Chapter 0081 – Dangerous Child
This side quest was described in first person, about a person who hid in the fifth cubicle of the toilet in order to catch the red shadow that always appeared at midnight.
What happened afterward was not described in detail in the quest introduction, leaving Chen Ge with ample room for imagination.
He turned off the flashlight and was a little puzzled in his heart, “The mission said that a red shadow would appear in the toilet at midnight, but listening to the footsteps it was clear that two people were walking side by side, could it be that the red shadow had made a new friend during the years that the school had been deserted?”
The footsteps were slowly approaching the second floor toilet, according to the mission requirements, Chen Ge should hide in the fifth cubicle of the toilet at this time, but he felt that this was too passive, and if he really encountered something scary, he wouldn’t be able to run away.
”Maybe I should be more proactive.”
Chen Ge carried a tool hammer and ambushed behind the bathroom door, no matter who came in, he was prepared to give the other party a hammer first.
Taking a breath, Chen Ge held his breath and raised the tool hammer in his hand.
The sound of footsteps became clearer and clearer, it seemed to be two people running side by side, they were close to the second floor bathroom.
The waiting process was a kind of torture for Chen Ge, he had no idea what was outside, much less what the thing was planning to do, he could only try not to make any noise while eavesdropping.
About a few seconds later, the footsteps finally stopped at the door of the toilet.
”They’re coming!”
Chen Ge’s hand holding the tool hammer was already starting to sweat, and his heartbeat gradually accelerated.
The storm was raging outside the toilet, and more and more raindrops were scraping into the house, wetting the ground.
”Where are the people?” Chen Ge twisted his head to look behind himself and above the door panel, there was no sudden emergence of things such as human faces, his patience was slowly worn clean, he grabbed the door panel with one hand and prepared to go out and take a look himself.
But before he could step out from behind the door, a bolt of lightning lit up the night sky, and through the brief bright light, Chen Ge saw two shadows appear on the toilet floor.
”There’s someone at the door!”
His body froze in place, the flashlight had long been turned off, and at this point, the toilet was pitch black, so he couldn’t see anything.
”The shadows are short, like two children.” He didn’t dare to be the slightest bit relieved, and waited a few more seconds before footsteps sounded at the door again.
Only unlike what he had envisioned, the owner of the footsteps did not enter the restroom, but rather entered a side hallway, seemingly going to the first floor.
”This is gone?”
Chen Ge slowly moved his feet and looked towards the door of the toilet, where there was nothing.
”What was standing at the door just now seemed to be two children, this is a deviation from the red shadow described in the black cell phone mission, is it because the time has been too long apart and there is an unknown change, or is it that the campus has awakened early because of my arrival, causing certain strange things to awaken?”
Chen Ge couldn’t think of an answer, and he didn’t have the heart to explore this.
Turning on the flashlight, Chen Ge walked outside the fifth cubicle in the restroom, regardless of whether this was the black cell phone’s mission objective or not, he had to check it over.
Pushing the door panel, there was still nothing behind the dilapidated cubicle.
”According to the current situation, the cubicle I’m looking for should be in the third floor toilet, those two kids ran to the first floor just now, now is the perfect opportunity.” Chen Ge hurriedly walked outside, and before he could walk out of the toilet, his cell phone suddenly vibrated, and an unfamiliar phone call came in.
”Whose number is this?” Chen Ge had very few friends, and the only ones he had basically never contacted him.
He hesitated, hunkered down in the corner, exited the live broadcast, and answered the call, “Hello.”
”You’re Gao Ruxue’s classmate, right? I heard that you encountered a child with abnormal demeanor today who might be suffering from mental illness?” The voice on the other side of the cell phone was mature and steady, giving people a feeling that they could be trusted.
”En, and you are?”
”I’m her father and a lecturer at Jiujiang Medical University.”
Heshan had previously told Chen Ge that he had given his phone number to Gao Ruxue, and now it seemed that the “schoolmate” with her own cooling aura was quite reliable.
”Can you tell me more about that child’s situation? Mental illness is a poisonous weed rooted in the body, and if it’s not removed as soon as possible, it can ruin a person’s future.” Gao Ruxue’s father was well aware of the dangers of mental illnesses, and in his opinion mental illnesses were even more dangerous than certain physical ailments.
”It’s like this, there’s a seven or eight year old child who’s in completely normal physical condition, but seems to be somewhat autistic, unwilling to communicate with others, and fearful of the sun.”
”Any other symptoms? It’s best to be more detailed.”
”I met this child at the entrance of the haunted house, his aunt told me that this child especially likes to play in the haunted house, he completely lacks the fear and awe that a normal person should have in the haunted house, unlike in the sunlight, the whole person is a lot more active, and it seems that he only feels safe where the sunlight doesn’t shine.” Chen Ge voiced the doubts in his heart in a brain, if he hadn’t seen it with his own eyes, he wouldn’t have believed that there would be such a child.
”A seven or eight year old child who likes to go to a haunted house to play? And won’t be scared?”
”Yes. That child was even curious about the haunted house actors who wore dead people’s makeup.”
There was silence on the other side of the microphone for a few seconds, “If it’s just that he won’t feel scared, then it could be U-Veil’s Disease, which causes the amygdaloid portion of his brain to function in a damaged way.”
”I’m sorry, I don’t quite understand.”
”It’s very simple, the amygdala is the nerve center where fear memories are built up, and it’s also responsible for controlling the production of emotions such as fear and anger, so if there’s a problem here, a person wouldn’t feel scared even if he touched a high-voltage line, or approached a ferocious beast or a venomous snake, let alone enter a haunted house.”
What Gao Ruxue’s father said made sense, but Chen Ge felt that this disease was not quite the same as Fan Yu’s case: “Mr. Gao, that kid isn’t unafraid of anything, he’s afraid of the sunlight and hates to walk under it. Also his kind of condition is no longer just not afraid of the haunted house, but very much enjoys the atmosphere of the haunted house, he’s completely different in the haunted house than he is outside.”
Chen Ge thought for a moment and added: “He didn’t say a word outside the haunted house and didn’t have any contact with others at all; after entering the haunted house he got excited, and if he was forcibly pulled out of the haunted house he would still make attacks on people, I personally saw him gouge his aunt’s arm.”
”Listening to this description of yours, it feels a bit like the symptoms of bipolar disorder; when manic, he is full of destructive desire and loses his mind, and will even hurt the people closest to him; when depressed, he will feel lonely and sad, and refuses to communicate, and is closed in his own world.” Teacher Gao carefully analyzed for Chen Ge, “But there’s one thing I can’t figure out, patients suffering from bipolar disorder have random episodes, there’s no such thing as entering a haunted house and changing. Personally, I feel that since he experienced a change in personality in a haunted house, the cause of his illness should be related to the haunted house. Was he frightened in the haunted house when he was young? Or maybe his parents worked in a haunted house?”
After listening to Gao Ruxue’s father’s words, Chen Ge vaguely had a guess.
The boy’s personality change was related to the haunted house, and the biggest difference between his haunted house and the outside world was that there were really ghosts in his haunted house.
