui also found it hard. During her time there, she no longer dared to dream of her university dream. She no longer had time to pick up the textbooks she had brought with her, and her once-beautiful hands gradually became rough.
What’s more, because of her parents, her days in the countryside were not easy at all. She always had more responsibilities than others, and was always bullied more.
The only thing that could comfort her was the presence of her elementary school classmate, Chen Nuo!
He always protected her, he always encouraged her, and he always thought of ways to help her with her chores, even though he had a heavy burden himself.
Gradually, because of these hardships, they became closer and closer, and the budding feelings of youth also sprouted moving buds in this slightly bitter land.
But in those days, all feelings were repressed, and they were very pure, and their feelings were never revealed.
“Cuizi, let’s meet at our usual place after dinner today,” Chen Nuo said to Yu Cuizi that day.
They had met in the same place many times before, which was actually a relatively remote place. They would go for a walk together, and the most they would talk about was Chen Nuo’s encouragement to her.
The time for these meetings was very limited, usually about half an hour. If they went out for too long, there would inevitably be gossip.
It was just a casual meeting, and Yu Cuizi didn’t think much about it. She was very happy and simply agreed. After all, she already had a lot of good feelings for Chen Nuo, and she would not normally refuse him.
After dinner, on a lazy summer evening, they met again at the old place.
Although life in the countryside is certainly more difficult than in the city, it also has its advantages, such as the beautiful pastoral scenery. Although the place where Chen Nuo and Yu Cuizi met was remote, it was also a place with beautiful scenery.
There was a small forest on the side, and walking out of the forest was a clear stream. They often walked along the stream.
On this day, as usual, they walked along the stream, but unlike the past, Chen Nuo was a bit sullen that day, always looking like he wanted to say something but couldn’t, which made Yu Cuizi a bit sullen too.
“Chen Nuo, is there something on your mind?” Yu Cuizi asked.
Chen Nuo stopped walking at this moment, suddenly grabbed Yu Cuizi’s hands, and all their entanglements began from this moment.
