Part 2 the faceless man chapter 48 the innermost room
Exiting the room, Klein discreetly placed the cane and the lamp in the same hand, leaving his left palm free, so that in the event of an emergency, he could have first access to the items in his coat pocket on the same side.
There were charms, an Aztec brass whistle, part of a tarot deck, and all of his means of response except for the “all-black eye”, a leftover trait of Rosago’s, which was stored in a separate pocket.
Crane and the bodyguard lady took just one step sideways, and the glow of the horse lamp illuminated the insignia on the gate next to them, a simple baby surrounded by the symbols of wheat, flowers, and springs.
”The sacred emblem of Mother Earth ……,” said Klein, gruff and low.
As a former night watchman, distinguishing between the symbols of other churches was one of the basic skills.
The bouncer lady nodded her head imperceptibly, as if in affirmation.
Her black gothic court dress looked more and more eerie and terrifying in this environment and atmosphere, while her pale face was illuminated by the firelight of the horse lamp as if it were a grudge.
If any other adventurers came here and saw this scene, they would definitely be scared to flee in a mess and stumble.
Klein held his breath, stretched out his left palm, pushed open the stone door with force, and raised the horse lamp.
He realized that the layout was very much the same as the one before, like a perfect blend of a small prayer room and a giant statue.
Crossing the open space covered in wheat-colored flagstones, Klein illuminated the three flights of steps in front of him with his riding lamp.
On top of the steps was a four or five meter tall clean white stone statue, it was a plump and soft lady with ears of wheat growing from the soles of her feet, surrounded by spring water, with a flowing and outwardly swinging dress, inserted with flowers of various herbs and depicted with images of different animals.
The lady’s bosom was high and bulging, and her hands held a lovely baby hidden in swaddling clothes, and the whole was holy and dignified.
”It can’t be a statue of Mother Earth Goddess, right?” Klein whispered with the corners of his mouth slightly hooked.
The bouncer lady did not answer, nor did she deny.
After checking around, the two of them exited this room and opened the third door right next to it.
Beyond this door was a tunnel that could be used by four people to walk parallel to each other, and ahead of them was dark, deep, mysterious, and eerie, leading to nowhere.
”Let’s make sure we know what’s behind the four doors on the right.” Klein proposed.
He didn’t dare go deeper.
Ms. Bodyguard drifted backward, giving her answer by her actions.
The two of them opened the four stone doors on the right in turn, and saw the “Storm Emblem” made up of the symbols of gusty winds and ocean waves, the “Sun Emblem” surrounded by knotted lines, the “God of War Insignia” made up of a combination of the symbols of twilight and the sword symbol, and a book opened with an inscription of the “God of War Insignia”. “and the Emblem of Knowledge and Wisdom, symbolized by an open book and an all-seeing eye.
Correspondingly, inside the room are four statues of suspected deities:
There is a majestic middle-aged man in black armor, treading on the waves of the sea, surrounded by stormy winds, clad in lightning on his back, and holding a trident;
There was the handsome and energetic young man covered in pure white robes, holding the Book of Pacts in one hand and a sun-like golden orb in the other;
There was the warrior perched high on his throne with his longsword pinned in front of him, his face hidden behind his faceplate, his full body armor with an unspeakable sense of disrepair;
There is the old man with his tome and all-seeing eye, wearing a hood that reveals only his mouth, wrinkles and long white beard.
Aside from the God of Steam and Machinery, all six of the orthodox deities have prayer rooms with humanoid statues within this eerie hall!
Considering the weak position of the Church of the God of Steam and Machinery before Rossel’s appearance, there seemed to be some sort of explanation for this problem.
”That’s wicked ……,” Klein exclaimed, half unable to resist and half trying to test Ms. Bodyguard’s reaction.
There were six orthodox deities gathered in such a grand hall that was a hundred meters deep.
This was something unimaginable in the current era!
How could a church of six true gods allow their Lord to be in the same building with other deities!
Is this a custom only found in the ancient Fourth Age? Also, what’s with the human statues? They look normal, not as evil as the statues of the “Original Witch” and the “True Creator”, but it still feels strange… …What on earth happened to make the images of the six deities evolve into the current abstract symbols …… No, maybe they are, but the owner of this place, a great nobleman who is suspected to be a member of the Tudor family, deliberately molded the human statues of the six deities for a certain purpose! …… Hiss, I thought of an item from a novel in a previous life, the six souls …… While waiting for the bodyguard lady to answer, Klein rambled and scattered his thoughts.
Miss Bodyguard did not respond in this regard, fluttering and flatly speaking:
”There is another door.”
Yeah …… Klein suddenly winced a little.
It seemed to him that doors placed in the center often had a special meaning, perhaps the most central area of this ancient building.
Of course, that mostly meant the most dangerous as well.
”What’s your intuition there?” Klein hesitated for two seconds and asked directly.
Without using the gray mist to exclude interference, he felt that Miss Bodyguard’s inspiration and spiritual intuition was more reliable than his own current level of divination, after all, the other party’s state was very special, close to a spiritual body, and she could communicate with the spirit world without any obstacles to get revelations.
