Part 5 Red Priest Chapter 35 Hazel’s Decision
After listening to Senator Macht’s answer, combined with the previously grasped situation, Klein initially judged that the rat in the countryside manor should be the “thief” demigod beside Hazel, as to why the other party went crazy and why he bit Hazel, that is unknown for the time being.
He nodded slightly and nodded four times clockwise on his chest:
”May the goddess protect her.”
With that said, he crossed over to his host and entered the hall to wait for tonight’s ball to begin.
……
Inside one of the bedrooms on the third floor, Hazel was sitting somewhat shriveled in an easy chair, curling her feet up.
Her left hand was wrapped in a thick bandage, not much blood had seeped out, and her expression was sullen, not seeing her usual high spirits.
After being suddenly bitten by that teacher in the guise of a rat at the suburban manor, she had been in a similar state, her entire being appearing muddled and not lucid enough, as if it was not a tiger’s mouth that had been bitten, but her mind.
For Hazel, although the development of her high pride stemmed from the education she received from a young age, her talent for learning that exceeded that of ordinary people, her rather outstanding appearance, her family located in the upper class, and her ideas that were considerably more mature than those of her peers, before she came into contact with the supernatural power, this state of mind was actually in the normal category, and didn’t make her feel that she was completely different from other people, and that she was going to be superior to the ordinary people from the very nature of her being.
Therefore, the teacher who sustained her pride, represented her strange encounters, and symbolized the source of her power suddenly became like a real rat, not only did her speech become slurred, but also bit her without reason, causing her to receive an extremely huge blow, and she couldn’t help but doubt whether supernatural power represented transcending mortals, or approaching monsters.
Between her thoughts, Hazel unconsciously tucked a strand of her long, dark green hair behind her ear, a pang of annoyance at the lilting music coming from downstairs.
It was then that she heard the creak of a door opening and turned her head slightly sluggishly to look over.
In came a gray mouse with smooth, watery fur, its eyes darker than its counterpart, approaching a dark red.
”Hazel.” The rat spoke in a low voice.
Hazel was stunned at first, but then she was so happy that she hurriedly rolled over and stood up, and spoke offhandedly:
”Teacher, you, you recovered?”
As soon as her words fell, she suddenly saw one gray mouse after another drilling out of the corners of the bedroom, the entrance to the balcony, and the bottom of the sleeping bed, all with dark red eyes, but only able to make squeaking sounds.
Hazel took a step back in terror, tripped over the edge of the easy chair, and staggered, nearly falling, before she managed to regain her balance.
At this time, she realized that all those red-eyed rats had disappeared, and the door of the room was tightly shut and unopened.
It seemed that everything just now was just her hallucination, or a nightmare due to the worries in her heart!
After a moment of silence, Hazel pursed her lips and exhaled like a sigh.
She sat down again and raised her hands to pinch the corners of her forehead on both sides.
As she pinched and squeezed, her brows furrowed slightly, always feeling that she had just been in too much of a trance and not real enough.
Dark brown eyes rolling slightly, Hazel pulled out the necklace she wore around her neck and held it in her palm.
The main body of this necklace was seven emerald green and transparent stones, which were surrounded by a circle of tiny diamonds set at the exact same distance from each other.
At this moment, one of the stones slowly lit up, emitting an emerald green light that reflected Hazel’s face in an extremely moisturized manner, causing one strange and mysterious symbol after another to protrude within her eyes.
All of the previous images resurfaced in the dark green long-haired girl’s mind, becoming clear one after another from a blurry, mesmerizing dream-like state.
As scene after scene was scrutinized, Hazel detected something, confirming that she had not just been dreaming or hallucinating briefly in a trance, but rather, she had fallen into an illusion for nearly ten seconds.
”Decipher Scholar.”
”This ……” Hazel’s dark brown eyes widened abruptly, and a word full of fear was unconsciously muttered out of her mouth.
She stood up prancingly and looked hastily from side to side, but found nothing.
But the more she did, the more she panicked, for it was unclear what would befall her next, and she didn’t understand what the person who created the illusion was trying to do!
The only thing she could be sure of was that her opponent’s level and power in the supernatural realm was far superior to her own!
This shattered what little pride she had left inside her.
After several minutes, the entire bedroom remained quiet, and the melody downstairs was so light that one could intuitively associate it with lively dance steps.
Hazel finally slowed down, feeling that nothing should follow.
Then, she had the spare energy and mood to think about what exactly the dark one was creating the illusion for.
Between the various thoughts floating around, Hazel suddenly had a guess:
The one just now was here for her teacher!
Through the illusion, he had confirmed his teacher’s current state from himself!
Teacher’s friend or enemy? He must have gone to look for the teacher by now, what should we do? He shouldn’t know where the teacher is hiding yet …… No, the matter of me being bitten by a crazy rat in the suburban manor is known to all the surrounding neighbors …… Hazel’s heart burst into a panic, and her grip on that necklace became harder and harder.
She couldn’t decide if the one she had just been with was good or bad, and she didn’t know what to do about it.
