Chapter 791: The Social Immune Cell
The case was closed. Li Qiang had been detained, awaiting trial in the detention center once the entire legal process was complete.
As for He Jingjing, she received a warning and a fine for damaging the currency. After paying the fine, she left first. Before leaving, she stood in front of the public security bureau for a long time, her expression filled with sorrow, resentment, regret, and unwillingness.
Song Lang invited all the police officers involved in the case to relax and have a late-night snack. He treated everyone to barbecue and beer. This gathering had an additional guest, Lin Qiupu. The officers who hadn’t had a chance to talk to him before asked him how he felt in the Second Team. Lin Qiupu shyly replied, “Captain is indeed as amazing as rumored, with a very clear train of thought. I’ve learned a lot from him in solving this case.”
“Aren’t we good enough?” someone joked.
“Haha, we’ve all been overshadowed by the captain’s halo.”
“Come on, let’s drink!”
Everyone chatted lively. The most relaxed and enjoyable moment in the police station was when a case concluded.
Song Lang drank a large glass of chilled draft beer alone, his expression not particularly uplifted. He was still regretting the loose end left by this case—they didn’t have enough evidence to arrest He Jingjing as an accomplice.
“Captain, this case went very smoothly,” Lin Qiupu approached and struck up a conversation.
“This case is a stain on my career. That woman used her father and smoothly obtained the inheritance. For the rest of her life, whenever she remembers escaping from the police, she will probably feel extremely fortunate!” Song Lang chuckled bitterly, taking a big sip of beer.
“There’s something I’m not sure whether I should say… Actually, I think that girl is quite pitiful.”
“What did you say?!?” Song Lang suddenly raised his voice. Lin Qiupu, who had never seen Song Lang angry before, was stunned. The others stopped and all turned to look in their direction.
“What did you say? Say it again!” Song Lang sternly demanded.
Lin Qiupu, this straightforward young man, actually took this as a command. Trembling, he repeated, “…Actually, I think that girl is quite pitiful.”
Song Lang reached out with a hand, and Lin Qiupu thought he was about to get hit. Instead, Song Lang’s large palm landed on his shoulder, a bit painful but clearly a gesture of reassurance.
“Xiao Lin, do you know why people get cancer?”
“Huh?” Lin Qiupu looked bewildered. “Because they smoke too much?”
“Cancer cells have a special ability—they can deceive the immune system into thinking they are ordinary harmless cells. So once they spread, it becomes particularly bad. Police are like the immune system of society. The police need to be most wary not of those ruthless criminals, but of those who are pitiful, helpless, and seemingly justified in their actions. These seemingly harmless people are like cancer cells that deceive others. Never feel pity for them. If you pity them, who will pity those who have been killed and countless innocent and good citizens? There is never any legitimate reason for crime. If you continue to say such thoughtless things, I will kick you out of the Second Team!”
Lin Qiupu felt ashamed and lowered his head under Song Lang’s speech. Song Lang patted him on the back and handed him a glass of wine. Seeing the captain’s anger dissipate, the others joined in, picking up their glasses and saying, “New guy, don’t be sad. Captain is educating you for your own good. Come, let’s have a drink!”
But Lin Qiupu didn’t touch his glass. Instead, he took out his notebook and wrote down what Song Lang had said.
To others, this move seemed somewhat ridiculous, but Song Lang saw the earnestness in the young man and thought to himself, maybe he would become a good policeman in the future!
The next day, Lin Qiupu returned from patrol in the morning to find a note on his computer asking him to go to the Third Team.
The Third Team, responsible for cracking down on organized crime, was on another floor. Arriving there, surrounded by unfamiliar faces, Lin Qiupu was inevitably nervous. He didn’t know why he had been summoned here and suddenly a voice called out, “You’re Xiao Lin under Captain Song, right?”
Turning around, he saw a confident short-haired female police officer introducing herself as Officer Han Loxi from the Third Team.
Han Loxi shook hands with Lin Qiupu, who blushed slightly. He noticed that Han Loxi’s good physique was clearly a result of long-term exercise, her hands strong and calloused.
Lin Qiupu followed this sister-like officer to an office. Han Loxi turned on the computer and said, “On September 5th, you went to Taiyang Pawnshop, where a group of people were committing violence. You intervened, and they tried to ram you with a car. Is that right?”
“Did Captain tell you… tell you about it?” Lin Qiupu asked.
“If not him, then who else? Please tell me the whole incident carefully.”
Lin Qi
