Episode 3: The Beast Mountain Range Chapter 7: The Road (Up)
Time returned to the day of June 5th.
On the morning of this day, after bidding farewell to his three good brothers, Linley set out on the road to the Demonic Beast Mountain Range with a sturdy leather package on his back.
“Squeaky little Shadowmouse jumped happily on Linley’s shoulder.
“Boss, we’ve finally set off for the Devil Beast Mountain Range, wow, I’m so excited.”
The little Shadowmouse’s voice resounded in Linley’s mind, Linley just smiled faintly, and at this time Derin Corvette, who was wearing a moon white robe, walked beside Linley.
Delinquent Corvette instructed, “Linley, be careful when you’re alone, you might just run into a hijacker.”
“Understood, Grandpa Delin.”
Linley smiled.
Grandpa Delin had already said many times about the dos and don’ts of being alone in all aspects of the outside world. At the moment, Linley was wearing sturdy linen pants and a sleeveless undershirt. The gravely muscles, observed from the outside alone, were a full-blown warrior.
According to Drinkwater, in the midst of the Beast Mountains, wearing magician’s robes was really in the way, so it was better to wear them like this.
Linley’s speed was very fast, even though the road from Ernst Academy to the Wraith Mountains was difficult, Linley’s strength as a fourth level warrior, he easily advanced forty miles in an hour, and at this time Linley suddenly saw three people in front of him.
“Huh?”
Linley’s gaze suddenly landed on one of them.
Because that person was actually wearing the standardized robes of the Ernst Academy, the other two of those three, one had an extraordinarily strong body with a giant battle sword on his shoulder, while the other had a lean body with a short sword on his waist. The skinny young man turned his head to look at Linley warily.
Linley didn’t bother to pay attention to these three, accelerating forward from the side in preparation to overtake them.
“Linley, is that you?”
A voice suddenly rang out.
Linley turned his head around in confusion, only to see the young man wearing the standardized robes of the Ernst Academy shouting with a smile, “Linley, I’m Deshart? Do you still remember me?”
“Deshart, it’s you.”
Linley stopped in his tracks.
This Deshart, Linley still recognized.
Deshart, was the same fifth year Wind Department student as himself, and although the two of them weren’t considered deep friends, they were, after all, in the same class.
That Deshart walked over with two other warriors, Deshart smiled and said enthusiastically, “Linley, I didn’t expect you, a magician, to be so dressed up, I almost didn’t recognize you, seeing the little shadow mouse on your shoulder, I paid close attention again before I was sure it was you.”
“Kava, Matt, let me introduce, this is one of the two super geniuses of our Ernst Academy, ‘Linley’, only fifteen years old now, but already a fifth level magician.”
Descharte introduced enthusiastically.
Kawa, was the burly man who was as strong as a bear, and Matt was the lean warrior.
“The two super geniuses of the Ernst Academy, I’ve heard about it from Deshart long ago, I didn’t expect to be lucky enough to meet you today.”
Matt said very politely, while Kawa blinked his bull’s eyes in astonishment, “You’re a magician? How come you look like a warrior to me?”
Linley didn’t say much and inquired, “Are you also going to the Magical Beast Mountain Range?”
Deshart nodded and said, “Yes. Kawa and Matt, who had gone out for a trial with me last year, worked well together. This year, we’re going to explore the fringes of the Magical Beast Mountain Range… Linley, why don’t you come with us as well… it’s safer to go together.”
Linley nodded.
“For the time being, I’ll just go with them, this Deshart is from the same academy as me, I can still be trusted, it won’t be too late to wait until we reach the Magical Beast Mountain Range before separating from them.”
After making his decision, Linley joined the three Desharts towards the Magical Beast Mountain Range.
All four of them were extremely fast along the way.
Even Deshart, who had the worst physical quality, could cast the auxiliary magic ‘Extreme Speed’, and the group moved quickly along the desert road.
Kawa’s loud voice rang out, “Linley, if you join us, then we’ll have two rank 5 magicians, by then the four of us together might be able to slaughter rank 6 magical beasts, the magical crystal cores of rank 6 magical beasts are worth 1,000 gold coins, if we kill a few more, we won’t have to worry about our living expenses for a hundred years.”
