Looking into Klein’s eyes, Dunn drew in a breath, leaned back, and exhaled slowly again:

  ”Are you sure?”

His expression changed very little, as if he’d been prepared for this whole special application thing, he just hadn’t expected it to come so soon.

Captain, why do you have a feeling of relief and a sense of peace in your heart …… Klein said without hiding his smile:

”I’m sure, captain, when you completely mastered the magic potion, you will have a special, marvelous feeling to be sure without a doubt that you have completely mastered the magic potion.”

”A special, marvelous feeling ……,” Dunn whispered, chewing on the words, his brow slowly furrowing.

Huh, the captain’s two previous promotions had taken place without fully digesting the magic potion? That’s right, without knowing the “play method”, it’s hard to achieve complete digestion …… can only rely on the polishing of a long time and subconsciously some play to reduce the risk of losing control …… Poor captain! …… Klein quietly looked at Dunn Smith, did not open his mouth, did not add, let the other party think carefully.

After nearly a minute, Dunn’s dark gray eyes once again reflected Klein’s figure as he weighed his words:

”Perhaps waiting another year would be a better option.”

Does the captain mean that by waiting another year, I will be less conspicuous, and with Ms. Daley as a role model, the higher-ups won’t pay too much attention to me, and will at most be included in the list of those to be watched further? Klein thought about it and answered frankly:

”I originally also wanted to wait until next year to make a special application, after all, there are still a lot of things I need to master, for example, fighting is just getting started.”

”But, Captain, don’t you think we’ve encountered too many coincidences in the past month or two? Pursuing a kidnapper, only to meet the notes of the Antigonus family in the room across the hall; the delayed delivery of the seal ‘2-049’, only to have Rielle Beebe, surprisingly, not fleeing from Tingen, begin her attempts at digesting the power right there at the docks; I went to a birthday dinner, only to have it lead to the matter of Haynas Vansant; I went to the library to to investigate, and met that member of the Aurora Society on the spot ……”

”I don’t know what these coincidences mean, but I always feel uneasy, so I want to maximize myself.”

Seizing this opportunity, Klein nodded down to the matter of the person behind the curtain, which was also the arrangement he was originally going to put into his agenda – without revealing his own special circumstances, reminding the Night Watchman Squad so that they could find more clues from other sources, and those words he just said could only lead to one conclusion in the eyes of the others, intuitively sharp and adept at Sorting.

From the moment Kraven uttered the word “but”, Dunn’s body gradually leaned forward, and in the end, he put his crossed arms against his mouth.

His eyes were fixed, and he didn’t open his mouth for a long time, as if he was thinking about the words he had just said.

After a few dozen seconds, Dunn raised his head and said in a mellow and low voice:

”Very keen …… Perhaps, there really is something hidden in the depths of the darkness.”

Without waiting for Klein to speak, he turned to his orders:

”You can go ahead and write the special request.”

”Okay.” Klein replied with the corners of his mouth turned up.

He rose with a smile and walked towards the door, not surprisingly hearing the familiar addition again.

”Wait.” Dunn called out to the guy about to open the door and exit, weighing his words, “Watch the language.”

Don’t worry, Captain, I take this more seriously than you do! Klein nodded his head in agreement with a big smile.

He originally thought that Dunn would throw out another option, which was to privately promote to Serial 8 without going through the Holy Church and wait for three years before going through the normal process, but then he carefully researched it and realized that this was not possible because no matter if it was a special application or a normal application, the promoter would have to go through the examination by the personnel sent down from the Holy Church, except that one was very complicated and the other one was quite simple.

By that time, the secret of having become a Sequence 8 couldn’t be hidden from anyone, and it would involve the entire Tingen City Night Watchman Squad.

  ……

Leaving the captain’s office, Klein, who had already finished all of his occult courses, did not rush to go to the underground to change shifts, and slowly walked into the next door’s clerical staff room.

At this time, a man and a woman were sitting in this office, the man was in his early thirties and the woman was in her twenties, precisely the two new members.

When they saw Klein enter, they first stared, then piled up their smiles and nodded their heads in greeting, curious and in awe of the Extraordinary One.

Klein did not bother to chat with them, found an empty table, and wrote the draft of the “special application” with a brush.

Because he had a plan in mind, it only took him ten minutes to complete his preliminary work.

Repeatedly read a few times, continuous modification of a number of places, he sat down in front of the Akerson 1346 mechanical typewriter, the draft into the original.

At the sound of clacking keyboards, the two new clerical staff looked at each other and rose at the same time, walking out of the office and into the reception hall to chat with Roxanne, leaving the room to Klein alone.

Very formal, and very aware of confidentiality …… Klein glanced at their backs and secretly sighed in admiration.

He withdrew his eyes and continued tapping on the keyboard.

Just as he was about to get the special application done, Leonard Mitchell came out from inside the lounge, looking around while buttoning his shirt, his hair messy with an unruly beauty.

”What report are you typing up?” Leonard asked as he glanced over at the clerical staff office and leaned against the doorway, his right foot pointing on the toes and his hands in his pockets.

His turquoise eyes scrutinized Klein with interest.

Klein typed the last word and the last punctuation mark and smiled sideways:

  ”Special application.”

”Special application?” Leonard asked back, full of confusion.

Klein picked up the paper and quickly skimmed through it, explaining as if casually:

”Special application for promotion to Sequence 8.”

