Part 2 The Faceless Man Chapter 26: A Party for Each of Us
Well, I don’t need it anymore, but I can give it to Suzie, and I can trade it for other extraordinary materials. …… Well, Suzie’s potion is still missing the spinal fluid from the Falsemane rabbit. …… It’s much easier to leave some things to Suzie than to do them myself. …… Every “great detective” needs a good assistant, hmmmm! Audrey made a quick decision, which was no longer a matter of particular concern to her.
Putting down the telegram, her pleasure sank, and the reality of her troubles came to the fore.
I still owe Mr. “Fool” for the information of the secret society, the mission to assassinate the ambassador of Intis, and a request from his dependents …… I finally know what it feels like to be burdened with a heavy debt… …Audrey, there can be no more delay! Let’s get started! The girl quietly clenched her fists, intending to rummage around for a pen and paper, and write a letter to Viscount Grelint, asking him to arrange for a meeting between herself and Hugh and Forsyth as soon as possible to delegate the matter.
Lifting her fountain pen and dabbing at the ink, Audrey suddenly hung on to her wrist and made no writing.
She had just thought of a very crucial problem, that is, her own knowledge of Ambassador Beckland of Intis was very little, and in this case, it would be very easy to misjudge the difficulty, and either fail to find someone willing to accept the entrustment, or entrust it to an unsuitable object, so that the mission would face failure right at the beginning.
As for the price that would be inflated, it was not her concern, she believed that Mr. Fool’s reward would be better and more helpful.
After pondering for a moment, Audrey turned her head to maid Anne and said:
”Tell Countess Caria that I accept the invitation and will attend her ball on time tomorrow night.”
Carriea was the wife of Count Wolfe, and her upcoming ball had invited ambassadors from various countries in Rouen, including Beckrand Jean Madan.
Audrey had wanted to use her illness as an excuse to put it off, but now she was interested in the ball.
After observing Ambassador Beckrand and gathering enough information, she would meet with Hugh and Forsyth! Audrey suddenly had the excitement of being part of something big and starting a dream career of adventure!
……
The capital of the Rothschild Archipelago, the “City of Generosity”, Bayam.
Returning to the real world, Alger Wilson changed into the slightly ostentatious clothing of the Republic of Intis, entered the alley through the back door of the hotel, and circled around for a few blocks.
He stopped in front of a house with no garden or lawn and pulled out a common white hard-shell mask and put it over his face.
Immediately afterward, he reached out and knocked on the door of the room, three times and two times softly, while the intervals were two long and two short.
After waiting a dozen seconds or so, the door creaked open and some man wrapped in a pirate bandana poked his head out, looking quickly from side to side.
”Come in.” The man said in a deep voice as he stepped out of the way.
Alger didn’t say anything and quietly walked into the house.
Clang!
The door of the room closed with a loud bang.
……
At 15 Minsk Street, Klein opened the curtains and sat down at his desk.
The information given by the “Hanged Man” to the Cistercians made him realize that the target was probably still related to the Republic of Intis, and at the same time, he recalled the “Hanged Man’s” previous description of the Antigonus family, “weird” and “scary”. ” and “scary”.
Last night, the extraordinary person who used the black iron nematode to sneak into my room, peeped at the information and left a warning did behave a bit weird …… The sequence chain mastered by the Antigonus family is exactly the “diviner” path of the Mithraic Order, and the two can be equated. …… In other words, one could make a guess that the Extraordinary last night was a member of the Order doubling as a spy for the Republic of Intis? Or he didn’t belong to the Secret Society, but used the connection between the Republic of Intis and the Secret Society to obtain the corresponding formula and magic potion? Klein began to make bold assumptions and carefully sought proof:
”This could explain my ‘Joker’ premonition not working during the weird iron nematode invasion, which stems from the suppression of me by higher serializers of the same pathway …… Of course, there are also iron black nematodes that didn’t threaten me substantially reasons ……”
”Likewise, it would explain why I had just written up Ian Wright’s intel when an iron-black nematode infiltrated the same night and headed straight for the desk …… The fact that the other party had ‘soothsayer’ abilities would have made things plausible enough ……”
After much repetition, Klein felt that his guess was probably close to the truth.
”If it is indeed a higher Sequencer of the ‘Diviner’ pathway, how many Sequences would he be and what is the name of the magic potion? Being able to manipulate iron-black nematodes, could it be the other giant of the ‘Circus’, the Beast Tamer?” Klein shook his head silently, half in self-deprecation and half in amusement.
Perhaps my subsequent magic potion formula will be obtained …… from him Is this the true meaning that the revelation I obtained from my previous divination is trying to express? Bekrand, it’s really a “place of hope”…… Klein muttered a few words to himself, and began to think about what he should do next:
The task of assassinating the ambassador of Intis, Beckland, and completely eliminating the hidden danger, he had already delegated, he had to avoid suspicion, and he didn’t have the ability to do so.
