Chapter 111 Disposition of Thailand
The remaining days were nothing more than getting the French and Chinese representatives to sign and publish a common attitude urging Japan to surrender. Than the war in the Far East, which was recognized by Prime Minister Adderley as having nothing to do with the British Empire, Britain still gave a lot of support to the French claims.
The two old colonial empires chose to warm up at this time, and now the fact is that if carried out individually, Britain and France can not get cheap on the two behemoths of the U.S. and the Soviet Union, and the two countries, even if added together, can only deal with the U.S. and the Soviet Union one of them.
Since the Hundred Years’ War, the two sides officially fought, after the Thirty Years’ War, the Anglo-Dutch War, the War of Spanish Succession, the War of Austrian Succession, the Napoleonic Wars, the American War of Independence, the Indian colonial wars, has come to the present, the two never take a positive look at each other’s enemies, finally for the first time to recognize the importance of unity.
If they fail to recognize unity at this time, soon the two hardened enemies will have no place in the world.
And the next thing that Edward Bridges and Prime Minister Adderley discussed had to do with reporting on unity.
As it was said before, the colonial problem was not just a problem of the British Empire itself, but a common problem of many European countries now.
In a number of channels Edward Bridges had opened up to other colonial powers, and the feedback was reassuring.
At least Holland was ready to return to Indonesia, “Do you know anything about Indonesia? I remember you lived in the Far East.”
“Of course Sir Edward.” Alan Wilson secretly said you can finally ask the right person, “The geography of the entire Dutch East India can be summarized by fragmentation, the difficulty lies in the Japanese in the Asian battlefield deliberately inciting the native peoples to rebel against European rule, it can be said that the Dutch are now facing the same problem as we are, that is, the top brass of the native Indonesians have already had the idea of independence, and to be honest with the current Dutch own strength, trying to suppress this independent force amplified by the Japanese, the result may not be satisfactory.”
Alan Wilson remembers that Holland launched its return to Indonesia almost as soon as Japan surrendered. The Dutch-Indonesian War broke out suddenly, even a month before France killed its way back into Vietnam.
Allen Wilson mentions how at the end of World War II, before Japan formally surrendered, it deliberately armed local resistance to the suzerain power in the Asian colonies of European countries, not just Indonesia and Vietnam, but even the Philippines in the United States.
In Indonesia, Japanese troops in India received secret instructions from Japan itself to hand over weapons and equipment to the local Indonesian national independence movement and to stir up the Indonesians to revolution, causing them to create chaos for the Allies.
The next day, the Japanese in India sent a message to all of Indonesia to set up the Preparatory Committee for Indonesian Independence.
And by that time the Dutch troops were still on their way, and in the spirit of all being part of the colonial empire family, Alan Wilson felt obligated to remind the Dutch that for the love of his dreams Hepburn was Dutch.
“Out of solidarity with Europe, the Dutch expeditionary force can leave now, and if Japan hasn’t surrendered by the time they get to Asia, they can repair in British India and kill their way back to Jakarta as soon as Japan surrenders.” Allen Wilson gave his own all-or-nothing selfish advice.
“Very well!” Edward Bridges said with satisfaction, “And according to some news that does but cannot be divulged from sources, we can also know that our old rivals, the French, are also ready to return to Vietnam, no matter what kind of pressure they are subjected to.”
“Of the courage of the French I have never dared to doubt.” Alan Wilson replied in a double entendre, in fact, the French are very much to Alan Wilson’s own temperament, to the United States and the Soviet Union coy, to the Third World to strike hard, fight or not to say first, at least the French put the attitude of the colonial empire out.
Complimenting the old rival of nine hundred years, Alan Wilson suddenly had a flash of light in his mind, as if he had forgotten an important thing, in the world war is coming to an end, the British Empire still has a bargain to take advantage of.
Many issues are actually not qualified to be raised at the Potsdam Conference, take the issue of Yugoslavian refugees for example, if the time of the outbreak was not too coincidental and the Soviets found an excuse that could be used to do pressure, it would not have been brought to the Potsdam Conference for discussion.
Those hundred thousand or so Tito opponents, historically, died without a ripple, and no one cared at all.
“Sir Edward, we actually have a chance to grow the colony.” Alan Wilson could no longer rest, he can still want to return to British India to be a man of the world, but the independence of British India was suppressed only theoretically possible, he must find a good next home for himself.
“Oh?” Edward Bridges asked rhetorically, slightly surprised, “Where do you mean, Somalia?”
The idea of annexing the Italian colonies in Africa was discussed within Britain, except that there were also many opponents, such as the dubious ally America, and the dubious ally France.
“We have honorable reasons, it is well known that Thailand’s existence is based on goodwill between Britain and France, and this time the Thais have gone so far as to follow the Japanese in their attack on British India that it would not be too much to pay.” Alan Wilson said with a leaping expression, “We are dealing with Thailand legally and reasonably and are not prone to American interference. It can be categorized as part of the liquidation of Japan, and no one can object to it.”
Alan Wilson was well aware that the good old days of British India might be numbered, but it wasn’t like he wanted to go to Africa to be in the company of his black uncle. It was better to find a home where there was no barrier to integration, and the home he had planned for himself was British Malaya.
But there are both good and bad things about British Malaya. The good thing is that Britain is not going to give up Malaya anytime soon. The downside was that Malaya didn’t have much potential and would have to be found somewhere to make up for it.
Except for the Dutch East Indies which may not be able to get their hands dirty for a while due to their current unity with other colonial empires. But Thailand is something that can be cleaned up a bit, why should Austria be partitioned and occupied like Germany, and Thailand, which follows behind the Japanese, has nothing to do with it?
“You want Thailand to get the Austrian treatment?” Edward Bridges thought for a moment, the indifferent look on his face gradually appeared to change, with a knowing smile, “Yeah, Thailand is a member of the Axis powers. It’s reasonable and legitimate to receive some punishment, what do you think would be an appropriate place to ask for?”
“The Isthmus of Krakatau, directly annexed to British Malaya.” Alan Wilson held his head high and gave his answer.
