Part 3 The Traveler Chapter 159 – The Wellhead That Humans Cannot Pass Through
Nina was a pirate who had come out step by step from the lower and middle classes, and although she was more impatient and irritable a lot of the time, she definitely claimed to be experienced in doing things, and belonged to the kind of people who were relatively reliable, and described it earnestly after a little recollection:
”The well was at the deeper bottom of the sea, and I had to have enough buffer time to adjust to the pressure and temperature there, so it took a long time to arrive.
”It wasn’t easy to spot on its own, but the remnants of the steel buildings were certainly more visible, and I found them as soon as I was acclimatized to the environment there.
”They’re so completely collapsed and decayed that it’s impossible to imagine what they originally looked like, but it’s evident that they must have been quite large before, they’ve just shrunk a lot now.”
Nina laughed softly twice as she spoke, her eyes sweeping over one of the men in the room.
A real female pirate is really different ah …… Klein immediately sighed in his heart.
In his opinion, no matter “star above the general” Gadelia, or “iceberg lieutenant general” Edwina, “disease lieutenant general” Tracy, in fact, can not be regarded as pure female pirates, because they are all from a big power or secretive. All of them came from big powers or hidden organizations, and when they were lower in the sequence, they were either not on the sea, or they were following the big people, doing relatively safe things, or they were solo adventurers, and they were hardly influenced by the style and atmosphere of middle and low level pirates.
When Nina had finished laughing, Gadelia pointed to the rusty rotting thing in the other woman’s hand that could hardly be described as a metal bar:
”Is this part of one of those steel buildings?”
”Yes, Captain, you know, I don’t know much about history or the occult, so I had to bring some back for you to study, you being the expert on the subject.” Nina smiled and handed over the “metal bar”.
Then, she pointed at the remaining piece of black dirt whose surface was covered with honeycombs and said:
”I found that well not far from the Steel Ruins, and it really isn’t that big, and if that can be described as ‘giant’, then I must have seen a lot of giant cannons.
”Those drunken adventurers are better braggers than we pirates!
”This is the dirt from the inside of that deep well, I can’t even imagine how these marks were formed!”
Nina’s fingers whacked continuously on the honeycombed patches of black clay.
Klein had originally thought that they were the marks left by the intensive firing of a very small object, but upon closer inspection, he suspected that they were the remnants of a “pattern” caused by something corroded: each spot was very shallow, with the edges spreading out slightly and irregularly in all directions.
Nina handed over the black soil to “Star General” Gadelia as she continued her description:
”The well was really small, even a child from Naas couldn’t get into it.
”It was so deep that I didn’t even feel it had a bottom. In the conditions there, it was dark and ghostly inside, as if something was calling me slowly, yes, slowly.
”I found some rocks nearby and threw them in, but there was not the slightest response, in short, it was filled with water.”
Gadelia took the high “metal bar” and the black dirt and examined it carefully through the heavy glass lens:
”Since the mouth of the well is so small that humans can’t enter it directly, there’s no point in starting to explore it now, it’s going to be very dangerous.
”We’ll return here and try again after I figure out what secrets these two items are hiding and whether that ancient well is valuable enough to warrant the risk.”
”Yes, Captain!” The wet Nina winced at the cold wind, shaking the pirates around her into a flurry of straightened eyes.
Gadelia pushed down her frames and addressed Nina:
”You can have one bottle of Sunia blood wine today, and unlimited others.”
”Long live Captain ……!” Nina cheered as if she was overjoyed.
The ancient well under the sea that humans can’t enter …… Klein, who had no desire to explore, summarized Nina’s description in his mind.
Suddenly, he had a marvelous idea:
Just because humans can’t enter that underwater ancient well doesn’t mean that non-humans can’t!
Many deep-sea fish may not be so huge, there is a small probability that they can pass through the mouth of the well.
And as the “god of the sea”, when holding the scepter, there are enough ways to drive the sea creatures!
There is no hurry, see what the “hermit” lady can research from these two items, and then decide whether to explore on the way back, otherwise it may cause some exaggerated danger …… This kind of thing, there is not enough information, it is impossible to divine! …… In the midst of his thoughts, Klein didn’t move his voice on the surface.
At this time, the “star above the general” Gadelia but rather strange side head glanced at him, and then did not leave traces of retraction of the line of sight.
”Why is she suddenly looking at me? What’s she looking at me for? It’s not like she could have known that I have the ‘Scepter of Poseidon’ and am able to drive sea creatures, no, she knew that, but what she knew was that Mr. ‘Fool’ held the divine scepter left behind by the sea serpent, Kavituva, and not the ‘world’ ” …… Unless she saw through that ‘the world’ was ‘Mr. Fool’ …… But That’s even more unlikely, even Mr. ‘Inverted Man’ is still stuck at the level of ‘The World’ being the Favored One, and she hasn’t even discovered that ……
”Switching gears, consider it from ‘General Above the Stars’ …… She’s the one who’s being chased by knowledge, and has followed the ‘Queen of Mysteries’, with allegiance to the ‘Moss Ascetic Society’, and has traveled across the sea for many years, and has seen and experienced many things, it’s not surprising at all to know that the ‘Sea God’ realm has the extraordinary ability to drive sea creatures ……
”So, after discovering that humans can’t pass through the ancient well under the sea normally, she also naturally associated it with the scepter in Mr. ‘Fool”s hand, and intends to ask for help accordingly in the future? Seeing as I was observing whether the ‘world’ also possessed the corresponding information, did it have a similar idea?”
