Episode 2: Growing Up Chapter 8: The Magic Test (above)
Under the guidance and management of the clergyman, all the people in the square entered the hall inside the church one by one in an orderly manner.
In the middle of the church hall.
A large hall, the ground is bright marble, overhead hanging huge crystal lights, hundreds of people enter the hall is not too crowded at all.
At the very front of the hall, there was a row of chairs, and on the chairs sat the major academy recruiters. In the very center, was the location of the test.
The black-robed divine official said with a loud smile, “The testing location is the center, those taking the test come one by one, no one else is allowed to enter that circle in the center, those who are ready to take the test please proceed to line up with their parent’s loved ones to the side.”
“Linley, here’s the test fee, here’s your identification, go on, right, that little shadow mouse is on my side first, it’ll be more trouble for the little shadow mouse to follow you around during the test.”
Hillman said.
“Bebe, you stay on Uncle Hillman’s side first, I’m going to go test.”
Linley’s soul communicated with the little Shadowmouse, who somewhat reluctantly moved in Linley’s arms, but at Linley’s renewed request, the little Shadowmouse scurried directly into Hillman’s clothes.
Linley then received ten gold coins and went to line up, only to see a single teenager as old as seventeen or eighteen, and as young as six or seven. These children lined up in two long lines while the priests of the Holy See collected the test fees.
There was a diameter of ten meters in the central circle, and there were three adults inside, two for testing and one for recording. The tools for the test were a crystal ball for one, and a hexagonal complex magic array for the other.
“The first one.”
The bald old man directly pointed at the crystal ball and said, “First, place your hand on the crystal ball to test elemental affinity.”
The first one was a twelve or thirteen year old teenager, that teenager somewhat nervously placed his right hand on the crystal ball, at once the entire crystal ball began to emit a misty faint red light, occasionally there was a small amount of cyan color mixed in.
The bald old man looked at the paper in his hand and said indifferently, “Age 12, elemental affinity, fire system medium, wind system inferior.”
“Now enter the magic formation and test your spiritual power. Remember, stand straight, don’t kneel or fall down, and support for as long as possible.”
The bald old man’s voice was still cold, that teenager nodded and stepped into that hexagonal magic array. And a holy white light immediately rose from the bald old man’s body, only to see a white light merge into the magic formation.
Light magic – deterrence!
“The method of testing is still so primitive now.”
Delinquent Corvette flew out and descended beside Linley.
“Grandpa Delin.”
Linley’s heart was greatly reassured when he saw Delinquent Corvette.
“For the magic test, elemental affinity is secondary, and testing spiritual power is the main thing. You should have sixteen or seventeen times the mental strength of your peers after this half year of meditation.”
Derinkelwalt smiled at Linley and said, “All of this is very simple for you.”
In just a moment, the teenager in the magic formation couldn’t hold on and collapsed to the ground.
“Spiritual strength, about twice that of his peers. There is no possibility of becoming a magician.”
The bald old man announced indifferently, the magic array stopped running, and that teenager walked out in disgrace.
A clamor resounded around them, “Quiet.”
The bald old man said in a cold voice, and at once a large group of nobles didn’t dare to pit their voices, “Next.”
Drinkwater watched the scene with interest.
One by one, the teenagers were tested, and surprisingly one of the first ten failed. This time in the magic formation was a teenage girl, the teenage girl held on longer than the previous ten.
“Huh?”
The bald old man’s eyes lit up, and he immediately increased the power of the magic array once again.
After a while, the young girl finally dropped to one knee.
The bald old man nodded his head in satisfaction, and a trace of a smile finally appeared on his face, “Spiritual power, eight times that of a person of the same age. It reaches the bottom line of becoming a magician, and the elemental affinity is also medium. One can become a magician!”
The bald old man’s pronouncement also decided the young girl’s fate.
“Ah, great.”
The first one to shout up was not the young girl, but the young girl’s father, a balding gentleman-like middle-aged man.
“Quiet.”
The bald old man said with a cold grunt of dissatisfaction.
Immediately, a priest came over from the side and brought the young girl and the young girl’s father to the group of magic academy recruiters.
Many people looked at the young girl enviously.
Becoming a magician, one would have both status and strength in the future!
As time passed, there were more and more people in the hall, and since the magic test was going to last all the way through seven days, most people weren’t in a hurry for a moment. When it was Linley’s turn, there were already more people in the hall taking the test than there were people lined up outside the hall.
“Next.”
The bald old man said again.
Linley calmed down and stepped into the middle of it, while Delinquent Corvette remained beside Linley, in Delinquent Corvette’s opinion, only a Saint Domain powerhouse could barely sense his presence, as for these ordinary magicians, it was impossible for them to feel it at all.
Linley placed his hand on the crystal ball.
At that moment, like the sun, the entire crystal ball suddenly shone brightly, with earthy yellow and greenish-colored rays intermingling, and even a tiny hint of fiery red occasionally mixed in. The blinding light even caused the eyes of those close by to squint.
Seeing this crystal ball that was as dazzling as the sun, everyone in the entire hall froze.
The bald old man trembled as he looked at the paper in his hands, it was written clearly that Linley was only eight years old.
“Age eight, elemental affinity, earth and wind systems superlative! Fire system medium.”
That balding old man felt his heart beating hard. The general elemental affinity of a magician is medium, slightly equal is very rare, as for super …… rare is even rarer.
It could be said that while others spent ten hours refining magical power, Linley estimated that he would achieve the same effect in an hour.
“Whew!”
A gasp of shock went through the entire hall, the elemental affinity was actually superlative, and it was also dual-system, this was too terrifying.
“Wind system superlative?”
Next to him, Derinkelwalt was surprised.
“Uh, I, too, specialize in the wind system?”
Linley himself froze, and couldn’t help but inquire about Derinkelwalt in his mind.
Derinkelwalt laughed dryly twice: “Linley, as I said at first, I can only detect elemental affinities regarding the earth system, by the way, you didn’t feel the wind system elements when you were refining your magical power?”
“Wind element?”
Linley was stunned, “The first time you taught me to refine magical power, so that I couldn’t be distracted, at that time I noticed that there were also cyan light spots around me however I didn’t think much of it. But later when I absorbed the earth system elements, I was surrounded by earth system elements and there were no more cyan colored light spots.”
Derinkelwalt’s heart was clear.
When cultivating magical power, especially for dual system magicians, if they just concentrate on one of the systems, they will absorb the surrounding earth system elements, as for the wind system elements, they will be excluded.
“Every time I cultivate in the future, it’ll be the earth system elements that are around, and I didn’t even think about those green-colored points of light.”
Linley was also happy in his heart at the moment.
Because he knew that a dual system magician was a bit stronger than a single system magician.
After testing elemental affinity, it was time to test spiritual strength!
