Chapter 07
Seeing Zhao Shuming’s downward sweeping eyelashes, Jiang Yimiao subconsciously licked the sweet corners of her mouth.
She recalled the middle school life that wasn’t too vague in her memory, Zhao Shuming had stayed with her for the six years from her first year of junior high school to her senior year of high school, and it was true that he hadn’t fallen in love early.
As for the latter years of separation, seeing Zhao Shuming emphasize it so much, Jiang Yimiao didn’t think much more about it.
After all, this matter of never having fallen in love is actually common for some young people.
For example, Jiang Yimiao’s undergraduate dormitory had six girls, and even though some of them had secretly fallen in love before college, the number of singles in the whole dormitory remained zero in the last few years of college.
Jiang Yimiao bit into the ice cream scoop, leisurely “oh” sound.
Just when Zhao Shuming thought that she wouldn’t dwell on his relationship status, she suddenly put down her spoon again.
“But what if you fall in love in the future? I can’t just rely on you for the rest of my life, even if I’m your own sister, I wouldn’t be like this.”
Jiang Yimiao laughed, thinking she had given a reason that even Zhao Shuming couldn’t refute.
Zhao Shuming choked on her words, slightly opening his lips as he thought about what to say back to her.
Of course he would talk about it later, but the target could only be Jiang Yimiao.
The TV happened to be broadcasting the climax of the episode, and Jiang Yimiao subconsciously raised her gaze to lock onto the female and male leads.
In the afterglow, Zhao Shuming’s expression remained gentle, “Okay, but you don’t have to rush to find a new house, take your time.”
Jiang Yimiao was stunned for a moment and felt that what he said was not bad.
Zhao Shuming didn’t mind sharing a room with her, and she still had time to slowly find the most suitable place for her, so there was no rush.
She nodded her head like a chicken pecking at rice.
It wasn’t until the picture on the TV screen switched over that Zhao Shuming’s voice continued to ring out, “This actress, I remember that you were quite fond of her back in your first year of high school.”
Zhao Shuming was talking about the female second in the drama.
“Yeah, you actually remember!” Jiang Yimiao was a bit surprised.
She wasn’t really much of a stargazer, every time she watched a drama she would like one or two of the actors, and by the time she was chasing the next new drama, she would fall in love with the other actors, forgetting all about the previous wall.
But she loved the actress, the second female, because she especially liked the female-male sub cp when she was chasing that drama in her first year of high school.
As a result, the grand finale suddenly a big inexplicable knife slammed over, the main line and and happy ending, but the secondary line be with a completely unnecessary reason.
Loving the house, so much so that Jiang Yimiao’s feelings for both the female and male actors were a little deeper.
Even if that drama was ten years past from now.
Zhao Shuming smiled, “Of course I remember, that night at the grand finale you came crying to me, I thought you were bullied by someone.”
Then she cried and fell asleep on his bed.
So how could he not remember.
“But it was really tragic, do you know how badly my young mind was hit at that time?”
Jiang Yimiao said as she falsely wiped her vain tears.
Although the current her wasn’t so much as to shed tears over the drama of ten years ago, whenever she thought of the night of the grand finale, her heart would be as bitter as if it was filled with seawater.
As soon as she talked about this, Jiang Yimiao became interested, the bowl of ice cream in her hand was eaten by her, she put down the bowl of ice cream and then drew a wet towel to wipe the corners of her mouth as well as the palms of her hands.
She then sat up straight and unconsciously put her right hand on Zhao Shuming’s arm.
This was a small habit she used to have, every time before talking to Zhao Shuming, she used to put her hands on his arm, otherwise her words wouldn’t come out straight.
“You know, the male and female actors worked together again a while ago to have a new drama, which is also an official pairing.”
“It ended well this time, right?” Zhao Shuming asked in response to her topic.
Zhao Shuming’s eyes swept downward, and because she had just hugged the ice cream bowl, her fingertips were a little cold, so they rested gently on his arm.
Afraid that Jiang Yimiao would let go of his hand in hindsight, he motionlessly maintained a posture and sat beside her.
Just like this, he felt the touch and temperature of her hand.
“This time it’s a HAPPY ENDING, if it’s any more tragic I’ll send a razor blade to the screenwriter.”
The ice cream made her throat a little sweet, Jiang Yimiao took a sip of warm water and continued, “And that drama was pretty good, it was broadcast last year.”
“You can rewatch it if it’s good.” Even though she didn’t say it outright, Zhao Shuming still guessed what she had in mind, she now wanted to watch it again.
“I’ve already rewatched it three, four, five, six times before.” Jiang Yimiao lowered her head and broke her fingers to count, “But I have to catch up on the updates of the new drama tonight.”
