Part 3 The Traveler Chapter 139 The Governor’s House Dinner
Admiral Emilius Levitt …… the true demigod …… Hearing Bildt’s note, two words instantly popped up within Klein’s mind:
”Sorry, bye!”
Seeing Germaine Sparrow raise his eyebrows less obviously, Bilt hurriedly explained:
”It doesn’t take away from the difficulty of the task.
”No one here needs a demigod to show his strength.”
He cleared his throat and piled on a smile:
”In order to make this mission less difficult, His Excellency the Admiral purposely arranged to inspect the Oravi Naval Base in the last few days so that he wouldn’t need to stay at the naval base in the Mid-Sunian Sea, the ‘City of Generosity’ Bayam, thus avoiding ‘Sea King ‘ Yarn Courtman, avoiding the Governor of the Rothschild Islands, George Negan, most of his subordinates who knew him well, his relatives who ran the family estate there, and the one mistress who knew him best.
”That is to say, you do not need to face the gaze of a demigod, or the trials of the forlorn.
”There are only three people here who are familiar with His Excellency the Admiral, one is his secretary, Lieutenant Colonel Luran, who belongs to Military Intelligence Nine and has the responsibility of overseeing His Excellency the Admiral, he is supposed to have used many names, I’m not sure if this is his real name, the second one is His Excellency the Admiral’s mistress here, a beautiful young lady called Cynthia, whose ancestors were said to have been noblemen and were stripped of their titles and exiled here, and thirdly, Auston Levett, governor of Orave, who is the youngest of that brother of his Excellency the Admiral, and the Earl Levett of the House of Lords is their elder brother.”
It really doesn’t sound that difficult, and my divination results don’t show much danger …… Klein was silent for a few seconds and nodded gently:
”I need details about Emilius Levitt.”
”We’ve already prepared it, this is his photo, this is the description of his physical features in his hideout, this is the characteristics of his accent, this is his word habits, this is his different reactions and attitudes to different events, and this is the detailed nature of his dealings with Luran, Cynthia, and Austen …… “Bilt’s heart was delighted, and he immediately took out the many pieces of information that originated from Admiral Emilius Levitt.
Klein first took the photo and saw that on it was a middle-aged man with black hair and blue eyes, his temperament was on the serious and old-fashioned side, and his hair was quite a bit more than that of the average Rune man.
He nodded slightly, then raised his head.
”I know this is a lot of information, but I’m sure you’ll be able to memorize it in the next two days, and you’re bound to be very professional in this area ……” Bildt had subconsciously taken a step back before his words, because it was no longer Germaine Sparrow in front of him, but Emilius -Levitt, that kind of seriousness with hidden arrogance is simply not the slightest bit different from myself!
”Storm above, this, this borders on the miraculous!” Bilt looked up and down and couldn’t help but exclaim in admiration, “However, the height could be three centimeters more, and both legs need to be a bit thicker, it doesn’t matter, there’s no need to be in such a hurry, His Excellency, the Admiral, will be arriving with the first detachment of the Royal Navy’s Mid-Sunian Fleet day after tomorrow, and will inspect the Olavi Naval Base in the afternoon and host a dinner party at the Governor’s Mansion. I have an invitation to take you in and observe His Excellency the Admiral’s demeanor and attitude when interacting with different people.”
As he spoke, he took the 500 pounds in cash that Sotos had removed from the safe and handed it to Klein:
”Happy cooperation!”
Klein weighed the bill and scrutinized it for a few moments and said:
”Pleased to cooperate.”
……
Birkeland, Williams Street.
As a less visible member of the Red Glove, Leonard Mitchell stood with his back against the facade of a house, waiting for the initial interrogation of the scene to be completed.
With his right foot raised and landing only on his toes, he appeared to be quite discrete.
After a while, he saw a teammate return to this side with a rather mixed expression of excitement, confusion, anticipation, and nervousness.
”Townsend, any results?” Leonard’s heart fluttered, and he leaned in with a smile.
”Uh-huh.” Townsend nodded and replied matter-of-factly, “Both sides are accounted for, they couldn’t lie in the dream.”
The thin-haired Townsend said as he put his bowler hat back on:
”What they told is the same, there is a relic belonging to the Tudor dynasty of the fourth century under the ground of this street, and the entrance is tentatively determined to be inside that abandoned chapel, as to whether there are other entrances, no one knows for the time being.”
”So ah …… “Leonard did not ask more questions, after a few idle words, he retreated back to the edge, once again leaning against the wall.
He looked around and lowered his voice:
”Old man, up to your area of expertise.
”There is a relic of the Tudor family hidden here.”
The slightly older voice swirled within his mind:
”You’re really getting out of hand, in our time, disrespecting the high and mighty meant that you would be a living sacrifice.
”Also, it is unlikely that there is a separate relic of House Tudor in Berkland.”
”They’re lying?” Leonard whispered rhetorically.
The slightly older voice chuckled:
”No, it’s just that they don’t know enough.
”If my deduction is not wrong, the ruins here should belong to the ‘United Empire of Tudor-Trenthorst’.”
”What?” Leonard was stunned for a moment.
This belonged to an ancient dynasty that he had never even heard of.
The slightly aged voice gave a laugh:
”What a poorly informed brat, after the first overthrow of the Solomon Empire, the one that replaced it was none other than the ‘Tudor-Trenthorst United Empire’, which ruled the entire Northern Continent in the form of the Dual Consuls.
”Dual Consuls ……,” Leonard chewed on the term.
