Chapter 16
MONDAY MORNING.
Robbery-Murder Division.
Luke had just walked into his office when Marcus came over and squeezed his black eyelids, “Hey man, how did it go last night?”
“Good dinner, beautiful night, good conversation.”
“Come on, you know what I mean?” Marcus made a jerking forward motion.
Luke laughed, “Less one night stands, you might just fall one day.”
Matthew said, “Friendly reminder that you should get an HIV test.”
“Hey …… I know you guys are jealous, I get it, you can’t eat grapes, uh huh.” Marcus grinned a big grin, “I have protection.”
The lieutenant said, “Infectious diseases can be more than just HIV, help yourself.”
“Oh …… I admit to being a little spooked, I’ll be sure to go to the bar tonight and have a few more drinks to keep the shock down.” Marcus made a show of swinging on the dance floor.
The lieutenant shook his head, “Don’t pay any attention to him, the guy’s hopeless, sooner or later he’s going to fall for a woman.”
Yesterday Luke took the day off and asked, “Any new developments in the Taser robbery investigation?”
The lieutenant said, “We checked the cell phone number in Tony’s name yesterday and the card was out of service and could not be located. It further increases the suspicion that Tony committed the crime. The main task now is still to find Tony.”
Luke continued, “What is Tony’s financial situation?”
Matthew replied, “Tony doesn’t have a proper job and has been on the dole, his financial situation isn’t very good, and the house he’s living in now is also rented. No credit card purchases have been found.”
Marcus said, “People like Tony usually prefer cash transactions, it’s hard to pinpoint their location through credit card spending. I’ve asked my friends in the gang to help me look.”
“Cluck ……” the door to the captain’s office opened and David stepped out of the office and waved at Luke, “Alarm clock, on a mission.”
“You really do deserve a beating.”
“Same to each other.”
The two left the detective station, Luke getting in the passenger side first, David sighed softly and got in the driver’s seat.
“What’s the mission?”
“Harry’s got a lead on Tony and wants to report back to us in person.” David started the car and was about to drive when Luke handed him an envelope, “What?”
“I borrowed three thousand dollars from you at the end of last year and I’m paying you back three thousand two hundred dollars with interest.”
David was a little taken aback and opened the envelope and looked at it, “You robbed a bank on vacation yesterday?”
Luke laughed, “That’s right, here’s your hush money.”
David put the envelope in his underwear pocket, “Call me next time.”
“I’ll think about it.”
David smiled back, “I didn’t think you’d pay it back, kind of a surprise.”
“Knowing that I might not pay it back, you still borrowed it?” Luke secretly said, are you stupid?
According to the body of the original owner of the character is really possible not to pay back the money, not deliberately reneging on the debt, but he would not have a loose hand when.
David complex color: “I’ve seen some police officers who went on a crooked path because of lack of money, LAPD wants to exchange the power in his hand for money easily, but this is a road of no return. If you need money, you can still find me.”
“I didn’t realize you cared about me.”
“You’re overthinking it, I just don’t want to be shot in the back one day.”
“Haha ……”
Luke laughed, that’s more like David.
The car drove near Tony’s neighborhood, David parked the car at the entrance of an alley, a man quickly got into the back of the car, it was Harry, the informant David had just developed.
David opened the door and said, “Did you find Tony’s whereabouts?”
Harry said, “I used all my connections to look for Tony, but I didn’t find his hiding place, and all I can say for sure is that he’s not hiding in the neighborhood.”
David twisted his head, “That’s not enough, you want your freedom you’ll have to trade valuable clues, if it’s just a perfunctory job I don’t mind putting the cuffs back on you.”
“Hey, relax, I didn’t find Tony but I did find his nemesis, those two hang out all the time and no one knows more about Tony than he does. You guys can just ask him what you want to know.”
“What’s his name and where does he live?”
“We all call him William, a bum, and his tent is in the alley in front of him. A bearded white man with only four fingers on his right hand, easily recognizable.” Harry paused, and continued.
“I’m sure he has what you want to know, so let’s make it two.”
David said, “No, you have to help us find Tony to do that.”
“I’d like to help you guys, but I only hang out in this neighborhood and am only familiar with the neighborhood. What I can guarantee is that if Tony runs back, I’ll be the first to tell you. But if he runs off somewhere else, there’s nothing I can do.”
David stared at the other man for a moment, “You find me another guy and it’s even.”
“I knew it, I knew you guys wouldn’t let me off the hook so easily ……,” Harry grumbled a few times, but he also knew that complaining was just futile, and helplessly said, “OK, I can help you, but this is the last time. ”
“But only if you find each other.”
“Who?”
“Lindsey Halls.”
“Is it an addict?”
“Yes.”
“What’s her offense?”
“None of your business, I want her address.”
“Find her and we’re done.”
“Wait for your message.”
“OK, you’re the Boss,” Harry said, getting out of the car.
Luke said, “Are you calling this a fake publicity stunt?”
“Are you going to report me?”
“Even if I did report you, it wouldn’t be for this kind of shit, I’m trying to save face.”
David hemmed and hawed and drove the car forward a few hundred meters, blocking in front of another alleyway entrance, and looking in there was indeed a blue tent.
The two men got out of the car one by one and stepped into the alley, Luke called out, “Hey William, got a friend here.”
After a moment the tent opened from the inside and a pimply faced man poked his head out, “Who are you guys? I don’t recognize you guys.”
“We’re friends of Tony’s.”
“I’ve known Tony for almost ten years and haven’t seen him have any other friends besides me.”
“Looks like we got the right guys.” Luke flashed his badge, “LAPD.”
“Sir, I know you guys don’t like me, but I haven’t done anything criminal.”
“Indeed you haven’t, but your friend has.” Luke handed him a cigarette, “It’s Tony we’re looking for.”
William took the cigarette and held it under his nose and sniffed it, “We haven’t seen him in a while, what happened to him?”
Luke asked, “When was the last time you guys saw each other?”
“I can’t remember exactly, but it’s been at least half a month. Has something happened to him?”
“Was there anything unusual about him in the time before you parted?”
William thought for a moment, “It seems …… like he was a little nervous during that time, and his mood was a little off, looking for him to drink with him, and he always avoided it.
Then later, he suddenly disappeared.”
“Tony disappeared for so long, why didn’t you, as your only friend, call the police?”
“Tony doesn’t like the police, SORRY SIR, no offense.
But knowing Tony as I do, if I called the police he not only wouldn’t appreciate it, he might cut me off.”
“Why?”