“Then let’s watch it together tomorrow?”
“Yeah, I shouldn’t have to work overtime tomorrow.”
Good news, I shouldn’t have to work overtime today, bad news today is Monday – everyone’s most hated day.
Unlike usual when she couldn’t get up after ringing her alarm clock two or three times, Jiang Yimiao was woken up early this morning by the sound of rain outside.
This year’s weather was a bit strange; the climate in the southern city was always hot and humid, but she had rarely seen such a long rainy season in her memory.
Jiang Yimiao was woken up by the sound of rain at six o’clock, and there were still nearly two hours before her alarm at seven forty-five, so she went back to sleep.
The sound of the rain hitting the glass windows was really disturbing, so Jiang Yimiao slept in a daze for the past two hours, and it was only when her alarm went off that she sat up violently.
The rain outside was falling even harder.
She ran out of the living room from her room and lay down by the glass door of the balcony to look at the pouring rain outside, the sky was gray and dead.
“Finished finished.” Jiang Yimiao muttered, taking a comb and tying up her long hair in a fire.
“What’s wrong?” Zhao Shuming brought out breakfast from the kitchen, “Eat breakfast first.”
He had purposely asked Jiang Yimiao earlier about the time she woke up and got off work for work, so that it would be more convenient for him to schedule time to cook for her.
Jiang Yimiao walked back from the living room to the kitchen table.
“It’s raining too much, I thought it would stop in the next two hours, but I didn’t realize that it’s getting bigger and bigger, so I’m going to get wet again when I go to the office later.” She arched her eyebrows, a little annoyed.
Zhao Shuming’s house was indeed only one subway station away from the company, but there was still about five minutes of road to walk on the way to work for the commute.
I don’t know if it was because the heavy rainfall a while ago had affected the drainage system in the neighborhood, but there was a section of the road that was particularly prone to waterlogging, making it difficult to walk there every time.
And in the South Side the rain was basically impossible to keep out with an umbrella.
The gusty winds would beat over the rain diagonally, wetting one’s clothes through and through.
Jiang Yimiao hated rainy days, it always reminded her of wet pant legs and shoes, and days without sunshine.
Of course, if it was raining on the weekend, she didn’t think it mattered, after all, this way she possessed a reason to persuade herself to continue hugging her doll and sleeping.
“It’s fine, don’t worry, I’ll just drive you later.” Zhao Shuming poured the squeezed soy milk in front of her.
Jiang Yimiao was stunned, like she didn’t react to the fact that Zhao Shuming had a car and could drive.
“I have a domestic driver’s license, and I’ve been driving for the last two days, so you’re afraid that I’m not a good driver?”
He sat down in front of her, “Miao Miao, it always feels like you don’t really trust me right now.”
Zhao Shuming pushed up his glasses and propped his chin up to look at her.
“It’s not ……” Jiang Yimiao lowered her head and looked at the breakfast in front of her, subconsciously licking her lips.
She raised her eyebrows and looked at him again, Zhao Shuming wasn’t nearsighted when he was in high school, and these past few days were the first time she’d seen him wearing glasses.
His eyes were very regional, and he looked good with or without glasses.
“It’s just that I haven’t seen you drive a car before, so I didn’t react for a while.” Jiang Yimiao poked the xiaolongbao in front of her with her chopsticks.
“Alright, not teasing you.” Zhao Shuming pulled a smile at the corner of his mouth and picked up the dumplings and put them in her bowl.
“Dumplings, your favorite chives with fresh meat, and horseshoe with fresh meat.”
“This you even remembered.” Having not eaten anything for the entire night, Jiang Yimiao was starving and picked up a dumpling and stuffed the whole thing into her mouth.
Many people experienced getting tired of eating things they once loved, it could be caused by changes in the body’s hormones, or it could be due to too much stress causing the body’s senses to be overloaded.
But Jiang Yimiao’s tastes have never changed, and what she loved to eat as a child she still loves to eat now.
Her life has always been very peaceful, her health has always been quite good, and she has never experienced any great joys or sorrows since she was a child.
The saddest thing was when she filled in the wrong multiple-choice question on the answer card of the science synthesis in one of the exams in her sophomore year of high school.
So her tastes and her hobbies were as unchanged as her bland life.
“Of course I remember, I always have a good memory and won’t easily forget anything related to you.” Zhao Shuming said back.
“Right yea, you’ve always had a good memory, you always used to memorize books super fast.”
Jiang Yimiao drank a mouthful of soymilk, the soymilk had a very small amount of sugar added to it, even the fact that she loved to add sugar to her soymilk Zhao Shuming hadn’t forgotten.
“Eat, just drive you to the office later.” Zhao Shuming smiled but was somewhat helpless.