Miss Bodyguard closed her eyes and took a few seconds before answering:
”It’s dangerous.”
”But that danger is bound.”
”Do not move any items hastily after going deeper.”
The danger of being restrained …… Couldn’t this be equated to something being sealed inside? Klein made a guess and went piece by piece with the bodyguard lady to the central stone door and stepped onto the deep black floor.
The firelight of the horse lamp seemed to fade a little, very hard to banish the darkness ahead, and Klein had tucked his left hand into his coat pocket, holding the Aztec copper whistle and a couple of charms.
After about thirty paces, Miss Bodyguard paused abruptly.
Klein raised his right hand’s horse lantern and realized that the front was blocked by boulders and dirt.
There was a stone door of the same shape as the hall on the left and right sides, and the right side was half-open and filled with mud and stones.
”Maybe this old building was at ground level in the first place, and then somehow it sank into the ground and collapsed somewhat.” Klein grunted, “There’s only one direction left for us to choose ……”
Before he could say anything, he saw Miss Bodyguard float ahead, stick to the boulder, melt into it, and disappear.
The corner of Klein’s mouth twitched and he began to wait patiently.
After a few minutes, Miss Bodyguard emerged from the dirt on the right side without a speck of dust on her.
”Total collapse.” She gave her conclusion with a flat expression.
For a moment, Klein was speechless and could only smile.
Then, the two of them looked at the same time at the stone door on the left that was not completely closed, leaving a gap.
Klein approached over and carefully looked inside through that gap of about 3 centimeters.
The psychic vision that was previously blocked by the stone door was instantly discovered:
Inside flickered at least four clusters of intense, dazzling spiritual light, two of which were close to the color of dark gold, and two of which were as deep blue as the sea.
After the psychic vision, a “narrow” scene followed in Klein’s normal vision:
The firelight that penetrated the room reflected a black stone slab, on top of which there were piles of white bones covered with rotting clothes, a few of which had dark gold and deep blue glowing through them.
Extraordinary properties of coalescence? Magical items? In a flash of thought, Klein swept to the end of the room.
There, towering over the dark-colored walls, was a pair of large doors.
A bloody folio door!
Fresh blood seemed to remain on this door, and they reflected the firelight as they slid downward.
Klein had originally planned to let Miss Bodyguard explore the way, when he suddenly felt a change in the Aztec copper whistle held in his palm!
The original cold and soft touch pierced the bones all of a sudden, deep and dead!
This …… Klein narrowed his eyes and instinctively took a step back.
Immediately after, he realized that his right lower arm was numb and itchy and began to bulge.
With a flash of images within his mind, Klein immediately pulled out a tarot card with his left hand and brushed it to cut a wound on his right lower arm.
What gushed out within that wound was not blood, but a wriggling, tiny black worm!
Zi!
These black worms fell to the ground and corroded out bits of smoke.
They struggled and clumped together, but eventually dissolved into the firelight of the horse lamp.
After a few seconds, the strip of black worms at Klein’s wound finally finished flowing and began to overflow with a ruddy color.
He wriggled his muscles, controlling the modest wound and not letting the blood escape.
Ms. Bodyguard quietly watched the scene, her nice eyebrows rarely furrowed.
Klein was just about to speak when he realized that the cold and dead silence of Aztec Copper Whistle had not abated.
At the same time, his eyes swept over Miss Bodyguard’s shadow.
She originally had no shadow!
”Run!” Klein shouted lowly and instantly ran towards the hall location.
Miss Bodyguard quickly drifted up, and the two saw the firelight of the horse lamp in front of them gradually engulfed by a black shadow.
Stomp!
Klein powered up and ran like a hurricane in the increasingly dim light around him.
Stomp!
The black shadow was getting bigger and bigger, getting closer and closer, getting thicker and thicker, the firelight was about to be completely engulfed, and at that moment, the gate was still several meters away.
At this moment, Klein based on instinct, violently closed the body forward pouncing, immediately after a roll, over the stone door.
The light of the fire was steeply bright, the uneasiness in his heart instantly dissipated, and the Aztec copper whistle in his palm also returned to its soft and cold touch.
Miss Bodyguard floated beside him, looking back at the tunnel that had fallen back into deepness and darkness, and said with a tone of uncertainty in her voice:
”Evil spirits ……”
Evil spirits? Klein nearly sucked in his breath at the sound of that, luckily the Joker was very good at controlling his own expressions and reactions.
In the field of occultism, evil spirits were very scary and terrifying monsters, and the best of them could even be equated with high sequence powerhouses!
Evil spirits wandering around an ancient building? Evil spirits that for some reason are restrained or bound within that room? Well …… if it’s really an evil spirit, it can explain why Mr. Aztec’s copper whistle reacted, and evil spirits are also considered a kind of undead creatures …… Klein stood up straight and similarly looked at the tunnel that was flooded with darkness, only to feel that there seemed to be a pair of ice-cold eyes inside that were staring at himself!
