Chapter 392
Zhu Yuyan made this decision almost immediately.
She was going to steal Jin Julie out.
This was very uncool.
It would ruin their current relationship with Yamamoto.
She and Su Chunjun had gotten on good terms with Yamamoto in order to help the people of this city last longer,in order to get more information, in order to have more advantages.
For many, many more.
All of these should weigh more than Jinjuri’s life alone.
It might even cause one of her and Su Chunjun’s lives to be in danger – like her.
Maybe both lives would be in danger.
But sometimes people just do things that are not calm and rational.
When Zhu Yuyan looked at Jin Juli’s expression at this moment, she thought – if I don’t save her, she will die.
This is the crisis right in front of you, can not allow you to have more time to think about the gains and losses, to weigh.
She also thought about the fact that she had come back from so far away, she had gotten the love of her family, she had gotten love, she had learned a positive attitude towards life, she had fallen in love with learning, she had got like-minded friends, she had got faith and ideals.
She had so much, and what did she give the world in return.
Back at the Su residence, she stood in front of the window in her bedroom.
The curtains were drawn, in order to prevent assassination, all the curtains in all the rooms were drawn day and night.
She didn’t open the curtains; if she did, it would only make the soldiers patrolling outside nervous.
As she stood here, the scene in front of her eyes was what she had seen on the street when she was on the upper floors of Zhu’s building.
Every time she stood here she imagined that street, that street of traffic. It was vibrant. Hawkers shouting and selling, the road full of people, young people riding their bicycles like crazy, rushing down the street, the road behind the grandpas and grandmas cursing, the policeman patrolling the street walking in a hangdog manner, like a hooligan, the car honking its siren, justifiably looking down on pedestrians on the street, as if the whole road was his family’s living room.
How many did she save from so many people at that time?
She had given out a lot of food on the street, but had she really saved people, or had she just kept them alive for a few more days.
She and Su Chunjun tried to support the order of the city, but helped the Japanese to open factories, did they give the people a way to live, or did they let them fall into slavery.
At least half of what the newspapers scolded them for, she agreed with as she read it.
Was it saving, or was it just living on.
Right now, she could save Julie Kim.
She knew unequivocally that she could save her.
She could create a mess, a riot, or use Yamamoto’s trust to get Juri Kim out, briefly out of Yamamoto’s watchful eye.
Then she could buy her way in, either by escaping inland via train or out to sea via ship.
It was possible for her to get Jinjuri out of the city safely!
She also thought of how to create an identity for her, how to set her up in a suitable occupation – like a governess, or a caretaker, which would suit the educated and young Jinjuri, who knew a foreign language, and sending her to a foreigner would make it easier for her to escape from the Japanese.
As for how to face Yamamoto afterward that was another question.
She was willing to give her life for that.
Ms. Su would probably be very sad.
But she felt that no matter if she died now for the sake of Jinjuri or in the future for something else, it was all the same, it was just a matter of time.
As long as she was helping others, there was no difference in importance.
Helping one Jinjuri should be just as important as helping more people.
She sat down on her bed.
The only thing that disturbed her was the possibility of leaving Mr. Su.
She obviously stayed for him, but now she decided to leave him.
That must be very hurtful to him.
He wouldn’t hate her for helping Juri Kim, he wasn’t such a selfish person.
But he loved her, he loved her, so if something bad would happen to her, it must be very painful for him.
But let her now think about not helping Jin Juli, turn a blind eye to her plight, continue to deal with Yamamoto as if nothing happened, continue to watch the Japanese persecute Jin Juli, force her to continue to get pregnant, to continue to give birth, to continue to continue to perpetuate the misfortune.
It was possible for her to chill out.
Just by telling herself that there were many hard things to do, just by pretending that she couldn’t see them.
But then – she would be a worse person than she was in her previous life.
In her last life, she resented everyone and eventually gave up on life, and she regretted it so much because she now felt like none of that was worth the jump. Her parents did suck, but that had nothing to do with her, she was capable of saving herself, she was obviously much better than them, so why shouldn’t she be happier than them!
When she got here, she looked back on her past life and was most disconcerted by this.
She clearly thought herself better than both of her parents, she was a better person than them, so why were they still alive and she was dead.
