Chapter 28: The Moth
When I came out of the shower, the doors and windows were already closed, but Su Rou and Qin Huai were still wide awake, sitting there staring at each other.
I couldn’t help but ask, “Hey, are you two in love? Why don’t you get married tomorrow? I’ll be your wedding planner.”
Qinhuai gave me a reproachful look, as if she were disgusted with me, while Surou looked at me with a look of innocence and grievance, and added, “Qinhuai doesn’t have any breasts, and I don’t like that.”
“Hahaha…” After Su Rou finished speaking, the three of us burst out laughing at the same time. Then I asked, “What happened to you two just now? Sitting here in a daze?”
Qin Huai took out a cigarette and said, “I don’t think we need to sleep tonight. Just now, when you went in to take a shower, we heard footsteps in the hallway. It was so scary that they stopped right in front of our door. Me and Su Rou were afraid that someone would be under a spell if we opened the door, so we didn’t dare to open it. Then Su Rou listened to the door and heard the person’s breathing.
Before Qin Huai could finish, Su Rou continued, “Then I couldn’t help it anymore, and Qin Huai and I each took a bench, quietly went over, and suddenly opened the door. Guess what happened?”
“What?” I wiped my hair and asked curiously.
“Damn, there wasn’t even a shadow at the door. Do you think we’ve run into a ghost? Sanwa, open your third eye and take a look,” said Su Rou.
I was stunned, and suddenly I remembered the back of the train station. I felt a strange heaviness in my heart, and before I could say anything, Qinhuai, who had lit a cigarette, said, “Chengyi, I think your premonition on the train was right. Maybe the train station really saw someone. I always feel that we are being watched.
After the incident with the old village chief, I was more afraid of people’s hearts than of ghosts. Su Rou said that we had encountered ghosts, and I believed him a little. I said, “No matter what, I’ll open the door and take a look. A few grown men can’t be scared to death in this room, can they?”
I got up and opened the door suddenly. The corridor was quiet and clear, and beyond that was darkness. It looked very deep, but I didn’t feel the slightest hint of “ghostly energy.” There was no ghost, and there never had been.
If there really was a ghost here, I would have sensed its presence.
But for some reason, I felt a little creepy just standing there staring out into the corridor with the door open. What was it that made me feel so creepy?
Before I could think about it, Su Rou was already shouting behind me, “Sanwa, did you see anything? I’ve already got my knife, ready to give you a finger at any time.”
Oh, this crispy meat has been stained with blood. I just wanted to turn around and reassure them, but at that moment, a sudden shadow rushed towards me, carrying a heavy powder, which made me close my eyes involuntarily.
When you close your eyes, you can’t help but panic. I shouted, “Damn it!” and then my hands unconsciously flailed about. I felt something cold and soft, and I panicked even more. This touch was not very pleasant, and I couldn’t help but yell, “Qinhuai, Su Rou!”
But as soon as I opened my mouth, I felt a large amount of dust rush into my mouth. What the hell was this? I had a bad feeling, and my whole body was covered in goose bumps. That feeling was even more terrifying than facing the old village chief.
Then, two hands pulled me in. I heard Qinhuai and Surou yelling and screaming, and the sound of clattering and banging. I finally summoned up the courage to open my eyes and saw Qinhuai and Surou, each holding a broom and a mop, waving them around the room with their eyes closed.
No wonder they were like that, because next I saw a moth, a very large moth, almost the size of a human head, a very strange grayish red color, like dried blood, flying around, its wings constantly dropping powder, obviously desperately flying towards me.
“Sanwa, think of something quickly. What the hell did you provoke?” Su Rou shouted with his eyes closed.
“Brother, I’ve never been so afraid of these bugs and ants since I was a child. What are they? Chengyi, kill him.” Qin Huai also shouted.
In fact, men are not afraid of bugs, but those bugs have not touched their bottom line. Who is not afraid of this kind of demon moth?
The two of them subconsciously relied on me, and I had no choice but to go ahead. I was originally pulled behind Qin Huai and Su Rou, but I suddenly rushed out, and the moth followed me and flew over.
