Chapter 15
Luke gave it some thought, but agreed to Daisy’s invitation.
The two made an appointment for Sunday night at seven o’clock.
Silver Tower Restaurant.
This was a famous French restaurant in Los Angeles.
In China, Luke had also eaten western food, but they were all modified versions of western food, and authentic French food was still the first time.
The restaurant is located in Beverly Hills near Rodeo Drive, which is the shopping center of Los Angeles, the road on both sides and the middle of the green belt planted with tall palm trees, the roadside buildings are usually only two-story high, three or four-story buildings are less.
Luke is used to seeing the high-rise buildings in China, facing these low-rise buildings is a bit of a novelty, the environment here is very cozy, comfortable, the setting sunshine on the body of the whole person is relaxed.
Here and Tony’s neighborhood is like heaven and hell.
Los Angeles is one of the busiest cities in the world, but also one of the cities with the biggest gap between the rich and the poor.
Luke arrived at the Silver Tower Restaurant at 6:45.
The restaurant was located on a second-floor terrace from which to view Rodeo Drive at night; Luke couldn’t afford the luxuries of the place, but it was still okay to enjoy them.
At 6:53 a beautiful woman with long brown hair walked up to the second floor of the restaurant, wearing a long black dress inside and a khaki coat outside.
It was none other than Daisy, who had been rescued by Luke on Thursday night.
“Officer Luke, I’ve kept you waiting.”
“It’s not yet the appointed time, I’m the one who came early.”
Daisy took off her khaki coat and put it on the seat next to her, revealing her shapely body to sit across from Luke, “Sorry, I should have come earlier, something happened at the company ……”
“You just had a robbery, why don’t you take a few more days off?”
“I’d love to, but there’s a lot of things I need to take care of, and the customer is God.”
“What do you do for a living?”
“Lawyer.”
“Wow, there’s money to be made.”
“At the cost of working twelve hours or more a day, plus a commute that keeps me busy for about fourteen hours a day, I may have to marry into that profession for the rest of my life.” Daisy sighed softly and handed Luke the menu on the table.
“Let’s change the subject to something lighter, like dinner today.”
Luke took the menu and flipped through it for a moment, ordering a few dishes that looked good; French white wine snails, sautéed scallops in foie gras sauce, black pepper steak in red wine, seafood risotto, and asparagus bisque.
Although there were quite a few items, it didn’t look like a large amount of food, Luke could eat it all by himself.
Daisy added a few more dishes and a bottle of red wine, and then handed the menu to the waiter.
Luke roughly calculated that this meal would not be less than six hundred dollars.
The waiter came over with a bottle of red wine, opened the lid in front of the two people, and poured it into the sobering vessel: “Ma’am, sir, do you need to sober up?”
Daisy pushed the wine glass, “Wake up while you drink.”
The waiter poured half a glass of red wine for each of them while bowing and leaving.
Daisy picked up her glass, “Officer Luke, thank you for saving me, it may be a small thing to you, but it …… was a terrible thing to me.”
“I just did what I was supposed to do, drink this and don’t mention it or this dinner will have an awkward atmosphere.” Luke picked up his glass and took a sip of red wine.
“You’re right, and I’ll take that thanks to heart. Feel free to contact me with any future legal questions.”
“I will.”
Daisy picked up her wine glass again, “In addition to that incident just now, I would also like to express my gratitude for the car tire, I thought you were hitting on …… me the other day with a somewhat impolite attitude, I hope you don’t mind.”
“Actually …… I also want to thank you for the car tire.”
Daisy wondered, “Why?”
Luke laughed, “Because I did try to hit on you the other day, and if it wasn’t for the fact that your tires happened to be flat, I would have been embarrassed.”
“Haha ……,” Daisy laughed back, “I accept your thanks on behalf of my tires.”
The atmosphere at the table became lighter.
Luke was eating authentic French food for the first time, and it tasted pretty good.
Luke’s favorite was the red wine and black pepper steak, the meat was soft and juicy with great texture and flavor.
Next was the seafood risotto, the whole shrimp and squid whiskers were very rich in flavor.
It was great to drink the red wine, eat the food, enjoy the night view of Los Angeles, and feel the relaxed, free atmosphere around us.
Daisy drank quite a bit of red wine and her cheeks were slightly red, “Officer Luke, I’ve had some bad things happen to me again and I’m not sure if I should report it to the police again, I’d like to get your advice.”
“Just call me Luke.”
“Uh …… I went to the law firm this morning and noticed that the files in the office had been rifled through.”
“Could one of your coworkers have done it?”
“I inquired and no one has been in my office.”
“Did you lose something?”
“No, that’s what I’m wondering, nothing is missing although it was indeed rummaged through.”
“Any valuables in the office?”
“There was a thousand dollars in spare cash, and two pieces of jewelry, neither of which was stolen.”
“Were there any signs of tampering with the door locks?”
“No.”
“Could you have misremembered the location of the files?”
“Impossible, I usually have to deal with a lot of documents, in order to make it easy to find the documents will be arranged in order, but this time the order has been disrupted, there must be outsiders who have moved my documents.”
“Do you have a suspect?”
Daisy shook her head, “It’s precisely because I don’t have a suspect that I hesitate to call the police, from a legal point of view, this kind of situation would be difficult to file a case even if it’s reported, and the police might even think that I’m frightened by the robbery, and that it’s all just a figment of my imagination.”
Luke had just heard these words and also subconsciously thought that Daisy was frightened by the robbery, leading to nervousness and cupidity.
But when he thought about the two of them eating and talking together, Daisy was relatively stable and didn’t feel like she was having mental problems.
That said, it is indeed possible that someone has been to Daisy’s office.
Assuming what Daisy says is true, isn’t it a bit too much of a coincidence that her office was burglarized only two days after she was just robbed on Thursday.
More crucially, the fact that the cash she kept in her office wasn’t lost indicated that the thief wasn’t interested in ordinary belongings, so what was the other party’s purpose?
Business competition?
Luke guessed, “Daisy, is there such a possibility. Your coworkers or competitors know about your robbery, and thinking that you won’t come to the law firm’s office anytime soon, they want to pry your clients and cases.”
Daisy thought about it, her willow eyebrows slightly knitted: “My relationship with my coworkers is still good, but the competition within the …… law firm is fierce, so I can’t rule out this situation.”
“Do you have surveillance inside your office?”
“I’m not used to being watched by cameras at work, however, there is in the hallway outside my office.”
“Then check the surveillance and prove that someone has trespassed in your office so that the police can get involved in the investigation. Otherwise it’s hard for the police to build an investigation without property damage.”
Daisy raised her glass in a gesture, “I see, thanks again for your help.”
Luke took a sip of red wine, he had already had a lot to drink tonight.
In fact, Daisy, as a lawyer should know how to handle this sort of thing, maybe all she needed was moral support.
Or maybe it was simply a matter of wanting to talk to someone.
From that perspective, being robbed still had some effect on her.
