Chapter 234: What Does He Think I Am?
Lin Dongxue was utterly perplexed, wondering what act was playing out now.
Chen Shi said, “From now on, you’ll live here. Try to get off work early every day. If it’s later than six, I’ll come to pick you up.”
“But I’ve already paid a deposit…”
“It’s on me.”
“Aren’t you afraid of the hassle?”
“It doesn’t matter, I’ve thought it over.”
He had realized that leaving Lin Dongxue to live alone worried him more. Now that Zhou Xiao really had returned, those three photos were most likely sent by him. Thus, ensuring Lin Dongxue’s safety was paramount, and there was nowhere safer than right under his watch.
However, Lin Dongxue was still upset and said, “No need, I was planning to move out anyway.”
She pulled her suitcase, attempting to leave, but Chen Shi placed his hand against the wall, blocking her path, and seriously offered, “I’m renting this bedroom to you, three hundred a month.”
Lin Dongxue scoffed, “I’m not interested!”
Lin Dongxue left anyway, fuming as she walked. Thinking about how Chen Shi had given her a cold look yesterday, rushing her to leave, and now suddenly not letting her go, what did he think she was!
As she walked, she felt a twinge of sadness but suppressed the tears. She wasn’t going to cry over him!
Arriving at her new home and after a bout of cleaning that lasted until eight, she ended up quite dirty. She boiled some water to take a shower, but when she tested the water, it felt like being pricked by a needle, and it was the same with another try.
Lin Dongxue immediately went to find the landlord, who was playing mahjong with a few friends in a smoke-filled, noisy room. She knocked and said, “My water heater is leaking electricity!”
The landlord, squinting through the smoke, nonchalantly replied, “Beauty, I’ll have someone look at it tomorrow. It’s too late for an electrician now. Just make do tonight… self-draw!”
Frustrated, Lin Dongxue returned to her place and found Chen Shi standing at the door with a bag in his hand.
Lin Dongxue asked, surprised, “What are you doing here?”
Chen Shi lifted the bag, “You didn’t bring your toiletries. I brought them for you, along with some cosmetics.”
Lin Dongxue couldn’t help but laugh, “That’s skincare, I don’t use cosmetics.”
“Right, right, you’re naturally beautiful. You don’t need makeup to outshine those Internet celebrities.”
Lin Dongxue, struggling to keep a straight face, said, “Come in then, don’t just stand there.”
Chen Shi looked around her new place and commented, “One thousand a month, not too expensive… Why the long face?”
“The water heater is leaking electricity, the landlord is playing mahjong, says he’ll find an electrician tomorrow.”
“I’ll take a look.”
“Electrical stuff is better left alone, what if…”
“It’s okay, I have tools in my car.”
Chen Shi fetched his tools, turned off the power, and started inspecting the water heater. Pointing at a component, he said, “This heater is just old wine in a new bottle. The exterior is new, but the insides are degraded. You’d better unplug it after using it.”
“Renting is always a hassle. When can I ever use my own home?” Lin Dongxue felt melancholic.
“Want me to lend you some money for a down payment?”
“No thanks, then I’d have to smile at you every day.”
“I wouldn’t lend to anyone else who smiles at me!”
Lin Dongxue laughed, then remembered she was still mad at him and tried to restrain herself.
While Chen Shi was fixing the water heater, he suddenly trembled all over, clenching his teeth, which scared Lin Dongxue. She grabbed his shirt, but Chen Shi laughed, “Just kidding, testing your response.”
Annoyed, Lin Dongxue hit him, but he caught her wrist.
The bathroom was cramped, with the toilet taking up a third of the space. Pulled by her wrist, Lin Dongxue nearly fell into Chen Shi’s arms, her cheeks flushing.
Chen Shi said, “I drove you away yesterday not because of you, but because of me. Can you stop being mad at me?”
“What right do I have to be mad at you? You and I… are nothing, right?” Lin Dongxue’s cheeks reddened even more, resembling a ripe apple.
“I formally apologize anyway. If you can’t stand living there anymore, you’re always welcome to move in with me.”
“To move in with you?”
“I’ll charge you rent next time, so you
