Lament of Abandonment
The poem “Sun and Moon, your radiance illuminates the earth. The man I married no longer treats me as he did in the past. How did things come to this? He cares not for me at all. Sun and Moon, the earth is adorned with your light. The man I married no longer loves me as before. How did things change like this? He disregards the bonds of marriage. Sun and Moon, you rise from the east every day. The man I married no longer comforts me with kind words. How did things come to this? Forget those unscrupulous acts. Sun and Moon, you rise from the east every day. I revered him as a father, cherished him as a mother, yet he does not repay me with kindness. How did things turn out like this, with no peace for him either! This is a poem of a deserted woman lamenting her grievances. The “Introduction to the Book of Songs” says, “‘Sun and Moon’, Wei Zhuangjiang injured himself. In the face of the Zou Yu disaster, he did not see a response from the former lord, leading to a poem of distress.” Zhu Xi’s “Collected Poems Commentary” says, “Zhuangjiang did not see a response from Zhuanggong, so he called upon the sun and moon to complain. He speaks of the sun and moon’s long-standing illumination of the earth, but now there is such a person who does not follow the old ways, his heart is confused, and how can there be stability?” They all say this poem was written after Wei Zhuangjiang was abandoned by Zhuanggong, and the author is Wei Zhuangjiang, referring to the man accused by Wei Zhuanggong. While Lu Shi believes that Xuan Jiang, the wife of Xuan Gong of Wei, wanted to kill the crown prince Ji for her own son to succeed to the throne, and Ji died to save his life. After later people were injured, they made this poem. Nowadays, most people think it is a poem about an abandoned woman’s complaint about her husband’s infidelity.
The first chapter of the poem takes readers into this realm: under the radiance of the sun or moon, a woman is beside her house calling upon the sun and moon to complain: the sun and moon can shine on the earth as usual, so why can’t my husband think of me as he did before! The first sentence of each chapter in the future as the starting pick is also auxiliary. The sun and moon come from the East, shining on the earth, there is a set place, and the “people” who are married are quite confused, “how to keep”. The author’s repeated chanting of the sun and the moon is for the purpose of setting off his repeated emphasis on “how can you keep”. The second and third chapters continue the previous chapters, truly “one complaint is not, and then the complaint, the complaint is not, the three complaints.” The fourth chapter was painful, already extremely, no alternative, only self-parenthood and sighs of their birth, the emotional back of the previous turning, to this sudden, play a heart string, “the blame is unreasonable, but there is at the end” (Niu Yunzhen ” Poetry “). The poem does not specifically describe the inner pain of the deserted woman, but focuses on the psychological portrayal of the abandoned woman. The protagonist’s inner world is very complicated, with a sense of being abandoned and resentful, accusing her husband of being unstable. At the same time, she missed her husband very much, still hoping that her husband could change his mind and “care” (miss) her, “report” (respond to) her. Rationally, she is aware that her husband’s “virtue and music are unscrupulous”; emotionally, she still hopes that her husband can “domesticate me” to “die”. Zhu Xi’s “Collected Poems Commentary” says, “Seeing abandonment like this, there is still hope in the end. This poem is thick.” This contradiction between abandonment and hope is exactly the expression of the true feelings of the abandoned woman. Therefore, “Sun and Moon” can strongly shock readers’ minds. Extending the analysis, ancient scholars thought it was a poem of an abandoned woman’s appeal and resentment, and many people believed it was “Wei Zhuangjiang” (Wei Zhuanggong’s wife) lamenting the “Zou Yu disaster” (Wei Zhuanggong’s son, “Gong Zi Zou Yu”, the first instance of the prince of love) The palace coup) the poor poem. This point of view seems to be well-founded, and the sun and moon metaphor for the king and the wife, the widow Zhuanjiang witnessed the palace turmoil (“Gong Zi Zou Yu” first opened to the throne and killed the Duke of Zhuang and the Eastern Expedition) the opposition against Zhu Xiu and her own life, leaving the poem in his memory, was Wang Zhouhong.
