Chapter 2088: Looking Back Suddenly
In the center of the round land of the ancient realm of the gods, on the mountain where colorful snowflakes were floating, there were two figures.
They were Wang Lin and Li Muwan.
They stood there, looking at the bridge not far away, and spoke softly.
Wang Lin’s eyes were soft, looking at the tenderness in Li Muwan’s expression. This scene, which he had waited for a long, long time, had finally reappeared after thousands of years.
The falling colorful snow no longer had a sad meaning, and it was completely different from the scene that Wang Lin saw in the ancient ancestral temple.
“This is a long story, Wan’er. After we leave, let’s find a place where we can be ordinary people, and I’ll spend the rest of my life telling you this story, okay… And Ping’er, and her wife Qingyi, you’ll like them.” Wang Lin spoke softly.
Li Muwan nodded slightly. She looked at the man in front of her. His face was the same as before, but to her, it had the traces of vicissitudes of life and the hidden traces of time.
She could imagine how much hardship and sacrifice Wang Lin had gone through to bring her back to life.
“Now, let me take you with me and walk together through the heavens…” Wang Lin looked up and saw the bridge not far away. His eyes revealed the brightest light in thousands of years, and there was no sadness in his eyes.
He took Li Muwan’s hand, and after she woke up, he never let go. He was afraid that once he let go, he would never find it again.
The two of them walked forward, stepping onto the bridge that reached to the sky, walking step by step towards the end of the bridge, towards the illusion that connected to the sky.
Li Muwan also held Wang Lin’s hand, never wanting to let go for the rest of her life. She could feel the warmth emanating from the palm of his hand, which gave her heart a sense of warmth and peace that she had not felt in thousands of years.
Their figures gradually walked to the end of the bridge. At the moment they were about to step in, Wang Lin paused, raised his left hand and waved it towards the ground behind him.
With this gesture, three long, rainbow-colored beams appeared out of nowhere and shot straight up into the sky.
The first rainbow was half a compass, which fused with the earth, causing the round earth to roar. The other half, which had seemed illusory before, suddenly became real, causing the countless cracks and mountains on the earth to burst into a dazzling light. After it was complete, it seemed to start operating.
The second rainbow was a huge pointer, floating up and sinking rapidly, merging with the mountain covered in colorful snowflakes. The pointer swept around the circular earth.
A mighty force spreads out from the earth, roaring and shaking the heavens.
The third rainbow is a bead, a white bead.
It floated in the sky and earth, emitting a soft light. Its appearance suddenly made the entire earth and the compass seem complete.
“Close!” Wang Lin said softly.
At the moment his words were spoken, the earth began to shrink rapidly at a speed visible to the naked eye, accompanied by a large amount of mist. After a moment, the entire earth disappeared, as did the mountain peaks covered in colorful snowflakes. Everything in the world, except for the bridge where Wang Lin and Li Muwan were standing, disappeared, turning into a palm-sized compass!
The compass buzzed, floating on Wang Lin’s left hand, spinning continuously, shrinking again, and finally, what appeared in Wang Lin’s palm was still the Tianyi bead!
The Tian Niji bead is the most crucial part of the compass, and it is also the same as the completed compass.
Holding this bead, Wang Lin looked back and saw that he could not see the sky or the earth. All he could see was nothingness. At the end of that nothingness, he saw a figure.
That was the ancient road.
Gudao looked at all this blankly, and he also saw the only bridge in this void, as well as the two figures on it.
“This is the answer…” Gu Dao muttered, his expression showing a complex look.
Wang Lin smiled slightly, and with a wave of his right hand, a huge vortex appeared behind Gu Dao. In the vortex was the Xiangang continent. Gu Dao was silent for a moment, bowed deeply to Wang Lin, and disappeared into the vortex.
After he left, Wang Lin took Li Muwan, who had also seen the figure but had not heard the news, to the end of the bridge and disappeared into the illusion.
As Wang Lin left, the bridge gradually turned into a crystal light, which then dispersed and merged with the void here, disappearing.
This is a place like a peach garden. In the distance, there is a pavilion with a stone table and two stone chairs. On one of the stone chairs next to the table, there is a man with his back to Wang Lin. He is wearing a gray robe and has gray hair all over his head, so you can’t see his face.
Behind him stood a man, who looked like a servant.
Wang Lin took Li Muwan by the hand and walked out of the void, arriving at this place that resembled a peach garden. As he walked out with Li Muwan, the servant turned around and looked at Wang Lin, smiling.
Wang Lin looked at the servant. The servant looked slightly older, but Wang Lin still recognized him at a glance.
“Ling Tianhou.” Wang Lin slowly said.
“Yes, but also no.” The old servant shook his head and did not speak. It was the gray-clad man with his back to Wang Lin who spoke. He turned around and looked at Wang Lin with a smile.
