Part 1V THE UNDERDEAD CHAPTER 119 A NEW BUSINESS FOR DAWN DONTAINS
Leonard stared at the portrait of Sherlock Moriarty on the table, while his mind was reproducing the other party’s appearance without glasses and beard.
Although there may be a certain degree of discrepancy between this and the real situation, belonging to the product of speculation plus imagination, but Leonard felt more and more that Sherlock Moriarty looked familiar, very much like a person he once knew.
”How could it be? He was dead a long time ago! Or I buried him myself!” Leonard couldn’t help but shake his head and whispered with a lost smile.
Before his words left his mouth, his expression suddenly froze a little, because the person he remembered was not simple and harbored a great secret:
This person can strangely get rid of the influence of “2-049”, do not need the help of others!
This person used the special features of “2-049” to kill a Sequence 7 extraordinary person, who was just a “soothsayer” who was not good at fighting at that time!
This person summarized the “play method” in a very short time, and was promoted to Sequence 8 at an extraordinary speed!
This person possessed a high sequence of solar field spells, and together with Captain Dunn Smith, who used the sacred ashes, he was able to take down Mego Oss, who was pregnant with the heir of an evil god!
This man’s Sequence 8 extraordinary trait was taken by Ince Zangwill, while Captain Dunn Smith’s Sequence 7 extraordinary trait was left in place!
Perhaps it was not so much that Ince Zangwill had casually taken a copy of the Extraordinary Characteristics that happened to be precipitated, causing the scene to appear to be missing, but rather that there was simply no corresponding thing to take shape! Leonard Mitchell snapped back to his senses and again examined the portrait of Sherlock Moriarty.
After ten seconds or so he spat a name through his teeth:
”Klein Moretti …….”
The more he looked at it, the more he realized that the mysterious detective Sherlock Moriarty looked very much like his former teammate, the hero who saved Tingen, Klein Moretti!
And that’s even with two stark differentiators on both sides, glasses and beards!
Leonard had somehow clenched the ten fingers of his hands so tightly that each knuckle glowed white, and after a while he let out a distinct gasp and picked up the profile of Sherlock Moriarty anew.
This time, with unusual purposefulness, he turned directly to the approximate time of the other’s first arrival at Berkland:
Early September!
And this was not long before Klein Moretti had been buried!
Leonard Mitchell’s turquoise eyes grew darker and darker, and instinctively he continued to scroll backward through the data.
Then he saw a name:
Lanlus!
This was one of the masterminds of the Tingen City Evil God’s Descent incident, and was the main culprit responsible for the deaths of Dunn Smith, Klein Moretti, and the other “night watchmen”.
The second thing that Sherlock Moriarty was recorded in Birkeland was that he went to the Docklands to investigate the serial killings, and happened to come into contact with the hidden identity of Llanerus!
After this, the attempted descent of the “True Creator” was sabotaged, and Lanlus died in the sewers, covered in tarot cards, similar to the style of the subsequent “Grand Theft”, the Black Emperor.
Still haven’t forgotten the damage caused by this swindler …… Leonard muttered silently to himself, his expression eased considerably.
He quickly flipped through the information again, sat on the chair, a long time without movement, as if in the shadows brought by the light to fall asleep.
After several minutes, Leonard finally had a change of posture, he leaned back against the back of the chair and said in a low voice:
”Old man, do you think Sherlock Moriarty, the detective, resembles my teammate, Klein Moretti, from my days in Tingen City?”
Inside his head, the slightly older voice spoke hesitantly:
”The one who joined the ‘Night Watchers’ due to the Antigonus family notes?”
”Yes ……,” Leonard responded in a hushed voice.
The parasite inside him said two seconds apart:
”Somewhat similar.”
Leonard, who had received an answer, became silent once again, and after a long time, he took out his gold-cased pocket watch and snapped it open to look at it, confirming that it was still only morning.
Leonard instantly closed the cover of the watch and stood up so violently that he nearly brought the stack of papers on his desk toppling over.
He reached out in a panic, holding the information in place, and then, leaving a note saying that he’d found a lead and was planning to head out to investigate, and might not be back until late.
Let’s see if someone is impersonating the heroes of Tingen, or if you’ve been wearing a mask all along, a member of a secret organization that has infiltrated the Night Watch, with no more noble intentions than Ince Zangwill, who also has his eye on the items behind the door of Channis …… Leonard no longer looked as careless as usual, his eyes narrowed slightly, and quickly left the underground of St. Samuel’s Church.
……
Outside a very distinctive building in the Hilston district.
Dawn Dantes stepped out of the carriage and saw the house, which was predominantly in the late Quaternary style.
The house, which made extensive use of huge stones, had four floors, and each window on each floor was like a door that corresponded to a small balcony.
The whole of the house was sandy yellow in color due to age, and the stone pillars and arches together supported an elegant porch, which looked quite dignified.
This was the East Baylon Veterans’ Club.
Klein raised his cane, pointed at the building in front of him, and said with a smile:
”It’s very historic.”
