Part 3 the traveler Chapter 144 – “Emilius'” Decision
Looking at the villa, which was lit up in the darkness, Klein took a few seconds to mentally prepare himself before stepping out of the carriage, walking up the three flights of steps to the front door, and entering the house surrounded by the general’s guards and attendants on both sides of the door.
Seeing Cynthia’s conservative household clothing because of the presence of others, Klein silently sighed in relief, kept his serious and proper expression unchanged, and slowly leaned over.
Cynthia’s smile grew more pronounced as she lifted the few strands of hair that had fallen behind her ears, revealing a slender white neck with no trace of a necklace present on it.
Seeing the secretary Luelan and the members of the general’s guard either heading to the rooms they were staying in or dispersing to police the outside of the house, Klein grabbed Cynthia’s embrace before she could give it to her and said in a hushed voice:
”No need to prepare hot water, give me a quiet room, I need to be alone for the night.”
”……” Cynthia expressed her bewilderment and confusion with a look.
Klein looked around the room and said in a low voice:
”Something has come up and I have to go into a very calm state to recover.”
As he spoke, he raised his right hand and pulled the cuff slightly, revealing a well-defined light-colored bud of flesh.
The poor physical condition and certain abnormal reactions were the excuses that Admiral Emilius had prepared for the previous tramp’s double to help him evade Cynthia’s request for closeness without revealing the problem, and Klein had intentionally used the “Faceless Man” technique to give “evidence” in order to enhance his persuasive power. “Cynthia’s mouth dropped open, and she was close to being killed.
Cynthia’s mouth dropped open and she nearly screamed, but luckily, she reached out with her palm in time to block her voice.
”No problems, right? Do we need to get a doctor?” Cynthia eased up a little and immediately asked nervously, concern overflowing.
”No, this is the necessary price for gaining great power, I’ll be calm for two or three days and I’ll be back to normal.” Klein got the follow-up reason right as well.
”Okay, okay.” Cynthia was busy leading Klein up to the second floor, taking him into the quietest one.
As for the master bedroom, it was not made available because she had lit a few smoky incense and sprinkled some pure dew with a fresh flavor.
Watching the door to the room close, Klein exhaled slowly, changed out of the general’s gown he was wearing, and cozied up to the bed.
Not far away, in the master bedroom, a worried and lost Cynthia soaked in a hot bath and similarly got under the covers.
Her eyes stared unfocused at the ceiling, and she couldn’t help but remember her father and mother’s instructions from a few days ago.
They had told her to curry favor with Admiral Emilius, preferably by conceiving his child, so that the family could obtain a larger share of the Mid-Sunian Naval Fleet agency.
The Admiral’s heart seems to be harboring so many things that his body is showing a certain abnormality …… Cynthia thought ramblingly, her thoughts gradually drifting away.
She unknowingly fell asleep.
Vaguely, she felt that her intestines were a little warm, her body was a little hot, and in her dream, she seemed to see a dark night sky, which was dotted with a bright star.
One of them, as if sensing her gaze, bloomed into an even brighter light.
……
The next morning, a refreshed Klein enjoyed a hearty but unimpressive breakfast, and once again, surrounded by the Admiral’s Guard, went to the Oravi Naval Base and commandeered the most luxurious and spacious office.
According to Admiral Emilius’ habit, he would spend some time alone every two or three days to study and master his extraordinary abilities at a deeper level and develop more and more practical techniques, so Klein would have most of the day undisturbed, and the rest of the day would be spent on some simple business.
Inside the quiet and spacious office, Kraven paced back and forth leisurely, or took books from the shelves to read, and occasionally reached into his coat pocket and touched the “Ninth Law” charm, letting it emit an unusually deep majesty – this was to let the blonde secretary Lurien outside! This was to convince the blonde secretary outside, Lurian, that Admiral Emilius was not abnormal.
After an unknown amount of time, Klein became sleepy and planned to take a nap.
Just then, he heard a knock on the door.
There is something very important …… Klein frowned for a moment.
Something that could make Secretary Luelan disturb Admiral Emilius’ concentration on practicing would definitely not be simple!
”Come in.” Klein collected his emotions and responded in a deep voice.
The clean-looking blonde young man Luelian twisted the handle and opened the door, seemingly grasping a telegram in his palm.
He lowered his voice and said:
”His Excellency the Admiral, a telegram from Birkeland.
”Mr. Austen has been relieved of his governorship and temporarily replaced by the Speaker of the City Council.
”The new Governor is said to be arriving today.”
Austen Leavitt has been relieved of his governorship? Their conspiracy has been discovered? The Dusk Hermits warned me, no, Emilius, that they had already gotten to grips with the situation, and through the maneuvering of some of their members, there’s a good chance that the matter would have been resolved through a series of changes in positions. …… They warned me the night before, and they’re starting today. Starting the operation today, they have been preparing for a long time, right …… Well, just from the fact that the new governor will arrive today, this can be seen …… Klein was first shocked, and then felt that this is reasonable.