Cough! Cough! Leonard suddenly coughed violently for a long time before calming down and blurted out:

”You finished digesting the magic potion here?”

Digested? Classmate, you know a lot about it,…… Klein held the “special application” and walked in front of Leonard, raising his eyebrows:

  ”Yes.”

Then, he stared at the other party’s eyes, lowered his voice, smilingly added a sentence:

”I remember someone once told me that there are always some people in this world who are special and can accomplish things that are impossible for others to do.”

  ”Such as me.”

  ”Also like you.”

Leonard was so gagged at once that he didn’t know what to say, and could only change his standing position, pulling his hands out of his pockets and wrapping them around his chest.

He opened his mouth, finally organized his words, and asked in a deep voice, “Don’t you think that this, this is too risky?”

Since I know about the digestion, I must understand that there is no element of risk in my promotion …… Well, he means the watchful eyes of the Church hierarchy? Klein explained thoughtfully:

”Leonard, do you remember the first mission we worked on together? Just simply tracking down the kidnappers, it was surprising to find out that the room across the street hid clues to the Antigonus family’s notes ……”

He described what he had just said to Dunn again in its original form.

Leonard’s expression sank a little, and he nodded in faintly visible agreement.

He muttered, “Perhaps, I have to speed up my progress as well ……”

As soon as the words left his mouth, he suddenly looked at Klein and said with a bright smile:

”Aren’t you going to share your experience with us? The experience of quickly mastering magic potions and maximizing the risk of losing control!”

This guy’s face can change really fast ah …… Klein smiled and laughed:

  ”I’m happy to share.”

He was planning to take advantage of today’s opportunity to mention the members of the Night Watchman Squad and reduce the risk of them losing control.

Of course, for the sake of his own safety, it was impossible for him to speak too revealingly as he did when facing Dunn Smith, at most describing the content of the first padding, that which could be made known to the high-ranking underlings.

”Now then!” Leonard couldn’t wait to drag Klein toward the night watchman’s rec room.

At this moment, except for Loyo, who was rotating through the Charnis Gate, the rest of Frye, Kornleigh, and Siga Teang were all there, playing cards in a very leisurely manner.

”Guys, guys!” Leonard knocked on the half-hidden door of the room and spoke recitatively, “Let me solemnly introduce the gentleman next to me, Mr. Klein Moretti, who has completely mastered magic potions after only a month and a half!”

…… This guy is so pompous. …… Klein suddenly felt a little embarrassed.

”What?” Miss Siga Teang, neither a well-known nor a best-selling author, inclined her head as if testing her hearing.

”Leonard, don’t joke about it, your performances are always so pompous.” Cornley helplessly covered the cards in his hand.

Frye took the cards, looked at Kornleigh, and said in silence for a few seconds:

  ”Sure you’ve fully mastered Potions?”

”Yes.” Sensing the other party’s concern, Klein nodded affirmatively, “There’s an obvious sign present.”

”What? Really?” Kornleigh exclaimed as an afterthought, brushing herself up.

Leonard hemmed and hawed, pointing to the paper in Klein’s hand:

”This is the special application he submitted to get promoted to Sequence 8!”

”How did …… do that?” Sija Teang thought a lot, but after taking a breath, she still only asked the one she was most concerned about.

The quiet and civilized woman was having trouble controlling the burning of her gaze at this point.

Klein found a chair and sat down, his voice on the low side as he answered:

”I was inspired by the motto of the ‘Secret Peeper’.”

”Do what you want, but do no harm?” Leonard very dutifully matched.

”Yes. Our internal information shows that ‘secret peepers’ who follow this motto have a lower than normal probability of losing control.” Klein said what he knew from the old Neil, “After that, I got further ideas from Ms. Daley’s example.”

”‘Psychic’ Daley?” Kornleigh asked rhetorically, seeking confirmation.

”Well, Ms. Daley also submitted a special application, and she went from ‘body collector’ to ‘psychic’ in only two years, and she once told old Neil that she wanted to be a real psychic. ” Klein explained in detail, “Together with some of the things I experienced at the Divination Club and the corresponding feedback I received, I gradually summarized the ‘Diviner’s Code’ and followed it strictly to try to be a real diviner… …When I did go about doing so, I realized that my progress in mastering magic potions became fast, so fast that I couldn’t even call it mastery ……”

After listening to Klein’s statement, Frye, Seaga, and the others were in deep thought, and Leonard was pretending to think as well.

”I’m going to submit the ‘special application’.” Klein raised the paper in his hand and said, “If you have any questions, you can come back to me privately.”

”Okay.” Frye responded with a seemingly icy nod.

Exiting the rec room, Klein knocked on the door to the captain’s office once more.

He took a seat across from Dunn’s desk and picked up a pen and sealing clay, signing and then fingerprinting.

”Captain, my ‘special request’.” That done, he took the paper in both hands and handed it to Dunn.

Dunn looked it over carefully and put down the application and said:

”I’ll give it to the Sanctuary as soon as I can, so be ready to be examined, maybe next week, maybe the week after that.”

”Okay.” Klein took a breath and nodded solemnly.

He stood up and walked out of the captain’s office, casually flimsily closing the door to his housing.

In the process, he glanced back at his copy of the application, a thought bubbling up in his mind:

I wonder what kind of examination I will receive ……