“This must be Mrs. Wang. She really looks like a good match for Mr. Wang.” The gray-clad man looked at Wang Lin and said with a smile.
Li Muwan looked calm and didn’t say anything. She stood next to Wang Lin and looked calmly at the gray-clad man.
Wang Lin looked at the gray-clad man who had spoken and suddenly laughed. He took Li Muwan by the hand and walked forward, facing the old man. He flicked his sleeve and suddenly the only remaining stone chair appeared to overlap, turning into two, and he sat down with Li Muwan.
On the stone table between him and the gray-clad man was a chessboard with black and white pieces scattered about, clearly a state of endgame.
“Your clone left halfway through the game with me. I’ve waited for so many years, and finally you’ve come. Let’s continue the game.” The gray-clad man smiled, picked up a black piece, and placed it on the board.
“Are you the guardian?” Wang Lin looked at the chessboard and then at the gray-clad man.
“I am, and so are you.” The gray-clad man looked up and smiled.
“Tianyunzi is the spirit of the vessel. I naturally have a trace of the spirit in it, which is the gray-clad Tianyunzi you see.” The gray-clad man’s appearance was exactly the same as Tianyunzi, except that it gave Wang Lin a different feeling. As the other party said, it was the gray-clad Tianyunzi.
“Just like the colorful world, it was first created by your clone, and later discovered by the spirit to be used. I was also curious, and now I know that reincarnation is so simple when you look at it.
The imitation of the heavenly inverted pearl in the colorful world is not the root of your killing clone’s guess and repeated attempts to know what the missing one is? The inscriptions of the Taoist scriptures and the scriptures of the tribulation are not your life experience?
The word “true” represents the true self in reincarnation. The meaning of this sentence is that from now on, all living beings in the world will find the path to their true self in reincarnation and walk out of it. The gray-clad man looked admiringly and slowly opened his mouth.
“I don’t have a name. If I am the first to step into the realm of the heavens in this world, then you are the second. Between you and me, no one else can step into the heavens.
Except for your clone…” the gray-clad man said with a smile.
“Did you create the Compass of the Boundaries? Did you seal the spirit within it?” Wang Lin was silent for a moment, holding Li Muwan’s hand without letting go, and looking at the gray-clad man, he asked.
“The fourth step is to step on the sky, which is the pinnacle of the world of dust. However, in the four major realms of the universe, there are still people who have reached the fifth step… or the sixth step… Before I came here, this chessboard already existed.
Let’s play chess. It’s your turn…,” the gray-clad man said softly.
Wang Lin was silent for a moment, smiled slightly, raised his left hand, and in the palm of his hand was a white bead. He took the white bead and placed it on a spot on the chessboard.
At the moment the white piece fell, the entire chessboard suddenly changed. The white and black pieces moved on their own, as if they were being deduced. In the end, when Li Muwan also looked intently, all the black and white pieces in the chessboard merged together, becoming only two pieces.
One black, one white.
The white stones were on Wang Lin’s side, and the black stones were on the gray-clad man’s side.
“Do you understand?” Wang Lin looked up at the man in the gray clothes.
“I understand.” The man in gray paused for a moment, sighed, and nodded.
Wang Lin smiled, stood up, took Li Muwan by the hand, and instead of looking back at the two people and the chessboard, he took a step forward with Li Muwan and disappeared here.
As he disappeared, the white pieces on the board slowly became illusory and eventually disappeared, as if following Wang Lin.
Wang Lin left, taking Li Muwan with him.
On the Xiangang continent, no one knows anything about the ancient gods’ realm except for the ancient path.
On a quiet mountain peak in the ancient land, Wang Lin sat cross-legged there, with Li Muwan behind him, looking at him tenderly. Wang Lin had been sitting there for several days.
She didn’t know what he was waiting for, and she didn’t want to know. As long as Wang Lin was by her side, she was already satisfied. However, in the back of her mind, she still had a question that she wanted to ask Wang Lin when he woke up.
Three more days passed, and on the evening of that day, when the sky was dark, Wang Lin opened his eyes and looked up at the sky.
In the sky, outside the Xiangang Continent, at this moment, a man dressed in black with long black hair appeared. He was full of a sense of killing and destruction. He stood outside the Xiangang Continent, his eyes full of indifference, and saw the eyes of the ancient tribe on the Xiangang Continent, looking at him.
He looked exactly like Wang Lin!
After a moment of silence, the black-clad man shook his body and rushed into the Xiangang Continent, turning into a black light and heading straight for the ancient land. He arrived at the mountain peak where Wang Lin was standing and stood in front of Wang Lin.
He saw Li Muwan, and his cold gaze softened.
