Part 4 The Undead Chapter 130 A Kind Reminder
Back in the room with the large balcony, Forsyth looked over at Hugh, whose back was against the wall, and lowered his voice:
”Guess what I saw?
”That manservant, Dontaeus’s personal manservant, is actually a devotee of the God of Death, and was just dancing the Spirit Dance and praying!”
Hugh’s eyes widened in horror, and then he relaxed his expression:
”For Mr. Dontaeus, this is just a problem that ranks very low.
”Eh, that manservant called Richardson clearly has southern continent blood, perhaps born there, so it’s not too surprising that he secretly worships the God of Death.”
Voorhees responded with a smile:
”I know, I just find this whole thing interesting, would there be a little too many people hiding secrets around this rich man, Dawn Dantes?
”I don’t feel I’d be too surprised to find out one day that all the creatures in this house, including the housekeeper, the maids, the gardener, the coachman, the earthworms, the worms, the rats, and the mice, have something to do with the mysterious and the extraordinary, except for him, and I’d easily come to terms with that fact.”
Hugh gave his friend another blank look:
”If that’s really the case, then Mr. Dawn Dantes can’t be easy, and being surrounded by extraordinary people and transcendent creatures can only mean that he’s perhaps the son of an evil god or an angel on earth.”
Not waiting for Voorhees to dispense the topic, Hugh turned to the question:
”Didn’t you just say you had a very strange dream involving treasure? Why weren’t you curious at all, and didn’t consider what it actually symbolized, and whether there was any possibility that it actually existed?”
Voorhees chuckled:
”Dreams like that often mean a lot of trouble a lot of danger, consider it later when you have a chance to encounter that symbol.”
She said this with her mouth, but what she really thought in her heart was:
There is something wrong with this dream, who knows if there will be a conspiracy, it is better to go to the tarot meeting next week and ask Mr. “Hanging Man”, “Hidden Man”, and Mr. “World” for advice, and then decide what to do. Then decide what to do, they are all experienced and powerful extraordinary people, they may have similar experience.
”You’ve matured quite a bit.” Hugh nodded slightly and, with a firm back, bounced off the wall and walked towards where Voorhees had just been sleeping.
”Mature?” Folth snorted, leaning in close to her friend and straightening her back, ‘looking down’ on the other woman’s hairline.
Not waiting for Hugh to get annoyed, she sighed again:
”You’ve really matured.
”I remember this time last year, you were relying on intuition, arbitration on your fists, and every now and then you’d get confused and make a mistake and lose your way, but now you’re much better.”
Stunned, Hugh lay down on his side, wrapped the thin silk quilt around his body, turned his back to Forsyth, and muttered:
”The main reason I got lost was all because you were dragging me around.”
Folth chuckled dryly and nodded thoughtfully:
”That’s inherent in the ‘Apprentice’ way, and has nothing to do with myself, eh!”
Seeing that Hugh was already lying down, she walked over to the wall against the master bedroom and took up her bodyguard duties in earnest.
As the night receded a little and the sky brightened, Klein got up and had breakfast, receiving two successive waves of visits from the police and a group of journalists, some of whom had come for the further investigation of Caron’s suicide, and others who wanted to get hold of more details of the attack on Senator Macht.
Arranged by his butler, Walter, Dawn Dantes met with them in turn and dealt with them quickly.
When it was late afternoon, Councilor Macht suddenly came to the door and said to Klein in a slightly urgent manner:
”Accompany me to the club for a game of tennis.”
There were several clubs of which he was a member, but there was only one with which Dawn Dantes existed at cross purposes:
The East Byron Veterans’ Officers’ Club!
Was this to finalize that arms deal? Crane understood the latent meaning of the other’s words, and immediately asked his valet Richardson to fetch his coat, bowler hat, and cane, and, riding in his own carriage, he followed Mr. Congressman all the way to the sandy-yellow, distinctive building in the Hilston district.
Once inside the club, in the same room as before, Klein was once again met by the donkey-faced Army Colonel Calvin of the Department of Defense.
After doing the customary pleasantries for a few minutes, Calvin finally stepped into the thick of things, looking at Dawn Dantes and grinning:
”I heard from Macht that you can come up with twenty thousand gold pounds in one go?”
”Although this is rather reluctant, it is indeed possible.” Klein responded with the corners of his mouth turned up.
Calvin nodded in satisfaction and mused:
”For the time being, I can’t use 20,000 pounds, the batch of guns, ammunition and a small amount of artillery prepared for you will be in a warehouse somewhere in East Byron, the quantity is relatively small, and it will only be able to arm 3,000 or 4,000 people, calculated by the scrap price, it will be 10,000 pounds at the most, and of course, you’ll have to give me 15,000 pounds.”
He said it without hiding anything at all, as if this was already the norm within the Rune army.
”No problem.” Klein nodded with a calm expression.
Calvin let out a laugh at that:
”Very good, Maht’s vision is very good, to make business in this area, one should never skimp.
”That batch of arms, it’s worth at least twenty thousand pounds in West Byron, if you can find a suitable buyer and can utilize your experience there, it’s entirely possible to sell it for thirty thousand pounds or even more, by the way, the transportation and storage costs on the way will be borne by yourself, we’ll only send two or three personnel to assist you.”
Surely there will be supervisors …… Klein listened stoically and felt that he needed to urge the “General above the stars” and Danez, so that they can give him the information of West Byron as soon as possible.
He murmured and said:
”When will it start?”