I turned around and stopped, holding the quilt in both hands. The moth flew towards me, and at the moment it was flying low, I grabbed the quilt and threw it at it, finally trapping it in the quilt.
Then I yelled, “Come here, I’ve got it. It’s in the blanket. Step on it.”
Qin Huai and Su Rou rushed over, not caring about their own lives, and began to stomp on the quilt. Finally, there was no more movement under the quilt, so I let go of it and leaned against the wall, exhausted. God knows, I had to summon up all my courage to get rid of the moth.
Su Rou and Qin Huai also sat next to me. These two people were also uncomfortable. They were covered in grayish-red patches of powder from the moth. I guess they were also scared by the sudden appearance of the moth.
“No wonder my mother has been calling it a demon moth since I was a child. This moth is probably a demon, what’s not growing is growing.” Su Rou took out a cigarette, lit it while talking, and took a deep drag.
Qinhuai took the cigarette from Su Rou’s hand and took a drag, then said, “Let’s throw away the quilt later, so we don’t have to explain to the hotel why we threw it away. It was such a big moth.”
As for me, I don’t know why, I felt a bit dizzy, my body was numb and itchy, and I felt the same in my mouth. I took another cigarette from Qin Huai and said, “I haven’t seen a monster, but I know that spiders, moths, foxes, weasels, and centipedes are the most evil, and they can easily become monsters.”
At this time, I didn’t want to analyze anything. Although I had a hunch that the moth was not simple, it was very likely related to the footsteps at the door.
The three of us took turns smoking a cigarette. After we finished, our spirits finally settled down. Qin Huai said to lift the quilt and take a good look at the moth, while Su Rou shouted, “My body is itchy and numb.”
Qin Huai heard Su Rou say this and immediately exclaimed that she felt the same way.
I struggled to get up, and my consciousness began to blur inexplicably. I said to Su Rou, “Quick, the three of us should go and wash, and use hot water to wash off the powder on our bodies.”
But as soon as I finished speaking, my feet were unsteady, and I felt my whole body go numb, even my brain. I bit my teeth and said, “Qin Huai, contact my uncle Li… Li Shifu and explain… explain… the situation.”
After that, I lost consciousness.
In fact, at that time, what I originally meant to say was to ask my uncle Li to contact my uncle Chen. I thought we had been poisoned by the moth, and my uncle Chen was a renowned doctor, so he must have a solution. But my consciousness could not support me saying so much, so I could only say this in a panic.
In a daze, I felt Su Rou and Qin Huai dragging me to the bathroom, felt the hot water pouring down on my head, felt water being poured into my mouth, and heard them calling me. I just couldn’t open my eyes, I just didn’t have the strength to respond.
I thought to myself, “How many times have I fainted? Why is it always me who faints? This time I’m obviously not fainted, but I still have to pretend to be fainted. What does it mean?
The two guys were wiping me down and then threw me onto the bed, covering me with a quilt. I wanted to yell, “Don’t cover me with that moth-eaten quilt,” but I couldn’t.
I felt very uncomfortable, my whole body was numb, a hundred times more uncomfortable than in the old village chief’s dream world.
I heard the two guys discussing what to do next, and they discussed many possibilities, but unfortunately I couldn’t say anything. Finally, I had no choice but to close my eyes and simply sleep.
When I woke up, it was still the same situation. My whole body was paralyzed and I couldn’t even open my eyes. The room was very quiet. Qin Huai and Su Rou had disappeared. I was starving, but I was like a conscious vegetable, unable to do anything but lie in bed.
I really hope they went to contact my great uncle and explained the situation clearly. Otherwise, what if I really become a vegetable like this?
Anyway, I was fine lying there, so I started analyzing the situation and desperately trying to recall the voice I heard on the train and the figure I saw at the train station.
The more I thought about it, the more I felt that they were the same person. Who could it be? Perhaps it was in the absolute silence and stillness that the human brain was particularly active. I suddenly thought of a person who made me speechless.
