When Lü Qi and Su Chan were brought back from the scene, they didn’t resist at all. They acted as if they were simply accepting an invitation.

At 4 PM, Lü Qi sat in the interrogation room, coldly smirking and smoking a cigar. His demeanor screamed that he believed no one could touch him. He even made exaggerated faces at the one-way mirror, knowing there were probably several policemen behind it who wanted to kill him.

The interrogation hadn’t started yet. Partly because Lü Qi’s lawyer hadn’t arrived, and partly because Peng Sijue was still investigating the scene. Both Chen Shi and Lin Qiupu were hoping for some key evidence to emerge, though the chances were slim.

“Let’s interrogate someone else first,” Lin Qiupu suggested.

“Should we start with Su Chan?” Lin Dongxue asked.

“No, let’s start with the other workers we brought in from the scene,” Lin Qiupu replied.

They brought in a supervisor responsible for the rocket launch. Lin Qiupu began, “Name and occupation.”

“Du XX, I’m an engineer at Chengxing Company…” the man said, looking down.

“Do you know this man?” Lin Qiupu showed him a photo of Dong Xiao. The engineer nodded and said, “This is Mr. Dong from Zhuoyuan Company. He was the funder of the Torch Project.”

“He was also the cargo for the Torch Project, wasn’t he?” Lin Qiupu sneered.

“No, no, nothing like that! I haven’t seen him recently!” the engineer denied repeatedly, looking extremely flustered.

“So what have you been doing lately?” Lin Qiupu pressed.

“Mr. Lü restarted the project and had us complete the unfinished rocket, which we launched today. Overall, it was a success,” the engineer said, a hint of pride in his voice.

“What was on the rocket?” Lin Qiupu asked.

“Of course… a satellite,” the engineer replied.

“Don’t play word games with us. Anything sent into orbit by humans is called a satellite, whether it’s a communications satellite or something else,” Lin Qiupu said.

Lin Dongxue added, “Actually, we’ve already visited your workshop. None of the documents mentioned a satellite. What was in the rocket?”

The engineer shook his head. “I don’t know!”

“You launched it and you don’t know?” Lin Qiupu challenged.

“I really don’t know!!!” The look of lying was evident and blatant. This wasn’t just lying—it was being shameless, like a dead pig unafraid of boiling water.

Everyone knew Lü Qi had paid them well. Their lips wouldn’t be pried open easily.

Lin Qiupu had no choice but to release the man and move on to interrogating Su Chan.

After some discussion, they decided Lin Dongxue should lead the interrogation. Su Chan was too beautiful, and both Chen Shi and Lin Qiupu found it hard to stay calm and objective in her presence.

Before entering the interrogation room, Chen Shi handed Lin Dongxue a piece of paper and said, “This might help.”

She looked at it—it was a copy of a contract for a mobile phone number. She was puzzled. Chen Shi explained, “Before Dong Xiao left his office, he received a call from a number. The call didn’t go through, and it just rang a few times, so it didn’t show up in the call records. I checked, and it turns out this mysterious number belongs to Su Chan.”

“What? Su Chan was the one who tipped off Dong Xiao about the affair?” Lin Qiupu was incredulous. “Why didn’t you say this earlier?”

“I just got the information. Once we suspected Su Chan might be a corporate spy, I thought in this direction,” Chen Shi explained.

“Could she be trying to instigate a conflict between Dong Xiao and Lü Qi?” Lin Dongxue wondered.

“Both men are ruthless. They don’t need instigation. But she might indeed be fanning the flames,” Lin Qiupu speculated.

The interrogation began. Up close, Lin Dongxue found Su Chan’s beauty striking. Her perfect features and the subtle, almost mischievous smile made her seem both dignified and dangerously alluring.

“Ms. Su, this isn’t our first meeting. I know quite a bit about you. You were Dong Xiao’s mistress. On the day of the Fengyi Pavilion fire, we saw footage from Dong Xiao’s computer showing you and Lü Qi having an affair. Dong Xiao was there to catch you. Can you tell us what happened that day?”

“Would you believe me if I told you?” Su Chan countered.

“That depends on whether your story is verifiable.”

“I admit I had an affair with Lü Qi. I don’t know exactly when it started. We were both drawn to each other after a few flirtatious exchanges. It wasn’t about soul-searching or deceit. We were just physically attracted to each other. He’s handsome, and even more so without clothes,” Su Chan said, licking her lips provocatively.

Lin Dongxue felt awkward. She cleared her throat and said, “Let’s stay on topic. Tell me what happened on January 20th at Fengyi Pavilion.”

Su Chan shrugged. “I wasn’t feeling well, so I went home to rest. Lü Qi came over, we had some fun, and then we heard a car outside. Dong Xiao had arrived. Lü Qi quickly put on his pants and left. There was a lot of commotion outside. I don’t know what happened next. Later, the fire started, and Lü Qi came to get me.”

“And Dong Xiao?”

“How should I know!”

“Are you saying you didn’t see him that day?”

“Yes, he never came into my room.”

It was clear Su Chan wasn’t going to tell the truth. Chen Shi wondered why she was protecting Lü Qi. It didn’t seem like she truly loved him. Maybe Lü Qi was still useful to her.

It was time to reveal her true identity.

Chen Shi signaled to Lin Dongxue, who understood and opened her laptop to show Su Chan the surveillance footage from that night.

Su Chan watched with a calm smile. When Lin Dongxue asked, “Is this you in the footage?”

“I never wear clothes like that. They don’t show off my figure.”

“This car was a gift from Dong Xiao. We traced the person in the footage to your and Lü Qi’s hideout. Are you saying it’s not you?”

“Maybe it is. Think what you like,” she replied nonchalantly.

“Ms. Su, although your background appears clean, we have enough evidence to suspect you are a corporate spy who infiltrated Zhuoyuan Company. On the night of January 21st, you entered Dong Xiao’s office, took a USB drive, and escaped via the roof cable. You also tipped off Dong Xiao about the affair to create conflict between him and Lü Qi for your own ends. Is that correct?”

“Officer, your story is very imaginative. Truly, it’s quite creative,” Su Chan said, her performance flawless, her beautiful face showing no sign of panic.