”That batch of arms into the appropriate warehouse is still two weeks, after that when to start, it is up to you to decide, well, you do not need to pay the full amount, first give 8,000 to 10,000 pounds, until the matter is over, and then pay the final payment.” Calvin put on a good-natured face.
Two weeks later, close to the end of the month, then certainly to participate in the “fate of the serpent” birth banquet before leaving …… still waiting for k’s umbilical cord blood …… Klein thought for a moment and said:
”I have to do some preparations beforehand, and I’ll probably go to the southern continent at the beginning of July.”
Calvin and Councilor Macht glanced at each other before gently stroking their palms and saying:
”No problem.”
……
Outside the East Byron Veterans’ Officers’ Club, Hugh and Forsyth hid on the rooftop of a nearby building, monitoring the people coming and going around them.
– Hugh was well aware that there were quite a few extraordinary people inside this club, so he didn’t dare to let Forsyth sneak in with her to provide close protection for Dawn Dantes, and could only wait outside.
”Luckily, this is Beckland, even if there is not much fog in this season, there is no lack of clouds, and the sun is not too fierce, otherwise, my skin would surely be reddened again.” Forsyth shrank back into the shadows and grunted casually.
Hugh was about to speak when he suddenly saw a carriage traveling up to the back door of the club, it was brown in color overall and had a signature coat of arms with flowers and finger rings as the main body of the coat of arms.
Viscount Stratford’s carriage …… Hugh muttered to herself silently, and busied herself with opening her eyes wide and gathering her attention, as she whirled around to see the familiar and unfamiliar figure stepping out of the carriage and entering the East Byron Veteran Officers’ Club, flanked by a few bodyguards.
”What’s wrong?” Forsyth sensed his friend’s abnormality.
Hugh did not conceal it, and said frankly:
”I saw Viscount Stretford, who has also come to this club.”
”That head of the palace guard?” Forsyth asked rhetorically, slightly startled.
”Uh-huh.” Hugh nodded heavily.
Folth opened his mouth to say something, but didn’t know what to say, so he looked around and pretended to be monitoring the anomaly.
After a while, they saw Dawn Dantes walk out.
……
By mid-afternoon, another visitor came to the door at 160 Birklund Street.
This time it was the majority shareholder of the Cowiem Company, Mrs. Mary.
”I’m sorry my request got you into this mess, I didn’t think Baron Sindras would do such a thing, and poor Caron, he was planning to take his family to Winterfell for the summer.” Mary Short said apologetically and with indignation.
Klein responded calmly:
”I agree with you about Caron, he is truly unfortunate.
”However, the affair may not have been Baron Sindras’ doing, and it may well have been a trap against him.”
Lady Mary nodded solemnly:
”I have heard of that speculation, and it is rumored that the police department is planning to enlist the help of a formidable forensic pathologist to dissect the body and look for clues that have been missed.”
The latter half of her sentence was automatically replaced in Klein’s ears with “The police department is planning to hire a powerful ‘psychic’ from the Church of Darkness to examine the corpse and look for clues that have been missed.”
I wonder what will be found …… Klein raised his right hand and nodded four times clockwise on his chest Dao:
”May the Goddess bless Caron with peace, and his true murderers will be punished.”
Lady Mary responded with the same liturgy and then said:
”In order that you may not be further affected by this affair, I intend to acquire the shares in your hands in advance, and at an additional premium of £1,000 to the current maximum price.
”You don’t have to worry about my funds, the one thing I’ve been busy with lately is borrowing money from the bank.”
Klein sighed and laughed:
”I appreciate your kindness, but you’ll have to go to the church if you want to talk about the early transfer of the shares, I’ve already donated to them and intend to use the proceeds from the exchange to set up a bursary fund for the poor.”
It was the first time Mrs. Mary had heard this, and for a moment she was quite too shocked to speak.
After a full ten seconds, she quietly exhaled and said:
”Your character, your generosity, and your wisdom, all make me very impressed.”
As she spoke, she looked at Dawn Dantes with a little more appreciation.
Klein humbly pushed all the credit to the goddess, then paused and asked with a serious expression:
”Mrs. Mary, I have a question I would like you to answer.
”When you decided to confront Baron Sindras and retain control of the Caoim Company, was it purely out of your heart, or was there a reason you were persuaded to do so?”
Lady Mary frowned slightly and answered frankly:
”The persuasions that were offered to me were all to make me give it up.”
Crane fell silent at once, and without discussing this aspect of the subject further, and after chatting for a while about the attack on Senator Macht, he sent the lady opposite away from 160 Birklund Street.
After dinner his butler, Walter, came into the half-open room with its large balcony, and said to his employer, who was seated in an easy-chair:
”Sir, the two bounty hunters have been sent away, at a total cost of £300 for three days, excluding the food provided.”
Finally gone …… Klein Hawk relaxed and nodded his head in recognition of Mr. Steward’s reply.
Then, he couldn’t wait to enter the master bedroom, ready to rummage through the mushrooms sent by Frank Lee and take them above the gray mist to communicate with the “writhing hunger”.
When he came to the desk where the mushrooms were hidden, he saw a letter pressed against an ink bottle.
Slightly puzzled, Klein picked it up, opened it, and quickly skimmed through it, his expression then becoming rather odd:
”Mr. Dantes, we are the bodyguards you hired, we discovered something in the past few days and thought it was necessary to tell you about it, so, while you were having dinner, we entered your bedroom and left this letter.”