“You didn’t have to come.” Wang Lin looked at the black-clad killing clone in front of him.
The black-clad man was silent, his right hand raised, snapping off a lock of his own black hair. When he let go of it, the lock of hair floated up and gradually turned white.
At the moment the white hair appeared, Wang Lin raised his right hand, and in his hand, a white hair also appeared, but after this white hair appeared, it gradually disappeared.
The man in black glanced at Li Muwan again, closed his eyes, turned into a black mist, erased his own spiritual intelligence, and merged into Wang Lin’s body.
Wang Lin absorbed all the black qi, and the true body of killing condensed again in his body. He looked back at Li Muwan, and suddenly understood why Lv Mo, after gaining spiritual awareness, still chose to disperse and choose to merge with himself again.
“For me, it was five hundred years… for him, it was countless reincarnations…”
“What are you looking at?” Li Muwan smiled.
“Did you see him?” Wang Lin suddenly asked.
“Who?” Li Muwan was stunned. She had just seen nothing.
“Nothing. Let’s go. You wanted to see Wang Ping and his wife, so let’s go somewhere where no one knows us and start a normal life…” Wang Lin stood up and smiled.
“No more cultivation?” Li Muwan blinked and stood up next to Wang Lin.
“Cultivation is in the heart. Once you find your true self, it doesn’t matter where you are.” Wang Lin laughed, embraced Li Muwan, and the two of them turned into a rainbow of light and flew into the darkening sky after dusk.
“Wang Lin, after the end of the game, what did you two understand… I don’t quite understand… what did you understand?” Li Muwan’s voice echoed softly.
The two gradually disappeared as they moved further and further away, slowly disappearing at the end of the day.
They did not see that at this moment, not far from the mountain, in a corner of the Black Rock City, a woman in white was facing away from the lights of the city. She looked up at the rainbow in the sky, and tears rolled down her cheeks and dripped onto her clothes.
“Forget it, forget everything… The fish in the previous life looked at the birds flying away in the water…” The woman muttered, her eyes misty. The fish in the water were crying, but the tears melted in the water and the birds couldn’t see them.
“In the previous life, we were birds and fish, but in this life, we are not…” Behind the woman, a soft voice suddenly appeared.
The woman’s delicate body trembled, and she suddenly turned around to see the figure of the smiling man in the dimly lit area…
Postscript
It’s been almost half a month since the end of “Xian Nian,” and I’ve been saying that there would be a postscript, but I’ve never really felt like writing one. Now that the New Year is approaching, I’ve organized my thoughts and will write a postscript first.
Xian Ni has written about each month, and it’s almost time for the New Year. Looking back, I have a lot of feelings.
I still remember the first month of Xian Ni, when I had only a few thousand followers and even fewer subscribers. But I didn’t give up. I drank beer, my eyes red, and told myself that even if I was a loser, I was going to finish the whole story.
I’m going for it, I’m going to write!
At that time, Ergen was a newcomer, confused about the future and life, always staring at the sky in a daze, with many thoughts and ideals, but in the end, he was left with nothing but helplessness as his beard grew longer and longer.
I didn’t want to give up, I had to persevere, and that’s what I told myself in June two and a half years ago.
The theme of Xian Ni is “reverse,” and for me, it is also a struggle against the odds, step by step, to continue to pursue it. There were many hardships and uncertainties.
I still remember the name-calling, the rebukes, the vicious words, and many other things. But I also remember your words of comfort, your warm words…
I have many times, looking at the book review area that familiar name, looking at the brewing multiple alliance, looking at the repeated surge of monthly votes, happy tears, really, this is true. Thank you, thank you, thank you every reader of the Xianyi, and thank you for the General Alliance and Xianyi for more than two years, the deputy moderator of the past!
It can be said that as the writing of Xianyi continues, I am also growing, growing in my thinking. Wang Lin’s way of thinking is like me writing my own way of thinking.
Life and death, cause and effect, reincarnation, true self.
These ideas are not in the mind of the aunt, but are slowly pursued by me and Wang Lin as the article progresses.
A person’s life is less than a hundred years, and only thoughts can be constantly explored. I have always understood that thoughts are the hallmark of a person.
After two and a half years, I was reluctant to let it end. In the days after it ended, I felt uncomfortable in my body, as if a string had suddenly been loosened after being taut for more than two years, and the whole person had suddenly loosened.
I still cough and feel stuffy in my chest.
A person’s whole life will have many two-year periods, but I know that the two years that belong to me are very satisfying and I am very happy because I have abandoned your company.
I have grown a lot from the book “Xian Ni” (The Book of Immortals), from the most awkward to the most proficient. I have gained enlightenment almost every month, but I know that I still have flaws. For example, I am not sensitive to numbers, and I always make mistakes… Many fellow practitioners know this… Often, I write three layers in the front, and then four layers in the back. I am very depressed, and my memory has deceived me…
There are many other shortcomings, but I have taken note of them one by one, and I will try to avoid them in my new books.
