Part 1 The Joker Chapter 131 The Deal
Mr. A? It feels more like a code name for a criminal rather than a mysterious and powerful person. …… There is no comparison to the “Fool”. …… No, those who can be compared to Mr. Fool should be deities or The second most important person is a god or a great person who is second only to a god……. Audrey’s thoughts turned around, and she was suddenly filled with a sense of superiority.
She gave Mr. A a calm look and lowered her voice to Fools and Hugh Dearcha:
”What is the deed of this gentleman?”
Viscount Graylingt, who was beside him, also clad in a hooded robe, was very curious about this.
Hugh Dilcha replied with a serious face, “There have been several times like this, where Sequence 8, or even Sequence 7 Extraordinary Persons have targeted Mr. A and tried to deal with him, but in the end, they all disappeared without a sound.”
”What a powerful extraordinary person.” Glorinte exclaimed in admiration and repeated the previous introduction.
As they spoke, the four entered the house, and the gatekeeper immediately closed the door.
Slightly acclimatized to the glow of the gas lamps, Audrey saw two blackboards erected at the very front with line after line of words written on them.
At that moment Forsyth, who was holding a rolled but unlit cigarette, whispered:
”Those are the individual needs of the members of the party, you should be able to understand that many people do not want others to know what they own, lest they be targeted by the greedy, so they anonymously write on the blackboards what they want, or what they wish to sell, as well as the approximate price and item requirements.”
Audrey nodded softly, not bothering to observe the members of the party, and skimmed straight through a few entries on the board to her left:
”Need a pair of adult Manhar fish eyes.”
”Dust left over from a grudge, £165.”
”Notes of Rosel the Great, three pages, 20 pounds.”
Seeing this, Audrey could no longer maintain her audience, shocked and excited.
These prices, these prices, too, too cheap! She thought with excitement and delight.
As she walked, her eyes moved to see more entries:
”Infant’s Cry, flowers, £200.”
”Mummy Powder, 10 grams, £5.”
”Fishman’s Slime, 30 ml, £29.”
”Sequence 8 ‘Magistrate’ magic potion recipe, £450.”
……
Too, too cheap! None of the extraordinary materials exceeded 300 pounds! Audrey’s eyes glistened as she looked on while following her companion to find a seat.
At that moment, Hugh Dilcha came to her ear and inquired in a low voice:
”What is it you want?”
Audrey’s nostrils worsened, and the famous declaration of Rossel the Great flashed through her mind in an instant:
”I want it all!”
She had two older brothers, so it wasn’t her turn to inherit the title or the main estate, but as the much-loved girl of her parents and older brothers, she had three hundred thousand pounds worth of property, fields, pastures, mines, jewelry, stocks, shares, and bonds to her name.
This was considered her share of the family fortune, but until her father, the Earl of Hall, passed away, or married himself, it was owned in name only, and she received a corresponding annuity each year.
But even so, she had a profit of 15,000 to 25,000 pounds a year, which could be ranked within the female nobility of the entire Kingdom of Ruin.
Of course, as a noble, a lot of necessary expenses were inevitable, especially since she was already taking annuity earnings and could no longer look to her parents for everything.
Controlling herself, she replied haughtily:
”I’m only looking at Rossel the Great’s notes for the time being, I’m an admirer of his, and I think that the special runes or words he created have mysterious powers, we just haven’t found a way to put them together correctly.”
Audrey, you are getting more and more hypocritical …… She silently added in her heart.
As soon as her words fell, a young man in a white shirt and black vest sitting on a nearby chair excitedly chimed in:
”Yes! That’s it! I’ve finally met someone who holds the same views as me!”
”I’m the owner of those three pages of notes, and I can sell them to you right now!”
…… Audrey was at first bewildered, then replied with a smile in her voice, “Then allow me to express my gratitude.”
She took out two ten pound cash and handed it to the other party, reaping the rewards of three pages of Rossel the Great’s diary, which, of course, no one here knew it was a diary, and only referred to it generically as notes.
Taking it into her hands and flipping through it, Audrey confirmed that the writing was similar to those she had acquired before.
Putting the diary away, she whispered to Hugh and Forsyth, “If the notes are fake, who can we call, Mr. A?”
”Yes, Mr. A doesn’t allow fraud in the parties he organizes, and well, I can arbitrate for you privately as well.” Hugh Dilcha leapt to reply.
”I see.” Audrey entered the “audience” state and began to scrutinize the Extraordinary and Extraordinary Reservists present.
Because of the young man’s excitement earlier, many people had noticed this side of the room and were either obviously or subtly sizing up Audrey and Grelint, but all lacked the gaze to penetrate the hood.
Sofas, chairs, and coffee tables were scattered about, collectively facing the blackboard …… The materials were very ordinary, indicating that Mr. A, the convener, was not an aristocrat and was very casual in this respect …… Well, with the confidence he showed, he would not deliberately go for a similar disguise …… Audrey rolled her eyes and observed calmly.
