A+ A- Turn Off Light

In the evening, Klein, who had just returned from St. Samuel’s Church, was about to enter the second-floor dining room when he saw his butler, Walter, greet him with a respectful salute:

”Sir, the matter you wanted to investigate has been clarified.”

Klein did not ask in front of the surrounding male and female servants, nodding his head stoically:

  ”Go to the study.”

Walter followed him all the way to the third floor and watched as Richardson opened the door to the study and lit the gas wall lamp inside.

Crane walked with unhurried steps to the back of the desk and sat down, looking over at Mr. Butler and waiting for him to speak.

Walter signaled Richardson to stand guard outside the door while he leaned closer to the desk and weighed his words.

When the door to the room closed again, he spoke:

”Ms. Wahana’s husband is a fabric merchant, previously cooperated with someone and invested 1,000 pounds, as a result, the other party ran away with that shipment, she has asked Councilor Macht and Mrs. Liana to please urge the police department to solve the case as soon as possible, however, in this kind of matter, the police department can’t guarantee that they will find the target.”

Klein picked up the black round-bellied fountain pen on the desk and rubbed it down:

”A thousand pounds is not a small amount for Ms. Wahana’s family.”

As far as he knew, a normal governess would earn no more than £150 a year, and less if her employer provided lodging and food.

Although Vahana served the upper classes and had multiple employers, she earned at most four or five hundred pounds a year, and had to spend a large portion of that on her own dress, physique, and appearance, lest her employer deem her insufficiently presentable to teach etiquette.

”Yes, her husband’s income is only moderate for a fabric merchant, and a thousand pounds is quite an investment for him.” Walter said politely.

For me too …… Klein sighed and laughed:

”I’m new to Birkeland, so I’m not familiar with the police department.”

  Valter responded instantly:

”Sir, when I served Viscount Connard, I had acquaintances with a few members of the Bakerland Higher Police Officers Association.”

The Bakerland Senior Police Officers Association? These were the upper echelons of West Villas Field, the Chief Superintendent in charge of a district’s security wasn’t even qualified to enter.

–West Velas Field refers to the Bakerland Police Department, named after the street where it is located.

Worthy of a butler coming out of a noble family …… Klein secretly sighed, smiled and shook his head:

”Not for the time being, there are too many people that Ms. Wahana can seek help from in this regard, whether it’s Councilor Macht, or whoever else, there is enough power to make West Velas Field take this case seriously.”

He paused for a moment, pretending to be offhanded:

”I’ve seen the underbelly of this society and know their laws of survival well, and there are certain times when the police may not work as well as gang members and bounty hunters.

”Walter, you go to the police department and get the appropriate information, go to the Bakerland Bridge area and inside the famous bars in the East End and post bounty missions.

”Whether the appropriate criminals are found or the fabric is recovered, I give a bounty of 200 pounds.

”Oh, I just hope those crooks are still stuck in Birkeland.”

”Two hundred pounds bounty?” Walter repeated the amount and couldn’t help but glance at his employer, as if he couldn’t believe he was willing to pay so much for what happened to Vahana.

He opened his mouth as if to warn of something, but in the end it didn’t come out, only a serious response:

  ”Yes, sir.”

”I’ll give you this money directly.” Klein slowly got up and took out his money clip.

Walter asked thoughtfully as he accepted the thick cash:

  ”Going to tell Ms. Wahana?”

  Klein smiled:

  ”No need.”

Walter nodded his head in a somewhat dazed curtsy and said:

”Your reputation for generosity and zeal will live on in this neighborhood.”

  ……

East End, Dharavi Street, inside a cramped but lively tavern.

Hugh, who had carefully combed her short blonde hair before heading out, squeezed through the area filled with the smell of alcohol and sweat to the bar.

She flexed her fingers and tapped the wooden board, addressing the bartender:

  ”Any new commissions today?”

If it was someone else, asking directly without ordering a drink, the bartender would definitely not have bothered, but after seeing that it was Hugh across the table, a bounty hunter that everyone would rather she didn’t drink, he could only sigh and say:

”There is a commission with a very generous bounty, 200 pounds.”

”Two hundred pounds?” Hugh almost suspected that he had heard it wrong, except for Miss Audrey who had received a mission with a bounty of this level or even higher, she had never encountered a commission that paid this much money in the East End and the Bakerland Bridge area, and even the Aztec Aegis mission that had made the bounty hunters here go crazy before was only 150 pounds.

For an ordinary bounty hunter, just being able to complete this commission would mean not needing to work again for a year!

For Hugh, this is equally important, because she has been helping the mysterious man in the golden mask for the past few months, and initially knew that the other party belongs to MI9, and accumulated merit can be exchanged for the “Inquisitor” magic potion formula.

Therefore, when she helped the other party to do the work, she took very little pay, the vast majority of them have been converted into merit, their own savings rely on becoming a “magistrate” in the search for and pursuit of criminals on the advantage of obtaining.

When I get the magic potion formula, I still have to spend money to buy extraordinary materials, and I only have more than 300 pounds …… Forsyth is right, money is not everything, but enough to be important …… Thinking of this, Hugh looked at the bartender and asked cautiously:

”What kind of commission? Who did the commission?”

”Looking for a few crooks who cheated a thousand pounds worth of fabric.” The bartender took out the information and handed it to Hugh while saying, “The commissioner appears to be a butler, calling himself Walter, serving Mr. Dawn Dantes of Birklund Street, if you can catch the crooks or retrieve the fabric, you can go there to collect the bounty.”

Hugh looked over the information quickly, generating a quick image of the counterPart 1n his mind, and intuiting the direction of the search.

