Chapter 14: The story of drifting on the Yellow River
Was the male corpse more powerful, or was the female corpse more powerful? When Liu Er and the second-in-command went to Lin Jianguo’s dilapidated shack, he had such a nonsensical thought in his heart.
He wasn’t afraid, but when he thought of the footprints that had appeared in the house, he was scared to the extreme. But this kind of thing was beyond his control, and the only thing he could do was to cling to Lin Jianguo as a straw to save his life. Then he couldn’t help but compare which corpse would be more powerful, just to guess whether Lin Jianguo could handle it?
“Hey, is there something in this town that’s causing trouble? You said that the timber distribution office has been quiet for a few years, but now…” The second-in-command kept muttering all the way, and couldn’t help but whisper a few more words about the characteristics of the corpse next to Master Liu Er. The corpse was also completely blue from the cold, but this time it was late autumn, not the deep winter of that time, so the blue was not so severe!
It was slightly swollen, but not to the point of being exaggerated, like a fresh corpse.
“Holding a tree… wearing a black silk satin dress, with a red sash, the kind of dress you wear when you marry a woman, you know? You said that last time a bride floated in, and this time a groom came in? What will it be next time?” The second-in-command muttered, obviously the whole thing gave him a lot of psychological pressure, and he had to keep talking to relieve the pressure.
“Stop it.” Liu Er finally reached the limit of his patience and couldn’t help but scolded. He remembered the strange dream, in which the strange boat was lifted by a curtain, and the feet… the man was wearing black cloth shoes…
People are different. Some people need to keep talking to relieve stress, while others like to think quietly in the face of pressure. Liu Er, as a quiet person, was irritated by the second in command, so he exploded.
But after yelling, both Liu Er and the second-in-command were stunned. Liu Er said, “You see, I’m really just too agitated. I’m sorry…”
Liu Er was a little incoherent, but the second in command suddenly smiled and patted Liu Er on the shoulder, saying, “I understand, one thing at a time! That’s why I don’t listen to the nagging. Everyone still hopes to see the sun tomorrow.”
In the end, they were both scared! As the two men talked, they had already arrived at Lin Jianguo’s shack.
“Wait here. Jianguo doesn’t like people to come near his shack.” Liu Er said to the second-in-command as they stopped ten meters away from the shack.
“Mm.” The second-in-command didn’t have much of an air of authority at this point. In the face of death, everyone is an ordinary person, let alone just having him stand here and wait.
Under the cold moonlight of late autumn, Liu Er approached the hut alone and knocked on the door.
It was also late autumn, and I was lost in thought as I watched the drizzle fall on the slightly yellowish surface of the river.
Ge Quan had already finished telling the story, but I just couldn’t get back to my senses. I just stared at Ge Quan in a daze.
“Chengyi?” Ge Quan called out to me, and I suddenly came back to my senses. I looked at Ge Quan and said, “Is it over?”
“What’s finished?” Ge Quan was a little puzzled.
“Is that the end of the story?” I felt a little unsatisfied. What happened to the dead man? Who was the mysterious Lin Jianguo? Were all the people at the lumber yard safe? And what about the fate of this remote town? I was just in a daze because I couldn’t think of how the story ended.
You have to know that the beginning of the founding of the country was an era when “demons and monsters” were rampant, and there was too much destruction, which ruined the original… There was no time to rebuild, and there were too many things that kept people busy. At that time, many entire villages disappeared, and even many older generations remember that it was not uncommon for a town to disappear.
Of course, places with a large population and a strong influence must be protected.
I worry about the small town not far from the Yellow River in the story. Obviously, it does not yet meet this characteristic, but it has encountered the existence of a being with the ability to bring about “disaster,” and the natural result is worrying.
I never thought that Lin Jianguo was a Taoist priest from the beginning to the end, because I didn’t feel the “taste” of a Taoist priest from him in the story.
“I’ve told you many times, this is not a story, but a top-secret past event. You’re lucky to be able to hear about it.” Ge Quan said this with a bit of a swagger, probably reminding me of his abilities again, the first person in the circle to have clues.
I smiled and said nothing. Even if it were true, after so many years, it could only be heard as a story. Although it was a very heart-wrenching story, what did it have to do with my reality? If we talk about the secrets of China, what is exposed is the half-truth that circulates among the people, and what is not exposed is only known by a few insiders. I don’t know how many there are, and everyone is obsessed with it. Isn’t it very tiring?
What’s more, I’m now completely focused on finding the mysterious existence of Guidaowan. Even if I’m moved by this story, I’ll forget it quickly.
“Mr. Ge, we are asking you for clues about Guidaowan. What do you mean by telling us a half-finished story about a timber distribution office? That is the place in reality that is called Guidaowan. Are you trying to tell us that the timber distribution office is Guidaowan? If so, you should at least finish the story.” Compared to my indifference, Xiao Chengqian was much more anxious. He obviously didn’t think that the timber transport office was the real Ghost Bay. The purpose of his saying this might just be to finish listening to the whole story and bring a little fun to our hard drifting life.
After the funeral for Uncle Johnny, I decided to take everyone back to China. Even though Yang Sheng’s sudden appearance and his promise were unreliable and suspicious, I judged by instinct that we had temporarily escaped the situation of being chased by the four major forces in China!
In this world, everything is about profit. If the stakes are high enough, there are always people who will go crazy for it.
In the past, I was just a ‘disruptor’ on the road to Kunlun in their eyes. Now they have found a rope that they can use to hang me. Even if it is not very ‘safe’, the huge benefits (I can find the relics of Kunlun) are enough for them to give up chasing me and try to control me.
This is the biggest reason and the main reason why I decided to take everyone back to China!
When we returned to China, we took the normal route, not the old one. After all, the chase from the mysterious religion on the border left a deep impression on me. After the biggest clue from the master appeared, I didn’t want to go looking for any trouble for the time being.
For this reason, I had a conversation with Lushan: “Lushan, give me a little time. I said I would…”
“I believe you are the kind of person who would go through fire and water for a friend. There are more important things to do, so let’s deal with them first. I can wait! How can the soul of Pema easily surrender to Manjushri?” Lushan said sincerely.
“Thank you.” I couldn’t think of any other words to say in response.
“I was going to tell you about me and Xiaobai, but it seems like I’ll wait until then. There’s already enough trouble, and one heart can’t hold too many things.” With these words, Lushan ended our simple conversation.
Thinking about this, I felt a little warmth in my heart. Lu Shan is such a guy… But is the matter we are facing really that simple?
“Yang Sheng’s reason for controlling the four forces not to kill me is really just because he wants me to surrender to him and find the Kunlun relics for him?” Every time I think about this, I always feel a little unreliable. If so, why did they throw out the clue of Guida Bay? They clearly knew that I would not retreat from a difficult situation… If we were to enter Guida Bay first, how could they control us?
This is a detail that I only thought of after the fact. I always felt that Yang Sheng’s conversation with me was full of some kind of conspiracy, but apart from this detail, I didn’t find any flaws, including the emotions that Yang Sheng should have had.
Once I was lost in thought, I ignored the things around me, and naturally I ignored the conversation between Xiao Chengqian and Ge Quan.
Until the sentence: “When did I, Ge Quan, ever tell a story that had nothing to do with the clues? This story is the biggest and only clue to the Ghost Beach.”
Master Ge spoke with authority, but I suddenly turned around with a cigarette in my mouth. Is that so?
