Part 2 the faceless man chapter 76 speculation and investigation
Audrey, who thought she knew the truth, couldn’t help but visualize the scene described by Viscount Grayling:
Llanëus fell in the darkness, in the mud, covered with tarot card after tarot card, “The Fool”, “Justice”, “The Hanged Man”, “The Sun”, “The Fool”, “The Fool”, “The Sun”, “The Sun”, “The Sun”, “The Sun”, “The Sun”, “The Sun”, “The Sun”, “The Sun”, “The Fool”. “The Sun”, “The World”, other major cards, and numerous numbered cards, some of them reversed, some of them positive, and some of them not yet turned over, but only showing their backs, as if they were in the middle of a big, weird tarot reading.
It must have been a very powerful image!
I wonder where the “Justice” card will fall ……
What will the extraordinary people of MI9 and the Church think of this? Will they think there’s a new secret organization out there?
Llanerus, with the divinity of the “True Creator”, he and the Aurora Society were planning something that would not be small, and if successful, would have brought terrible disaster to Birkeland and the Kingdom, and such a plan was so easily and so plainly aborted by a simple order from Mr. “Fool”, and by a simple order from Mr. “Fool”. “by a simple task issued by Mr. Fool.
Is this a game at the level of the gods?
”Mr. Fool and the Real Creator are mortal enemies?
No wonder Mr. Fool calls his opponent “The Fallen Creator”. ……
……
One thought after another flashed rapidly, Audrey’s body vaguely shuddered imperceptibly.
”What are you thinking?” Viscount Grelint, who was sitting on the opposite side of the table, finally couldn’t hold back and opened his mouth suspiciously.
Audrey snapped back to her senses and laughed with a slightly crooked head:
”Wasn’t it you who told me to visualize the scene of a corpse covered in tarot cards?”
”Haha.” Grelint laughed awkwardly and turned to exclaim, “I also don’t know which member of the hidden organization killed Lanlus, it really matches my imagination of similar things, it’s so, so cool!”
It was us, the Tarot Society! Audrey replied wordlessly, smiling lightly:
”Maybe it’s the Powerful Extraordinaires who have no organization and act alone?”
”In any case, I like the style! Why don’t you prod Hugh and Forsyth and ask them when my ‘apothecary’ formula will be available?” Grelint said rather excitedly.
Audrey’s eyes widened slightly, and looking round, she lowered her voice:
”Quiet, keep your voice down.”
”How can you talk about the magic potion formula here?”
Greylint smiled without much concern, “Don’t worry, it’s nothing, I’ve just confirmed that there’s only one dog here besides you and me.”
Susie, the big golden furred dog, unconsciously changed her sitting position.
……
Inside a room underneath the ground of St. Samuel’s Church, Birkeland North.
Dressed in a black hooded robe, wearing blue eyeshadow and blush, revealing a demonic cold beauty, Dai Li casually found a seat and sat down, picking up the documents on the table.
She swept a glance over it, her gaze suddenly froze, and then her brows furrowed as she asked with something suppressed:
”Lanlus?”
”Why didn’t I know about this?”
”Why was I not informed of last night’s action?”
Krystai Sesima, who was seated in the main seat and had re-tucked his chin and lips into the vertical collar of his coat, spoke in a low voice:
”I was worried that you would not be able to control your emotions, which would cause unnecessary pitfalls to the operation, so I didn’t have anyone tell you.”
”I do understand your feelings, there is a Nightwatchman in Tingen’s squad who is being instructed and trained at the Sanctuary in preparation for joining the ‘Red Gloves’, and he is performing in a similar manner to you, but as the head of the operation, and as the Senior Deacon of the Nightwatchman, I have to keep instability out of the equation. ”
Daley glanced at the other Nightwatchman squad leaders and deacons that had been summoned and chortled:
”What makes you think I would be unable to control my emotions? I’m calm, I don’t get impulsive!”
”My anger will only flare up after Llanerus has been captured! This is the professionalism of a senior night watchman, a deacon!”
”If I catch Lanlus, I’ll make him realize that men are vulnerable too! I’d have a cold, rotting but stiff corpse behind his ass, I’d have a white bone full of barbs and stench in front of his body, and I’d have those grimy little buggers going in and out of every place on his body that they could!”
”Damn! You guys just let him die!”
Krystai Sesima looked calmly at Daley, listening to her words in silence before sighing:
”How long have you endured this?”
Dai Li was stunned for a moment, suddenly whispering in frustration like a deflated balloon:
”A long time ……”
Cesima withdrew her gaze and looked to the other deacons and squad leaders:
”What’s the takeaway?”