”I’ll take the job.” She looked up instantly.

The bartender shrugged his shoulders and said:

”It’s not just you, all the bounty hunters who’ve been here have taken this mission.

”And they have something else in mind.”

  ”What ideas?” Hugh asked curiously.

  The bartender gave a hey:

”They said that Mr. Dawn Dantes was so generous that if he was still short of bodyguards, they could nominate themselves.

”However, they’ve since given up on the idea because being a bouncer isn’t as free as being a bounty hunter, and even drinking has to wait until their day off.”

This is not a problem for me, but, I can only be a bounty hunter …… Hugh nodded, jumped off the high chair in front of the bar, and walked to the door without wasting any time.

  ……

The next day, Klein finished his lunch and prepared to go for a walk in his garden to cool off.

At that moment, the butler, Walter, came in from outside and followed him quietly until there was no one else around.

”Two things, sir.” He said in a respectful voice.

”Two things?” Klein was slightly surprised, he had thought there would only be one.

  Walter nodded and said:

”Yes, the first matter is about 10% of the shares in the Berkland Pedal Car Company, and there has been a bid of ten thousand pounds.

”Would you like to keep bidding, sir?”

Raised it up to £1,000? Not bad! Crane thought about it in a difficult manner:

”I have just come to Birkeland, and I must refrain from many things.

  ”That’s it, that’s it ……”

”Yes, sir.” Walter turned, “The crook who swindled Ms. Vahana of her husband’s fabric has been caught, and that bounty hunter has come around to request payment.”

”So soon?” Klein looked sideways at Mr. Butler in dismay.

If it was him personally, it was true that he could solve it the same day, after all, he had the “Divining Staff Method” to find the person, but the problem was that the majority of bounty hunters were not soothsayers.

Well, maybe it is an extraordinary person who is good at tracking and searching …… Klein made a preliminary judgment in his heart.

  Walter replied affirmatively:

”Yes, much faster than I expected.

”According to that bounty hunter, she was able to find those crooks by backtracking from the channel where the stolen goods were sold.”

The channel that sold the stolen goods was so easy to account for? It seems to have received an education from Iron Fist ah …… Klein nodded gently:

”What is the name of that bounty hunter? Very capable ah ……”

”She calls herself Hugh.” Walter answered truthfully.

No way …… Klein nearly stumbled, thankfully he had the Joker’s superb balance.

Calming the ripples in his mind with a look of contemplation, he spoke with deliberation:

”Leave that bounty hunter’s contact info, maybe there’s a chance to ask her for help later.”

”Yes, sir.” Walter didn’t think there was anything wrong with Dawn Dantes’ command; a qualified upper-class person always had to have some channels of unofficial ways.

Crane didn’t continue Hugh’s conversation and said with a “hmmm”:

  ”How much money was recovered?”

”The cash on the crooks plus the fabric that hasn’t been sold yet, totaling something like 850 pounds.” Walter seemed to have expected his employer to ask about this and had assessed it in advance.

”Very good.” Klein nodded his head and said, “After giving the bounty hunter her payment, assist her in delivering both the crooks and the loot to the nearest police station.”

  ……

  North District Police Station.

Vahana and her husband Bacchus looked across the street at the Senior Inspector and asked in surprise unison:

  ”Got them back?”

  ”Caught the man?”

The senior inspector responded with a smile:

  ”Yes.”

He told the story of how much cash and how much fabric was left, and heard both Vahana and Bacchus breathe a sigh of relief at the same time.

At 150 pounds of money, they could still afford it, and, with room for appreciation and profit on the remaining fabrics, the overall loss was not too great.

They thanked the officers in quick succession until someone came and asked Bakus to identify the stolen goods and the culprit.

Vahana sat without losing her decorum and smiled at the senior inspector in front of her:

”You have been more efficient than I could have imagined, and I am curious as to how you found the crooks?”

Knowing that the beautiful and elegant lady across the street knew the members of the House of Commons and would be able to figure out the truth sooner or later, that senior inspector answered without hiding anything:

”Actually, it was done by a bounty hunter, she started from the channel of selling the stolen goods and quickly caught the people.”

”And you have posted a bounty?” Vahana seemed to understand the original story.

The senior inspector shook his head:

”We haven’t gotten around to it yet, someone else posted the reward, 200 pounds.”

”Two hundred pounds?” Vahana asked back in surprise.

It was no small sum, even more than her husband’s projected profit from this business.

Seeing the officer’s affirmative answer, Vahana couldn’t help but ask:

  ”Who issued the bounty?”

”That bounty hunter didn’t say, however, she was accompanied by a gentleman dressed as a butler.” The senior inspector briefly described Walter’s appearance.

Vahana vaguely guessed who it was and leaned back slightly, unconsciously whispering:

  ”Two hundred pounds ……”

  ……

In the afternoon, at Senator Macht’s house, Wahana, who had come to teach the other woman’s daughter etiquette, first thanked Mrs. Liana for offering her help.

Liana, who had dark green hair, humbled herself for a few moments and turned to ask:

”Wahana, I heard that you are still serving as Mr. Dawn Dantes’ etiquette teacher, I wonder what kind of person he is?”

  Vahana weighed her words:

”A true gentleman, warm-hearted, generous, kind, cultured, poised, and knows a lot.”

Liana nodded slightly as she listened, turned her head to the high-spirited young girl next to her, and let out a soft laugh:

”It’s a pity that he’s too old, otherwise he would be a good matchmaker.

”Well, I’m going to ask him to come to the ball this weekend.”
