Part 2 The Faceless Man Chapter 73 A Mocking Smile
Up in the bell tower of the East Byron Dockyard, wearing a clown mask and hidden in the deep darkness, Klein had been quietly gazing at the Dockworkers’ Association’s quarters and at the blimp hovering above it.
He could not see the exact course of the battle, much less know how far the action inside the small brick-red building had progressed, and could only force himself to endure, judging whether the situation was good or bad from the changes in the scene around him, and from the occasional black dots that passed by.
Just then he saw one of the gas streetlights in that area go out with a bang.
All of them went out!
It became pitch black!
Immediately after that, a feeling that impressed him to the extreme erupted outward from within the small brick-red building, and even from a long distance away, Klein couldn’t help but shudder, his legs weakened, and his back bent down.
That was the feeling of overlooking and crushing the living beings from the essence.
That is the feeling of not being able to fight against not being able to face!
No, not being able to look directly at God …… In a trance, Klein seemed to have returned to the beginning, back to the hall of the Blackthorn Security Company, as if he was opening his spiritual vision, trying to peep into the spiritual state of Mei Gao’ous, peeping into the baby in her stomach.
That feeling was exactly the same as now!
No, it was even more extreme and terrifying now!
How could this be? Didn’t Llanëus only have a little bit of the “True Creator’s” gift of divinity? At most, he could have added one or two other items! How could it smell like an evil god was coming?
Before Klein could get rid of the trembling of his body and the derailment of his thoughts, he suddenly felt a deep, serene, and profound blackness engulfing the previously unseen, unseen, and uncontradicted flavor.
Both died out at the same time, and one after another the surrounding gas street lamps jumped out again with a still-bright fire, and the airships that could not stop falling a moment ago refloated.
All of it, all of it, was back to the way it had been at the beginning, seemingly unchanged.
But Klein didn’t think so, he stood up straight with force, understanding that something vital had happened inside the small brick-red building.
There is no longer the feeling that the essence and level are beyond the extraordinary, there is no longer the taste of the evil god descends, which means that the “real Creator”, or Lanlus’ plan failed ……, but the side of the night watchman should also have suffered a serious blow, may not still have the strength! …… At this time, Klein’s heart moved, busy unclasping the spirit pendulum in the left wrist cuff, holding it in one hand, and said in a low voice:
”The current Lanlus is no longer dangerous.”
After repeating it seven times quickly, he opened his eyes and saw that the citrine pendant was doing a counterclockwise rotation, but not at a fast speed and not by much.
This indicated that Lanlus was still dangerous now, but to a considerably lesser degree.
Klein was more concerned about something else:
The divination didn’t fail again!
This indicates that Lanlus has been separated from the divinity given by the “True Creator”, there is an essential separation!
A cold wind blew through his bones, and Kraven shivered, feeling as if an electric current had instantly entered his mind from the soles of his feet.
Perhaps, I can do something about this! Such a thought flashed through him violently, and without further hesitation, he took four steps against the grain at the top of the dark bell tower and entered above the gray mist.
He wasted no time, and sat straight down, materializing a tawny parchment, materializing a divination statement:
”Lanlus’ escape path.”
Krynn leaned back and flew into a deep dream as he meditated.
In that unreal, branched, misty world, he saw ditches flowing with sewage, dim, dirty passages, and a metal pipe with a hint of rust.
There it was confined, closed.
There was the sewer!
Klein awoke with a start and instantly covered himself with spirituality and fell within the gray mist.
He had just returned to the real world and immediately took a few steps back to the side of the clock tower that had its back to the airship.
Without taking the coiled staircase, Klein directly flipped out of the dark yellow fence, and with the help of the platforms, bumps, and decorations on the surface of the building, he jumped down one floor at a time, his body balanced as if he were walking on the ground.
It took only a short time for his feet to hit the thick stone floor of the street.
……
Inside the small brick-red building, the two red-gloved night watchmen collapsed by the door, unconscious, and the ancient silver-plated mirror rolled to the corner, but no longer had the slightest special features, and could not be seen at all as a “1” level seal.
But it could be clearly felt that it was recovering little by little.
Cresta Sessima was kneeling on one knee at the crossroads, and a line of liquid that looked like blood or tears was sliding down from the corner of each eye.
His short, golden-brown hair drooped feebly, and the collar of his erect trench coat and shirt had become ragged, revealing his sharper chin and thin, rigid mouth.
Constantly gasping for breath, a half-imaginary, half-transparent face with a distorted countenance emerged from each of his teeth.
Cesima’s red-gloved left palm supported the ground as he himself straightened his neck with difficulty and looked ahead.
Directly in front of him were the steps leading to the second floor, and atop them stood Lanlus with his linen shirt completely open.
Lanlus stood straight up, the pure white, moist, holy bone sword stuck between his chest and stomach.
The flesh and blood that had no skin and had outlined the upside-down hanging silhouette had all disappeared at that moment, leaving a void.
Vaguely, it was even possible to see Llanerus’ back from his front through this hollow.
Llanerus moved with great difficulty, and suddenly laughed loudly and crazily:
”Ha, ha, ha, thank you all!”
”I do thank you all!”
”Truly, look into my sincere eyes, I do thank you all!”
