A+ A- Turn Off Light

St. Mary’s Hospital, Ward 305.

Luke and Jackson walked outside the ward and knocked on the door before pushing it open and walking in.

Rebecca Mozelle was sitting on the hospital bed, looking much better than yesterday. There was also a white man sitting next to the hospital bed, slim and wearing a pink suit, who was chatting with Rebecca Mozelle in a low voice.

Luke greeted, “Ms. Mozelle, feeling better?”

“Thanks for asking, I’m much better.” Rebecca Mozell responded and turned to the man in the pink suit, “These are the officers in charge of the robbery investigation, Captain Lee and Detective Beech.”

The man in the pink suit stood up and introduced himself, “I’m Rebecca’s agent, Wendell Dumas. You two officers are just in time, I was looking for you to find out how the investigation of the case is progressing.”

Luke wasn’t surprised to see Rebecca Mozelle’s agent here; there would be something wrong if the agent didn’t show up for a long time.

“Sure, but before that, I’d like to talk to Rebecca Mozelle.”

“Okay, I’ll meet you guys outside.” Wendell Dumas and Rebecca Mozelle said hello and left the hospital room.

Luke said, “Ms. Mozelle, we talked to Ms. Kaia Ehaiti based on the clues you provided. She doesn’t have a clear motive for the crime.”

Rebecca Mozelle frowned and said, “But I stole her role after all.”

Luke said, “On that point, you needn’t worry. Kaia Ehti already has a new movie role, and we verified that, so she’s not too concerned about that role as the California girl.”

Rebecca Mozelle blushed slightly, “You mean she voluntarily gave up the role of California Girl?”

Luke didn’t answer and turned his words around, “Ms. Mozelle, do you know Bradley Linderman?”

Rebecca Mozelle froze for a moment and nodded, “Yes, he’s an excellent producer, why?”

“We learned from other sources that you and Bradley Linderman have a somewhat unusual relationship. I’d like to find out what exactly is your relationship?”

Rebecca Mozell blushed a little, “I’m sorry, that’s private and I don’t think it has anything to do with the robbery.”

Luke said, “It should be obvious to you that this robbery must have something to do with someone close to you. We’re not trying to convict him, we’re trying to eliminate him as a suspect.”

“He wouldn’t do that to me, never.”

Luke asked rhetorically, “What about his wife?”

Rebecca Mozelle fell silent and after a while said, “Well, I could tell you, but I’d like you to keep it a secret.”

“Of course.”

Rebecca Mozell took a deep breath, “Bradley Linderman and I are very close friends, the kind you can make friends with.”

“Has he ever been to your house?”

“Yes.”

“Does her wife know about this?”

Rebecca Mozelle shook her head, “I don’t think so.”

“If she knew, what do you think the other woman would do?”

Rebecca Mozelle rubbed her cheeks with both hands, “Earlier, Bradley Lindemann gave me a very precious sapphire necklace, and I put that necklace in the safe, which was also taken by the robbers.”

“Do you have a picture of that necklace?”

“Yes.”

Luke recorded this clue, which was a new direction for the investigation.

Luke thought again about the progress of the investigation on the vice squad’s end and said, “We found that crazy fan of yours who admitted to writing to you regularly, however, he didn’t admit to being a robbery suspect. He has an alibi for that early morning.”

Rebecca Mozelle said, “Can you tell him for me to stop writing letters for me?”

“It’s better if you tell him yourself.” Luke finished and thought of his agent, Wendell Dumas, who was waiting outside the hospital room, “How is your relationship with your agent?”

“Wendell is very nice and has helped me a lot in work and life. He was in New York on a business trip earlier and came back to visit me the first time he heard the news of my accident.”

Luke nodded, “OK, get some rest.”

Luke and Jackson exited the hospital room and saw Wendell Duma waiting outside.

Wendell Duma greeted them and said, “Captain Lee, any progress on the case?”

Luke nodded, “Some clues have been identified.”

Wendell Duma looked in the direction of ward 305 and said, “This time, the incident has hit Rebecca very hard, and her mood is very low. Every time she talks about the case, it hurts her a second time.

I’m her agent and know her well. So ask me if there are any new developments in the investigation of the case or if you guys want to know anything.”

Luke smoothly asked, “Mr. Wendell Dumas, as far as you know, has Rebecca Mozelle offended anyone recently?”

Wendell Dumas shook his head, “No, she’s a very nice person and has hardly had any conflicts with other people.”

“According to our investigation, this robbery was most likely a deliberate retaliation by someone, do you have anyone you suspect?”

“No. To be honest, I’m still a little incredulous that such a terrible thing happened.”

