A+ A- Turn Off Light

Overtime was out of the question.

In his last life, Luke had spent most of his life staying up late and working overtime.

Staying up late for homework when he was a kid and working overtime when he was working was the norm.

Enough.

Really enough.

Living so seriously, working so hard, and working so hard, in return, he got an occupational disease and met God before he was forty.

In this life, he wanted to live easier.

Luke’s mother’s house was located in the Eno neighborhood.

On the east side of the community there was a small commercial plaza, not very large, but it was full of supermarkets, convenience stores, fast food restaurants, and gas stations.

Luke didn’t want to stay at the police station, nor did he want to go back to his mother’s house too early.

Just wanted to find a place to stay quietly, that’s all.

Luke parked his motorcycle in front of a milk tea store.

Luke was drinking milk tea for the first time in Los Angeles, and the clerk recommended Boba milk tea to him.

“Oye.”

Luke became intrigued and got the milk tea only to realize it was actually big grainy pearl milk tea.

“FUCK!”

Luke had a feeling of being cheated.

Finding a seat by the window, he sat down and took a sip of the milk tea, which was snoozy, snoozy, and worse than the domestic milk tea.

Then he began to daze.

This was Luke’s favorite thing to do after crossing over.

He still couldn’t figure out why he had crossed over to Los Angeles.

When he first crossed over, Luke had a feeling of being cut off and desperately wanted to contact his family and friends at home.

But out of professional sensitivity, Luke knew he couldn’t do that, and he tried to restrain this strong will to learn about China through other channels.

This was a parallel world, and although it was also the year 2022, there had been no epidemic here, and he could no longer go back.

Trying to accept his new identity, but adapting to life abroad was not as easy as he thought.

Without realizing it, it has been half a month ……

“Buzz ……”

A voice suddenly rang in Luke’s brain, [Host match successful, the Divine Detective System to start …… the initial trial rewards a ‘Strange Encounter Card’].

“What the hell?”

Luke thought he was hallucinating, followed by a menu of options in his brain, and a warehouse interface appeared on the left side.

Luke slapped his head and poured a large mouthful of milk tea, the interface in his head remained.

Soon Luke calmed down, although it was a bit unbelievable, but what is it compared to crossing over?

Excluding the possibility of mental problems.

Luke’s primary consideration is whether this so-called ‘Divine Detective System’ has harmed himself?

Luke examined himself without any abnormality or discomfort, and for the time being, he did not find any harm from the ‘Sleuth System’ to himself.

Next, what is the use of researching the ‘Divine Detective System’?

There is a card in the warehouse interface with the word ‘Adventure’ written on it, and there is a small line of notes below it [Passive Card, Function Unknown].

Luke thought in his head, “System, what is the use of this card?”

No response.

Asked a few more times, still no response.

It could only be understood based on the literal meaning of the words – passively triggering some kind of encounter.

Sounds not bad, I wonder if I can get some money?

Suddenly, Luke had an occupational disease.

There was a feeling of being ‘spied on’.

Luke came back to his senses, his eyes scanned around, there weren’t many customers in the store, and no suspicious figures were found outside the window.

“Could it be that I’m being paranoid ……”

Suddenly having a system, it was inevitable that there would be some worry.

Luke calmed down, the system this thing can not be seen and touched, as long as he does not actively make a death, no one can find out.

Himself a poor Los Angeles hangman, in addition to looking handsome there is nothing worth being spied on.

As for that Harley motorcycle technically still belongs to the bank.

Harley is the original owner of the loan to buy, spent twenty thousand U.S. dollars, down payment of four thousand U.S. dollars, loan sixteen thousand U.S. dollars, loan a year interest of six hundred U.S. dollars.

Monthly payments would be fourteen hundred dollars.

Luke’s current monthly salary was about 6,500 dollars.

By all accounts, his income is not low, but after tax deductions, his actual income is less than 5,000 dollars, in addition to the motorcycle loan, credit card loans and external debt.

At the beginning of the month, after the paycheck to pay off the car loan and card loan, there are only a few hundred dollars left for living expenses.

Luke now just wants to make money and rent a house.

He didn’t want to live like a parasite anymore.

After work, lying on his own couch, watching TV shows, drinking beer, eating fried chicken, this is called life.

Now, he could only live this life in his dreams.

Hopefully, this card will bring him good luck.

Thursday morning, 8.58am.

Luke walked into the ‘Heist-Murder Division’ humming a little tune.

With an extra system, he was in a pretty good mood.

David, a white balding man, looked over and Luke didn’t wait for him to speak and directly compared his middle finger.

David wasn’t offended, “Congratulations, you won the lottery.”

“What do you mean?” Luke was wary, the ‘Sleuth System’ was exposed?

Impossible.

That thing can’t be seen or touched, how could it be discovered?

David pointed to the captain’s office, “Queen Susan has summoned you.”

“Childish trick, I’m not going to be stupid enough to turn myself in.” Luke was just relieved to have another bad feeling.

“I conveyed it.” David shrugged in a you’ll-believe-it-or-not kind of way, “Goodluck.”

A few minutes later, Luke entered the captain’s office.

“Captain, you wanted to see me?”

“Yes.” Susan grimaced and pointed to the chair across from her, gesturing for Luke to sit down.

“What are your orders?”

Susan leaned forward pressing her elbows into the desk, “I haven’t been transferred to the ‘Robbery-Murder Division’ long enough to sense that you guys don’t really like me.

I’m no different.

But I don’t want to bring that emotion to work.”

“You misunderstand, I’ve never felt that way.”

“Luke, your whole state has been off since your last injury. You refused to work overtime, you picked and chose your assignments, and you were always distracted in meetings.

If the injury makes it impossible for you to take on your current job, I can help you apply for a transfer to an easier position.”

If it was a few days ago Luke probably wouldn’t care about the transfer, but now it was different again.

He had just obtained the Divine Detective System and hadn’t yet figured out how the system was triggered, but from the name ‘Divine Detective System’ might be related to the police profession.

He wasn’t sure if the change in position would affect the ‘divine Detective System’.

Even for the sake of the Divine Detective System, he had to stay for the time being.

“Last time I was injured, my mindset did change a bit, realizing that my family is the most important, and wanting to spend more time with my family, that’s why I’m not willing to work overtime.

I believe in my own ability, I can do my job just as well without working overtime, and will become an indispensable part of this team.”

“I am willing to believe you.

But your current state and what your coworkers are saying about you makes me doubt it.

I want to see action and change from you. Otherwise, I’ll help you apply for a transfer whether you want it or not, understand?”

“Giving me half a month will show you my value on the team.” Half a month was enough for Luke to figure out the ‘Sleuth System’.

Susan’s tone did not carry the slightest emotion, “You only have a week.”