”We initially confirmed that the person who killed Lanlus was a member of the Secret Society, ranked at Sequence 8, magic potion name Joker, and specialized in making flying daggers out of paper cards.” A deacon reported truthfully, “However, we can’t be sure of this guess, the tarot cards sprinkled on the corpse don’t look like they’re hiding something, after all, that extraordinary person didn’t deal with the cards inserted on the wall and Llanerus’s head at the same time, and we all agree that the last scene is closer to some kind of ritual or symbol, so we suspect that that extraordinary person maybe belongs to an organization that we don’t yet understand, and of course, that scene could have been a special personal habit of his.”
Cecima nodded slightly:
”We can start with that aspect and conduct a follow-up investigation.”
”Al, what did you find out from the investigation of the informant?”
Al Hassan, who had a very middle-aged man’s charm, flipped the paper in his hand and said:
”We investigated the whistleblower and found that his actions stemmed from the direction of a bounty hunter.”
”In the course of searching for the wanted criminal Lanlus, that bounty hunter’s companion was killed by a member of the Aurora Society, and she secretly conducted investigations in order to take revenge, eventually locking up her target at the Workers’ Union Tavern in the East Byron Dockyards, and based on her target’s movements, she found Lanlus.”
”Her actions were basically confirmed side by side by witnesses, there was nothing strange about them, and we confirmed at the same time, using transcendental means, that she lacked a connection to the person who killed Lanlus.”
”She’s hiding now, and will be hard to find.”
Sesima added as if in thought:
”It fits Lanlus’ description of a radicalized and insane Aurora Society member being an aid to him getting out of trouble.”
”Is there a problem with that reporter who went to the Workers’ Association that afternoon for an interview?”
Another Night Watchman squad leader reported:
”He’s a fake reporter, information passed on from the police department suggests that he’s actually a private investigator who was previously helping reporter Mike Joseph of the Daily Observer with his investigation into Hibbel’s murder, and we’re guessing that he got some kind of lead that led to the Dockers’ Union, and approached everyone suspected of the murderer in disguise. ”
”That suspicion has been confirmed by Eisinger Stanton.”
Cesima hmmm’d, and turned to the others who had recently contacted Llanerus, receiving no questions in succession.
Toward the end, he said with deliberation:
”The lack of sufficient motive for Lanlus’ murder is very confusing to me, and that mysterious murderer is cause for concern, so you continue to follow up on this matter.”
”Also, common sense dictates that the Aurora Society certainly wouldn’t have only extraordinary individuals at the ‘Bishop of the Roses’ ‘Hermit’ level in a metropolis like Berkland, there would be at least one Divine Messenger, possibly even a Holy One. ”
”Their plot to welcome the ‘True Creator’s’ descent has failed, with their crazy and irrational characteristics, I fear that they will make a series of retaliatory acts, you must be on high alert these days, and I will also stay in Bekrand.”
”Yes, Lord Cecima.” A deacon and squad leader responded solemnly.
Cresta Sesima paused for a few seconds and added:
”Tingen’s Megaoos incident and last night’s Lanlus incident both reveal a problem, the factory district, dock district and east district have become hotbeds for evil gods to descend and breed, you assign personnel to investigate and gather the truest picture of the situation.”
”If it is indeed as described by Lanlus, I will bring up this matter in the Cardinal’s Council to officially put pressure on the Kingdom and the government to push for the appropriate changes to be realized as soon as possible.”
……
Klein slept in until late, but it still wasn’t bright enough outside, still clouded with a light mist, dark and damp and cold.
It doesn’t fit my somewhat splendid mood …… He muttered, changed his clothes, grabbed his keys, and made his way back to Minsk Street without much attention.
Once he had changed from his worker’s uniform to his household shirt and sweater and confirmed that no one was coming to investigate him as a private detective, he put his mind completely at rest and leisurely went out to the butcher’s greengrocer to purchase food and prepare himself a hearty lunch.
There was some sunshine in Birkeland in the late afternoon, and Klein lazily basked in it, seemingly wanting to do nothing for a while.
He waited until 2:45 before pulling out his gold-cased pocket watch, returning to his bedroom, and entering the gray mist.
After manifesting the “world” dummy and re-familiarizing himself with its operation, he sat in the high-backed chair at the top of the room and sent a reminder to his fellow “sun” students to get ready for the party.
At exactly 3:00 Birkeland time, a deep red glow rose up from the grand and ancient palace, outlining different figures in the same blur.
”Justice,” Audrey spoke briskly, looking directly upward:
”Good afternoon, Mr. ‘Fool’.”
”That ‘simple’ task you commissioned is complete.”
She purposely put emphasis on the word “simple” to confirm from Mr. ‘Fool’ if Lanlus was the one K’s dependents got rid of, and if the death scene covered with tarot cards was the iconic symbol of the Tarot Society.
Klein said with a fake flat smile:
”I already know.”
After saying this, he sighed languidly:
”Such a time, such a Birkeland, such an East End, Docklands, and Factory District, what a hotbed for the descent of evil gods.”
What? “Inverted Hanging Man” Alger froze at the sound of it, suspecting that something was wrong with his ears.
Why would a simple mission involve a hotbed of evil gods descending?
