The performance hit a snag when something unexpected happened. Daoist Liao Chunhuang was stunned for a full half minute before stammering, “Audacious Demon Lord, do as I command!”

The floating sock replied, “Sorry, ”

Old Master Lu was delighted. “Oh, isn’t this the Daoist from yesterday?”

“Indeed, it’s the Grand Celestial Lord Zheng Lei!”

“Greetings, Daoist!” The old Daoist bowed. “Infinite Celestial Pure Huang Immortal!”

The two frauds flattered each other, but Liao Chunhuang’s hands shook with rage. It wasn’t fear but anger; the worst thing was another con artist ruining his show.

The old Daoist calculated on his fingers, then exclaimed, “Infinite Celestial Pure Huang Immortal, you dare summon the Demon Lord here? That’s against the will of Heaven!”

Old Master Lu said, “Immortal, I asked him to summon the Demon Lord. I want to live longer. Please don’t blame him.”

“Old sir, there are many ways to extend life. Summoning the Demon Lord is not one of them. The Demon Lord is malevolent; even if he helps, he’ll take more from you.”

“As long as I can live longer, I don’t care about the cost.”

“That’s wrong. Lifespan at any cost will bring immense suffering and endless torment in hell. I am close with the Southern Polar Elder. I can ask him to transfer a lifespan cycle to you without any cost. Dismiss the Demon Lord now!”

Old Master Lu was shocked. He asked Liao Chunhuang, “Immortal, is there such a way?”

Liao Chunhuang, sweating, said, “We’ve already asked the Three Stars of Fortune, Prosperity, and Longevity. They refused to help, so we resorted to this.”

“That’s because your cultivation is weak. The gods don’t respect you. It’s different if I ask.”

“Ha, my cultivation is weak? Don’t deceive mortals here. I’ve endured tribulations for fourteen hundred years, so even though I look old, I’m still youthful. Unlike you, whose elixir is impure, looking frail and old. Old sir, his cultivation is far below mine. Don’t be fooled by his words!”

“Hahaha!” The old Daoist laughed. “Ignorant junior, how dare you boast here? I’ve reincarnated nine times, cultivating for five billion eight hundred thousand years. Half the gods in Heaven are my juniors. You simply don’t recognize true immortality.”

“Then show us some skills!”

“Let me show you real immortal techniques. Hah!”

The old Daoist pushed, and the floating sock twisted in the air.

“Pathetic trick!” Liao Chunhuang scoffed, pushing the sock in the opposite direction.

The two exerted their powers, pushing the sock back and forth, amazing Old Master Lu. In reality, KK, Sun Zhen, and Liao Chunhuang’s disciples were fighting for control of the mechanisms in the hidden room.

Chen Shi and Lin Dongxue used the chaos to slip away.

As the two immortals “battled,” they entered Liao Chunhuang’s meditation room, spraying Luminol on the floor but finding no bloodstains.

They moved to the next room, still finding nothing. Lin Dongxue suggested, “Could it be in a hidden room?”

“No, KK was just showing the old Daoist around. It must be one of these rooms… The blood should have dried on the floor. How did KK step in it?”

“Even if we used a wet swab to collect blood samples, KK’s shoe was wet then.”

“Exactly!” Chen Shi exclaimed. “He probably went to a place like a bathroom. Let’s look.”

At the end of the corridor was a bathroom, opposite a room with Zhou Xiao’s memorial tablet. They sprayed Luminol on the floor. Near the mat, they saw a faint blue glow. Excited, they collected samples.

Chen Shi felt a draft and put his hand on the wall. Lin Dongxue asked what was wrong. He said, “There’s wind!”

The rooms were made of reinforced concrete, with wooden paneling to give a traditional feel. Chen Shi knocked on a panel and heard a hollow sound.

He kicked it a few times, cracking the wood, revealing a hidden door.

They exchanged surprised looks and squeezed through, finding a large space with a cement platform. Shadowy figures stood around, creating a creepy atmosphere.

Lin Dongxue pulled a cord, illuminating the hidden room. Five bronze statues stood around the platform, hands extended, with a yin-yang diagram painted on top.

Lin Dongxue sprayed Luminol on the platform but found no reaction. The ritual hadn’t started yet. Chen Shi noticed a small freezer by the entrance, an odd placement in the empty room.

Opening it, he found several bags of frozen human organs.

“Evidence! Liao Chunhuang is definitely…” Chen Shi turned to find Qingfeng silently standing behind them. Before he could react, Qingfeng grabbed and threw him across the room.

“Bastard!”

Lin Dongxue punched Qingfeng in the face. He didn’t flinch, grabbing her instead. Lin Dongxue tried to use a martial arts move but couldn’t budge Qingfeng’s thick limbs.

Qingfeng lifted her by the neck like a chick, making her struggle.

Seeing this, Chen Shi jumped on Qingfeng, trying to choke him. Qingfeng released Lin Dongxue, stumbling back and struggling to grab Chen Shi.

Despite the size difference, Chen Shi held on, trying to choke him out. Qingfeng’s face turned red and purple, his movements slowing. Chen Shi’s jacket was nearly torn apart, but he didn’t let go.

Just as he was about to succeed, Mingyue appeared, pulling Chen Shi off. Not wanting to be thrown, Chen Shi slipped out of his jacket and ducked between Mingyue’s legs.

Mingyue turned to punch him, but Chen Shi dodged, striking Mingyue’s waist.

As Mingyue turned angrily, Chen Shi circled, kicking his knee.

“Oh!”

Mingyue roared, turning again. Chen Shi punched his nose, making it bleed.

Qingfeng moved to help, but Lin Dongxue shouted, “Freeze!”

She drew her gun. Even immortals fear bullets. Qingfeng hesitated, ready to surrender, but Mingyue, more defiant, said, “Don’t fear. Cops won’t shoot.”

“Want to bet?” Chen Shi challenged.

Mingyue hesitated. They didn’t dare risk their lives.

“Get on your knees!”

“A man kneels to Heaven and Earth, parents, and…”

“Kneel!”

The two reluctantly raised their hands and knelt. Chen Shi caught the handcuffs Lin Dongxue tossed and cuffed them together.

“Who sent you?”

“Master… He noticed you were missing and sent us to check. You’re up to no good.”