It wasn’t worth it, it was too much.
She deserved a better life than they had.
After coming here, it was like she had left her old, bad self behind.
She had become a better one, a better, better person than even the most successful life she could have imagined in her previous life!
–If she gave up on Julie Kim in this one, could she still be this better person.
She couldn’t be proud of herself any more than she was proud of herself.
She couldn’t back down, couldn’t choose to retreat to the next best thing.
There was a snap and the lights in the room suddenly came on.
It was Mr. Su.
He stood outside the door, pressed the light on, then gently closed the door again and walked towards her.
He looked at her tenderly and amorously, his gaze revealing a lot of guilt and worry.
He said softly, “Why don’t you turn on the light? Are you tired? Do you want to lie down for a short nap?”
He came to the bed and gently stroked her shoulder, “You’re too tired from going out today, lie down and rest before getting up for dinner.”
Zhu Yuyan came back to her senses and asked, “What time is it?”
Su Chunjun: “It’s after seven. I’ll get you pajamas.”
He went to the closet and took out the pajamas and put them on the bed.
“There’s not much work today, so I’ll lie down with you for a while as well.” He said.
Both of them were a bit sleepless.
But accidentally once both realized that when they were in bed together it was easier for the other one to fall asleep.
So now whenever they slept, both of them tried to sleep together.
Zhu Yuyan did not want to sleep, but both of them lacked sleep, she looked at Su Chunjun’s heavy dark circles under his eyes, and changed into his pajamas with good grace.
The two lay side by side on the bed, turned off the light, in the immersed darkness, the two people’s breathing intertwined, gradually frequency rhythm in unison.
She didn’t think she was asleep, but the two only woke up when the guard came knocking on the door.
It felt like time had passed quickly, and it was amazing to see that two hours had passed.
A little nap had been refreshing.
Even though it was already ten o’clock, the two went to the dining room to eat a little congee.
Then Su Chunjun went to the office to see if there were any phone calls and telegrams, and she sat in the restaurant to do some math.
Just to move her brain around a bit.
She was clearer in her mind.
How to create a riot this could wait for the right time.
The child was not important, her goal was only Jinjuri. She needed to calm down Jinjuri and tell her to save her strength and not to take the pregnancy to heart. If she can’t find the right time before she goes into labor, then change the plan and see if she’s the only one to be saved or if she can take the baby out with her.
If the time is right to steal her from Yamamoto while she’s pregnant, then see if it’s a miscarriage or wait for the baby to be born before arranging for it to be born.
The option of helping her abort under Yamamoto’s nose was the first to be ruled out.
Because there was no proven method of safe abortion.
Medical abortion was out of the question.
As for the abortion surgery, although the technology of scraping the uterus was currently available in Western medicine, because it required the doctor to maneuver blindly without vision, the surgical methods were quite rough, and because there was no way to determine where in the uterus the fetus had landed, it was a case of scraping all the way through the uterus, taking the flesh with it and the blood with it.
Now this is an environment that requires a skilled OB/GYN, an anesthesiologist, a sterile operating room, cardiac monitoring and surgical blood as a precaution.
It’s too difficult to think about it any way.
The ideal plan would be to rescue Julie Kim and send her to Hong Kong, or British India, or France to find a European doctor to perform an abortion in all three places.
The next level plan would be to save Julie Kim and still send her to Hong Kong, British India, and France, have her baby in those three places, and then think about what she’s going to do with her life next. However, all three places are not difficult for Julie Kim, she does not have language problems, and if she can contact her previous foster mother or someone who knows her, they can help her find suitable work in all three areas.
The hardest part of the plan was to get Julie Kim and the baby out together, or to get only Julie Kim and not the baby, or to get neither, and the plan failed.
Also, she has to think about how she’s going to deal with Yamamoto’s retaliation.
He couldn’t possibly not retaliate for losing KIM Juri.
She probably wouldn’t be able to get out of suspicion at that time.
She didn’t want to involve Mr. Su, it was better to keep one between the two, not both of them trapped in this matter.
Zhu Yuyan ventured a bold idea.
–If one were to steal Jin Juli and then hit Yamamoto hard at the same time, would it turn this matter into a more favorable one?
