Chen Shi paced outside the interrogation room, having assigned the task to two of their best interrogators. As expected, they couldn’t get anything out of Mr. Qin, who remained tight-lipped. His silence was predictable; saying too much could cost him his life.

“Be cooperative!” The interrogator’s angry shout echoed from inside. Mr. Qin’s uncooperative attitude was pushing the officers to their limits.

“Sigh, I should have known it wouldn’t be this easy,” Chen Shi sighed.

“Don’t worry, we’re going through his accounts and searching his home. We’ll find something,” Lin Dongxue reassured him.

Chen Shi glanced at Tao Yueyue, who was playing with a yo-yo in the hallway. Because it was hot, she had tied her military uniform jacket around her waist, revealing a black short-sleeved T-shirt. “I’ll take this little girl back,” he said.

“I don’t want to go back. I finally have an excuse to get out. Let me stay a bit longer and leave after dinner,” Tao Yueyue resisted.

Lin Dongxue, in a motherly tone, said, “Let Yueyue stay for a while. Going back means standing in the sun all day.”

“Yeah, it’s the same routine every day. So boring. Why couldn’t our instructor be the one who died? We’re so jealous of Class Three. They haven’t had training for two days,” Tao Yueyue pouted.

“How can you say that?” Chen Shi relented. “Fine, but go to my office and play on the computer. You can’t stay here where the suspect might see you.”

“What if he does? Will he seek revenge on me?” Tao Yueyue thought for a moment. “Right, if the killer is dead, would he be more willing to talk?”

“Hmm? What do you mean?”

“If the person is dead, there’s no need to hide anything anymore. You could make a fake corpse.”

“Wishful thinking. Do you really think…” Chen Shi stopped mid-sentence, considering the possibility. The escaped suspect was short and wore a mask. “Wait, this might actually work!”

“Haha, did I just contribute? Can you give me two days off?”

“Don’t even think about it. But I’ll take you out for a treat on National Day.”

Tao Yueyue pouted, and Chen Shi said, “Let’s go prepare some things!”

An hour later, Mr. Qin, who had refused to talk, was brought out of the interrogation room. Four officers escorted him. He looked up and said, “Where are you taking me? Speak up! If you use any tricks, I’ll sue you!”

“To identify a body,” an officer replied.

“I’m not going! I’m not going!” Mr. Qin tried to resist, but two officers grabbed his arms, and he kicked helplessly in the air.

“We’re not asking for your opinion. Move!” The officers set him down.

In the dimly lit autopsy room, two “bodies” lay on tables, one large and one small, with a stark contrast in size. Mr. Qin’s heart pounded, and he swallowed nervously.

One officer, wearing gloves, removed the mask from the giant’s face. “Who is he?”

Mr. Qin cautiously replied, “If I say, it means I know him, right?”

“We already know your identity. Even if you say nothing, we can still convict you. You might as well provide some information to get a lighter sentence.”

Another officer added, “Say whatever you want. Our brave officers already killed him. It’s only a matter of time before we identify him.”

“Fine, your loss if you waste this chance.” The officer moved to take Mr. Qin away.

“Zheng Yu! His name is Zheng Yu! Nicknamed ‘Bulldozer Giant.'”

“And the other one?” The officer pointed to the smaller “body” in black, with bullet wounds and blood-stained clothes.

Without any suspicion, Mr. Qin said dejectedly, “Nguyen Hui, nicknamed ‘Sparrow in Hand,’ from Vietnam. They’re a couple. Zheng Yu bought Nguyen Hui as a wife, but she had a criminal record in Vietnam. Under her ‘guidance,’ Zheng Yu started realizing his potential, and they became a pair of criminal masterminds.”

“What jobs did they take on?”

“I can’t say that. Anyway, I can only…”

Mr. Qin’s eyes widened as “Nguyen Hui” slowly sat up, moaning from under the mask. He screamed, “A ghost! A ghost!”

Nearly fainting, Mr. Qin was taken to a holding cell, where he immediately asked for a clean pair of underwear.

Chen Shi rushed to the autopsy room. Tao Yueyue removed her mask, giggling. “You crazy? Who told you to sit up?” Chen Shi scolded.

“I saw he was spilling, so I scared him. He’s a bad guy anyway,” Tao Yueyue said, shaking her head.

“Never do that again, ever!” Chen Shi sternly said.

“You mean I can help with another case? Thanks, Captain Chen.” Tao Yueyue saluted playfully.

“You’ll be the death of me!”

Tao Yueyue stuck out her tongue and jumped off the table. “I’m going to ask Sister Lin to take some photos of me in this cool killer outfit.”

Chen Shi was speechless.

Thanks to Tao Yueyue’s quirky idea, they had obtained crucial information about the killers. Using the household registry, they found the couple’s address. The police skipped lunch and drove to a neighborhood, where they got the property manager to take them to Nguyen Hui’s apartment.

As usual, they used the classic “checking the water meter” ruse. The manager reluctantly complied. When the police retreated, he knocked on the neighbor’s door. “Hi, have you seen a dog about this big, a Tibetan Mastiff mixed with a Poodle, a dirty yellow color?”

The neighbor said no, and the manager knocked on another door. “Hi, have you seen a dog…”

At that moment, the middle door opened, and a short woman in a white qipao stepped out. She froze upon seeing the police in the hallway.

Her expression sharpened. She grabbed the manager, pressing a fruit knife to his neck. Being so short, she had to stand on her toes. “Don’t come closer! I have a hostage!”

The neighbors were stunned, and the police aimed their guns at her. She retreated into the apartment, dragging the manager. Several guns remained trained on her.

Lin Dongxue tried to calm her. “Nguyen Hui, do you want to see your husband one last time?”

Nguyen Hui’s face twisted with rage. “You killed him!!”

Chen Shi said, “We’re police officers. In that situation, we had to shoot. Put the knife down. Don’t do anything foolish.”

“We just wanted to make some money. Why are you pushing me like this!” Nguyen Hui shoved the manager away and turned the knife towards her heart.

With a bang, Nguyen Hui’s body shook, and the knife fell. She clutched her shoulder.

The police quickly subdued her. Chen Shi turned to see Lin Dongxue’s smoking gun. She was panting, covered in sweat. “I was so scared I’d miss,” she said.

“Great job! Great job!” Chen Shi praised her.