His gaze skimmed away to land outside the balcony, the rain was still falling, the vapor drilled in through the balcony door that only showed a crack, carrying a coolness that completely blew away the early morning drowsiness.
It wasn’t until I got to the office that the rain became a little lighter.
The concrete floor was mixed with dirt washed over from the green belt, and the surroundings were dirty.
Zhao Shuming drove the car all the way to the underground parking lot on the negative floor of Jiang Yimiao’s office building.
He glanced sideways at Jiang Yimiao, there was some traffic on the road during the morning rush hour, and she sat on the passenger side and took a nap the whole way.
“Miao Miao, to the company.” He came closer and lightly called out.
Jiang Yimiao didn’t sleep very deeply, but she seemed to have dreamt that she was eating roast duck.
She subconsciously took a deep breath, but the only scent around her was that of Zhao Shuming’s body, and it wasn’t until she opened her eyes that she realized that she had just been dreaming about the scent of roast duck.
“So soon.” Jiang Yimiao sat up and slowed down for a dozen seconds before her consciousness gradually came to her.
Zhao Shuming looked down at the time on his watch, “There’s still ten minutes left before it’s time for you to punch in.”
There was silence in the air for several seconds, “I’m going up then?”
He nodded and opened the car door for her.
Half of Jiang Yimiao’s body stepped out of the car, and suddenly remembering the dream she had just had, she sat her butt back in the passenger seat again and grabbed Zhao Shuming’s arm.
“I kind of want to eat roast duck, can we eat roast duck tonight, there’s an old roast brine store downstairs in the neighborhood, it’s super delicious!”
“Why do you suddenly want to eat roast duck?”
No matter how well Zhao Shuming knew her, he didn’t realize how her brain circuit changed from getting ready for work to what to eat tonight.
However, he continued obediently, “I’ll go buy it tonight if you want to eat it.”
Jiang Yimiao ate at the company cafeteria at noon, so he only had to cook breakfast and dinner for her on weekdays.
She touched the tip of her nose with some embarrassment, “I just suddenly want to eat.”
Jiang Yimiao redrilled out of the car and suddenly turned back, only to see that Zhao Shuming’s gaze had been falling on her.
“What else ……,” Zhao Shuming was interrupted by Jiang Yimiao before she could finish her sentence.
“You’re so nice!”
Jiang Yimiao held onto the side of the car door and closed it after she finished speaking.
But she didn’t expect Zhao Shuming to follow her out of the car, Jiang Yimiao blinked at Zhao Shuming, “Why did you get out as well?”
She paused, guessing that Zhao Shuming probably didn’t feel comfortable with her and wanted to send her all the way up, “I can just go up by myself, it’s not like I’m sending kindergarteners to class. You hurry home, be careful on the road.”
Jiang Yimiao then waved her hand in his direction as she walked in the direction of the elevator.
“Good.” Zhao Shuming didn’t continue to follow, leaning against the car, his dark eyes reflecting her back until her figure completely disappeared from his line of sight before he would withdraw his own.
Zhao Shuming sat back in the car and exhaled and leaned back, how she always catches him off guard making him tell himself over and over again that he likes her a lot.
Jiang Yimiao walked onto the elevator all dry and when she reached the first floor, several more people flooded in.
She subconsciously glanced out, the ground on the first floor of the office building was covered in wet water stains, the water stains even dragged from the doorway to the front desk.
There were several Beware of Slippery Ground signs on the first floor alone, and even one in front of the elevator.
The umbrellas in the hands of those people also kept dripping water, one drop or two drops gathered into a line on the ground, and then dragged to the door of the elevator.
A sticky, damp feeling enveloped the entire city.
Jiang Yimiao looked at the umbrellas with water dripping from their hands, she silently hugged the umbrellas in her hands that were not dripping with water, and then hid in the corner of the elevator.
“Wait!” Outside, a girl with an umbrella in one hand and a freshly bought coffee in the other got into the elevator, and someone helped her press the button to open the door until she came up.
She saw Jiang Yimiao at a glance, the elevator wasn’t really crowded, the girl moved in and patted Jiang Yimiao’s shoulder.
Jiang Yimiao’s eyes moved away from her cell phone screen as she lifted her head, “Ah Yan, good morning.”
Qiu Xiaoyan was her colleague in the same office, and was also a freshman who entered the company in the same batch as her, plus there were only three or four girls in their group, so the two of them were relatively familiar with each other.
Qiu Xiaoyan flashed her eyes and sucked in a mouthful of coffee, saying back, “Good morning.”
Saying that, she poked Jiang Yimiao’s arm, “Miao ah, is the one who just sent you to the company your boyfriend?”
