Chapter 1006 – Because America would object
As McCarthy’s friend, it made sense for Allen Wilson to do so, and although McCarthy was of a nasty Irish descent, McCarthy was still his friend at this stage.
He also believed that Nixon, as a veteran politician, would be able to get through this or he would be sorry for so many years in office.
Of course he couldn’t leave Foreign Secretary Macmillan idle, and the issue of the 400,000 to 500,000 unsettled immigrants of Indian origin in British Kenya must now be brought to Macmillan’s personal attention.
Although this is a difficult issue, the minister himself has to have the ability to solve difficult problems, and who made the voters think so?
If Macmillan can’t solve the problem, approval ratings may drop.
If Macmillan solves the problem, the Labor Party, on the other hand, may attack Macmillan as xenophobic and a racist.
And in the midst of a post-war environment where opposition to the emergence of people like the Führer became the consensus of nations, a bit of pressure from a racist is just as much of a jack-in-the-box, and no matter how one chooses to do it, it seems to come at a price.
This was a deliberate legacy of Alan Wilson’s tenure as the previous Foreign Secretary, and it is now rightly in Macmillan’s hands.
As for Macmillan’s questioning, Allen Wilson’s response was that he too had just become Permanent Secretary of the Foreign Office, and some of the work was still unfamiliar, and the minister was replaced before his butt was warmed up.
Thanks to years of hard work, before the influx of immigrants from the British Commonwealth of Nations, the native British working class had already begun to buy cars and take vacations abroad. Alan Wilson had been advertising the sunny beaches of Malaya.
Naturally attracting large numbers of British immigrants to settle there is unlikely, and the British still tend to favor the Five Eyes Confederation if they are going to emigrate, although in recent years the main place to emigrate has been Australia, especially Perth, the capital of Western Australia.
“Alan, you made a big splash in Moscow.” Makins, who serves in the Home Office, had a look of admiration on his face, suggesting that Alan Wilson had seized a great opportunity and that the kitchen debate was now being discussed in Britain and around the world.
“Opportunity comes to those who are prepared.” Alan Wilson looked at his old friend and said, “Don’t you know I’ve just sold Indonesia to Moscow in a package deal for such a chance to make a splash.
But Britain can’t talk about losing out, Alan Wilson did it for Britain’s sake. He wanted the Cold War to be fought for two hundred years if its great triumph was to result in the US monopolizing all the benefits.
At least the United States would not have reaped the rewards of its allies every now and then in the face of a major enemy, with the exception of Japan, of course.
Allen Wilson made a big splash, Makins naturally appeared to be over to solidify human relations, “But I’ve also heard that some people feel justified in pointing out to the Soviet Union the call to lift the embargo and liberalize more trade.”
“What’s the reasoning, a country like the Soviet Union can’t be trusted.” Alan Wilson bristled with a light grunt, “The part of the trade that the Soviet Union is advocating to unveil is only the part that is favorable to the Soviet Union. Would the Soviet Union dare to open up all of Eastern Europe plus his own market? Along with that, all intellectual property rights must be recognized and no reverse engineering must be done on the sly. The USSR wouldn’t dare, so the blockade of the USSR will continue, importing some agricultural raw materials is fine, but don’t even think about the rest.”
The USSR was a country that openly did not recognize intellectual property rights, and in order to do so, the constitution had to be changed. According to Soviet law, all inventions belong to the state and are given protection by an inventor’s certificate.
In addition, there was no fee for receiving an inventor’s certificate from the state. No one can sell the invention or sell the license to use it, because it is already State property. The socialist state and collective interests take precedence over individual interests, copyrights are collectively owned and are the public property of the collective, and from time to time the population can receive subsidized books or audiovisual products from the state.
“So free trade, not free trade as we understand it.” Makins listened to Allen Wilson’s explanation before he lazily replied, “The Soviets are trying to take advantage of all the benefits, but they still want to protect their market.”
Allen Wilson shrugged his shoulders and helplessly said, “But the free world is not united, like France and Italy may provide some technology in exchange for benefits, so we have to look at this issue carefully as well.”
There was nothing new under the sun, and the Soviet Union was definitely not the last in this set of market-for-technology-transfer methods.
“It’s really a difficult opponent.” Makins commented with a cold face, “I thought the United States and the Soviet Union were talking well.”
“Don’t talk about those Soviets.” Allen Wilson obviously didn’t want to talk about issues that had been finalized long ago and asked Makins about his recent work, the Ministry of the Interior was also a high-powered department that dealt with quite a lot of things.
Makins now serves the Ministry of the Interior, there must be countless annoying things, “We cooperate with the medical sector, some common medicines into the national health care system, things have taken an unexpected turn, guess what?”