Luke stared at the other party, vaguely feeling that the other party was lying or hiding something.

“Ringing ……”

Just then, Luke’s cell phone rang. He stepped aside to answer the call, “Hey, it’s me.”

“Well …… I know.”

After hanging up his cell phone, Luke looked deeply at Wendell Dumas, although he felt that this guy had problems, but without evidence, the other party will definitely not tell the truth, but instead, he might scare the snakes. He exchanged a greeting with Wendell Duma and then took Jackson to leave the hospital.

Jackson got into the car and asked, “Captain, where are we going?”

Luke said, “The technical team matched the suspect’s DNA in the database and found out the suspect’s identity and address. We’ll go directly to the suspect’s home to carry out the arrest.”

“What’s the address of the suspect’s house?”

Mokale neighborhood.

When Luke arrived near the suspect’s house, Ramon had already arrived first and brought people to stake out the suspect’s house.

Luke asked, “What’s the situation?”

Ramon pointed to the bungalow diagonally across the street, “That house is the suspect Kabineh Bess’s house, I’ve been on stakeout with my men for twenty minutes and there’s no movement.

I’ve also visited the surrounding neighbors and all of them said that none of them have seen Cabine Bess today. Also, according to neighbors, he has a black Chevrolet sedan and the car is not at the house. So I surmise that the suspect is probably not in the house and may have even escaped.”

Luke nodded, “Prepare for the search.”

“Understood.” Raymond responded and gathered the officers to prepare for action.

The course of action was simple.

Ramon led the men into the house to search, and Luke led the men to guard the outside of the yard to prevent Cabinet Bess from taking advantage of the chaos to escape.

“Bang!” The sound. The door breaker crashed through the back door of Cabine Bess’s house, and Ramon led the men to rush in.

“LAPD!”

“Clear!”

“No suspects in sight.”

Ramon led a good search, and there was no sign of the suspect in the house.

Luke then entered the house as well and searched it carefully.

There were traces of rummaging in the cupboards of the house, some seasonal clothes and daily necessities were gone, cash, passports, driver’s license and other items were not found, and there were some burnt ashes in the kitchen.

In Luke’s experience, the probability is that Cabine Bess has run away. It was normal to think about it, this guy had a previous record and had the guts to leave his DNA behind, making it clear that he was planning to do a job and then run away.

Jackson came over and asked, “Captain, the suspect Cabine Bess has most likely run away, what do we do now?”

Luke thought for a moment, “Put out an APB for Kabineh Bess. Also, search for the black Chevrolet sedan that Kabineh Bess was in.”

“Yes, Sir.”

Three o’clock in the afternoon, the office of the Robbery and Murder Division.

Luke gathered the men together to summarize the case.

Raymond said, “At noon today, we searched the house of the suspect, Cabinet Bess, and found no trace of Cabinet Bess. We then pulled neighborhood surveillance and tracked down Kabine-Beth’s black Chevrolet sedan. Last night, the suspect vehicle left the community and traveled all the way south onto Highway 1, with a high probability of fleeing Mexico. We lost track of the car.”

Luke said, “Keep tracking.”

The lieutenant looked at his watch, “Judging by the time, it’s possible that the suspect has already smuggled himself into Mexico, and it’s already too late.”

Although the lieutenant was a bit pessimistic in this speculation, the possibility did exist, Luke said, “I’ve asked the victim to identify a photo of the suspect, Cabine Bess. She has not seen Kabineh Bess before, and it is unlikely that the other person has been to her house. That means there should be another mole in this case. It’s possible that Cabinet Bess could have fled to Mexico, but the mole certainly won’t. So, while we are hunting down Cabine Bess’s coworkers, we should also continue to investigate the clues of the mole.”

Luke paused for a moment and continued, “From the available evidence, there is a possibility that there are two insiders. One of them is Bradley Linderman, a movie and television producer.

Bradley Lindemann, although married, maintains an inappropriate relationship with Rebecca Mozelle. And Bradley Lindemann once gave Rebecca Mozelle a precious sapphire necklace, which was also snatched by the suspect Kabineh Bess. Also, we can use the stolen items as a trail.

The second suspect is Rebecca Mozelle’s manager, Wendell Dumas. He happened to be out of Los Angeles at the time of the murder and has a clear alibi. However, when I spoke with him, I got the impression that he may have lied or was hiding something. However, there is no clear motive for Wendell Dumas to be found at this time.”

Luke went straight to the task: “What we need to do now is to line up Wendell Dumas and Bradley Lindemann to see if they are connected to the suspect, Kabineh Bess, and as soon as we can find a link between them, we can identify the mole.”
