Part 2 The Faceless Man Chapter 192 “The Cult”
”Fools?” The Extraordinaires attending Mr. A’s party either chewed on the word to themselves or exchanged pleasantries with their companions about whether or not they had met anyone with similar beliefs.
”When did such a cult appear?” Someone whispered suspiciously.
At this time, Mr. A had the attendant next to him hold up a blackboard with a few lines of words written on it in Ruin:
”Fools not of this age;
”The mysterious lord above the gray mist;
”The yellow and black king who reigns over good fortune.”
As the crowd examined the blackboard, Mr. A. said in a voice so husky as to be rather uncomfortable:
”Don’t read out the above in Hermetic, and even less so in Giant, Elvish, Gargoyle, or Ancient Hermetic, or even write the corresponding descriptions in them, or the odds are that something terrible will happen.
”Help me to find those who believe in the ‘Fool’, of course, they may also follow the ‘mysterious lord above the gray mist’, ‘the yellow and black king who reigns over good fortune ‘, as long as you obtain the slightest clue, tell me immediately, and the reward I will give will be beyond your imagination!”
”This description …… sounds like an extraordinary existence ah, I’ve only seen similar titles in the Seven Gods’ canon!” A certain party member marveled out.
His companion, on the other hand, shook his head:
”Many cults believe in objects with similar descriptions.”
”Really a cult?” Another member of the congregation overheard their discussion and said offhandedly in dismay.
”It should be, in general, the spirit world creatures we summon might also have such a three paragraph description, but one of the paragraphs would inevitably be ‘whoever’s favor’ or something like ‘uniquely belongs to whoever’s what’, it wouldn’t be in this form!” A member of the congregation, well versed in the occult, gave the rationale.
While they were exchanging lively words, Voorhees was almost dumbfounded.
Wasn’t that the name of Mr. Fool? Although it was described in Rune, I’m sure of it without a doubt! Why would Mr. A want to find a follower of Mr. Fool? Is this the intention of the Aurora Society? Forsyth’s mind was reeling.
She knew that Mr. A was a member of the Aurora Society because of the high-profile claim of responsibility by a “terrorist organization” for the assassination of Ambassador Beckland of Intis.
After a brief moment of dismay, Voorhees subconsciously examined herself, fearing that she might be discovered as a member of the Tarot Council, a sort of Fool’s Fellow.
I just read out the name of Mr. Fool in accordance with the ancient Hermetic script on the piece of paper, and then I was pulled into the gray fog, no one knew about it, and there was no fear of investigation……. But the piece of paper with the name of Mr. Fool written on it, it is not a good idea to investigate. “But the paper with Mr. Fool’s name on it has a source, and it is hidden in the books we borrowed from Viscount Greylindt …… Forsyth’s thoughts flashed rapidly.
”The Fool who is not of this age …… Isn’t that the description I read in that paper? I even had a dream of an evil spirit!” At the same time, Hugh also remembered the incident that gave her heart palpitations, but her long experience as a bounty hunter allowed her to reveal nothing out of the ordinary.
Immediately afterward, she followed the trend backward and pondered the paper’s origin:
It was hidden in the compartment of the History of the Nobility of the Kingdom of Ruin …… The History of the Nobility of the Kingdom of Ruin was borrowed by me from Viscount Grelint’s study ……
In a flash, the name of a person flashed within the minds of Forsyth and Hugh at the same time:
”Viscount Grelint!”
And at this time, Viscount Grelint was looking at the blackboard and muttering to himself with interest:
”It’s a rare honorary name.
”But it sounds very impressive!”
As soon as the words were out of his mouth, he glanced suspiciously from side to side, and said to Forsyth and Hugh:
”Why are you looking at me like that?”
”Nothing nothing.” Hugh and Voorhees simultaneously shook their heads at high frequency.
……
After dinner, inside an elegantly decorated house.
Audrey entered the living room with her blonde dog, Suzie, and was led by her psychology teacher, Yslante, to the “academic” gathering that had been scheduled for the previous week.
Her maid, her bodyguard, stayed behind while she and Suzie walked to the spacious living room.
Inside the living room, whether for the sake of atmosphere or for some other reason, a gas wall lamp had not been lit, and the light in the room was provided by a single candle held in several gilded holders on the coffee table and cupboards.
Before Audrey had a chance to take a closer look at her surroundings, she saw a gentleman in his thirties in a gray tuxedo approaching.
”This is the owner of the place, Mr. Stephen Humphreys, furniture merchant.” Icelandt, who had long hair down to her waist, introduced herself.
She was about to speak about Audrey’s identity when Humpreys laughed:
”Yslante, don’t speak, give me a chance to guess.”
With two neatly trimmed moustaches and a pair of attractive dark brown eyes, he appeared very gentle, not like a furniture merchant, but like a university lecturer.
