Chapter 905: Clever Strategy
Seeing two people suddenly appear behind her, tangled together, the rich woman jumped in fright as if electrocuted. Zhou Xiao gritted his teeth, shoved Tao Yueyue aside, and rushed to grab the rich woman’s head, slamming it against the wall. She immediately fainted.
Tao Yueyue fell to the ground, clutching an empty syringe in her hand. She stared at Zhou Xiao in disbelief. Given the amount of alcohol injected into his bloodstream, he should have reacted immediately. How could he act as if nothing happened?
“Wondering why it didn’t work?” Zhou Xiao said. “I noticed the syringe while you were sleeping today. I replaced the alcohol with distilled water, curious who you were targeting…” He suddenly roared, “You were planning to use it on me?!”
Tao Yueyue turned and ran toward the stairs, hearing Zhou Xiao shout behind her, “Run, run! I’ll catch you soon enough, hahaha!”
This is bad!!!
Tao Yueyue thought to herself. Zhou Xiao’s priority was the rich woman. She turned back and saw Zhou Xiao squatting next to the woman, preparing to finish her off. Tao Yueyue grabbed a bottle from the wine rack, took a deep breath, and hurled it at Zhou Xiao’s head.
Zhou Xiao sidestepped, and the bottle shattered against the wall, spraying wine all over the unconscious woman.
Zhou Xiao glared fiercely at Tao Yueyue, growling, “I’ve treated you so well, and you betray me, you betray me!”
“I…I’m arresting you!” Tao Yueyue stammered.
“Try it!” Zhou Xiao sneered.
After the provocation, Tao Yueyue fled upstairs again, this time with Zhou Xiao in hot pursuit, enraged and ready to kill her.
She remembered seeing something in one of the rooms. She rushed in, locked the door, and grabbed a baseball bat from the wall. She swung it a few times, but as she heard Zhou Xiao’s footsteps getting closer, her resolve wavered—
No, I can’t beat him!
All the doors on the second floor were open except this one. Zhou Xiao quickly found her hiding spot and kicked the door hard, shaking the entire frame and causing dust to fall from the ceiling.
Tao Yueyue trembled in fear. She looked around, dragging a standing vacuum cleaner behind the curtain, realizing how foolish that was. The moonlight cast the vacuum’s outline on the curtain, making it impossible for Zhou Xiao to mistake it for her.
The door’s relentless pounding continued, and the fragile wooden door wouldn’t last much longer.
She gritted her teeth and switched the vacuum’s intake and exhaust connections, plugged it in, and turned it on, causing a strong gust of wind to blow from the vacuum.
She opened the closet, found a down jacket, and bit into it to rip it open. The jacket was tough, and Tao Yueyue was on the verge of tears, fearing Zhou Xiao would break in at any moment. Luckily, she managed to tear it open, placing it by the door, and aimed the vacuum at the exposed down feathers.
She wasn’t sure if this little trick would work, but she had to gamble.
With a crash, the door was kicked open, and Zhou Xiao appeared, his face twisted with rage. Tao Yueyue turned the vacuum to full power, and feathers flew like snow, covering Zhou Xiao’s face.
Instinctively, Zhou Xiao shielded his face with his hands, giving Tao Yueyue a chance to swing the baseball bat at his head.
“Ah!!!”
Zhou Xiao screamed, trying to grab Tao Yueyue amidst the feathers. He caught her sleeve and yanked hard, tearing it apart.
He rushed in, kicked over the vacuum cleaner, and stood covered in feathers, blood trickling down his forehead and over his nose, making him look even more menacing.
Feathers filled the room. Zhou Xiao saw the open window but didn’t fall for it this time. Tao Yueyue had used this trick before. Turning, he saw her crouching under a cabinet by the door, clutching the bloody baseball bat, trembling.
“I’m going to kill you!” Zhou Xiao advanced slowly.
Tao Yueyue threw a handful of crushed plaster at his face, then dashed for the door. As she stepped out, Zhou Xiao grabbed her collar from behind, yanking her back to the floor.
Tao Yueyue stood up, no longer afraid. Fear wouldn’t save her.
It was like the first time she met Zhou Xiao on that nightmare night. Zhou Xiao pointed a knife at her and her mother, taunting, “Pick one to die.”
Though she didn’t like her mother, she mustered the courage to point to herself and said, “Me!”
Panting heavily, Tao Yueyue gripped the baseball bat, her eyes showing the same determination as back then. Zhou Xiao sneered, “You’re really not afraid of death. You had a chance to escape, but you stayed to fight me. Are you trying to prove yourself to Song Lang?”
“No! Because you’re evil! I’m bringing you to justice!” Tao Yueyue gritted her teeth, ready to fight to the death.
“I’m above judgment!”
A sudden scream came from downstairs, and Zhou Xiao tensed, rushing out. Tao Yueyue couldn’t believe it. Why would he abandon killing her? Did he sense a greater threat?
She peeked out the window. It couldn’t be the police; they wouldn’t arrive so silently.
Unsure of who had come, she climbed out the window, hanging onto the ledge and using the curtain for cover.
This was exhausting. Tao Yueyue’s arms grew sore, but she held on. A man in a vest walked in, his face sinister like a movie villain, with deep wrinkles etched like knife cuts. He wore black leather gloves, holding a silenced pistol in his left hand and a knife in his right, dripping blood.
He scanned the room, then vanished silently into the hallway’s shadows.
When she was sure there was no threat, Tao Yueyue climbed back in, grabbed the baseball bat, and crept out, constantly checking her surroundings.
She remembered a phone on the first floor. Maybe she could call for help. Approaching the stairs, she saw the rich woman lying in a pool of blood. Another vest-clad man stood by the front door, holding a silenced pistol, silent.
Three faint gunshots came from upstairs, making Tao Yueyue pale. Why were there killers here?
Had Zhou Xiao already been taken out?
