Part 6 Lightseeker Chapter 76 Distributing Mushrooms
Keeping a smile on his face and calming down, Emlyn opened his mouth to respond:
”I can find helpers at a sufficient level.”
In this matter, he didn’t want to utilize the power of the Blood Clan too much, because then he would undoubtedly be reduced to a liaison, a bystander, and a reporter again, without a single say in the final distribution of the spoils of war.
And there was no shortage of dukes and marquises of the Blood Clan whose direct descendants wanted to be promoted to demigods and become counts.
At first, Emlin believed in his own identity as the savior of the blood race, believing that the bigwigs above him could treat every member of every matter with justice, but as the “inverted man” analyzed the deep-rooted intentions of the orders, initiatives and words of the Marquis of Nibais and other high-ranking blood races over and over again, Emlin gradually grew wary of the situation.
Marich said with a faintly unseen frown:
”Sherlock Moriarty?”
With a pang of confusion, Emlyn adjusted his sitting position and said:
”Why do you think it’s him?”
In the past, he would have said, “Why mention Sherlock Moriarty, he’s been away from Birkeland for nearly two years,” but now he was keenly aware of the hidden message in Maric’s words, so he subconsciously adjusted his rhetorical question.
In the eyes of this “spirit”, Sherlock Moriarty is not simple? Well, he really is not simple …… Speaking at the same time, Emlin made a guess in his heart.
Hearing Emlin’s question, Maric’s eyes immediately became a little strange, as if he was recognizing this blood viscount for the first time.
He quickly collected the abnormalities on the surface and said in a voice that did not contain the slightest bit of emotion:
”We need to think about it.
”I hope that the next time we meet, you can come up with a more convincing proposal.”
”No problem.” Emlyn was secretly relieved.
He then stood up and gave a very gentlemanly salute.
After agreeing on a contact method, he put on his silk bowler hat and turned around to walk out of the room.
During the process of returning to his own residence, Emlyn couldn’t help but go over his preliminary plan in his mind:
”As long as I reach a cooperation agreement with the demigods of the Rose School’s Temperance Department, I’ll be able to take it and apply to the marquises and dukes for the use of the clan’s ‘1’ level seals ……
”Citing the request of the cooperating parties as a reason to deny the clan’s demigods from directly interfering ……
”Well, in order to reach an agreement, we must show enough strength to convince Marich and the others …… can only issue quests at the tarot meeting to see if Ms. ‘Hidden One’, ‘Justice ‘ Ms. ‘The Lady’, ‘The Inverted Man’ and they are willing to accept the commission, and also, Ms. ‘The Magician’ can also be considered, she can summon the ‘World’ Projections of Germaine Sparrow ……
”The biggest problem right now is that I can’t offer enough payment ……
”I can only try to advance, or give a promise, and pay it back in one lump sum when I become a count ……”
Thinking about this, Emlyn was suddenly glad that he had joined the Tarot Society.
It was the only organization he knew of that could exchange future promises for current supplies.
Whereas within the Blood Clan, in the Church of the Righteous God, one had to accumulate merits step by step to have a chance to queue up for the Extraordinary Characteristics and Promotion Ceremony, and there were times when an Extraordinary might not be able to save up enough of the required contributions in a lifetime.
It was like a credit loan guaranteed by Mr. Fool, which could be used to enact a mission, and then repaid in one lump sum or in installments when the promotion was successful……. Emlyn was accustomed to relying on the nature of things that were familiar to him.
While he hadn’t taken out a loan from a bank himself, some of the Bloods had plenty of experience and did internal exchanges from time to time.
–Most of them had fixed, very money-consuming hobbies, and their collections of precious things were difficult to realize for a while, so they had to resort to borrowing from acquaintances, bank loans, and so on, in order to turn around.
Emlyn remembers a Blood who was not good at business and made money purely by being a doctor, saw a precious artwork and bought it by taking a loan from the Bank of Beckland.
Afterwards, unable to give the mortgaged property, he relied on his life being long enough to take a full two hundred years to pay it off in installments, nominally, of course, when the father died, the son took over, and when the son died, the grandson took over.
Emlyn’s comment on this was that it was very honest.
……
BECKLANDER, NORTH, outside St. Samuel’s Church.
Citizens line up to receive toast, dried mushrooms and dried fruit from the staff of the Rouen Poverty Relief Fund.
The line stretched from the church gate to the square and circled around several times, and as far as the eye could see, it was densely packed with people.
Audrey stood on the steps behind Melissa and took it all in completely.
She saw a citizen’s face waxen with longing in his eyes, saw mothers holding their babies, coaxing and anxiously scrutinizing the line ahead of them which did not seem to have shrunk very much, saw a number of people scantily clad in formal dresses and long skirts, and saw some of them pressing the brims of their hats low and wearing veils as if they did not want the people around them to recognize them for who they were.
