Section 6: Tomb raider
The weasel did not escape Yun Ye’s clutches, and was tied up tightly by the excited Yuchi Baolin with a knot of beef tendon. Two guards walked with a wooden stick in the middle.
Yun Ye was fiddling with the things he had found on this guy. Donkey hooves? Oh! They were still fresh, probably from the donkeys of the villagers. Glutinous rice? It was all good glutinous rice, each grain round and smooth to the touch.
Golden crown? The craftsmanship is a bit rough, but it can be melted down and made into gold biscuits, which are at least somewhat useful.
A night pearl? Oh my god! Yun Ye’s hand shook and the pearl fell to the ground with a loud crack. It glowed green in the night and shrank and expanded. His first reaction was to run, but then he looked again and was relieved to see that it was just fluorite, not a radioactive element. Back in the days at the Institute of Mineral Research, he was scared by the radioactive source. The damn old professor used the radioactive source to irradiate ordinary fluorite in order to prove the existence of radioactivity. As a result, ordinary fluorite also glowed in the night. This is how fake night pearls came about. It is so heartless that whoever possesses it will be unlucky.
Chang Sun Chong and Li Huai Ren were drooling and looked like they wanted it very badly.
“Don’t think about it. There’s nothing good about this thing. It looks like a treasure, but it’s actually just an ordinary stone, fluorite. Have you heard of it?”
Everyone shook their heads like a rattle.
“When exposed to a strange light, it glows at night. There are orange-red ones, big red ones, and this green one. We don’t know if this thing has been exposed to this light, but have you heard that people with this thing in their hands live a long life? It’s not that a treasure is possessed by the virtuous, but this thing is not a treasure that can make people live a long life. It will damage their life span. Remember, remember.” Yun Ye seriously fooled around with the students who followed him.
“So, Ye Zi, what are you going to do with this thing?” Chang Sun Chong was still greedy.
“Of course it has to be disposed of. Gold and jade are useless when you can’t eat or drink. I heard that there are countless wealthy foreigners in Chang’an, and it would be reasonable to exchange this for supplies that we can use.”
Everyone nodded in agreement. The problem is that outsiders are harmed. Who let them have no end to their gold and silver mountains?
Li Gang, Yushan, Yuan Zhang, and Li Shi, the elderly men in the academy, had not yet gone to bed. They were all sitting in the gatehouse drinking and waiting for the return of the students and guards. Lao Niu smiled heartily.
“Old Li, don’t worry. Yun Ye, Chang Sun Chong, and Li Huai Ren have been trained by me for a long time. I know their temperaments best. It’s just to catch a thief. What’s there to worry about?”
“They are my disciples, and they are still young at heart. Sometimes they can be a bit impatient. What if…”
The door was pushed open by a firebrand, and he shouted happily, “We caught him! We caught him! Sir caught a tomb robber.”
Several old men hurriedly came to the gate of the academy to see, and saw a dozen people returning from the mountain with torches.
Li Gang then let his mind rest, sat down in the chair that Huo Ju had brought and patted his legs to relax.
Yun Ye handed the donkey hooves to Li Gang with a smile and said, “Sir, you were worried that your disciples would go astray. Now, don’t worry anymore. Although they have many problems, they are definitely not bad guys.”
Li Gang looked at the black donkey hoof in his hand and nodded with satisfaction. His disciples had not disappointed him.
“Kid, what did you find?” Old Niu asked Yun Ye, holding a wine flask and taking a big drink.
“One tomb raider, one gold crown, and two night pearls.” After saying that, he took out the captured items to show them to the old men.
“Hey, this gold crown is probably quite old. Brother Yushan, look at the kui dragon pattern on it. It’s definitely not from the Sui Dynasty.” Mr. Lishi, who came out next, let out a surprised sound, as if he had discovered something.
“It’s just a gold crown of Liu Qu, the King of Guangchuan in the Han Dynasty. What’s the big deal? Liu Qu did evil deeds and dug up other people’s tombs. After his death, his own tomb was robbed. This is retribution. Why is Mr. Lishi surprised?” Mr. Yushan still looked unhurried.
“How did you know at first glance that this was the golden crown of King Liu of Guangchuan? We’ve been friends for decades, and this is the first time I’ve heard of this ability.” Mr. Lishi was a little surprised.