”If you guys hadn’t realized and arrived in time, in a few more months, I would have truly become a carrier of the ‘True Creator’s’ descent, and at that time, what’s the difference between my state and being dead?”
Sessima froze visibly as he listened, unable to believe that the guy whose biggest dependency he had fought to destroy was that happy at this moment.
He wanted to stand, but couldn’t, and wanted to resist, but was powerless to do so.
Lanius saw his confusion and coughed and laughed:
”You know what? For a man like me, it’s the saddest thing to have no one to share it with after you’ve done something big that you’re very proud of.”
”Ahem, I was tricked by the ‘Real Creator’ when I was in Tingen City, and not only did K return by creating an heir, but he also covertly planted a ‘sapling’ inside my body.”
”No, I even think that Megoos’s child was just a front for k. k didn’t even ask the members of the Aurora Society to protect her, to draw attention away from her, and k seemed to know from the beginning that this whole thing was going to fail.”
”k’s true descent was laid out in me, the divinity that k bestowed upon me suddenly bonded with the ‘sapling’ inside of me upon my arrival in Berkland, haha, can you imagine? I’m being replaced bit by bit, by k bit by bit! When the end comes, I will become the ‘Real Creator’.”
”Before I could figure out a way to do that, the people from the Aurora Society found it based on the sensation of divinity… Luckily, they’re all simple-minded lunatics… Haha, there’s always so many stupid people.”
Cough cough cough! Lanlus spat out a mouthful of bruised blood and seemed to have regained some mobility.
He took a hard step forward, his angular face suddenly softened for some reason, resembling the original even more.
Lanlus reached out and pressed his palm against the handrail of the staircase, laughing with mockery:
”Fortunately, for the Real Creator to descend completely, to replace me entirely, he would need a great deal of pessimism, despair, numbness, resentment, and primal evil, and only Berkland, only the East End, the Factory District plus the Docklands, can fulfill his requirements, which gives me the opportunity to do so, and the chance to make contact with the others.”
”I knew that it would be unrealistic to alert the police simply through the people I came into contact with, because the people I came into contact with were probably also members of the Aurora Society.”
”I started out trying to instigate a strike to get the police department to notice me, but I was warned and tortured by the Aurora Society and had to end it in a hurry.”
”I pretended to be a bit out of control and got the chance to go to the sewers to vent, in the process I covertly contaminated some of the creatures living there with my blood, turning them into vicious mutated monsters, unfortunately, before you guys took this time to check over here, this matter was discovered by the Aurora Society again, and it seems that some of their members died at the hands of the mutated monsters, oops, I now have no anymore divinity, without the ‘sapling’, the blood no longer has such an effect.”
”After that, I was controlled even more tightly, but I still found an opportunity to kill a prostitute, in the most brutal way possible, trying to get the attention of the police, who knew that the Aurora Society people would disguise the case as part of a serial murder case, and I still couldn’t wait for the rescue.”
”I didn’t have a similar chance anymore, I could only switch to a more subtle method, I took the initiative to ask the most vicious, craziest, and most radical Aurora Club members to watch over me, and it was just what they had in mind, hehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehe, couldn’t they use their brains to think about it? This kind of lunatic can cause trouble anytime, and sure enough, here you are!”
Whew …… At this point, Lanlus exhaled and moved his body, seeming to have finally gotten rid of the lingering effects.
He drew out the holy bone sword that was stuck between his chest and abdomen, and said regretfully:
”What a pity that I can’t take it with me, or else I would have been targeted and found by you soon.”
After that pure white bone sword completely left his body, the exaggerated wound didn’t leave a single drop of blood, and the disappeared part didn’t seem to belong to Lanlus.
Lanlus pressed his right hand to his chest and saluted Cresta Sesima and the others:
”The people on the blimp outside should be recovering soon, I can’t stay any longer.”
”Thank you all, from the bottom of my heart.”
”As stupid as you guys are, you helped me after all.”
”For you stupid guys, it’s your honor.”
With that, he straightened his body and said with a smile full of mockery:
”Farewell, stupid night watchmen.”
”Send me off with your lives.”
Gripping the holy bone sword, he jerked forward a few steps and attempted to stab Cresta Sessima.
But at this time, his eyelids began to become heavy and heavy, and his entire body just wanted to fall down and sleep.
”So you still have some power, this is troublesome ……” Lanlus bit his tongue lightly and suddenly threw the Holy Bone Sword in his hand, casting it at the unconscious night watchman by the door!
”No!”
Sessima swung her hand with a good deal of pent up strength, causing the invisible thing to deflect the Sacred Bone Sword.
Seizing the opportunity, Lanius stomped to the side and tumbled out of the small, brick-red building through the position of the lavatory window at the end of the hallway.
Immediately afterward, he messed with the manhole cover on the street and climbed the sharp drop into the sewer.
Llanerus seemed to know the area well enough to run, jump, and turn, even in the pitch blackness around him, and fled quickly toward the depths of the labyrinthine sewers.
Suddenly, he instinctively stopped and leaned back.
Poof!
A cardboard card plunged deep into his right chest, blood rapidly dripping down from the edge.
Lanlus looked up and saw his attacker with the help of his own dark vision.
It was a medium-sized man in a laborer’s uniform, his face a mask with the corners of his mouth high and his nose red.
It was a jolly clown.