He took the stance of Admiral Emilius when he was faced with a major issue and paced back and forth a few times with a serious expression:
”I see.”
Klein did not make a statement, did not give any orders, and appeared extremely deep.
However, the reality was that he hadn’t even thought about what to do.
There is a saying in our big eating empire that “a movement is better than a silence”, I don t know if Rossel has translated it …… Klein thought, half mocking himself and half spitting.
Lurian looked up at Admiral Emilius, said nothing, and quietly exited the office.
Phew …… Klein paced again, pondering what choice the real Admiral Emilius would make as he stood here.
This was an important event outside of an expected situation, and there was no corresponding preplanning, so Klein could only substitute and surmise based on Emilius’ personality, experience, and certain self-statements on his profile.
He is a conservative person, even when he is in the middle and lower sequences and mixes with various ships, he seldom makes risky moves …… He thinks of himself as a Ruin noble who values his family and his relatives and his children and his emotions, and he is a gentleman who is very genteel and pleasing to women, ergo, this is debatable, with his rank and status, even if he were to change With his rank and status, even if he was replaced by a curly haired baboon, he would be loved by women and men, no, even more so, at least the curly haired baboon wouldn’t tell outdated jokes …… Klein’s mind flashed through a message and intertwined it into a three dimensional image of Admiral Emilius.
In the midst of such immersive substitution, he heard another knock on the door.
”Come in.” Klein’s spirit was instantly highly tensed.
The blonde-haired secretary Luelian opened the door and pointed outside:
”Your Excellency Admiral, Mr. Auston wants to see you.”
Why did Auston come over? Did he want to see Emilius to seek protection, or was he planning to die? Klein’s eyes narrowed slightly, realizing that he had to make a decision for Admiral Emilius.
”What will he do? After receiving the warning from the ‘Twilight Hermit Society’, he should understand that things have been exposed and that the target has been prepared for a long time, and given his conservative nature, the choice is conceivable ……
”However, he also pays close attention to affection, and even described some anecdotes of Austen Leavitt in detail in his profile, and it’s not hard to see that it contains an older brother’s concern and affection for his youngest brother …… He doesn’t love marijuana or cigarettes, and his drinking is just socializing, and there’s nothing much wrong with him except for a bit of an obsession with beautiful women ……
”He valued family …… family ……” Klein flew back to his thoughts, allowing himself to become thoroughly absorbed in the identity of Emilius, empathizing with the emotions the other man harbored and the things he valued.
Family …… At this moment, it was as if he had incarnated himself into Emilius, but analyzed the various issues with a detached stance.
After a dozen seconds of silence, Klein heard himself say in a somewhat strangely cold tone:
”Tell him that I have so much to attend to that I have no time to see him.
”Also, get him a ticket for the boat back to Birkeland.”
As if he had expected it, Lur’an withdrew his gaze and responded without seeing anything unusual:
”Yes, His Excellency the Admiral.”
Watching Luelan exit the office and go outside to look for Austen Levitt, Klein sighed softly just like the real Emilius Levitt.
He knew that the other party would have made the same choice if he had returned earlier.
Because what he valued most was the family!
With the plot already exposed, Emilius wouldn’t spell out his last bargaining chip and put the family in danger of annihilation, as long as he didn’t get involved, as long as he was still a demigod, even if he would no longer serve as the supreme commander of the Mid-Sunian Navy afterward, the Levett family wouldn’t be damaged too severely.
As for letting the secretary go and buy the ship ticket on behalf of him, it was to show that Emilius still regarded Austen as a brother, and to warn the others not to hurt the other party until the issue was clarified.
After nearly a minute, the blonde secretary, Luelian, returned:
”Your Excellency Admiral, Mr. Auston has left.”
Emilius valued affection …… Klein was silent for two seconds, turned his back to the secretary, and asked in a low voice:
”Did he say anything?”
Luran answered truthfully:
”He said that you really are a naturally cold person.”
Klein listened quietly, and the corners of his mouth quirked up in a smile devoid of amusement.
It was his instinctive reaction, but having been integrated into the identity of Emilius, he was sure that that admiral would have expressed the same.
That feeling that emotion was consistent!
For the rest of the day, Krynn sat in his office, not seeing any guests or handling a single piece of business, only occasionally listening in silence to Secretary Luran’s report on the situation on Oravi.
Nothing happened until the arrival of the new governor.
In the evening, he put off the scheduled dinner and returned to that garden villa, looking at Cynthia, who was walking towards him, and embraced the other party.
Then he said calmly:
”Austen has been relieved of his governorship.”
All the sighs all the sighs all the pain condensed into those words with little emotion.
”I heard about that, it should be okay, right?” Cynthia asked nervously.
Klein closed his eyes and didn’t mention the matter again, but only gave a soft “hmm”.
Those words just now were the most obvious outpouring of emotion that a serious, old-fashioned, conservative and introverted person in a high position could make.