She wanted to go to the suburban manor and inform her teacher about this matter, but she was afraid of running into danger and becoming a victim.
Moreover, her teacher seemed to have lost most of her ability to communicate at the moment, and even if she reaped the reminder, she might not be able to figure out the exact meaning.
Hazel unconsciously stood up and paced back and forth within the bedroom, finally, she made up her mind, pursed her lips tightly, walked to the door, and said to the personal maid outside:
”I am a little tired and am ready to sleep now, you should not let anyone disturb me.”
”Yes, miss.” That maid immediately responded.
Closing the door to her room, Hazel began to change into clothes that were easy to move around in, her expression very pensive, her teeth lightly biting her lips.
She finally decided to go to the suburban manor to remind her teacher.
She didn’t want to turn into a person who appeared to be haughty but was actually timid, losing all her principles at the slightest danger!
That would make her look down on herself!
When Hazel left 39 Birklund Street, taking advantage of the fact that the bodyguards’ attention was focused on the ballroom crowd, and entered the garden through the balcony water pipe, Klein was discussing the business world of the Southern Continent with several men over a glass of sweet-tasting sparkling wine on the rocks.
He sidled his head by a very small margin, glanced at the garden location, and had already detected Hazel’s movements with the help of an intuitive hunch.
…… Although it is not a girl with a pleasant character, it is still conscientious …… Klein nodded his head slightly invisibly and praised it in his heart.
He didn’t have the slightest worry about Hazel’s actions because traveling from Birklund Street in the North District to the Macht family manor in the northwestern outskirts of Berkland would take 3 to 5 hours even by carriage, and he would be able to find an excuse to leave the ball and teleport directly there to confirm the situation before that.
–The Macht family’s estate, although in the northwestern suburb, was located on the other side of the Tassock River, so if he wanted to reach it, he had to first make a detour to a place with a bridge, and if it was fine during the daytime, he could first utilize the steam subway to travel to the southern part of the bridge from the bottom of the river, but at night, he would only be able to consider one of the three long bridges, and the overall cost of five hours was unavoidable .
Of course, Klein had used the “kindling” gloves, read the “2-105” blood vessel thief’s information, and had a certain understanding of the ability of the “thief” pathway, so he suspected that Hazel, who possessed a higher level item, would be the only one who had the ability to steal from the “thief” pathway. I suspected that Hazel, who possessed a higher level item, could “steal” a bird’s flying ability and use the short maintenance time to cross the river directly from mid-air, in which case she could arrive at her destination in only three hours.
But no matter what, I’m faster than her …… Klein withdrew his gaze and considered who he would ask to be his dance partner next.
……
It was 10 o’clock at night at the Elk Manor, located in the northwestern outskirts of Berkland.
It originally belonged to a Viscount and is now hundreds of years old, Senator Macht bought it after his marriage and spends a sum of money every year on major repairs so that he can invite his friends for a vacation on weekends in the fall and winter.
At this moment, the deacon of the manor was arranging for the manservants and maids to check various places and close the doors and windows tightly, something they did every day before going to bed.
Several of the maids came out of the wine cellar in pairs and headed straight for the kitchen area to make sure that any fires that should be out were all out.
No sooner had they arrived there than they heard a squeaking sound and gazed to find a mouse with gray fur gnawing at the legs of a long table.
The mouse seemed to have sensed their gaze, and instead of fleeing, it twisted its head and stared at them with slightly reddened eyes.
At the same time, more squeaking sounds were made, and one after another rat with reddish eyes drilled out from the beams of the room, beside the storage cabinet, between the various miscellaneous items placed there, and beside the fireplace where hot water was being boiled.
Several of the maids were so startled that they nearly screamed out.
As the lower class of society, they were no strangers to rats, and had even killed some, but it was the first time they had encountered so many at once, and their spirits were extremely shocked.
”Let’s, go get Ged, Ged and the others will take care of it.” A maid exited the kitchen and suggested rather fearfully.
The other maid nodded her head repeatedly:
”Before, Miss Hazel was bitten by crazy rats …… These don’t look too normal either!”
As they spoke, they retreated further and further, eventually moving away from the kitchen.
At this time, on that long table in the kitchen, a silhouette quickly outlined itself, dressed in a white shirt, black vest, dark formal dress, wearing a half-height silk bowler hat, with a pair of shiny leather boots.
The figure pressed his hat, raised his head slowly, and looked up and around, revealing dark hair and brown eyes, and a slim, angular face that was unmistakably Germaine Sparrow.
–After leaving the ball early, Klein returned to the Dawn Dantes mansion, entered the bedroom, and teleported straight over with “Winner” Njoni.
Of course, the latter was placed outside the manor so that he could switch places at any time.
As a mouse came into view, Klein tugged at the human skin glove he wore on his left palm and turned his attention to the area of the estate where the flowers were planted.
Almost simultaneously, all of the rats in the kitchen vibrated in unison, their movements becoming sluggish, but it didn’t take long for them to return to normal.
They had become the secret puppets of the Trickster.
Klein’s current limit of 50 secret puppets was 50, and it would be increased when he finished digesting the magic potion!
