Chapter 1104 – The Indecisive Pahlavi
Pushing for a coup is nothing more than a couple of options, providing financial assistance to the opposition, which is the safest and most convenient means.
If that doesn’t work then assassination. Assassinating the leader of the target country and supporting the leader of the friendly side to replace him is the more drastic option.
Sabotage and strangle the economy of the target country, either by economic sanctions against the target country through overt or covert means, or by controlling the media propaganda sector of the country. Create opportunities for unrest and create unrest in the society.
In addition to assassination, Allen Wilson’s program included all of them, and for this purpose prepared three hundred thousand pounds of money as support, the same Kermit Roosevelt prepared a million dollars for the purchase of pro-US forces, to facilitate the control of the situation in Iran after the coup d’état.
Kermit Roosevelt knew that the British were very determined this time, and that there was some kind of cathartic thinking involved. But he didn’t care, because Mossadegh’s quest for independence and autonomy in a sense was about as good as a defection to the Soviet Union in the eyes of Washington in this present time.
This year, whether it is at the doorstep of Cuba or the center of Africa in the Congo, one after another fell into the hands of the Soviet Union.
This has given the United States a huge sense of crisis, not to mention the existence of pro-Soviet parties, or a real nationalist, the United States can not be tolerated, it is only the difference between voting for the Soviet Union now and voting for the Soviet Union later.
Immediately after the propaganda leaflets appeared on the streets of Tehran, Kermit Roosevelt ruled the newspapers that tended to favor the monarchist position and launched a fierce attack on this behavior, expressing his embrace of the Shah of Iran, Pahlavi.
At the same time, he put his hands on conservative and military leaders to politically launch an attack on Mossadegh, while at the same time borrowing public opinion to incite conservative supporters to embrace Pahlavi’s attack on Mossadegh’s supporters and create tension in Tehran.
Major McCordick, on the other hand, representing the British Naval Intelligence Service began another part.
On this day a prominent religious leader in Tehran was attacked, the first act of violence against a religious figure, and the death of this widely beloved religious leader in the attack unveiled the chaos in Tehran.
When the neighborhood police arrived, they saw only the body of the religious leader and got hold of the Soviet-made weapon that the criminals had left behind when they fled, an incident that shocked the Iranian police.
Near Tehran, countless pro-shah populations armed with daggers and hoes were coming from all directions to enter the capital to embrace King Pahlavi, who was in their eyes, and these people broke through the blockades along the way and approached Tehran.
It is said that the steps were tedious, but in fact it was only a change that had occurred in Tehran in a short period of forty-eight hours. It is simply not too easy for Britain and the United States to subvert a country’s politics, even if Iran is not a small country in the traditional sense.
Upon entering Tehran, these royalist populations went straight to the Iranian parliament to petition and express their support for the Shah Pahlavi.
Alan Wilson, who had stayed in Basra and was talking to Princess Badia about cooperation and support, received a telegram of progress from Major McCordick, and couldn’t help but think of the phrase, “No one leaves …… until we have elected a grand president today who satisfies us.”
“Sir Wilson?” Princess Badia couldn’t help but be curious and asked Allen Wilson what had happened.
“Your Highness, it’s that there seems to be some demonstrations in Iran.” Allen Wilson matter of factly opened his mouth to explain.
Princess Badia nodded her head, Britain had sanctioned Iran for such a long time, it was impossible that it didn’t have a little impact. In fact there have been some voices coming from Iran since this year, saying that some people are dissatisfied with Mossadegh’s policies and believe that it has damaged the Iranian economy, “Is it Pahlavi’s supporters?”
“I don’t know, I don’t know much about Iran either.” Alan Wilson shrugged, he was one of the most knowledgeable people in the world, if not the most. He also knew that most of the Iranians working as laborers in Germany were Pahlavi supporters.
“Let’s continue to talk, about the matter of cooperation in oil, India is a country that lacks oil resources, and the huge population destined to India’s great demand for oil resources, unless the Indians live forever a few hundred years ago, but I think this is unrealistic, we in the UK have an idea, and the Kingdom of Iraq and the joint operation of the influence on India ……”
Alan Wilson spoke eloquently, he was appeasing Iraq, in reality smaller countries like Kuwait and other emirates were more in need of India to provide a market.
“The Indians ……” Princess Badia face undying, he has a bad impression of the Indians, who let the Indian academic community, to question the glorious history of Sumer and Babylon.
The Kingdom of Iraq is also proud of its history as the center of world civilization. No one wants other countries to speak ill of their homeland’s civilization, unbeknownst to Princess Badia, the source of all this is right in front of her.
“The Soviet embassy has been surrounded by pro-Pahlavi supporters. Who do we support now, the restoration of Pahlavi as a real monarch or the running of Iran on a junta model?”
