Chapter 670: Thunderous Fury

Chen Shi and Lin Dongxue visited Chengxing Company again for further investigation. The manager had been harassed by their frequent visits and was now visibly frustrated. The police had developed a new theory that Duan Xiao’s body, or parts of it, might still be on the ground, giving them a sliver of hope.

The manager felt it was both laughable and pitiable. He wanted to tell the police outright that their hypothesis was wrong because he had personally overseen the project—Duan Xiao’s entire body had been sent into space. Of course, he couldn’t say this. So, he kept deflecting and evading their questions.

During their conversation, a deafening gunshot suddenly rang out from outside. Chen Shi and Lin Dongxue exchanged startled looks. The gunfire continued, three more shots in rapid succession. Peering through the slightly open office door, they saw an employee get shot down, a burst of blood spraying from his chest as he crashed into a table.

Lin Dongxue immediately drew her gun, kicked open the door, and shouted, “Police! Drop your weapon!”

The gunman, none other than Lu Qi, had already shot three Chengxing employees. Hearing Lin Dongxue, instead of surrendering, he turned and fired two shots at her.

Lin Dongxue recoiled in fear, one of the bullets piercing the wooden door and leaving a hole in the side wall.

“He seems crazy…” Lin Dongxue muttered, wide-eyed.

“Run!” Chen Shi urged.

Seeing the situation worsen, the manager had already slipped away through a side door. Chen Shi and Lin Dongxue followed him, entering the adjacent secretary’s office. Both offices were interconnected and had exits to the corridor.

Lu Qi kicked open the manager’s office door, firing two shots at the computer on the desk, smashing it to pieces. “Police! You think you’re tough? Now you’re hiding like cowards,” he bellowed.

Chen Shi had already dialed Lin Qiupu’s number, holding up the phone so Lin Qiupu could hear the chaos directly, rather than through Chen Shi’s frantic descriptions.

What puzzled Chen Shi was why Lu Qi had suddenly come here on a shooting spree. The only weak point Lu Qi had was Su Zhan. Had something happened between them?

“Protect yourselves, don’t engage. We’re on our way!” Lin Qiupu shouted over the phone, his voice filled with urgency as he realized Lin Dongxue was in grave danger.

Lu Qi cleverly positioned himself at the main door of the manager’s office, keeping an eye on the corridor. This way, he could see and shoot Chen Shi and Lin Dongxue the moment they tried to escape.

Time dragged on, the standoff continued with a wall separating them. Chen Shi nudged the manager with his elbow and whispered, “Talk to him, stall for time. The police will be here soon.”

“Talk about what?” the manager replied, pale-faced.

“Anything. Improvise.”

The manager took a few deep breaths to calm himself, then stammered, “Mr. Lu, we’ve always had a good cooperation. Why are you doing this? Can you explain it to me?”

“You lied to me!” Lu Qi roared in rage. “Why wasn’t the body fully launched? I gave you so much money.”

The manager glanced at Chen Shi and Lin Dongxue, thinking Lu must have gone mad to blurt out such a thing, especially in front of the police.

Since Lu had already exposed the truth, the manager saw no reason to hold back. “Why would we lie to you? The entire body was sent up, not a single hair was left. Otherwise, the police would have found it already.”

“No! I saw a video. You definitely lied to me!” Lu Qi yelled, kicking something over.

The smell of blood from the injured employees began to permeate the air, making the atmosphere even more eerie and terrifying.

The manager had nothing more to say. Chen Shi shouted, “Lu Qi, are you insane? Coming here and killing people openly? Even if you get away with Duan Xiao’s case, you won’t escape today’s crime.”

“Damn you!” Lu Qi bellowed. “I don’t care about anything anymore. I’ll kill everyone who deceived me and all you cops!”

Even without seeing him, Chen Shi could imagine the twisted look on his face as he spat those words.

Lin Dongxue was shaking with fear, gripping Chen Shi’s hand tightly. Chen Shi’s strong hand provided her some comfort. He whispered, “Don’t be afraid, I’ll protect you. Give me the gun.”

“No! No!” Lin Dongxue shook her head, partly because police guns couldn’t be handed over and partly because she was afraid for Chen Shi’s safety.

“Haven’t you always wanted to know about my past?” Chen Shi gathered his courage, ready to reveal everything.

Lin Dongxue looked at him in surprise, but just then, there was a commotion outside. They thought reinforcements had arrived. Someone shouted, “Damn, he really has a gun!” and “Call the police!”

Turned out it was just two security guards.

Lu Qi fired a shot at the door but only heard the click of an empty chamber. Seeing his chance, Chen Shi grabbed Lin Dongxue’s gun and rushed into the corridor, aiming at Lu Qi’s wrist.

Lu Qi, frantically trying to reload, saw Chen Shi charging and threw his gun at him. The corridor was narrow, and the gun flew with force. Chen Shi dodged, and Lu Qi lunged forward, trying to grab the police gun.

They were too close for Chen Shi to shoot. Even if he fired, it might not stop Lu Qi. He tossed the gun back to Lin Dongxue, shouting, “Catch!”

Lu Qi let out a beastly roar and punched Chen Shi. Though Chen Shi managed to block it with his arms, he was still sent sliding back two meters from the impact. The force was terrifying.

Lu Qi kicked open the secretary’s office door and rushed towards Lin Dongxue. Lin Dongxue retreated, firing three shots, hitting his shoulder and leg. Despite being hit, Lu Qi barely flinched, becoming even more ferocious. He grabbed a sofa with one hand and hurled it at Lin Dongxue.

Terrified, Lin Dongxue backed away. The sofa wedged in the doorway. The manager’s screams filled the room. “Let me go… let me go… Ahhhh!”

The screams ended in a heart-wrenching cry. When Chen Shi entered, he witnessed a horrifying scene.

Lu Qi, towering and muscular, had grabbed the manager by the legs and was pulling him apart. With a sickening rip, he tore one leg and a chunk of flesh from the manager’s torso. Blood sprayed everywhere.

Lu Qi turned his head, a twisted smile on his face, looking like a demon reveling in the slaughter.

Chen Shi felt a deep sense of terror. He couldn’t defeat this opponent. He turned to run, but Lu Qi chased him with terrifying speed. At the same time, Lin Dongxue, emerging from the manager’s office, fired several more shots into Lu Qi’s back until her gun was empty.

Hit again, Lu Qi roared with fury, turning his bloodshot eyes on Lin Dongxue and charging towards her…
