Chapter 0116 – Obsessive Compulsive Disorder
Mennan dared not go to sleep and stood stubbornly in the center of the room. He remained in a bizarre position, his head seemingly on the verge of being pressed off his shoulders.
”I always feel like there’s something pressing on top of his head.” Chen Ge was afraid of irritating Men Nan, and her voice was very low: “It’s not that kind of mental fantasy, but something real.”
Dr. Gao gently waved his hand and accompanied Men Nan as he took out his cell phone, as if he was texting someone.
Seeing that Dr. Gao didn’t reply, Chen Ge began to search the other rooms in the rental house.
The house was only about thirty square meters, but the sparrow was small and complete, boasting a bedroom, living room, and a separate bathroom.
”So it just looks like a very ordinary rental house.” Chen Ge turned around and didn’t find any dead ends, there was no possibility of hiding a corpse.
He came out of the living room and pushed open the wooden door of the bathroom again, and to his surprise, there was a bust mirror hanging on the wall directly opposite the door.
”Mirror against the door?” Because of the first nightmare mission, Chen Ge was very sensitive to mirrors.
He silently walked to the mirror and looked at himself in the mirror, “It’s rare to see a layout where you see yourself in the mirror as soon as you open the door, more or less it will feel a bit strange.”
The surface of the mirror was clean, it seemed to have been wiped down often, not a single stain could be found.
The line of sight moved away, and below the mirror was a washstand, and in the middle of Men Nan’s nightmare, this was where he had been standing to wash his hair.
Chen Ge mimicked Men Nan’s posture, lying on his back in front of the washstand, his body bent forward ninety-five degrees, and his head was just able to reach under the faucet.
”From this angle you can just see the scene outside the house, and it’s entirely possible that the scene he dreamed about in his dream will come true.” If he was lying under the faucet and couldn’t see the scene in the living room, or if his sight was blocked by something else, then Chen Ge wouldn’t even feel scared, indicating that it was just a dream.
However, after testing it himself, he realized that all of this was something that was completely possible even in reality.
Sticking his head into the sink, the world was reflected upside down in his eyes.
”Men Nan said that every time he dreamed, that man would be a little closer to him, and this place is also suspicious, why didn’t the other party just walk over and get him killed? It has to torture him a little bit, is there any deep hatred between the two?” Chen Ge was pondering when the back of his neck suddenly felt a trace of coldness, he immediately straightened up and touched his neck.
”A drop of water? Where did it drip from?” Chen Ge tilted his head to look at the roof, there were no traces of seepage from the ceiling, and that drop of water appeared inexplicably.
”Could it be a mirror?” He couldn’t help but conjure up this image in his mind, he was washing his hair in front of the sink, and the mirror himself poked out half of his body and grabbed his neck.
”The black cell phone shows that the name of this trial mission is called Room for Three, the mission name itself is a hidden hint.” Chen Ge looked at himself in the mirror and felt as if he had guessed something: “There are three ‘people’ in the room, Men Nan counts as one, the man who kept approaching in the dream counts as another, and at this time there is a third ‘person’ in the room’s existence, could this third person be hiding in the mirror?”
Chen Ge propped his hands on the sink and swept a glance to both sides, he found two empty shampoo bottles thrown in the toilet trash can.
”How long has Men Nan only moved into this apartment building, and he’s already used up two bottles of shampoo? If he’s only washing his hair in the dream world, how could he be running low on shampoo in reality? Could it be that this kid has a habit of sleepwalking? He would run off alone to wash his hair in the middle of the night?” Chen Ge thought for a while and then thought that it was unlikely, as the other party had said when he had communicated with Dr. Gao before. In order to rule out the apartment itself, Dr. Gao had taken Men Nan back to his own home, but Men Nan’s nightmares did not stop.
”Rule out sleepwalking for now, but if Men Nan was using up two bottles of shampoo in a short period of time while he was awake, that’s even stranger, why would he be frantically washing his hair?”
Even the cleanest person would be able to wash his hair once a day, but Men Nan had used up two bottles of shampoo in a very short period of time, and the third bottle of shampoo next to the sink was only half a bottle left.
”Under what circumstances do people keep washing their hair? Itchy head? Dirty hair? Or feel like there’s something in their hair?” Chen Ge leaned against the wall and thought, “Men Nan fought with someone at school twice, the first time because he found the animal patterns on the curtains were asymmetrical, and the second time because he couldn’t count the sesame seeds on the pie, this person should be suffering from severe OCD.”
For someone with OCD, the slightest thing that was out of place, they would try to correct it, and if they couldn’t, they would feel bad all over. Chen Ge felt that Men Nan was frantically washing her hair because of this reason.
”The answer to the question is only clear to Men Nan himself, he’s probably hiding something very important from Dr. Gao.” Chen Ge’s side was speculating when his cell phone suddenly vibrated, took it out and saw that it was a text message from Dr. Gao.
”Men Nan’s family environment is a bit complicated, and it’s not quite the same as the results of my previous investigation. After I told Men Nan’s family about his condition, his family reacted very coldly, only saying that they would give enough money to Men Nan’s bank card to cover the cost of treatment, without the slightest intention of coming to Jiujiang to visit him. This matter is not convenient for me to let Men Nan know, so I can only send you a text message to tell you.”
”Your own son is sick? The one who is a parent is not even willing to come over to accompany him?”
”I didn’t think about it either, when I asked Men Nan and his classmates around him before, everyone thought that Men Nan was born into a very amicable family, and I even purposely looked up his social media platforms, which contained many posts of gratitude for his family.”
Men Nan showed himself to outsiders as a good student who lived in a cozy family, was well-educated, had a cheerful personality, and was a solid professional, but in reality, it was possible that all of this was just his disguise.
Chen Ge finished reading the text message and told Dr. Gao what he had just discovered.
It didn’t take long for Dr. Gao to return a few text messages to him.
”Obsessive-compulsive disorder can be roughly categorized into four categories: worry, ritual, cleanliness, and perfection, after my observation, Men Nan’s condition doesn’t fall into any of these four categories, and it seems that he washes his hair simply because he has the need to do so.”
”It seems to me that Mennan’s manifestation is more like another kind of mental illness – traumatic stress disorder, just like after an earthquake, individual survivors will be in a state of high alert for a long time, it’s hard for them to get rid of the shadow brought by the earthquake, and their brain will feed them a kind of wrong information that it seems as if the earthquake could come back at any time.”
”Mennan’s symptoms are very similar to traumatic stress disorder; he is nervous and his eyes are rolling, which means he is very insecure, as if something could come out and hurt him at any time. In this case, he went to wash his hair, possibly as a self-protective behavior.”