The average person’s annual living expenses of tens of gold coins was definitely enough.
A thousand gold coins, that was a very large amount of wealth.
Linley’s heart stirred, and his mind recalled the books about magical beasts that he had seen in the library of the Ernst Academy, and the books also introduced the magical beast energy core, the magic crystal core.
“This magic crystal core, it’s only condensed amongst the heads of magical beasts of the third level as well as those of the third level and above, but the price of any magic crystal core below the sixth level isn’t that high, I’m afraid that it won’t be able to catch up with the value of my stone sculpture.”
Linley thought in his heart.
A level six magic crystal nucleus was generally only around 1,000 gold coins.
And according to Drinkwater’s judgment, Linley’s stone sculpture was definitely qualified to rival the stone sculptures in the Proulx Guild Hall’s expert showroom, and naturally priced at thousands of gold coins. Killing with a level six magical beast, that level of difficulty, that level of danger, could be far greater than creating a stone sculpture.
“Going to the Magical Beast Mountain Range and exercising myself is the real thing, magic crystal cores? It’s nothing more than a incidental harvest.”
Linley said in his heart, while looking at the other three.
The Deshart trio were talking enthusiastically, clearly very excited about the magic crystal cores.
“The magic crystal cores of third, fourth, and fifth level magical beasts don’t have a high price, and sixth level is only a thousand gold coins.”
Deshart shook his head not caring and said, “If we slaughter a grade seven magical beast, then we’ll really be rich.”
Speaking of this, Deshart’s eyes also glowed.
Like humans, a level six magician to a level seven magician was a leap, this level six magical beast to a level seven magical beast, the strength was also a leap.
The magic crystal core of a level 7 magical beast was worth tens of thousands of gold coins.
As long as one was hunted, one could really be a small tycoon in the countryside for the rest of one’s life.
“A rank seven magical beast? With the strength of the four of us, I’m afraid it’s a death sentence.”
Linley said casually.
The ‘Velociraptor’ amongst the level 7 magical beasts Linley had seen, with the amazing defense of the Velociraptor, it was today’s Linley who was afraid that it would be difficult to break through the defense, and even if he couldn’t do so, he still wanted to kill a level 7 magical beast? How could he do that?
Matt, who seemed to be the shrewdest of the three, nodded and said, “If the four of us run into a level six magical beast, it’s hard to say whether or not we’ll be able to defeat it, and to fight with a level seven magical beast, it’s definitely a death sentence.”
“I’m just saying.”
Kawa rubbed his head and said with a grimace.
Just as the four of them were talking and laughing along the way, in the middle of the mountain forest over a hundred meters behind the four of them, a man dressed in green and with his face coated in green sap held a composite powerful longbow as he stared indifferently at Linley and his entourage.
The man’s lips were constantly moving, as if he was silently reciting a magical incantation.
At the same time, the longbow had already been drawn to full-moon form, and suddenly the arrow shot out at great speed, the cone head at the top of the arrow faintly glowing with green light, and the speed of the entire arrow reached an extremely terrifying point, tearing through the air, cutting through the sky, and in the blink of an eye, it cut through more than a hundred meters of distance.
Linley, who was talking to Deshart and the others, felt his entire body’s hairs stand on end in this split second, his heart hanging at the very edge.
“Danger!”
Linley dodged to the side at breakneck speed, “Puff!”
The extremely fast arrow shot through Deshart, who was wearing the robes of the Ernst Academy, directly from the back like lightning, the arrow shot through Deshart’s neck from the back, penetrating a hole, and the arrow flew out dozens of meters towards the front before falling.
Deshart covered his throat, his eyes glazed over, his mouth emitting indistinct sounds as blood continued to bubble out of his throat at the nape of his neck.
“Ah, ah De Shat’s eyes were filled with a desire for life and endless fear, but as blood bubbled out of the hole in his throat, in just a moment De Shat’s eyes completely darkened, and his entire body collapsed helplessly.
Linley, Kawa, and Matt all quickly lay down in the middle of the dense grass, vigilantly looking to the side and back.
