Detective Bureau, Robbery-Murder Division.

Luke and David walked into the office one after the other.

The silver haired lieutenant smiled, “Wow, the two main men of the Detective Bureau are back, did you find the suspect Tony?”

David casually replied, “No, we found Tony’s house, but there was no one there, and from the condition of the house, he’s been gone at least a week.”

“Since we haven’t seen Tony, how did you guys get into the house?” The lieutenant’s words fell and then he waved his hand, “Forget it, forget I asked, you guys better report to the captain.”

Jenny said, “David, are you hurt?”

David subconsciously wiped the corner of his mouth, “We had a bit of an accident while poking around for information on Tony, but the good news is that we developed a member of the local Drag Race party as a temporary informant. He’s agreed to help with the lead on Tony.”

With that said, David looked over at the civilian staff member to the side, “Matthew, we need more information on Tony, you’re going to have to step up your game.”

Matthew stood up, pushed up his glasses, and explained, “I’ve been looking into it, but there aren’t many records of his information.

More than ten years ago, Tony opened a small restaurant, which didn’t last long before closing down. There were also some records of stock speculation, which didn’t last long either.

There hadn’t been any serious work since then.

There were some medical records, the most recent being a drug overdose that sent him to the hospital three years ago.

He’s also been to rehab five times, but apparently it didn’t work out.”

Marcus bristled, “The slums are full of people like that, on the fringes of the city, and it’s hard to find them with official information. The best way is through gangs or friends and family.”

Luke pressed, “What about Tony’s immediate family?”

Matthew replied, “Tony’s hometown is Nevada and he only moved to California twenty years ago. No contact information has been found for them yet.”

There was no household registration system in the United States, and there was a large movement of people between cities, and Los Angeles, as the second largest city in the United States, had a large influx of people every year.

Luke turned to David and asked, “Should you go and report to the captain, or should I?”

David pointed to his face, “Do you think it’s appropriate for me to look like this now?”

Luke knocked on the door and entered the captain’s office.

“Captain, I’ve come to brief you on the progress of this investigation.”

Susan pointed to the chair across the room, “Sit down and talk.”

Luke gave a brief account of the investigation at the gun store and Tony’s house.

Some work was done on the expression, focusing on his role and weakening David’s actions.

It wasn’t that he was deliberately trying to take credit, but some of David’s practices were not appropriate to say to Susan, and it was a kind of protection for David.

It was good for both of them.

Susan listened and asked, “Is that informant trustworthy?”

“He’s not directly related to Tony, and I believe he’ll do his best for his own freedom.”

“Keep an eye on this man and don’t make a mess.”

“I will.” Luke finished and turned the tables, “Captain, there’s one more thing I want to tell you.”

“Go ahead.”

“I’d like to change my partner.”

“Why?”

“It may …… be that David and I aren’t quite right for each other.”

“But as far as I know you two have a good personal relationship.”

“Husbands and wives can still be at odds after spending a lot of time together, let alone partners, and I’d still like to change partners.”

“Then give me a valid reason.”

Luke thought for a moment and said, “David and I have a somewhat different approach to investigating cases, and I feel that some of his behavior is a bit aggressive, and although it’s also for the purpose of investigating cases, it’s likely to be met with complaints.

I advised David to be rational, but apparently he wouldn’t listen.”

“You’re right, David’s way of investigating cases is indeed aggressive and reckless, he has violated the police department’s rules many times, and we’re old acquaintances when we were working in the Internal Affairs Department.”

“You agree that I should change partners?”

“No.”

“Why?”

“I’m glad we’re on the same page, you two are partners, and you’ll be the first to stop David when he makes a mistake and help me keep an eye on him.”

“Are you kidding?”

“I’m serious, keep me posted.”

“I’m becoming your informant?”

Susan pointed outside, “Everyone in this office is my informant, is that a problem?”

“No…… you are the Boss.”

“Good, you can go out now.”

Luke got up and walked to the door, then returned and said, “David’s been in the Robbery and Murder Division for many years, and has more seniority than I do, so even if I tried to talk him out of it, he wouldn’t listen.”

“So what’s on your mind?”

“Can I take the lead when we’re out on duty? That way I can control the situation better.”

“Could be.”

“If you can talk to David personally, I’m sure he’ll tone it down a bit.”

“David is a detective, you’re just an agent, I can’t order him to listen to you. I will support you, but not in this way. You want the initiative, fight for it yourself.”

“Fight for it how?”

“That’s your problem. Close the door for me, please.”

“It was a pleasure talking …… to you.” Luke closed the door to his room with force.

David looked at Luke, “You look a little worse for wear, kissing ass on the hoof?”

Luke was a little depressed, looking at the situation he couldn’t get rid of this guy for the time being.

“Ringing ……” Luke’s cell phone rang.

An unfamiliar number.

“Hello.”

“Are you Officer Luke?”

“It’s me, who is it?”

“This is Daisy. Do you have time tomorrow? To show my appreciation, I’d like to take you to dinner.”

Luke said, “Ms. Daisy, it is my duty to catch criminals. I can feel your sincerity and thank you for the invitation, but it really isn’t necessary.”

“Maybe it’s nothing to you, but it’s important to me; you saved my life. I would be very upset inside if I couldn’t thank you in person.”

Luke said, “I’m still working overtime today and I’m not sure I’ll be able to get tomorrow off.”

“Then I’ll leave you to your work and contact you later.”

David asked, “You got a new date so soon?”

“It’s the young lady I saved, she wants to take me to dinner as a token of her appreciation.”

Marcus was interested in the subject and came over, “Go on then, I remember her name is Daisy, she’s pretty and has a great body, maybe ……”

Marcus squeezed his eyes in a you-know-what look.

Luke said, “She has a boyfriend.”

Marcus was curious, “How do you know? You guys knew each other before.”

When it came to this kind of situation in the country, Luke usually wouldn’t go there, but this was Los Angeles, and Luke was a little unsure.

As it happened, he also wanted to hear his colleague’s opinion.

Luke told the first chance encounter between the two and the events before the crime.

Marcus laughed after hearing it, ”Her so-called having a boyfriend is just being perfunctory, it’s just an excuse for refusing to hit on her, it doesn’t mean she really has a boyfriend.

Women who really have boyfriends instead don’t just come up and say they have a boyfriend, trust me, it’s all from experience.”

Marcus rubbed his chin, “Now the question is are you interested in her?”