Mr. A surveyed all the young ladies and ladies present, and his eyes often rested on the good looking ones …… He is very horny …… Why does he always look at me? Can he see through the hood’s cover?
Inferring this, Audrey’s mind was so shocked that she was as sick as if she had eaten a fly.
But soon she dropped her heart, for she noticed that Mr. A. did not look toward her or the other females ……
This showed that his eyes did not see straight through the fabric …… His eyesight was so remarkable that it was as if he were sizing me up at close range, a situation in which the hood was of little use …… Audrey quietly watched the transactions of the others from the sidelines, grasping a portion of what was going on in the crowd present.
At that moment, Mr. A s valet approached and whispered to the four:
”You can either write your needs down on paper for me, or you can go into the small room and write the items you wish to sell on the board during the rest period later.”
Folth sniffs a rolled cigarette and looks around the room warily, “Have you considered the Sequence 9 recipes you want?”
In the intervening time, she honored her promise and told Audrey and Viscount Graylingt all the information she could learn about the sequence pathway.
Audrey pretended to think for a moment and said:
”‘Audience’, I want to become an ‘Audience’, well, and a follow-up to ‘Audience’, a ‘Mind Reader’ ‘.”
She considered that in the future, she would have to frequently come into contact with Forsyth and Hugh Dilcha, and sooner or later, she would be discovered by them to be an Extraordinary, a ‘viewer’, so she simply took this opportunity to bring things into the open and completely cover up the existence of the Tarot Society.
Although this will cost a fortune for nothing, it is well worth it …… Audrey quietly praised herself.
At the same time, she noticed Hugh Dilcha looking at the blackboard every now and then, eager and frustrated.
”Hugh has told me that the corresponding Sequence 8 for ‘Arbiter’ is ‘Magistrate’ …… She’s looking at that £450 worth of recipes? Well, I can see she’s very eager for the ‘Magistrate’ recipe ……”
”She’s been an ‘Arbiter’ for over a year and has been unconsciously playing the role of ‘Arbitration’, she should have already digested the magic potion …… ”
”All the above details indicate that Hugh, lacks money!”
While Audrey was secretly making a judgment, Viscount Grelint spoke out his own choice:
”‘Apothecary’, I need the formula for Sequence 9 ‘Apothecary’!”
Feeling the gazes from Audrey, Forsyth and Hugh, he heatedly explained, “To me, having health and not being afraid of most diseases and injuries is the most important thing!”
”Sensible choice, I used to dream of being a pharmacist as well.” Forsyth sighed and laughed.
She had a languid and decadent air.
After the decision was made, Audrey and the others wrote the requirements on slips of paper and handed them to the attendant, then watched as he circled around, asking from person to person, and gathering quite a few more slips of paper.
This squire handed a mix of slips of paper to his companion in charge of the blackboard and asked him to register the information.
”Need recipe for ‘Audience’ and ‘Mind Reader’ magic potions, price to be discussed in person ……”
With each entry, the waiter would read it aloud three times, and if anyone was interested, they would secretly request a room and complete the transaction with the help of the waiter.
After waiting for a while, Audrey and Glorinte were never able to wait for a request from someone who wanted to trade, and each was a little disappointed.
Just then, another maitre d’ came over, came up next to Audrey, and gave her a folded slip of paper.
”From Mr. A.” This waiter lowered his voice.
Audrey unfolded the note and glanced at it, only to see it read:
”Interested in another Sequence 9 formula?”
Audrey quirked the corner of her mouth dismissively and wrote in the margin of the note: “I’m only interested in the ‘audience’.”
She refolded the note and returned it to the waiter, watching the other hand it over to Mr. A.
Mr. A. opened it and glanced at it, saying nothing, remaining silent and quiet as he watched the members of the party.
But Audrey was keenly aware that the note quietly burned and fell to the ground in ashes.
After another fifteen minutes, Mr. A spoke:
”Enter the break and feel free to communicate.”
At this time, the young man who sold Roselle’s diary leaned in close to Audrey and said excitedly, “I’ve deciphered a portion of Roselle the Great’s special runes and tattooed them onto my body, gaining a nice ability.”
”Are you interested?”
Audrey instantly thought of the time she had asked Mr. Fool if the special words in Rosel the Great’s diary possessed magical abilities, and Mr. Fool’s answer had been that it would be unless one of the gods suddenly took an interest.
She looked at the young man in front of her, thought for a moment, and asked tentatively, “Gained any nice abilities?”
The young man answered excitedly:
”I’m stronger and healthier!”
Audrey gave him a pitying look and said, “I’m sorry, but I trust my research more.”
She continued to observe the gathering for the next few hours, but didn’t glean much useful information, only a rough judgment that there were members of normal professions such as doctors and lawyers.
After another half hour, Audrey and the others left the area and returned to Viscount Grelint’s villa, where they stayed until the end of the ball.
It was about 10 o’clock at night when Audrey returned home and was about to ask the maid to prepare hot water when she suddenly saw Susie, the big dog, giving herself a wink.
It gave me a wink …… Audrey s feelings became complicated at once.