Councilman Macht nodded in response:
”It’s actually a replica of an antique building, but it’s over a hundred years old itself ……”
As he spoke, he guided Dawn Dantes into the club, addressing the woman at the front desk:
”Dawn Dantes, unofficial member, I’m the referral.”
When he finished, he turned his head sideways to the rich man and explained:
”Not only have you never served in East Byron, but you’ve never even been involved in the battles that took place there, and you’re not even from a military background, so you can’t become an official member.
”However, even being an unofficial member will allow you to come and go freely from here, use the club’s various facilities, enjoy delicious food and alcoholic beverages, and meet different people.”
”That’s exactly what I was expecting.” Klein nodded with a smile.
Only after the pretty woman with southern continental ancestry had completed her registration did Macht add:
”There is no entry fee, and an annual fee of 60 pounds per year.”
With that, he chuckled:
”It’s not expensive, and it’s even more so for you, here, you have access to all kinds of weapons, there are enough ranges for you to shoot, and you can also learn horsemanship ……”
Sixty pounds really isn’t expensive for a club of this level, mind you, it’s frequented by generals from time to time and boasts a number of reputable chefs …… Crane didn’t say much, taking out his money clip and counting sixty pounds to the receptionist woman, getting a badge with the symbols of the forest, the sea, and the sword.
”This is a place where honor shines, and I have deep admiration for your dedication to East Byron.” While wearing the badge with the numbers on the back, Klein looked to Councilor Macht and said, “If I want to contribute something to this place, who do I go to?”
Councilor Macht pointed to the front desk woman and said:
”Just give it to her.
”She’ll record it and post it on the bulletin board over there.”
Klein nodded gently:
”Okay.”
He whirled around and sidled up to his valet, Richardson, to get out the prepared 500 pounds in cash.
After the donation, Klein followed Councilor Macht through the ornately decorated hall to a sitting room-like room, while his valet Richardson was left outside in the lounge, where there were snacks, black tea, and coffee.
Inside the small room, Klein was introduced by Macht to five either retired or active military officers, and the highest ranking one, apart from a certain member of the House of Commons, was Calvin, who had the shoulder insignia of an army colonel, and who was currently working in the Ministry of Defense of Ruin, in an unspecified position.
And as far as Klein knew, the probability that a quasi-high ranking officer in the military who could have the rank of colonel was an Extraordinary One, most likely belonging to the Middle Sequence!
Macht, Calvin and the others soon chatted idly, Klein didn’t forcefully interject, carefully listening to their exchanges from the sidelines, only occasionally echoing a sentence or two.
In such a loose and leisurely atmosphere, Calvin suddenly turned his head sideways and looked at Dawn Dantes and said:
”I hear you used to move around West Byron?”
This Mr. Colonel had a donkey face, but it was not at all comical, and his gaze was quite deep.
Crane responded with a smile:
”Yes, it was even more chaotic than East Baylon.”
Calvin sniffed and laughed:
”Of course, the Intis have made too many mistakes there.”
He paused and continued to ask:
”How is your relationship with the Intis there?”
Klein didn’t quite understand what the other man was up to and said stiffly:
”It’s okay, they’re all greedy.”
He actually didn’t recognize any of them, and had only heard Anderson mention a few names and corresponding deeds.
Calvin nodded and posed another question:
”Are you familiar with the tribes there, the resistance there?”
”…… Recognize parts of it.” Klein responded vaguely.
There was only one “army leader” he knew from the resistance against Intis, and that was the former Intis royal daughter, the “Mysterious Queen” Bernadette.
Calvin smiled, picked up the red wine and took a sip.
During this process, no one else, including Councilor Macht, spoke.
Putting down the wine glass, Calvin once again looked at Dawn Dantes and said:
”It’s like this, we eliminate a lot of guns and artillery every year, and directly destroying them or doing something else to dispose of them is either too wasteful or too costly to be a good solution.
”I wonder if you’d be interested in purchasing a bunch of them and selling them to West Byron, to the area ruled by the Intis, to the tribes and the rebels?
”Believe me, it’s definitely a very lucrative business, of course, it’s also very dangerous, if you get caught by the Intis in Sibailang, we won’t recognize that you’re serving us.”
This …… This is to make me an arms dealer? This is one of the most lucrative businesses …… Although I’m not familiar with West Byron at all, and I don’t have any connections there, I can sell it to the “Queen of Mysteries” and to the resistance in the Rothschild Archipelago… …Klein’s heart fluttered, and he deliberately showed mixed and conflicting emotions:
”I haven’t done anything like that, but it’s certainly tantalizing enough.”
Calvin chuckled:
”There’s no need to rush to make a decision, this is a very important matter that deserves serious consideration.
”Just get your answer to Macht within the week.”
Klein was secretly relieved and nodded with a smile:
”Okay.”
……
Inside Raphael’s Cemetery, Tingen City.
Although the afternoon sun was quite strong, much of the place was still dark and cold.
Leonard was standing in front of a grave, quietly gazing at the stone.
