A+ A- Turn Off Light

Inside the unlit sewer, Klein wiped his neck and turned his attention back to the cracked head and headless body of Lanlus, and to the two tarot cards stuck in the eyes of the other man.

He had wanted to take back all the “flying daggers” he had thrown out and erase the corresponding clues, but he realized a very real and serious problem.

That is, he did not have dark vision.

He was able to frantically rush through the pitch-black sewers and fight fiercely with Lanlus, relying on his spiritual vision!

He could see the colors of Lanlus’ aura, see the spiritual light of all kinds of creatures, and vaguely grasp where they were “illuminated”, and use that to discern the path.

Unfortunately, the tarot cards he was using now were not the ones that had originated from the Nightwatchman’s Squad, and they had no spiritual silver patterns, and were plain and featureless.

In such an environment, Klein could distinguish the outlines of things in a very small area around him with the help of his own aura color and spiritual glow, but there was no way to see the cards stuck on the wall and ground and scattered all over the place while separated by a distance – just now, he and Llanerus fought furiously all the way to the ground, and were not confined to a certain place.

Of course, he believed that as long as he was given enough time, retrieving all the thrown tarot cards wasn’t too tough, but the point of the matter was that the night watchmen who were chasing Lanlus and those military personnel on the airships might be arriving in the next minute!

Can’t afford to be careless in that regard …… I’ve been wearing gloves …… This tarot deck was again purchased before I came to Berklund, and is part of the national standardization model …… I’m usually largely unused to it …… Even if I carry it with me, most of the time it is placed together with Mr. Aztec’s copper whistle …… No matter what methods are used, it is very difficult to locate me through them, and at most, I can use it to restore part of the battle scene, and I have a mask on my face and my shoes have padded heights …… Various thoughts flashed instantly, and Klein quickly came to a decision.

He turned to Lanlus’ headless body, squatted down, and probed his black gloved right palm, quickly searching for the items left on the other party.

–Kraven had no idea of performing the séance ceremony, for one thing, the feeling of the evil god-like descent before had impressed him too much to blindly séance Lanlus’ spirit unless it was brought above the Gray Mist, and secondly, with the night watchmen and the military personnel likely to arrive at any moment, he didn’t feel that there was enough time for him to be able to set up the ceremony, summon himself and respond to himself, and then go above the gray mist to channel the spirit.

It’s time to give up …… Klein muttered silently to himself and withdrew his hand from Lanlus’ body.

The crazed swindler had fled in what seemed like a great hurry, with no cash, no materials, no charms, and only an eyeball-sized medallion kept close to his body, with a light, thin spiritual glow glowing silently on it.

Not fearing that the item could be located, as he intended to drop it above the gray mist later and study it slowly, Krynn stood up straight as he slipped the badge into his coat pocket.

He gazed at the body of Lanlus, not bothering to wait for the extraordinary properties to analyze, and with his black-gloved left palm, he took out the remaining tarot cards.

Immediately afterward, he straightened his left arm so that his palm was directly above Lanlus’ corpse.

With a huff, Klein released his palm and let the single tarot card fall with a clatter, leafing over the headless corpse, some of them face up with pictures and numbers painted on their surfaces, others with dark red backs and hidden patterns.

With that done, Klein pulled out his Aztec copper whistle and tossed it a few more times before running headlong into the depths of the sewers.

After almost two minutes, a group of silhouettes finally found the place, some of them were wearing thick black trench coats, while others were in a well-designed and well-cut military-like uniform.

At the head of the group was Krystai Sesima, carrying a pure white bone sword, his red gloves stained with dust and his stoic face showing obvious exhaustion and weakness.

They stopped a few meters away from the body, and with the help of their dark vision saw the body of Lanlus and the head located by the wall.

Two tarot cards were stuck in the head, one reading “Emperor” and the other “Wheel of Fortune”.

The surface of the headless body was covered with more cards depicting “The Chariot of the Victorious”, “The Hermit with Robe and Lamp”, “The Grim Reaper on White Horse and Armor”, and many more. “, and more chalice figures, scepter figures, etc..

On the walls and floors around them, tarot cards such as “The Devil,” “The Sun,” and “The Judgment” were also inserted or lying on the ground.

It all looked like the scene of some bizarre ritual, and Lanlus belonged to the doomed sacrifice.

Cresta Sessima inhaled noisily, his brow furrowing, while the extraordinary people around him were briefly distracted by the frightening and mysterious image in the dark environment.

  ……

Once away from the scene of Lanlus’s death, Klein quickly found an exit to leave, ripping off his clown mask and walking briskly towards the East End in the shadow of the gas streetlights.

And before that, he had dealt with the stains on the soles of his shoes.

It wasn’t until he entered the East End and reached Black Palm Street that he breathed a small sigh of relief, and then performed a quick ritual of summoning himself and responding to himself in the one-bedroom house he was renting.

In his spirit state, Klein carried the full set of clothes he had worn tonight, the remaining charms, herbs, and essential oils, along with the badge he had gotten from Lanlus, above the gray mist, and burned off the appropriate clues with a psychic flame.

Hoo…… he exhaled, finally having a free moment to look at what the badge he had gotten from Lanlus looked like.