Even the punctuation in the book is often awkward for readers to read, but I don’t think I can change that…
Also, I remember that there is a lack of words, such as sneer, blink, snort, step forward, etc. I use these words very frequently, and I am a little ashamed.
A book with over 6 million words makes it difficult to achieve perfection. Don’t mind it.
However, I also have many, many advantages.
At least the characters are well-developed. I don’t mean every supporting character, but most of them are quite successful, such as Situ, Qingshui, Hongdie, Zhouyi, Shisanyan, and Daitou.
This is what I am most pleased with.
There are too many advantages to list them all and praise myself, you know. Overall, the disadvantages and advantages coexist. Xian Ni is far from perfect, but it is the limit of my current stage. In the new book, I will try other methods to make myself grow and climb again. (The word “climb” seems to have been used a lot.)
There are many gaps in the book, and even at the end, I still had to dig some more. I considered this, but in the end, I chose to leave it as it was.
I always think that a novel always needs to have some regrets. If it’s not about the characters, then it’s about the plot. In fact, some of the answers to the questions can be found in the text and in the thinking. For example, one of the missing beads in the Tianyi bead is actually given an answer in the end. The missing one is the Tianyun bead.
For example, if there is a white bead, then there must be a black bead. These two beads, black and white, are also given an answer in the last chapter, on the chessboard.
For example, the earliest incense was poisonous. I also explained it to the mourning clan, but I didn’t say it directly.
There are many more, such as the Donglin Sect, which has a solution in the article. However, there are indeed some things that I don’t have a conclusion for. I want to leave these stories to Wang Lin, who accompanied Li Qianmei on the Xiangang Continent, to solve.
Or maybe some hidden mysteries in the world of the cave dwellings, I also plan to leave to Wang Lin, who accompanied Mu Bingmei, to find.
Similarly, I have also left two questions for you, the first of which is about Wang Lin.
Wang Lin was present at the side of Li Muwan, Li Qianmei, and Mu Bingmei, but which one is the real him? I think most of you will say it is Li Muwan.
But on second thought, perhaps this is not the correct answer.
Or, it really is Li Muwan, or, it isn’t…
Of course, if it is not, then the persistence of Wang Lin’s life seems somewhat absurd. But there are some things that we are not Wang Lin, and we do not know the truth.
At least I can’t tell. I think that the person who left with Li Muwan is Wang Lin, but when I think of the story of Li Qianmei and Mu Bingmei, I suddenly become confused. Which one is he?
I want to share this confusion with you. If you were Wang Lin, which of these three women would you choose to stay with?
Everyone has a different answer.
What I want is that those who like Li Qianmei should think that the one who stayed by her side is the real Wang Lin. Similarly, for those who like Mu Bingmei, I hope you will firmly believe that the real Wang Lin stayed in the cave realm where he was born and raised.
I also hope that friends who like Li Muwan can believe without hesitation that the one who left is Wang Lin.
There is no answer, I don’t have…
Perhaps only Wang Lin, only he himself knows the answer to this question.
This is the first work of Ergen that has a real ending, and it is also the first fairy tale. I always feel that fairy tales have no endings, and I don’t like writing jokes about Wang Lin becoming the first person in the universe.
I want to write about a man with flesh and blood, a man who goes against the grain all the way to the end for the sake of his heart.
There is no end to cultivating immortals, so I wrote about the fourth, fifth and sixth steps. Perhaps there are more, and it is a long road.
This is precisely the pursuit and persistence of man, representing a kind of ideal climb and long-distance view, like the footsteps of progress, which will never stop and will continue forever.
Immortal Reversal is only a part of Wang Lin’s life, the earliest part. After that, he will have more life, but this part of life is not reflected in the book, but in our imagination.
I like to think, and I hope that you will, too, in the event of an accident, in the event of boredom, after a touch, in a trance, fantasize about it, and that would be very happy.
The night sky is vast. When I look up at the night sky at night, I know that Wang Lin is just a story, but the spirit of defiance in him is something I lack. So I will write a character like this to tell myself, remind myself, and let myself dream.
I am in the net, and everyone is there.
Like the question and answer at the end of the story.
“Do you understand?”
“I understand.”
But Wang Lin understood, the guardian understood, but I still don’t understand.
Life is like a dream.
This is the first of a series of digressions. There will be a second, and perhaps a third, with a postscript on other characters. I can’t promise, but I’ll write it down if I get the feeling.
For example, Situ, Qingshui, Hongdie, Zhouyi, Shisanzi, Zhouru, etc.
Although I spend less time online, I am still with you all.