After surveying Audrey carefully for a few moments, he smiled:
”Yslante has only said that you are her student, huh, I think you are a cultivated noble lady, and not the type that is vain, you undoubtedly do not have to worry about the quality of life is reduced ……
”You’re a little excited, you’re curious, you’re relatively simple and caring ……
”And of course, the most obvious thing is that you’re very beautiful, like an angel!”
He joked at last, then pressed his hand to his chest and bent over to bow:
”Welcome, beautiful angel lady.”
You’re right about everything, you’re a member of the “Psychological Alchemy Society”, but you’re observing me as I was a few months ago, as I purposely presented myself …… Audrey spoke up in surprise and consternation:
”Mr. Humpreys, have you known me before?”
She didn’t let the stunned expression linger too long on her face, because similar emotions are in themselves momentary reactions that can’t last long.
Once anyone’s surprise reached several seconds, it was a sign that his performance was most likely feigned.
Audrey didn’t notice this at first, but after observing others “acting” for a long time, she naturally summarized a lot of rules.
”No, I don’t recognize you even now, that’s just the basics of a psychologist. “Humpreys laughed softly.
Before his words had left his mouth, Audrey had already completed her observations and made her judgment accordingly, taking into account her surroundings:
”His dress, the furnishings of his house, show that he is a man who cares much for his own decency ……
”The sapphire on the ring on his left hand does not look small, but in reality it is of average quality and has no symbols or magical markings embedded in it …… He is not as well off financially as he appears to be …… He is very vain ……
”Although he was enthusiastic just now, the way he stood, the pointing of his feet, and the change in his emotional color all indicated that he still had quite a few concerns and was quite guarded ……
”He genuinely complimented me on my looks without looking like a male looking at a female, there were traces of skincare on his face, his eyebrows were definitely drawn, his handiwork was not as good as my make-up maid Solia, but it was better than mine …… The perfume he was wearing was ‘Confusion ‘, which I’ve only seen women use …… Well, it’s supposed to be a man he likes, and he’s playing the relatively weaker side ……”
Meanwhile, Audrey skillfully showed her yearning:
”Mr. Humpreys, I would love to have such powers of observation as yours.”
As she spoke, she held a light smile and was led by Hampress and Yslante to get acquainted with the remaining seven or eight people in the living room.
Some of these dual lovers of the occult and psychology were descended from fallen nobility, some were university associate professors, and some were the children of wealthy men; for example, one young man’s father was none other than the owner of Phillip’s Department Store, the most famous department store in Berkland.
In the following exchange, Audrey basically only listened to the conversation, but also opened her mouth to ask questions, fully expressing her curiosity and desire.
In this “academic” discussion, Yslante, Humpreys and others intentionally mentioned the etheric body and the mental body, mentioned the spiritual world and the collective subconscious, and gave some relatively unique points of view, so that Audrey gradually clarified some of the difficulties that she usually accumulated.
When it was over and she walked out of that house, Audrey glanced at Yslante beside her and asked in a slightly naive manner:
”Mr. Yslante, me, when will I be as good as Mr. Humpreys in the field of psychology?”
Yslante hooked the corners of her mouth, slightly tilted her head sideways, and looked at her:
”Soon.”
……
During the night, Klein, who was about to go under the covers, once again came above the gray mist.
Rather sleepy, he was immediately jolted awake by the news that Ms. Magician had told him.
”The Aurora Council knows about the Fool? Know my honorable name? The ‘True Creator’ has locked onto me?” Klein sat bolt upright, as if on edge.
He quickly dismissed that last theory; if the Real Creator had indeed targeted him, Mr. A. would have been at his door collecting copper pennies from the gas meter, and there might even have been a holy man in tow.
In other words, only the “Fool” and the corresponding honorary name are known, and who leaked the information that the clue was in Birkeland ……? Kerkorian frowned, thinking back carefully.
Soon, he found a possibility:
Recently, the little “sun” recited my name, and in the time of interaction with the members of the exploration team contaminated by the “real Creator” …… he held a sacrifice ceremony, the scene should be “fools”. There should be symbols of the “Fool” and an ancient palace above the gray mist. …… So, the “Real Creator” sensed the presence of the “Fool”. So, the “Real Creator” sensed the presence of the “Fool” and determined that I was the one who had been blaspheming, nay, harassing, nay, spying on K. ……
Also, the little “sun” was using the “eye of total darkness”, which contained the mental pollution of the “real Creator”… …k…and through this, it’s clear that my familiars or followers hang out in Berkland…?
I won’t be able to take the “Eye of Total Darkness” out from now on!
After understanding what the problem was, Klein had another dilemma:
Mr. A in a not too private, relatively open extraordinary gathering to offer a reward to find the “fool” believers, is it really not enough brains, or intentionally “fishing”?
Hey, the Aurora Society is full of paranoid lunatics, and their brains are almost broken, so it’s impossible to speculate on their true intentions!
It’s called, “If I’m crazy, you won’t be able to guess what I’m thinking”?