After leaking Ian Wright’s whereabouts to both parties, he believed that Ambassador Beckrand had no time to retaliate against himself in a short time, and would not add extra trouble.
Finding the very important item he had spoken of was clearly what he was most concerned about and cared about.
”In other words, until that item is found, I’m safe and don’t need to rush to hire powerful Extraordinary Person bodyguards …… Well, even if there is subsequent retaliation, the ambassador won’t be able to hire a High Sequence powerhouse to deal with me, it’s neither economical nor necessary, after all, Beckrand isn’t his home turf ……”
”The biggest possibility is that it will still be given to the extraordinary person who used the iron black nematode to sneak into my room last night, he’s at least Sequence 7, maybe even Sequence 6, Sequence 5, with enough strength and familiarity with the situation …… I’ll just hire a bodyguard according to this standard when the time comes… …Hopefully, the Ambassador will never be able to give the order before then ……” Klein looked out the window at the fog that had finally dissipated, as if in a daze.
He decided to continue to go to the “Brave Bar” tonight, firstly, to use Kaspers to get in touch with other extraordinary people, in order to lay the foundation for choosing the right bodyguard, secondly, to find a chance to sell Merso’s extraordinary characteristics, to gather some money, thirdly, to see if there is anyone selling powerful magical items, in order to improve their own strength, this is never out of date! Plan.
After settling on an idea, Klein put on the appearance of leisurely flipping through the newspaper and waited until it became dark before slowly getting up and making himself a tomato oxtail soup.
Sated, he customarily drew his bedroom curtains, deciding not to open them all tonight.
Then, summoning himself and responding to himself, he transformed into a special spirit body and moved the Aztec copper whistle, the extraordinary properties of Merso, homemade charms, various materials and tarot cards above the gray mist back into the real world, leaving only a handful of items such as the blood-stained standardized contract.
With that done and equipped accordingly, Klein’s strength returned to its peak, once again becoming half an expert in the occult.
Straightening his collar, he grabbed his hat and cane and left 15 Minsk Street.
……
Iron Gate Street, “The Bravehearts Bar”.
Crane, who had exchanged one beer for a message, found Kaspers in one of the card rooms, where he was having a pleasant time playing “Fighting Evil” and betting on one of the boxers outside.
The familiar surroundings reminded Klein of the last time he met Maric who was playing Texas with a dozen or so walkers, and suddenly he was glad he hadn’t brought his Aztec Copper Whistle with him.
If I had brought the copper whistle given by Mr. Aztec at that time, I guess Maric’s dozen of walkers would have mutinied on the spot and hospitably “entertained” me …… I don’t know what kind of expression he would have had on his face… …Klein stood by the door and nodded to Kaspers-Kanlinen.
Kaspers covered the cardboard, burst out, got up and walked to the door, lowering his voice:
”I’ll lead you to a place where the men are not as good as Marich, but they are all quite formidable, and it’s none of my business whether or not I can negotiate a deal, but I must warn you in advance that you must not anger them, or you will probably not see the sun tomorrow, and of course it’s not easy to see the sun in Berkland after September. ”
”Do I need to pay you?” Klein asked sincerely.
Kaspers nodded in satisfaction:
”Two pounds.”
That’s enough to buy a revolver at an arms store …… Although they’ll mark it up to over three pounds, they can basically bargain it down to about two pounds …… Klein grunted and gave Kaspers two one pound bills.
Kaspers turned back to his poker buddies and led Klein, limping towards the kitchen location of the bar, from where he entered the alleyway behind and circled around to a darkly lit house.
He pulled out an iron mask that only covered the upper half of his face and handed it to Klein, smiling softly:
”Consider it your two pound purchase.”
Two pounds I can buy many …… Klein put on the iron mask and deliberately messed up his hair.
Seeing that he was ready, Kaspers knocked rhythmically on the door of the room.
Seven or eight seconds later, a small wooden panel on the door was suddenly pulled open, revealing tan eyes behind it.
After being scrutinized for a while, Klein finally saw the door open backward.
A man in an iron mask stood there and handed Klein a set of robes with a hood, hissing to Kaspers:
”Remember to tell me in advance next time, or else, huh?”
He closed the door, turned, and led Krynn through the darkened parlor and into the sitting room on the first floor.
There, a candle was lit on the coffee table, and its dim, faint glow illuminated the entire room with shadows.
Around the coffee table on the sofa and chairs sat about ten people, all dressed in hooded robes and iron-colored masks.
Slipping on his robes Klein quietly found a corner chair and sat down, hearing a chubby-faced man grumble:
”Recently there have been more packs of wild beasts in the sewers, gnawing away so many of the herbs I planted.”
”They’re smart enough not to touch any of the poisonous ones, I need someone to help me clean it up, and as you know, that’s not my specialty, I’m only good at mixing potions and healing you.”