“Profits decreased and the pharmaceutical group terminated production.” Alan Wilson thoughtlessly said, “Many drugs that were originally very common disappeared from the market after they were included in the NHS, and were replaced by drugs that had similar effects, but were not included in the NHS. Right?”
“You should take my place and talk to those pharmaceutical groups.” Makins let out a bitter laugh and shook his head, “Or maybe it would be more appropriate for you to stop being a civil servant and go straight to being a consultant for a pharmaceutical group.”
“Thanks for the compliment. It’s only natural, why produce without profit, it’s not like we’re the Soviet Union. There’s no obligation to do things that aren’t profitable.” Alan Wilson yawned, “Anyway, if there’s a disease for the sake of their own lives, how much the patient will pay.”
Pamela Mountbatten’s industry is there biopharmaceuticals, which are developing in full swing in India, so Makins’ words are not objective, and Allen Wilson of course wants to speak for the medical group.
The rules are dead people are alive, as long as you find a way to get around any system. Now it’s just that the NHS in the UK hasn’t been in place for very long and some of the flexible approaches are still in the figuring out stage.
Look at it in a few decades, it’ll take months to queue up for an appointment, and you’ll either be cured or dead, and if you’re still half-dead and alive, you’ll have to go on painkillers.
It’s a good thing the Soviets didn’t know about the flexible side of the free world’s national health care system, or that could have been a real problem.
“My goodness, it seems like I’m pretty much right with my conscience compared to you.” Makins shook his head and muttered to himself.
Alan Wilson raised an eyebrow in utter incredulity, “When did you have such a luxury. In order to defeat the Soviet Union that kind of never before seen opponent, we have to deal with it in a more ruthless and bottomless way, otherwise we will be in big trouble in the future, if you ask me, all such things as pensions should be canceled, the old people simply do not have any value, can not be in the creation of wealth, keeping them is a huge burden on the treasury, but it is a pity that not a single politician dares to do so. ”
“You’re not going to worry about it, Pamela’s group is doing so well that she still cares about a little pension?” Makins sucked in a breath of cold air, if a politician said that, he’d almost never turn over a new leaf in his life.
“I’m also an honorable citizen of the UK. The pension is the state’s guarantee for my years of service to society.” Alan Wilson instantly changed his face and said, “Oh it’s not necessary to ask for this money, but the main thing is to respect the state for giving civil servants recognition for a lifetime of hard work, otherwise it would be disrespectful to the Queen.”
Allen Wilson, who has always respected the royal family, felt at this time that he should look for his sister-in-law to comfort his heart, which was destroyed by the genuine Dragon Riders, and to know how to combine work and rest, or else in the future the UK may have less of a pillar of talent.
Foreign Secretary Macmillan is still worrying about the positioning of hundreds of thousands of Indians in British Kenya, which is a big thunder, if Kenya is independent, put into the United Kingdom, may be seized by the Labor Party to attack. If it’s not released? In fact, it will still be attacked, which is an exclusive benefit belonging to the ruling party.
Just then Alan Wilson walked into the minister’s office with papers, just in time to see Macmillan fretting, “The Honorable Minister, seems to be troubled by matters of state.”
“It’s not even the issue of Kenyan Indians.” Macmillan, somewhat helpless, looked at Alan Wilson and asked, “Alan, what is that you are holding in your hand?”
“Oh, it’s about the program for the Antarctic Conference in Paris.” Alan Wilson said as he held the document, “It is expected to be held at the end of the year, with twelve participating countries including the United States of America as well as the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics. Discussions are to be held regarding Antarctic sovereignty, and of course Australia is the most keen on the Antarctic, after all, Australia is alone in the southern hemisphere, with great geographic convenience.”
“An Antarctic conference?” Macmillan shook his head, “What kind of attitude are you going to take to this meeting.”
“We will do our best to support Australia in the diplomatic field, but it will certainly be useless. Since both the United States of America and the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics will oppose the division of sovereignty over Antarctica, the end result will, unsurprisingly, be that all claims to sovereignty over Antarctica will be frozen.”
“It sounds as if Britain’s eventual efforts are being curtailed by the USSR and the USSR. So why are we doing this?” Macmillan listened, “Especially since the U.S. still opposes it.”
“It is precisely because the US is against it that Britain is going to support Australia.” Alan Wilson explained without panic, “We have the Americans to be the villains, we’ll be the good guys. There is no better diplomatic conference than this sort of thing. It can also be used as a way to prove that Britain has always defended the interests of the Commonwealth countries.”
There was also no need to hide anything; the reason Britain supported Australia was because it was expected that the United States would oppose it.