“The gold crown has a huge name on it. Didn’t you see it?” The old men were laughing among themselves, completely ignoring the two shining night pearls.
“Why do you gentlemen look down on the night pearls?” Chang Sun Chong asked the gentlemen of Yushan.
“Go away, go away, this is not a good thing, kid, it’s useless to ask more, it’s best to get rid of this thing as soon as possible.” Li Gang said impatiently.
Chang Sun Chong and Li Huai Ren exchanged a glance and went to the idea of taking it for themselves.
The old gentlemen ignored the tomb robbers. They knew that in the Tang Dynasty, anyone who robbed another person’s tomb or destroyed the bricks would be exiled 3,000 miles, and anyone who broke the coffin would be hanged. They did not want to participate in Yun Ye’s talent plan, so they naturally pretended not to know.
Li Gang said to Yun Ye, “If you want to tame a beast, you must have the means to tame it.
After saying this, he yawned and went back to his room to sleep.
“Why do you need a grave robber?” Lao Niu was a little worried.
“Digging holes! Digging holes, spreading his methods will save many lives, especially when the kid is going to mine, this kind of person is indispensable.” There is nothing to hide from Lao Niu.
Laoniu has always trusted Yun Ye, so when he heard what he had to say, he didn’t ask any questions and went to bed.
For a moment, only Yun Ye, Changsun Chong, Li Huiren, Yuchi Baolin, and two guards carrying the unconscious tomb raider were left at the entrance to the academy.
“Brother Changsun, Brother Liu, does Yuchi have any intention of watching me perform my tricks?”
Huangshu woke up from his coma and found himself tied up naked to a wooden board. He had experienced prison life before, but he couldn’t understand how he could be ambushed so carefully. He spent his days hunting birds, and in the end, he was pecked in the eye by a bird. He sighed and prepared to accept the torture that was coming.
The room was quiet, with only his own rapid breathing, and nothing else.
He was underground, which he was familiar with, and the damp earthy smell calmed him down. He looked around, but there was no one there. The bright eyes he had seen when he first came out of the tomb made him feel a little panicky for no reason. It was a penetrating gaze. “Engineer? What is that?” He couldn’t help but say it out loud.
“It’s a profession, a profession with status and responsibility, much better than a grave robber. Don’t you want to try it?” The sudden voice made the weasel nervous in an instant. This was the voice of the man at the mouth of the tomb, and he would never forget it.
Looking in the direction of the sound, he saw a young man of fifteen or sixteen holding a wooden tray in his hand, standing at the door and smiling at him.
“Young master, you are very clever. I am humbled. I just don’t know where you saw the flaw that caused this disaster in my family.”
“Donkey hooves, or black donkey hooves. When the villagers said that the black donkey in their family had its hooves cut off, I knew that a tomb raider had arrived here. As long as you carefully searched the nearby luxurious tombs, it would not be difficult to find your whereabouts.” Yun Ye told the truth.
“Are you also a member of the same group, young master? The weasel admits defeat. What you took tonight belongs to the young master.” The weasel is a very single-minded person.
“Do you think I, a county lord, would be a tomb robber?”
Huang Zi felt his ears buzzing. He didn’t know whether to be proud or sad that he had attracted the attention of a marquis.
“Oh, yes, I saw the hole you dug. It was twenty zhang deep, and you dug it so well that there was no margin of error. You also avoided the hard concrete and went straight to the coffin. I have to say, it’s a good job. I want to know how you did it. Is that okay?”
The weasel’s pupils contracted and he gritted his teeth, “This is a means of livelihood passed down from generation to generation. How can I show it to others? Young master, don’t even think about it.”
“It’s the bad habit of cherishing one’s own broom, but you’re in my hands now, so I’m afraid you can’t help it.”
“Hahaha, I have seen all kinds of people in my travels, don’t scare people with big words. I, the weasel, have a cheap life, take it if you want it. The ancestral craft will not fall into the hands of someone like you.” The weasel was a bit desperate, but if the ancestral craft was given to the government, what would the remaining tomb robbers eat? Those were his own brothers and sisters, and he gritted his teeth and prepared to resist.
Yun Ye put down the wooden tray, which contained a small knife, bamboo skewers, hemp paper, and a syringe. He was very excited, wanting to see if the methods he had learned from the movies could scare this damned tomb robber…