At the American Embassy in Tehran, Major McDick asked Kermit Roosevelt what the American side was thinking, “Now that we’ve done it the longer it takes the more risky it is, and in case the Soviet Union senses that things aren’t going right, we’ll be passive. It could also damage Iran’s relationship with Britain and the United States.”
Major McCordick actually didn’t care one bit about Iranian-British relations, it couldn’t be worse than it already was. Saying so was just putting pressure on Kermit Roosevelt.
“Just wait, we’re in contact with the Iranian military, we’ll have news soon.” Kermit Roosevelt calmed Major McCordick, he couldn’t remain calm at this point, but he could only wait for news.
Meanwhile, the Iranian parliament is also in the middle of a crowd, the chaos in Tehran, so that Mossadegh’s political opponents are not silent, and attacked Mossadegh, “We have been in the middle of a blockade for such a long time, and a lot of people are very unhappy about it, do we want to destroy the livelihood of Iran for a breath of fresh air?”
“That’s right, the UK has signed the memorandum, but the memorandum is not practically binding. Britain is perfectly capable of continuing to drag this out, and which other country do we have to help? The countries at the Basra conference are already the major powers in the world today, who else will side with Iran?”
“Look outside, several thousand people are just outside the parliament demanding a statement. Once you’re not careful this is an upheaval.”
One after another, people stood up and opened their mouths to pressure Mossadegh to do something about the prime minister, who was still widely loved before.
“The king’s representatives are persuading the demonstrators to leave the parliament!” Just then, a voice came from outside the parliament.
Accompanied by this voice, the members of the parliament looked over and then looked relieved, recognizing that it was the court minister of the royal palace.
“His Majesty the King has no intention of interfering with the running of the parliament, he is just doing what a king should do. Pacify the people to secure the capital, but I still hope that the Prime Minister can say something to pacify the citizens in distress.”
As the court minister spoke, his eyes swept over the councilors, lingering on a few, the ones who had just risen up to attack Mossadegh.
While the minister of the court came to the parliament to express his goodwill, another American executor, Donald Wilbur, met Pahlavi at the palace, “The Iranians are unhappy with the growing hardship, and if only Your Majesty would order the removal of Mossadegh. Both Britain and the United States will support you, and if there has been no response, sooner or later Iran will become a republic.”
Pahlavi was silent, he was spoken for, Mossadegh did have a history of opposing monarchs, back when he had opposed his father’s establishment of the kingdom.
That was more than thirty years ago, when members of the Iranian parliament who supported Reza Khan advocated legislation to dissolve the Qajar dynasty with Reza Khan as the new king. Mossadegh voted against Reza Khan’s self-appointment as king, arguing that it subverted the Iranian constitution.
He addressed the Majlis, praising Reza Khan’s political achievements while calling on Reza Khan to respect the constitution and remain loyal to the office of prime minister, rather than to become shah. Mossadegh’s views were not shared by the other members of parliament, however, and the parliament deposed Qajar, making Reza Khan the new king of the Persian kingdom, who was also the first monarch of the Pahlavi dynasty.
Mossadegh had a history of opposing the royal family, and Mossadegh had another status as a member of the royal family, only a member of the royal family of the Qajar dynasty, and his wife was a princess of the previous dynasty.
“Can London and Washington guarantee that I take back my power? What do the Soviets think?” Pahlavi was still worried about the Soviet Union’s reaction; his father’s former king had been a Cossack and knew the Soviet Union all too well.
“Not only do they support the Shah in taking back his power, but they also support the Shah in removing some of the powers of the country that have ill will towards Iran along with him.” Donald Wilbur assured with conviction, “The King has nothing to worry about the Soviet Union, and the Soviet Union can’t make an invasion of a sovereign country, if it did, it would surely cause hostility in the free world.”
“Fine!” Pahlavi greeted the Minister of the Court and asked him to make another trip to Mossadegh’s residence, citing the assassination and death of the religious leader as a reason to hope that Mossadegh would offer his resignation and calm the hidden antagonism in the country.
Major McDick, having gathered the news, again telegraphed Allen Wilson with an update.
“To be so naive?” Allen Wilson read the telegram with a mushy face, he now understood why Pahlavi was overthrown in the seventies, indecisiveness was innate.
Usually a decisive look, to the real sword needs to be bold time, began to look forward and backward.
Ready to rest Allen Wilson directly called back, “What time is this, still worried about the impact? Still have to take into account the so-called public opinion to pass a formal decree to let Mossadegh resign on his own?”
Numerous historical facts throughout the ages have proven that such a monarch has no good end, and it seems that Pahlavi’s eventual ouster from power was also destined.