Every now and then someone who didn’t want to follow order was dragged out and thrown to the end by the priests and policemen who were helping to keep the line going.
One by one the food was given out, and one by one the cloth bags piled up behind the long tables dried up and then became empty.
Finally, all the food was given out, but the long line was only half short.
The citizens who had not been able to receive relief could hardly contain the mingled emotions of disappointment, frustration, reluctance and pleading for ken, but they did not clamor, did not argue, and mechanically moved their feet toward other food distribution points.
They had experienced such things too many times in the past one or two months, and had already known that unnecessary emotional outbursts would only waste their already low stamina, and they could not quickly move to another relief point or affordable food vending place.
At this point, they left the square with numb expressions and slightly vacant eyes, like a group of zombies.
In the process, a woman holding a child fell to the ground when her feet gave out.
Her child instantly wailed and cried, with obvious pain in her voice.
Crying, the child huffed and said:
”Mom, I’m so hungry ……”
”Soon there will be food, soon there will be food, there is food there in Memorial Day Square ……” The woman picked up the child and patted his back, shedding tears as she spoke.
Witnessing this scene, Audrey was about to speak up when she saw Melissa take a serving of food out of the wooden box under the long table and trotted over to the mother and child.
”I didn’t see it just now, there’s one more ……” Melissa half squatted down and handed out the bread, dried mushrooms and dried fruit in her hand, then explained very quietly, afraid of causing the surrounding citizens to scramble.
This leftover food was actually for the Foundation staff who had been busy for a long time, and Melissa was giving out her own share.
The woman took the food and said iteratively as she handed it to the child:
”Thank you, thank you ……”
The child hugged the food tightly and childishly followed his mother:
”Thank you, thank you ……”
Audrey subconsciously glanced around and found that the church pastor, most of the police and the “night watchmen” who mixed with the citizens to secretly prepare for accidents, were all wearing undisguised feelings of sympathy, pity and sadness.
When the citizens had largely left, Audrey picked up her share of the food and handed it to Melissa:
”You deserve it.”
Melissa looked at Ms. Hall in front of her and shook her head:
”I’m giving away my own share.
”Ms. Hall, you don’t have to worry, I’ll have food when I get home, my brother is a government employee ……”
Audrey smiled lightly and shoved toast, dried mushrooms and dried fruit into Melissa’s hands:
”You don’t have to worry about me either, my family has desserts for when I’m busy outside.”
As she spoke, she received a wooden box from her personal maid Annie and opened it for Melissa to see.
The wooden box contained delicately shaped cucumber sandwiches, cream muffins, and small carrot cakes.
Visible dismay spread across Melissa’s face as she looked deeply at the desserts for a few seconds and then looked up at Miss Audrey Hall.
She whirled around and lowered her head, saying nothing as she nibbled on the toasted bread with the fresh water prepared by St. Samuel’s Church.
Audrey, as if “petrified” by the look in her eyes, took the wooden box and stood still for several seconds without making a move, only pursing her lips tightly.
……
After the fifth batch of Moon City residents received purification and healing, and enjoyed the magical mushrooms, this ancient city-state became a believer in the “Fool” without resistance, and welcomed the Holy One, the God-Emperor Germaine Sparrow, to the city.
Krynn then celebrated a large mass and healed the remaining people of Lunar City with the Cross of No Darkness and the Staff of Life.
High Priest Nim came out of his quarantine observation at the end of the mass and respectfully asked:
”Lord God-Emperor, what is the honorable name of the Great Lord Complete?”
Klein looked around the circle, strained his face, and said solemnly:
”The Fool who is not of this age …….”
After delivering the honorific name, he made a point of emphasizing it:
”Don’t recite your name in full in normal prayers, but only when there are important matters.”
Otherwise, he, Mr. Fool, would be disturbed by the “work phone” to the point of mental breakdown.
Nim was not surprised at all, because the ancient sun god was also like this.
He thought for a moment and then asked:
”What are the specific requirements for the ritual of sacrificing to the Lord?”
Klein said with a sense of godly clerkship:
”The eighth commandment, says God, is to serve me with the heart, not the sacrifice.
”The most important thing about the ceremony is piety, there are no other requirements, it can be very simple.”
Anyway, the Lord doesn t care …… to finish, Klein silently added a sentence in his heart.
After speaking clearly about this aspect, he raised his right hand and pointed at the pile of mushrooms in front of him:
”The Lord gave these mushrooms to you to give you a bountiful harvest.
”These mushrooms feed on monster blood and flesh, grow and multiply quickly, and accumulate all the toxins, pollution, and madness within the pure black kind of mushrooms, which can be used as a medium for curses or a coating for arrows ……”
The inhabitants of Moon City listened with uplifted expressions, while crossing their arms, burying their heads low, and shouting:
”Praise the ‘Fool’!”
At this moment, it was as if Klein heard countless illusory voices rising out of the air, and they mixed with the real praises that surrounded and anchored him.