Klein thought of many things at once, and with the help of the Joker’s ability, he forced himself to keep his expression indifferent, without any abnormal reactions.
While Nina went to collect the Sunia blood wine, Klein clicked his hat and returned towards the cabin entrance.
As he neared the door, an image suddenly surfaced within his mind:
A room on the upper deck of the cabin, the windows closed and curtained, with a pair of poorly seen eyes hiding behind them, silently watching the crowd on deck, watching Germaine Sparrow.
Who? Klein’s feet did not pause, his body did not appear to be stiff, and he entered the cabin normally without any difference from a moment ago.
……
At three o’clock in the afternoon, bright but not burning sunlight poured into a garden near the University of Storne.
Michel Deyt, who was already a senior associate professor at just forty, waited patiently at the door in the long tuxedo he wore to the party and a nice bow tie.
Yesterday evening, he received a letter, the sender was the waiter of the Earl of Hall’s family, the biggest nobleman in East Chester County, and the letter writer was the daughter of that influential member of the House of Lords, Miss Audrey Hall, who was known as the brightest jewel of Birkeland.
The distinguished lady mentioned in her letter that she had heard from gatherings that Mr. Michel Deyt was an excellent collector, and as a lover of this field she was very anxious to come and make a visit.
Michel Deyt had no reason to refuse.
Soon, an elegant carriage with the family crest arrived at the gate.
Two servants, who had already been instructed, opened the outer gate made of steel and iron fences and led the carriage around the garden to the front of the house.
A housekeeper stepped down first, followed by a guard and a lady-in-waiting.
Then a hand in a long white gauze glove reached out.
With the help of the maids of honor, Audrey gracefully stepped onto the carpet that Michel had laid in advance.
Michel was first stunned, then his eyes lit up, only to feel that the flowers in the side garden lost their colors at this moment.
He took two steps forward, took off his hat and saluted:
”Welcome, honorable lady.
”Your visit is an honor for me and my family.”
Audrey removed the gauze hat from her head and handed it to the maid, politely said a few words, and then followed Michel Deyt through the living room and into the collection room located on the first floor.
Coming here, Michelle seemed to have finally recovered her master’s confidence, starting from the left edge and pointing at the collection to introduce it:
”This is a helmet that appeared in the War of the White Roses, and after my long research, I can confirm that its owner was a member of the Solon family, and at that time, they were still the royal family.”
The golden helmet was intricately designed, with bird-like flight-like decorations above it, and the face armor was made up of a single metal scale.
”It was in this war that my ancestor received his first knighthood.” Audrey responded with interest.
She had mentally adjusted herself ahead of time so that it was as if she was actually visiting.
”The defeat of the Twenty Years’ War humiliated the kingdom for years, but it also precipitated a hero.” Michelle flattered sideways.
The War of the White Roses took place before the Battle of the Back Oath after the Twenty Years’ War, where Rune defeated Intis and became strong again.
Michelle continued to introduce her collection, and Audrey listened very attentively, asking questions and interacting with the other from time to time.
Finally, Michelle’s finger pointed to a notebook with a black cover:
”It belonged to a knight stationed on the island of Sunia during the Twenty Years’ War.
”This knight’s name has been lost in the long history, only this notebook proves that he once existed and once stood firm on Sunia Island until the last moment.
”This notebook is not only a first-hand source for researching that period of history, but it also harbors certain questions in itself; that knight had many less common habits in grammar, which could be clues to help us figure out his exact identity.”
Audrey was intuitively convinced that this notebook was her target, and moved slightly closer, and sure enough, she found the imprint of not-so-subtle lines on the black cover, which together outlined a rather abstract dragon.
From the tone and subtle expression of Associate Professor Michel’s introduction, his interest in this notebook was mainly focused on the content rather than itself, and it was not particularly treasured …… I have great hopes of purchasing …… Audrey calmly made a judgment, turned her head sideways, and looked at it with a light smile Michelle Deight said:
”What specifically is a less common habit?”
”Liking to use short sentences, the short kind ……” Michelle recounted braggadocio style.
Audrey, always a competent listener, looked at the other with a smile and listened intently, which allowed Michelle to say more.
As she listened, she suddenly felt that there was actually something familiar about that knight’s grammatical habits.
”That’s ……” Audrey’s eyes rolled slightly, quickly remembering the source of the familiarity.
That was certain grammatical habits of the Gargoyle language that she had carefully studied and basically mastered!