The badge was the size of an eyeball, with the symbols of Fate and Concealment painted and engraved on the front, and a tight, tiny circle of ancient Hermetic inscriptions on the back:

  ”Hold this to join.”

What did it mean? Lanlus was still a member of some hidden organization? Kraven rubbed the corner of his forehead and, physically and mentally exhausted and the timing wasn’t right, decisively gave up on his research, intending to figure it out after the Tarot Gathering.

He quickly left this mysterious space above the gray mist and changed into another set of clothes, removing the disguise he had made earlier.

However, he didn’t rush back to Minsk Street, intending to sleep until the next morning, this was because moving on the street after midnight itself would easily attract probes, and there had just been that one incident.

Lying down to his bed, Klein looked out of the window at the moonlight closing in on the night, and his mind gradually settled down.

After completing his initial revenge, he felt that he had removed a great burden and thrown away a lot of repression, and his mental state was significantly better than in the previous period of time.

”Both Ince Zangwill and the sealing object ‘0-08’ are not something that the current me can cope with, and the gap is very large, only by becoming a high sequence powerhouse, a half-god, half-human type of existence, will I be qualified to get involved in this matter… …Before promoting to Sequence 4, I’ll pretend they don’t exist ……”

”Well, my goal for a long time to come is to try to improve myself, I’ve now thoroughly digested the ‘Joker’ magic potion, and when the extraordinary materials are gathered, I’ll be able to be promoted to ‘Magician’. ”

”After that there’s ‘Faceless Man’, ‘Secret Puppet Master’, and the corresponding Sequence 4 whose name I don’t know yet.”

”Other than that, be a normal detective.”

Klein’s mind was at peace, his thoughts fanned out as he thought about the arrangements for the next period of time, no longer so impatient, no longer so depressing.

The corners of his mouth turned up slightly at the thought, and he muttered silently to himself:

”Captain, Benson, Melissa, you should prefer to see me as I am now ……”

  ……

At the dawn of the day, a group of people wearing surgical caps and white masks, dressed as doctors, came to the entrance of the Dockworkers’ Association’s dormitory.

The older man at the head, who looked experienced at first glance, said to the confused and bewildered occupants:

”A contagious disease has been discovered in your house, and a man named Kevin has already passed away as a result.”

”We will provide free treatment. There is a special medicine for this contagious disease, and as long as you take it in time, you will be fine.”

”Kevin?” One of the residents uttered a shocked voice and looked left and right for the colleague called Kevin, but nothing was found.

  That was Lanlus’ alias.

Seeing that the charitable medical organization was accompanied by a policeman they knew, the residents were no longer suspicious and began to line up apprehensively to receive their medication.

The first one was a middle-aged man with a big beard, who asked questions nervously, fearing that a bottle of medicine would not be able to fight the virulent infection.

It was only when the doctors showed impatience that he leaned back and drank the bottle of azure-colored potent medicine.

Then he was helped to the side and put his mouth to a hole only the same size.

  Vomit! Vomit! Vomit!

The man suddenly retched and vomited violently, throwing up a sour, bloody mess.

He was trying to half brace himself to move his eyesight to see what he had thrown up when he was forced out of the way by two powerful nurses.

The mouth-sized hole was located on an iron-black metal barrel, the bottom of which was dim and deep and barely lit.

And right there, lying still, was a puddle of yellowish-green liquid, and in the center of the liquid was a small piece of blood-colored flesh, which was covered with fine black hairs!

  Vomit! Vomit! Vomit!

One resident dropped the potion and vomited painfully in front of different metal buckets.

  ……

Queens, inside the luxurious villa of Earl Hall’s family.

”Why did you suddenly come to visit so early?” Audrey looked at the sky outside, and then looked at Viscount Greylint in front of her and said.

Grelint looked around and only found a big golden-haired dog squatting next to him, so he lowered his voice and said:

”I was planning to go to the racecourse, but I ended up meeting Conce on the way, and he told me something very interesting, really interesting, and I thought I would just pass by here, so I came over to share it with you.”

”What is it?” Audrey asked with interest.

Grelint answered without bothering to pay attention to the wording:

”You’ve heard of the Aurora Society, I assume? The same Aurora Council that assassinated Ambassador Intis, they were caught with several key members dead, and a very large plot failed as a result.”

I thought it was something involving the divinity of the “True Creator”, Hugh and the others had someone inform them yesterday evening, and they were on the move during the night. …… Wait a minute, it seems that the Aurora Society worships the “True Creator”! The Aurora Club seems to worship the “Real Creator”! Audrey’s eyes lit up and haughtily pursued the question:

  ”What scheme?”

”I don’t know, Cons wouldn’t say, he only told me that the person in charge of this plot is a former wanted swindler, a swindler called Lanlus.” Grelint spread his right palm.

Sure enough …… Audrey nodded her head imperceptibly, and asked without concealing her own curiosity:

  ”Has he been caught?”

”He’s dead, but not at the hands of our people.” Grelint said after a moment, “That’s what I mean by very interesting, his body was found covered in many, many tarot cards and surrounded by them, imagine the scene ……”

Tarot cards? A corpse covered in many tarot cards? Audrey was stunned for a moment and then realized:

This is what we do at the Tarot Club!

It was made by Mr. Fool’s family!