The slightly aged voice half smiled and half sighed:
”That relic in the ground should have inverted candlesticks 41 left and 40 right, two thrones that look like they belong to giants, and …… heck, it might be the place where Alistair Tudor became the ‘Blood Emperor.’ ”
Leonard frowned slightly, then stretched, smiling with a relaxed posture:
”There must be a lot of secrets hidden in there.”
”Of course, but you are not yet qualified to know.” The slightly aged voice tsked.
Leonard inconspicuously bristled and said:
”The ruins should be explored next.”
The slightly aged voice laughed twice and stopped talking.
A minute later, Leonard saw Archbishop St. Anthony and Archbishop Horamik of the Church of Steam end their conversation and each head back.
Immediately afterward, Horamik ordered all the members of the “Mechanical Heart” to evacuate, leaving this place to the night watchmen of the Church of the Goddess of the Night.
What happened? Seeing this scene, Leonard was filled with doubt.
At this moment, the voice of St. Anthony’s Archbishop rang in the ears of all the Night Watchers:
”Red Gloves assemble, the rest of the Night Watchers leave the Mirror World, find a reason to evacuate all the populace here, and promise to give them compensation for their houses.
”After all the populace has been evacuated, the Red Glove joins me in destroying the underground relic that originated in the Age of Evil!
”No entry allowed, just destroy it!
”May the Goddess bless us.”
This …… Leonard did not expect this development at all.
……
At 7:30 PM, Governor Oravi’s residence.
Klein changed into the appearance of Sotos, wearing a black tuxedo and a bow tie of the same color, and followed Bilt into the dinner hall.
Inside, it was warm as if it were spring, and huge crystal chandeliers hung down from the dome, flickering with uncountable candlelight, illuminating the entire venue as if it were day.
In the right corner, members of the orchestra in vests and bow ties played a light melody, while on the left, a long table was set up with delicious dishes such as roasted baby chicken, sautéed foie gras, braised lamb, Béckeleande-style roasted goose, and cream cheese h’Olavi’s large lobster.
Even from a distance, Klein seemed to smell the aromas emanating from them and was ready to go over to get a plate and fill it with food.
At that moment, Bilt pulled his cuffs slightly restrainedly, inclined his head, and lowered his voice:
”Remember the etiquette of such feasts.
”Our purpose now is to observe the demeanor of His Excellency the Admiral, so take a glass of wine and be done with it.
”There’s Misty Champagne, Ormire Wine, and Southwell Red, all of which are rare and famous wines out there, so you can have a little bit, but not too much, and we have to stay sober enough to, well, try to just put on a show when we drink.”
Klein withdrew his eyes and nodded.
He and Bildt each took a glass of champagne with an attractive golden color and fine bubbles like mist from a tray carried by the red vested waiter who passed by, and then leaned towards the focal point of the party, Emilius Levitt in his dark blue Admiral’s uniform.
With their position, they naturally couldn’t really get close to His Excellency the Admiral, and could only stay a little farther away, watching each other’s every move.
”Emilius had an ordinary build, didn’t look robust, and the corners of his mouth drooped slightly, showing his actual age ……
”He wore no beard, and his azure eyes seemed to hide within them a majesty that could not be denied or defended ……
”His dark blue general’s uniform was straight, with red ribbons around his shoulders and down his chest, dropping medals… ……
”On his cuffs were gold studs that mirrored the same color of the epaulettes ……
”The epaulettes are divided into three parts, from the inside out: a ruby-encrusted crown, a crossed scepter and sword, and four diamond-embellished stars ……” Klein went into a state of intense concentration, utilizing his “Faceless Man Klein went into a state of great concentration, using his “Faceless Man” ability to memorize the details of the admiral’s characteristics, as well as the other party’s attitude when talking to different people.
During this process, he even took a sip of the misty champagne, not caring what it tasted like.
Once the information was pretty much gathered, Klein exhaled and let his head stop running so frantically.
The massive drain on his energy made him feel hungry, so he set his glass down on the tray held by the red vested waiter and prepared to head over to the long table to get some food.
Just then, Bilt leaned in and said:
”His Excellency, the Admiral, gave me the code word, and we’re going to meet him at the predetermined location.”
…… Klein withdrew his eyes that had fallen on the roasted young chicken and swept Bilt indifferently.
Bildt inexplicably shivered and turned his body in a panic, guiding Germaine Sparrow into the garden from the floor-to-ceiling window position.
After nearly a minute on the secluded path, he paused and pointed to Klein’s face:
”You can take on the appearance of His Excellency the Admiral.
”Just pretend you’re the tramp who looks so much like him.”
Klein nodded softly and reached up to wipe his face with his palm.
–He did this to cover up the nasty things such as granules and lumpy pox that might appear on his face when he changed his appearance.
When he lowered his palm, Bilt saw a middle-aged man who bore an eight or nine percent resemblance to Emilius Levitt.
”Very good.” Bilt took a few steps forward to the door of the utility room and reached out to push open the hidden door.
Emilius Levitt, still dressed in the eye-catching Admiral’s uniform, stood sideways to the entrance, by the window, admiring the view of the garden.
At that moment, he half-turned his head and cast his eyes on the visitor who resembled himself.
The ineffable sense of majesty and oppression made Klein involuntarily lower his head.
Without lingering too much, Emilius Levitt’s gaze slowly moved to Bildt and said in a tone that contained no emotion:
”This is not the vagabond you mentioned before.
”He is an Extraordinary One.”
